I have a little project that I've been working on. I'm calling it "It starts with a pencil". Scroll to the bottom of this post to see cards that have been created by members of this site.

I've started a batch of Jam cards. They all start the same way - with an image of a hand carved pencil stamped in black on plain white card stock. Each card will have two additional contributors. When the cards come back to me, I will post the images at it-starts-with-a-pencil.blogspot.com (http://it-starts-with-a-pencil.blogspot.com) and I will send each participant a mini zine with images of six different (randomly chosen) cards from the project.

All media and styles are welcome.

Please post here when you send and/or receive cards.

I have 10 cards set aside. Who would like to Jam with me?

Cards are on their way to Robin and ceedee. Hmmmm, perhaps if no one else signs up, you two might like to trade and be #3 on each other's cards. I'll leave it up to you, and who knows, we may get more sign ups yet.

hey adriayna and penlowe;
Welcome aboard. Sorry for the delayed response. I was in the hospital for a few days. Had some chest pain/vomiting on Sunday night, went to emerg. on Monday morning, and I've only just now emerged. Turns out I need to get my gall bladder removed. Was bumped off the surgery list each day, and decided that since I feel fine, I'd rather be home than lying in a hospital bed.

Is that more detail than you wanted?

adriayna, I'll add you last on card #1, and Penlowe, I'll send you a fresh one

Well, this works out well. Robin, can you please send the card to the Mad Catter (love the name!). You can contact her directly for her address if you like.

Now we just need to find someone to finish off Penlowe's card, and to work on all the other cards I have here.

Thanks ceedee for the update.

Most excellent, Penlowe, and xraypinky, y'all can work out addresses between yourselves. Just let me know if you need my help for anything though. Of course if anyone else would like to play, there's still plenty of room.

I'm still waiting on my card...

Hi Penlowe;
It went out last week. Mail from Canada is SLOOOOWWWWWW. It might not show up until next week. On the other hand, I've rarely had anything go missing, but if you don't get it in a couple of weeks, I'll send a replacement.

OY Good to see you too. Any chance you can be enticed into join in the fun here?

aha! didn't realize it was traveling south. Dunno why but US<-> Canada mail is painfully slow, you'd think they weren't friendly or something. I've mailed the same size packages to Canada & Germany on the same day & the German address got it's package 8 days faster...:swoon:

Hey Penlowe;
You send to xraypinky. If you check the first post, it's all there. You can pm her directly for her address, or let me know if you'd like my help.

PS On Canadian mail - it's all our fault, it can take up to two weeks for my mail to reach other parts of Canada even.

Glad the card turned up in any case.

trini, and poeticpaper - got you both signed up. I'll send to trini who will send to poeticpaper. Poeticpaper, I'll pm you for your address, and when you are ready to send, you can go ahead and contact trini70 directly for her address.

Cheers, M

Hi. I did rvc the card from Penlowe to work, on and frankly I am stuck as what to do. I just wanted to let you know I am just waiting for the right idea to strike me. My inspiration has sorta fizzled out. hmmmm

Penlowe
09-04-2009, 11:53 PM
Dang, maybe I should have done more. I was trying to give it a tone but leave it open to 'final' art. Wanna send it back?

xraypinky
09-05-2009, 11:30 PM
:jiggy: No, Penlowe I don't need to send it back, I think I got it! I know it's a little dark, but I like the way it turned out. I used your firey colors and black dashes and turned them into fire and popping embers. I will mail out to you later in the week, Mistiko as Monday is Labor Day here in the USA, and the post offices are closed

Penlowe
09-06-2009, 01:07 PM
Nice! I like it! I could get into this JAM thing...

MistiKo
09-06-2009, 01:57 PM
I LOVE it!! That's just the point, these can turn out so differently. I'm glad you didn't hold back!
M

PS Jams are really great for breaking out of a rut. I'm sure many of you, like me, just get comfortable reaching for the same stuff all the time - the same colours, papers or whatever, but when you get a jam and have to work with what someone else has started, it can really make you stretch artistically.
M

Glad you like it, went out on a limb. I like doing jams too, I am just getting my feet wet in them, but it is a good challenge to use others ideas as a spring board. It makes you stretch your art muscle.
And I mailed this out to you today Misti

Here's the card by cdraz and adriayna. (I do have the card by penlowe and xraypinky but due to technical difficulties, I need to repair and rescan it. My scanner is having "issues" so the hubby took the cards to work to scan, but a bit had fallen off the card and didn't end up in the scan. I'll glue it back on and get a new scan)

they really are aren't they. I just love seeing how differently each one turns out.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I'm writing an article about this project for ATC Quarterly. I think they are planning on running the article in their Winter 2010 issue.

I don't know which images they'll use yet, there are so many fabulous ones to choose from!

Hey folks;
I just wanted to let you know that three of the cards that I've received back (the ones in the first post) are featured along with an article about this project in the winter 2010 issue of ATC Quarterly (http://www.atcquarterly.com/).

If you still have a card kicking around, send it along - even if you haven't been able to add something to it, send it back to me, and I'll find someone to finish it off.

Thanks, M
