Signup/withdraw date - April 5

This swap is all about Laura Ingalls Wilder and her wonderful Little House books. Did anyone else read these books constantly when they were a child, like I did?

- All cards should be standard 3.5” x 2.5”

- Please only send work you are proud of. All mediums are welcome, but should be uniquely your own. No stickers, coloring book pages, or tracing. Collages should have multiple (3+) images. NO images from the TV show, please.

- Please read the thread up top about how to mail ATC's. Do not decorate your envelope.
- Please include your username on your SASE.
- International participants – I will cover your postage. Please include a self-addressed envelope. It would be appreciated if Canadian participants could include unused Canadian stamps for me to use in future swaps.
- US Participants – Please include a stamped, self addressed envelope.
- If you have to withdraw, please do so by March 21. This is a small swap to begin with, and if people drop out I'd like to have the chance to find someone to take their place.

I am beginning to feel like a nervous mother with a poorly developing firstborn (as this is my first swap)! I know it's only the second day this has been posted, but I'd like to get to at least three people. :) Any other Little House fans out there?

miss
02-24-2008, 05:41 PM
OK, those bug-eyes happy faces are a little spooky!

Junquejo

LOL - two junkie/junque's in your swap, Valerie!
I read this series a gazillion times - I always liked On The Banks of Plum Creek, and Little Town on the Prairie best...but then again, I liked them all... :)
Okay, sign me up please...

miss

I'm going to join after I get a couple of cards made - if there is still room. Don't want to over-commit, you know!

I love these books. I still read them every couple of years.

Pamitha

I think Laura Ingalls Wilder is more important to me now as I get older than even when I was a child. After all, she didn't even begin to get published until after she was 60. And all she did was write down the stories of her life for her children! Wow. And she still lives on! Please sign me up!

miss
02-29-2008, 05:54 PM
Welcome, Pamitha!

And OrganicMama, I hope you'll join us.

Just wanted to let everyone know you do not have to have "junk/ junque" or "Pam" in your username to join! :)

Pamitha
03-01-2008, 11:24 PM
What if I DO have Pam in my user name?????? Geee whiz.

Here are my first two. One is called "Gathering Eggs" and the other "Prairie Crossing." Do you think Laura looked like Holly Hobby? At least, her user name does not have Pam or Junk in it!

Junquejo
03-01-2008, 11:50 PM
Pamitha... those are so awesome.... and I liked Holly Hobby too!! :D

PamPie
03-02-2008, 12:14 AM
Pam, those two are so charming!!

Pamitha
03-02-2008, 12:45 AM
Don't give me too much credit. The Prairie Crossing is from the Cover of Little House on the Prairie. I have the entire set of Laura's books!

miss
03-02-2008, 12:28 PM
Gorgeous, Pamitha!

And of course it's OK to have Pam (or Junk) in a username... just letting people know we're not exclusive here... :)

Pamitha
03-03-2008, 04:05 AM
Here's one called "School Days" Hope you like it?

PamPie
03-03-2008, 09:57 AM
Yes, I like it! Of course, we see Laura from the back, and not the front to know if she has apples stuffed into her chest... okay that was from the TV show. Do you remember that episode where she wanted to appear busty, and while she was presenting something in front of the class, one of the apples fell?! LOL...

miss
03-03-2008, 05:58 PM
Great job again, Pamitha! I'm going to have to get going on my own cards :)

miss
03-05-2008, 05:41 PM

Anyone else want to play?

miss
03-12-2008, 07:07 PM
So, what is everyone's favorite Little House book(s)? I know PamPie mentioned On the Banks of Plum Creek and Little Town on the Prairie... I was always fond of the latter ones (from By the Shores of Silver Lake to These Happy Golden Years).

Cherry Bomb
03-12-2008, 07:36 PM
Can I join in? I've been a Laura fan since I was about 7. :) I think I loved By the Shores of Silver Lake the best, and On the Banks of Plum Creek. The Long Winter was my least favourite, but I probably read it a billion times anyway. I also loved Farmer Boy. :)

PamPie
03-12-2008, 10:08 PM
Yes, Farmer Boy I always liked too, just because I was so fascinated by all the tons of things they had to do to run a farm!

miss
03-13-2008, 05:02 PM
And all the food mentions in Farmer Boy made my mouth water. The Wilders sure could eat! :)

Welcome, Cherry Bomb! And Pamitha, I received your cards today. They're even better in person than on the scans.

basset43
03-14-2008, 03:52 AM
little town on the prarie and the long cold winter were my faves Iliked the latter ones best too but I think that was because it coincided with my age at the time I read them

Pamitha, those cards are terrific. You are getting me inspired. I have been in the process of going through my Little House Books -- but have been getting sidetracked reading them. I'm going to have to make at least one card this week and post it.....

miss
03-16-2008, 06:29 PM
I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with! :)

Pamitha, your cards are great -- I haven't started mine yet.
Of all the books, I think I like Little House of the Prairie and the Long Winter best. Many years ago I visited the real Laura Ingalls Wilder House in DeSmet, SD. That was the year before the TV show started. So you can see I've been a fan for a long time.

Pamitha
03-31-2008, 02:17 AM
I'm done. But before you think I'm tooting my horn, I'm in another swap that is due Tuesday and they won't be mailed until Monday. I think The Little House took off with me in a wave of energy and left all my other swaps in the dust!!!!

Oh my! How adorable!

What does one do at a Little House party, by the way? I would have loved to go to one when I was nine (or now, for that matter... :) ).

Oh my! How adorable!

What does one do at a Little House party, by the way? I would have loved to go to one when I was nine (or now, for that matter... :) ).

The kids built little 'log cabins' from graham crackers and candies...then just played.

If I were hosting, I would've had them dip candles, make butter (churn it, baby!) and found some period games to play (rolling a big hoop or something?) My mom is an American History teacher, so she would know what is kosher. :)

When I was much, much younger, my mom put together a Laura costume for me - however, I have natural curls, and they were not long enough to braid. So, she sewed a bonnet, made long thick braids from brown yarn, and then tucked my hair up in the bonnet with the yarn braids hanging out. I wonder if I can put my hands on a photo - might take some digging.
Several years later, I had the opportunity to wear most of that costume again (sans yarn braids!) - my girl scout troup spent one week (5 days) during a summer in costume at a local historical museum where we had lessons in the school house, sang hymns in the church, played games (something like kickball?), and picnicked for lunch - it was fun  Wonder what kind of badge I earned...if any...

Sarah, your daughter looks adorable!
