View Full Version : RAK for SIL - bone marrow transplant

Found out yesterday that my SIL, April, will need to get a bone marrow transplant. It will be a couple months most likely before she has it and I'd like to take the time to get a RAK package together for her. I'll keep in touch with my mom to find out if it would be best to give her it before she goes in or while she is in the hospital. With bone marrow transplants, you are in the hospital for several weeks in isolation. She'll need the encouragement. There is plenty of time, say a month or so, and I'm hoping to get a really nice package together.

Info about April:
Married to my brother, Sean
Born in April 1973
Two kids, Miles (10), Anya (8)
Loves sunflowers and daisies
favorite colors: purple, yellow
Is into running, swimming, gardening, dancing, writing, the beach
favorite tv shows: Survivor, Heroes, The Office, My Name is Earl, Lost, Desperate Housewives
has two cats

It would be great to have a huge "garden" of sunflower and daisy ATCs, but anything would be wonderful.

You can PM me for my address or I'll send my address to anyone who responds here about once a day.

Thanks so much.

ceedee, I doubt anything you send would be ugly! There's plenty of time yet so feel free to let the muse percolate.

Galzart, got your PM, sent you a PM.

Nora - I have a "sunflower" (hand drawn) as a mosaic card. It was originally for the Mosaic Maddness swap until I re-read the instructions and realized I couldn't Hand draw the mosaic, I had to cut into little pieces. Anyway I'll be happy to send. Please PM me the addy, or just send it to you?

I received a beautiful watercolor flower ATC from ruwbl today. I liked the ATC envelope so much that I almost thought that it was the ATC! She'll love them both. Thank you.

Mine is almost finished. I would say I will put the last stitches in tonight.

It will be mailed with the cards for the calendar swap. (Why give the post office more than I have to?)

I hope she likes it. It is yellow sunflowers tied up with a purple ribbon.

Not at all. She has to go through 2 or 3 rounds of chemo then she'll be in the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks. It will be at least a month before she's in. Probably closer to two.

I followed the directions in your siggy, Nora, to find this thread...I do hope your SIL is doing well! Is it too late to send something for her?

Update: She starts chemo on Friday. Then in 8 to 10 weeks, she'll start the transplant process. She has to be in full remission before they can do the transplant, so she'll have two intense chemo sessions about 2 to 3 weeks apart. I'm trying to decide when exactly to send the package to her, but I'm thinking in about a month, half way between the two chemo sessions.

My prayers go out to her and your family, Nora! I think halfway between the two chemo sessions sounds like a good idea! (for strength and lifted spirits to go on to the next session)

I would love to make a card to help cheer her!

Thought I'd let everyone see what I sent to April. I have some photographer friends that let me make some prints to fill in. Thank you everyone! She loved it and brought them with her to the hospital while getting chemo.

Mine is going out tomorrow...sorry for the delay. I didn't have any sunflowers or daisys, but kept it in the 'flower family'.
All my best to your sister-in-law.

She is doing fantastic. It looks like they'll be able to put off the transplant for quite some time as the most recent chemo did well.
