I would be happy to host a Found Poetry A Thon for the Memorial Holiday Weekend, whose interested?

What Is Found Poetry? To create a “Found” poem, begin with a page of text. This can be a page in a book, an advertisement, brochure, flyer, or anything that’s written text. For this “a-thon” we are working from one page for each poem.

Read through the page you will be working from (must be something you are willing to cut up) and choose words to create your poem or offbeat verse. If you’ve ever played with a magnetic poetry set then you get the concept!
After you’ve chosen your words, cut them out and with your best attempt at keeping them grammatically correct (you can steal letters from other words if you need to add endings such as “s”, “es” or “ing.”)

After you’ve assembled your poem you will collage it to the ATC card you are creating. Some people like to create their art first then find the words but personally I prefer to “write” the poem then create the art to accompany it. You may use any medium to create your cards, they can be collaged or hand drawn but the words do need to be collaged on to your card if you are painting or drawing your backgrounds.

Another fun form of Found Poetry is Blackout Poetry. Choose a paragraph to work from that will fit your ATC then black out (paint over) the words you won’t be using to create your poem. Below are some examples of both types of found poetry.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions in the thread we will do our best to answer them. Have fun, this is low pressure; we aren’t looking for Robert Frost here!

Examples: (last one is from AmyFaerie (More to come.)

Those are so cool. I've done a little of that but in shorter sayings, not as poetic...

I will try to play some even it's just finding the poetry to use later. Words are always the hardest part for me when making atc's etc..

Don't know if I should vote yes because I'm really not sure how much time I'll have...

I haven't made too many of these so I'm pretty new at it but it should be fun to give it a try for an "athon."

may be able to ... working most of the weekend, handsome husband will be gone, so will need something to keep me busy when I can't sleep. (when I travel I can sleep, when he's not at home, I can't ... go figure)

o_o I will try as hard as I can to be there for this. I LOVE found poetry. I might not be able to actually mail out trades for a little while, but I like having an excuse to do art :biglaugh:

I don't have any text pages in English but if other languages are fine, then I can maybe take part in this.

In the last Found Poetry A-thon I used german text pages, too, and wrote the translation on the back of the cards.

Definitely Sanna, I'm sure many of us would like poetry in another language, especially if you translate for us!

I would sure like to try this. I've never done it before so I don't know how good I can be at this. I might just stop in and look before I start if that ok.

Oh jump right in Dsign, it's lots of fun and I'm sure it will be much better than you think it is and from what I can see this is a wonderful, warm group of artist!
