We're home!!! Yippeeee.
Thanks to all who signed up at our temporary headquarters. I'm blown away by your kind hearts. You are lovely, lovely people!!!
Okay - this is what we are doing. We are making atcs to send to an orphanage in Kenya. We need one for each child - 365 in total. If you can send me a picture of yourself/ class etc all the better.
Some people are getting classes involved. At this stage we have one Year 4, one Year 3 and a Year 11!!! Also there is some interest but no commitment yet from a Sunday School.
Please PM me when you are ready or if you want to know more.

Gezza - you are an angel. Be sure to get them to write their details on the back and include photos if you can. Oh this is so exciting.

Hi! Is there a date you're aiming for? Or specific themes you think would be good?

Gezza

I have done 20 for you all child friendly and I am hoping a local school are going to do some, I cut them out a lot of blanks and they are in the pipeline I think!!!

Gezza my friend I am overwhelmed! Thank you so very, very much!!! You are so kind.
I got two lovely cards from Galzart this week. Self portraits of her as a child.
These are our firsts. So thank you Galzart for getting us started!!!
Katie - I would love self portraits if at all possible but anything child friendly would be fine. Maybe you could do something that reflects the uniqueness of where you live. On the back tell them your name(first is okay), age (up to you) and interesting details - like where you live (not your address just your state and country), if you have a family or pets, what you like to eat or do - something personal about yourself that they may find interesting. If you can add a photo of yourself all the better.
Gezza - that class - any chance of getting a photo of them at work or holding up their atcs? My plan is to get photos from the other end to show you guys - so that you can share that back with those who have helped out.

Glad to hear the cards finally arrived.
Are you going to do this on a continuing basis? If you are, I'll keep ths in mind and made some more "kid friendly" cards.

Go for it Vickie. That would be lovely!!!
Galzart I will keep this open until I have all 365 cards. If it goes over (I'm being positive here) I have an orphange in Bali in mind.

COME ON PEOPLE! How about some more support for this worthwhile project that ylfnogard has taken on. Check your stock of cards. Everyone must have a couple of cards that would make a child smile.

Oh H - I forgot. Did it go okay? Lovely to see that gorgeous face of yours!
I have had great news today. One school has got on board in Australia and plans to make about 150! At this rate we will have no trouble supplying the school with 365! If by some amazing effort we go over - those cards will be sent to an orphanage in Bali!!! Now wouldn't that be great?

ylf, i did four cards for you--child friendly collage cards--each with a mini bio and picture of me on the back! i made each a little envie, too . . . and i'll look through my backstock of old cards, and put in some of those, if child-friendly, too!

Galzart too. What an encourager you have been!!!

Got two great cards from Ceedee (sorry forgotten your new name). Thank you so much!!! I get so excited when I get to hold a new card for these kids. So much better than getting one for myself.

:):spinny::v_spin: Love to all of you who are taking the time to show these kids who have been orphaned mostly by AIDS - this love! Such a small thing and yet such a huge thing. BIG GROUP HUG.

Hello there Asta,
I have all these cards now, around 50 I think, I have to say some children put more effort in than others. I can't get you a photograph of the school class that made them, not allowed Health and Safety. Life is full of silly rules now!!!! I will post these on Tuesday, Monday is a holiday here. Hope all is well:spinny:

Gezza - what an angel. Thank you so much. Please thank the children. (I have to say I am tired of all these rules too.) I can't wait to see them all. Don't worry if some aren't brilliant. It is really about the thought.
J4Mi3 (did i get that right?) has sent hers and Vickie. Can't wait to see them. You are special ladies, that is for sure! ylf x

You know...I had to do this one. I kept resisiting but...
Please let me know ASAP when they are due since I will be starting them today, afterschool.

Are we allowed to use Bible verses on the cards?

ylfnogard
03-21-2008, 06:28 AM
Absolutely. It is a Christian run orphanage! Send them to me as soon as you can. I have others coming in all the time now. As soon as I hit that 365 I will send them.
I have my nieces here of the Easter break. Guess what we are going to be doing?

Hi Asta:

I'm working on finding a date for the kids at my church to do this. I hope it will be in the next week or two and that will be soon enough for you. I doubt we'll do 80 (Look at how God provides!) but I'll send what I can.

Julie you are marvellous. How about I make the due date the end of April? Will that give you time? 80 is wonderful - just amazing - but I know you know that it's not a competition. Each and everyone one is valuable and an expression of loving kindness!!! AND so appreciated!!!!! (HE does provide - you are right!)
I just read a pm from Skylerdragon. Her's are ready to go!! Great stuff.

I spent the Easter weekend with my nieces who made some ATCs for the orphans. They took it all so seriously and put loads of love into the cards. They put personal information (not private) on the back. I was so proud of them.

Today when I came home from work there was a bulging envelope waiting for me from Gezza! Thank you so much.

Vickie I got your's last week but for some reason I couldn't post my comment to you here. You have been very generous with your time. Thank you.

And thank you both for my personal Easter ATCs. I felt very spoilt.

Asta, mine went out in the middle-to-late of last week . . . and we both know that means you may see them this week, or you may see them next month! LoL!

ylfnogard
03-31-2008, 08:04 AM
Amyfaerie - I can't wait!!!! I am getting such a buzz out of this. I wish you could see them spread all over my bed. They look so wonderful - and each one so individual. I feel quite sure the houseparents or teachers will have lots of fun looking at them all before making that all important decision about who will get what. It feels like Christmas!

Ok. I have been trying to resist this for way too long and must submit my offer to make & send ATCs for the Kenyan children. Is there a time deadline? If not I can ask my granddaughter's 5th grade class to each make an ATC after they finish their art class. Their school is on spring holiday until April 7. Would you please PM me the address where I should send the cards. Thank you.

Oh you angel!!!! End of April - and I will extend that if need be. I'll pm you with address. I am so happy you have given! A x
Musicgal has asked me what to put on the back. Something like this: My name is .... I'm 6-years-old. I live in Australia with my mum and sister. I love to draw and paint.

Y --

Are you still taking cards? I would be happy to send a few.

How old are the kids? I ask only because some of mine have buttons, etc. -- and if they're very small children for whom such things might be dangerous, I just won't send that kind.

OK? Let me know. Best,

Anne

Today our Sunday School made cards for the kids at the orphanage. What a blessing to me to watch them create these lovely little gifts. I took pictures of the process to send to you, Asta, but here is a picture of the 56 cards they created all laid out on my basement floor. It looks like God's rainbow.

I'm with you Lyndayshobby!!!
Julie - your Sunday School did the most amazing job. I am so touched. I've sent the picture onto Gethsemane Garden Christian Centre's headquarters in the US. I know they will be moved!
Bluehills - feel free to send them. I am sure the workers at the orphanage will be careful to give those ones to the older kids.
Manycolours the school holidays are fine! Thank you!!!
Today I got lovely, lovely cards from Amyfaerie. Thank you Amy. They are a delight. I especially love those little envelopes they came in.

I know Asta has been very busy with other things going on in her life so I haven't heard back from her with her mailing address. If anyone who already sent cards to her has it and is willing to send it to me in a PM I'd appreciate it. I've got 60 cards waiting to head her way.
