View Full Version : Impromptu Memorial Weekend FOUND POETRY A THON

Pages : [1] 2

The Impromptu Memorial Weekend Found Poetry-a-thon is scheduled May 28-31st. Hosted by RobbyGirl.

A marathon weekend to “get together” virtually and create Found Poetry. Everyone will participate over the same days and times in each time zone . . . kind of like we were all together for the weekend to play with our art supplies!

Start time (in your time zone) 12:00am on Friday May 28th (That’s tonight) 2010.
End time (in your time zone) 11:59 pm Monday, May 31st, 2010

Post your cards to the thread and the gallery as you create them. You can trade them or just share them with the group, whatever your inclination.
EVERYONE is welcome to come play/visit.

What Is Found Poetry? To create a “Found” poem, begin with a page of text. This can be a page in a book, an advertisement, brochure, flyer, or anything that’s written text. For this “a-thon” we are working from one page for each poem.

Read through the page you will be working from (must be something you are willing to cut up) and choose words to create your poem or offbeat verse. If you’ve ever played with a magnetic poetry set then you get the concept!
After you’ve chosen your words, cut them out and with your best attempt at keeping them grammatically correct (you can steal letters from other words if you need to add endings such as “s”, “es” or “ing.”)

After you’ve assembled your poem you will collage it to the ATC card you are creating. The card can be collaged, hand drawn, painted, digital or Mixed Media just so long as your found poem is collaged onto the art. Some people like to create their art first then find the words and some prefer to “write” the poem then create the art to accompany it.

Another fun form of Found Poetry is Blackout Poetry. Choose a paragraph to work from that will fit your ATC then black out (paint over) the words you won’t be using to create your poem. Below are some examples of both types of found poetry.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions in the thread we will do our best to answer them. Have fun, this is low pressure; we aren’t looking for Robert Frost here!

Amyfaerie, Found Poetry Artist Extraordinaire is usually my co host for the Found Poetry A Thons. She wasn’t available this weekend but you can find her wonderful article on creating found poetry in Issue 9 of Art Trader Magazine (http://www.arttradermag.com/issues/ArtTrader_Issue9.pdf)

a teacher's link explaining found poetry (http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/found-poems-parallel-poems-33.html)

HHC has graciously "lent" us the following info, too!

It’s a marathon create-your-favorite-art weekend, done over the same day and time in each time zone.
It’s kind of like we were all together for the weekend to play with our art supplies and this thread is our play room.
HOW IT WORKS: During the prescribed time of play (your own time zone) start creating art, then upload your lovely creations to your gallery and post to the thread. Continue throughout the weekend. Trading and chatting ensues. At 11:59 on Monday, May 31st you’re done creating art… however you may continue to chat and trade as long as you like. Also you can post any pieces that aren’t dry at the prescribed time as long as they were completed within the time frame.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to pm RobbyGirl, or post your questions to the thread. We have a lot of experienced art-a-thoners who are more than willing to help those of you new to this craziness.

HOW TO ASK FOR A TRADE: When you find a piece of art you must have, please SEND A PERSONAL MESSAGE (pm) to that person asking for a trade. Please DO NOT post requests for trades to the thread. It can get way too confusing.

Note: If you do make a trade, please be sure to send to your trade partner within two weeks. If you’re running late, communicate!

WANT TO COMPLIMENT AN ARTIST: And you will… remember you can click the You Rock button and leave it there.

From your atcsforall.com gallery: It’s easiest to have two windows open. I can create another "tab" and get to my gallery in one and be in my post reply box in the other.
1) Go to your gallery & right click on the picture you wish to post - this brings up a menu that includes “Copy Image Location”.
2) Click on the “Copy Image Location”
3) Go to your post and hit the "insert image" button (looks like a postcard)
4) Paste the address (right click, click paste or Ctrl P) into the window that pops up and hit OK - that puts the code into your post for your picture to show up; (you paste the address from the properties box over the http thingy that shows when you open the "insert image" box)
5) and then you're done.

(leaving the last bracket off the above so you can see how the address will look)

Remember that images from the gallery can be small, medium or large. Find the word small, medium or large or letters s m l in the address and change it to size you want.

