Welcome to the June 2009 RAK Attack!

A RAK is a Random Act of Kindness, and a RAK Attack is this group of participants mailing some sort of surprise to a ‘victim’ who is selected by vote through private messages sent by you. Please try to send the name/user name of the ATCsforAll member and their address (if available) when you sign up. (Please one nominee, per person.)

This is not a popularity contest it is simply our small way of spreading cheer in our little community. This particular RAK is intended for members of ATCsforAll. If you have friends in need of a RAK feel free to open a new thread and let us know, there's always someone to step up and contribute.

One person per month, not the same person in a year. A list is maintained to assure no repeats. If you nominate someone who is ineligible I will send you a private message to send in alternate nominations. The RAK host (me) cannot be RAKed.

Who to nominate and why?
Any member who is going through a rough time and could use a smile, who has been especially helpful or accommodating, the victim does not have to be a participant in the monthly RAK, just any member of ATCsforAll.

What to Send On a RAK Attack
Anything Goes: ATCs, Arty bits, cards, Handwritten written wishes on handmade or pretty stationary, Envies, Handmade stationary for gift, Candy, cookies, Stickers, Books, Artwork, Encouraging words, Poetry, favorite quotes. You decide what to send based on how much time you have and what your budget is, look to the supplies you already have and all it will cost you is a stamp.

How Do I participate?:

1. Post in this thread to sign up

2. PM me one member nomination and their address, if you have this info, it is extremely helpful. This information is always kept secret from the participants so do not ask.

3. I will PM you all with the address of the RAK recipient and the date to start mailing out. Expect to see this info around the 15th-20th of the month. You can only receive this information from the host (me) so please do not ask others.

This is a surprise! Please do not tell the RAK recipient-let them find out in the mail.
Please PM me if you have any questions.

Remember, the RAK is to bring a smile to somebody and show them we care.

All participants welcomed! Nominations accepted until the 14th of the month.
(And don't forget the Make A Child Smile "MACS" also located in this forum)

Sign up! Make somebody's day!

Your welcome! It is a really nice way to help brighten someones day. It's OK if you don't have a nomination, a lot of the members play every month and don't send in nominations.

Dear, dear Friends,
Yes, it is July 8 and I am sorry to say that I did not open an envelope or packet until today. I've been running since mid-June. You all surprised me with your generosity and talent. I feel so guilty as I can see the RAKs were to help me through my cornea transplant. Does it count that I had one done in 2007?
We had strategically planned this surgery so that I would be up and about before our grandchildren gathered here in late July. Our son called and said they'd be coming from Alaska on June 18 instead. Since my surgery was to have happened during the time the boys would be here, I canceled it. The surgery takes place in a different part of Washington state. It requires a driver for me, hotel stay and I must lay flat, be calm as we drive home. I was then to lay on my back and not look down or sideways...only straight up at the ceiling, for anywhere from four to seven days. Then I was to be driven again to the surgical site three hours away (as I am not to drive until it is okayed afterward.) I am having a new procedure that is very exciting. When? Soon, I hope. The thing is that I have to figure out the logistics all over again and find a time when my husband can miss work several days in order to drive me. Laying down is no problem as we have a car with reclining seats.
Back to June, The RAKS kept arriving but I honestly had NO time to open them and give them their proper due. Each of you were so generous with your time in making me special works of art that you deserve a personalized response from me. So, to the eighteen folks, who sent ATCs, bookmarks, bags, shrines, pens, glitters, fabrics, and even music, thank you, thank you, thank you. You WILL be hearing back from me via U.S. mail. I so love the love that is offered here. And I feel guilty for not having had the surgery. It's just that, given the choice, I'd rather love the boys and put the surgery off until it again is a two person household.
We have had four grandchildren tearing up the place daily 24/7 from June 18 until July 6. On the 6th, Gene drove the two Alaskans to the airport while I drove the other two to swimming lessons. I have volunteered as lesson driver until July 17. During that time we had many huge family dinners here that were catered by me. So my house has been well lived in and the walls are echoing with all the happy times. We have a lake nearby and the kids went down often. This results in sand in every cranny of my home. So I've been digging us out since Monday.
I brought the mail down from my room and opened each envelope or packet today. I am spoiled rotten by all of you. To the kind heart who thought a blind woman would like the Beatles, you're right. What a thoughtful thing to send for someone who intends to put on headphones and close my eyes while healing. Your packet was packed with so much prayer and love and it was the first I opened.
I think Carol Cadek might like to strangle me for my silence. Let us pray for peace and understanding. I'm sorry I didn't acknowledge each parcel as it arrived. With each new parcel came renewed guilt that I had canceled my date with the surgeon.
Oh, you may wonder WHY I am having this procedure. In 2001, I was very ill and nearly died. Many of the drugs that were used to help me had severe side effects. My lenses were shattered like auto window glass and my corneas developed "Fuch's Endothelial Dystrophy". I have had the shattered lenses replaced, one at a time. Then the right eye cornea was transplanted. Now for the left.http://www.fuchsdystrophy.org/
When I close my right eye, my left eye knows what it is seeing it but it is like seeing through frosted glass. I miss all details and can't differentiate a lot of things within my field of view. We are going to do a new procedure called an E.K. The surgeon will punch a hole in my inner cornea, suck that hole filler out, and put a healthy on in its place. There are no stitches. I am not keep my busy hands out of my eye by wearing a plastic bubble over it. I lay still so that the cornea piece does not go astray. After a little while, my tissue marries the new tissue. Voila. Clean glass over the eyeball! It is a lot more complex than that but that is the core idea.
Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes. I will hold them in my heart until the proper time. I am sincerely moved by the generosity of you. Your art works speak volumes to this old, art teacher! Prayers and blessings right back to you!
Hugs! Pam

I think spending time with your family is much more important than delaying the surgery since you will still have it done. Family is who we are!

You deserve every bit of love that we can all give you. :D

My hubby just had both eyes (separately) done for cataracts and had to wear bubbles on both eyes at one point. I took a pic of him as he looked like a monster from the blue lagoon, LOL!

Good luck with your surgery. I know everything will go well for you!!

A note to those of you from whom I received a June RAK:
Again, thank you, thank you very much. Tomorrow I am mailing out to those of you who marked your names somewhere on or within your packet. For those who are anonymous, I'm so sorry I can't send a personalized thank you. I don't know who you are! I am still amazed at the outpouring of support received. I will forever remember my June mail!!!! Thanks again.

I am in the doghouse for leaving iTraders for the people who RAKed me. Well, shoot. You sent me mail. I thought it only proper. Soooooo..... I hope you got to read the note before our fearless leader took away the point. Love, love, love to all!

Oh Pam, your not in the doghouse. LOL
And I did remove them, since only Rep should be left for RAKs.

According to the Site FAQs-
Wish Lists & RAKS: These are considered "gifts", so we DO NOT leave iTrader for them, use the Reputation Points system to thank members.