From your computer:
1. Click POST REPLY at the bottom of the messages screen. Above the message box, click the paperclip next to the smiley face. Then upload as usual. This will upload your picture as a thumbnail.
2. If you go into the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the messages screen, click GO ADVANCED and you will get the paperclip above the message box.

yippie yippie yay!

05-27-2010, 01:38 PM
Trying to get my room cleaned up from the last one so I'll be ready.

05-27-2010, 01:40 PM
Well I got my trade make swap done and my husbands Birthday gift done late last night. Both are in my gallery. Now I just have to make the By the Sea Chunky Swap (which I already started) and two single 4x4 trades. If I get these done I'll have sometime to play.

My husbands schedule was changed again so he will only be home Sat afternoon and leave again Sunday afternoon. This time of year (fireseason) is his busy time and we have to take it day by day since his schedule is always changing.

05-27-2010, 01:42 PM
See you all later ... ahem, tomorrow! :D

05-27-2010, 01:45 PM
I am excited to try this. My first thought this morning was to go grab the books and pages I have set aside for cutting up. But I need to do these 4x4's first. LOL

05-27-2010, 01:48 PM
I'll get a little time in! I've prepped a few backgrounds. :)

05-27-2010, 02:21 PM
I will definitely be doing this, loved your 'found poetry' swap. robby baybee and my hubby is away all weekend diving (we also have a holiday here in the UK on Monday). yahoo, three cheers for rg.

05-27-2010, 05:34 PM
Cool, I just made some cool "Citra Solve" backgrounds and this would be perfect. I'll see how much I can do! :D

05-27-2010, 05:38 PM
I so want to do this, however without a scanner, wondering if anyone would want to trade if I posted my poems' words??? Will try it and see...

05-27-2010, 06:45 PM
I haven't tried one of these yet, but I'll see if I can't give it a go this weekend.

05-27-2010, 07:15 PM
I so want to do this, however without a scanner, wondering if anyone would want to trade if I posted my poems' words??? Will try it and see...

if you don't have a digital camera ... can you take a photo with your cell phone and email to yourself? (can you tell I've had a techie friend help me out in the past?! LOL)

05-27-2010, 07:18 PM
jazzie ~ after looking at your gallery, it gives a good representation of your style, I wouldn't mind doing a "blind" trade this weekend....now I have to get to work tonight and make something to trade!!! :)

05-27-2010, 07:24 PM
Jazzie - I'll do a blind trade also.

Tlsexton0913 - I can't wait to see your citrasolv backgrounds!

05-27-2010, 07:26 PM
Same here, jazzie!

05-27-2010, 07:26 PM
Me Too Jazzie, the cards you sent for my Famous Author's Quotes swap were fantastic!

05-27-2010, 07:39 PM
I can vouch for jazzie's returns in the Tower of Babel swap!

Going to my BF's for the Memorial Day weekend. I will try to pack enough goodies to make ATCs for this event while I'm there. We have set up a joint art room, but it really only has the basics in it for now.

05-27-2010, 10:31 PM
Cool, I just made some cool "Citra Solve" backgrounds and this would be perfect. I'll see how much I can do! :D
What are CitraSolve backgrounds? (Yep...I'm a rookie...)

05-27-2010, 11:32 PM
Helene, It is a cool technique used to alter the pages of a national geographic magazine, It was originally done with terpentine as shown in this link...
http://atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3895 But Citra solve is safer and spells a whole lot better. You can get Citra Solve where cleaning products are sold.

Also This link has a bunch of links that are fun and informative about lots of things...

05-28-2010, 12:19 AM
me: FPAT weekend, woot! woot!
my dog: quizzically looks up as if to say, 'isn't it time for bed?'
me: I'll go to bed here soon, but I'm almost done...just one more snip....and one more... swipe....of glue stick....
my dog: *long sigh* which when translated means 'at this rate she's not gonna be up to make or post anything else until tomorrow afternoon'

05-28-2010, 12:59 AM
Hurray for Chamele the first post of the A-Thon. Hope I can make till midnight so I can create something tonight too!

05-28-2010, 01:29 AM
Here is the "artist" link for Citra Solv:

There are many artsy-fartsy things you can do with Citra Solve, but a regular size bottle is like $12.00 and they say to "cut a slit and pour", but you really don't need to; just make sure you use a liberal amount to make sure the ink on the paper gets distorted.

Also, I don't like using the plastic wrap as they suggest. I really like putting two pages together and then pulling them apart. Such cool effects. My friend, okwiccan, came over on Wednesday and showed me how to do it. We had a blast and I even used some pages for my altered art journal!

05-28-2010, 05:11 AM
Here are my first submissions ... hope they are poetic enough...
4x4 pages: thick gesso, stamped into it, painted over, then glued on collage pieces
http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/2964/medium/1_fpat_001.jpgnot for trade

05-28-2010, 10:08 AM

05-28-2010, 10:26 AM
And my second one:

05-28-2010, 10:48 AM
Good Morning! I just woke up and need to feed the dogs and then I'm going to get started! I stayed up a bit after midnight and cut out two poems so I'll start the art for those first thing. Wonderful textural pieces JAW. Chamele you really made me laugh with you drunken bees! Evalila I adore your 2nd card, the poem is beautiful!!! Usually I'd say all this in repbut I repped everyone for playing and it won't let me bachk in yet.

05-28-2010, 12:16 PM
Oh man - I am so torn. It is another GORGOUS DAY here so I desperately need to be outside. But then I really want to make some of these. I'll go whip up some breakfast for the kiddo's and see if I can't whip up some Found Poetry while they eat. BRB (I hope)

05-28-2010, 12:40 PM
Great cards everyone esp. the stmped in gesso 4x4 and the German poem. I still have to get on the road and drive to Bloomington before I can think about playing. Save some cards for me. Also look forward to seeing the CitaSolv pages.

:3 I can't wait to get started on this this weekend! I'm out on the town for today though :(

05-28-2010, 01:08 PM
Already I want to trade for everything I see. I'd better go get started making some cards.

05-28-2010, 01:18 PM
I've made my first ever Found Poetry ATC. I used decoupage and it takes time to dry.

05-28-2010, 01:43 PM

05-28-2010, 01:45 PM
Julie, those are lovely poems! My "poems" are more like a sentence or just a statement.

05-28-2010, 01:49 PM
thanks Sanna! that's what I keep coming up with (statements) ... That's when I turned to Haiku ... I can count syllables! LOL! This is very challenging!

05-28-2010, 02:02 PM
That's when I turned to Haiku ... I can count syllables!

I can't hyphenate English words. I can do it in two other languages and it's enough for me .

05-28-2010, 02:07 PM
all the lonely secret lessons
patient and severe, she was stealing his art,
I heard the pleasure, a small bubble -
the bright blade in her voice,
It's thanks to your shade.

05-28-2010, 02:08 PM
I'll have to take a stab at haiku, as I'm using a fictional work about Japan this weekend
for my FPATs.

05-28-2010, 02:28 PM
Here is my first card.

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/296/large/4_4.jpg FPAT #1 TRADED

"She understood that they do not belong to her anymore and they are away forever"

Who knows what is the language? Native speakers of that language can't guess please.

05-28-2010, 02:43 PM
Is that swedish? (lovely, by the way!)

Evil Seedlet
05-28-2010, 02:43 PM
Hmm, there are plenty of cognates with English.. I want to say German but I don't think that's right, haha.

05-28-2010, 02:46 PM
Yup, it's Swedish. My second language.

05-28-2010, 02:55 PM
LOL! I almost said German, but it seems to me that German ends with more consonants.

05-28-2010, 03:00 PM
My last two before I have to head to work!
http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/2964/medium/1_fpat_007.jpg#7 http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/2964/medium/1_fpat_008.jpg#8

05-28-2010, 03:48 PM
Oh wow! More great cards! Here are my first. Digging into a Nat Geo today and learning a lot while I'm doing this.

Ambition, Cultural Change, Moon Rocks, Nipping at Him, Safe Haven

05-28-2010, 04:01 PM
Hi everone. I am STILL working on my chunky pages... and I need to do some cleaning etc. I hope I get time to play today...

Cool poetry everyone. I have a question some of the words look more like they were done with labeler or something with dark backgrounds, and some have different script colors on a single card, are all these words found on a single page? does it matter, I thought that was a rule?

05-28-2010, 04:11 PM
I have some drying now. Great cards everyone! Kristin I adore your "Ambition" piece!

05-28-2010, 04:14 PM
Thank you!

05-28-2010, 04:49 PM
Howdy! We just got home from a camping trip... so if I can get stuff put away and laundry started, I hope to be back yet this evening. I work tomorrow and Sunday, but should be able to get a few done. :D

I love all the poetry you're doing!

05-28-2010, 05:12 PM
Okay, I'm a mighty slow artist but finally here are my first two:

05-28-2010, 05:28 PM
Great cards so far guys! Hopefully I can get going in 5 hours or so and add to the bunch! *crosses fingers*

05-28-2010, 05:37 PM
...I have a question some of the words look more like they were done with labeler or something with dark backgrounds, and some have different script colors on a single card, are all these words found on a single page? does it matter, I thought that was a rule?

I was wondering too. Do the words have to be found from the same page? I was having trouble finding a "his" instead of a "him" on the page I was working on, so I found a "his" from a different page. Is this allowed? This is my first found poetry athon so I want to do it right. My first two cards, ended up being more statements than poetry, is that still okay? I will work on more this evening and try to get a better grasp of this. I have 2 done, just haven't had a chance to post them yet. Been working in the yard. Will be back later to post and get answers.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Evil Seedlet
05-28-2010, 06:09 PM
I can't speak for the makers, but even if you pull text from a single page of a magazine the texts could have several different fonts and colors, and have dark backgrounds depending on what the text was overlayed on. I used to make found poetry before I knew what it was by using words and letters from article titles out of my YM magazines. Kind of like the "ransom note" style.

05-28-2010, 06:17 PM
This is my first FPAT so I'm interested in the answer also. So far I've been lucky and found everything on the same page but I'm not sure how easy that will be on future cards.

A few water themed cards:

Perfect Altitude, Rare Air, Vertical Repose

05-28-2010, 06:42 PM
here are my first fpat cards. having fun but getting tired, so may go to bed soon and see ya all tomorrow (my tomorrow).

05-28-2010, 07:27 PM
2 more:

Long Journeys, Wild Islands

This is just way too much fun!

05-28-2010, 07:45 PM
Ooo Kristen I want to turn Wild islands into a jam and add a mermaid! LOL

05-28-2010, 08:05 PM
Mermaid sounds good to me! Actually a jam on our FPATs would be fun.

05-28-2010, 08:10 PM
Lots of awesome cards everyone, I'm so glad you all came to play :wubclub: Here's my next one

05-28-2010, 08:41 PM

Love what I am seeing so far! And Joss - I SO WANT that OOH La La Card!!! Love the Big Girl Panties! LOL

05-28-2010, 08:49 PM
My last 2 Nat Geo found poetry for the day. I'm going to switch to a different type and spend tonight trying to plan out some cards for tomorrow.

Majesty, Quashing Kudzu

05-28-2010, 09:09 PM
The goal is to make one page work but I think it's okay to take liberties, it's all in good fun this weekend, so have it any way that works for you!!.
I personally count one page as the page I've torn out, both sides, if that helps any.

Sometimes poetry can be a statement, the main idea behind poetry, IMHO is to evoke emotion, any emotion, humor, thought provocation, sadness, happiness etc. So I hope you'll all appreciate that I was going for humor on my next post!

jaw, KESagers, mrubyjean, RobbyGirl, and GoldenWolf you're all so sweet - thank you for the kind words and willingness to trade with me, but GUESS WHAT?! My roomie and I were in town today (picking up mail GoldenWolf) and we went to the thrift store next door and found the power cord for my printer for .50 cents!!! YES FIFTY CENTS!!! I was trying to figure out how to scrounge up the $70 it would have cost to get a new one and am so thrilled I don't have to worry about that anymore. So I'm up and running and will be able to scan and able to start doing found poetry all weekend long. :~] Doing a happy dance!

05-28-2010, 11:02 PM
Robin - I love 'This Man'! Can I put dibs on it if no one else has?

05-28-2010, 11:09 PM
The Kisses one was my first attempt. Then the one with my kiddo's heads. And I think I am finally getting the hang of it a wee bit with the 3rd one.

Just catching up on everyone's posts .... some great work here guys!! :jiggy:
I do like robbygirl does, one page, but may use things from either side. Mine are mainly from magazines so lots of different fonts and sizes.

05-29-2010, 01:13 AM
I'm off to bed, look forward to playing again tomorrow. You guys really got this a-thon off to a stellar start....You All Rock :wubclub::notworthy::wubclub::notworthy:

05-29-2010, 01:17 AM
here's one more for this evening. I've got several "poems" layed out after much toiling. They just need some images to accompany them and they'll be ready to go. I'm currently just using magazine pages, and trying to stick with just getting words from the one side of the page..... that can be a challenge, but in a good way. I think it would be easier with a little wine. :D

05-29-2010, 01:20 AM
Oh my, such great poetry being assembled. I can't wait to start. I think I'll bring some pages to work with me so I can start cutting. It's gonna be a long day until I get home and have the rest of the holiday weekend off.

05-29-2010, 01:38 AM
One more I've finished... and I'm off to bed.

Okay here is the last one for tonight - honest!! These are starting to get fun. :) ~ TTFN

05-29-2010, 02:20 AM
Trina - love your 'unwanted secrets' poem/collage! Great color combos and composition.

05-29-2010, 03:19 AM
Good morning. I don't know if I have too much time to make ATCs today but maybe I can make some.

I have done all my poems just useing one book page. The text is so small and there are so many words on one page. It was easy to find the words I wanted to find. Or I had just too good luck yesterday :). But I don't care if the words are from one page or several pages as long as the text is nice :).

05-29-2010, 04:06 AM
Here are the two I was able to do tonight ... I have some "poems" cut out that I need to figure out the backgrounds to. I'll have to figure them out tomorrow night.

Good morning! Great cards everyone! I love Indescribable, robbygirl!

I have a few poems ready... however no time to make backgrounds. I'm off to work for the day.

05-29-2010, 10:34 AM
I'm making some new cards today. Just few hours and I'll finish the half made cards.

05-29-2010, 11:14 AM
Good Morning all! Great cards posted in my slumber. I'll see if I can get my act together and make some more today.

05-29-2010, 11:55 AM
I made one lastnight but was too tired to post it. I'm going to scan it now and post in a bit!

05-29-2010, 12:16 PM
Two Found Poetry Hints of the Day!

1) If you have "writers block" try cutting up a page into individual words so that you don't get lost in reading the author's work. Then play with the words like refrigerator poetry magnets until you create a poem you like.

2) Put a finish on your card, don't trust the glue to hold on those pesky little words over time they have a tendency to fall off without some type of a top coating.

05-29-2010, 12:19 PM
Morning everyone. You all are so amazing.

Could I ask a favor? Could all of you post images at least medium size or large? I can not read the poetry on the small cards and my computer/internet is soo slow, it is taking the pleasure out of looking at them when I have to click each card and wait so long.

If you are uploading with the advanced attachments, after uploading click the manage atachments paperclip and at the bottom is an insert images... this takes them out of the boxframe and makes them bigger.

05-29-2010, 12:19 PM
Okay, here's my first contribution:

Linda, my pictures are as large as this site allows to post them now. But they seem to be very small.

05-29-2010, 01:07 PM
I realized last night after reading the first page that what I was doing with magazines, I guess is considered "Ransom Note" poetry. So, I am just letting you know that those are in my gallery and today I plan on actually doing it the right way! :goofy:

05-29-2010, 01:14 PM
Alright, my last three - I really, really need to do some yard work, but this is toooo much fun!

Vacant Time - Traded
Art Therapy - Traded
Concidence - Traded

05-29-2010, 01:29 PM
Sanna, thank you, actually yours are large enough to see. I have trouble with the ones bluesy just posted, I can read the last one but not the first and second one unless I click on it...

I am spending my day with my sweet husband, but I do have some pages I can work on poetry while sitting next to him. I already have 4 ready but I may not get to make the cards till tomorrow night or Monday.

I was wondering how all of you keep your little pieces together? do you cut them out ahead of time? I finally came up with something that works great, I place them on the sticky part of a small post-it and have them ready to go...

05-29-2010, 01:32 PM
I use 3 mm wide double side tape and I don't use any glue. When I cut the words, I put them on the tape and when my poem is ready, I just cut the tape between the words.

05-29-2010, 01:45 PM

So many more wonderful cards I want to trade. Down with a very painful sore throat and fever today so I'm a little too distracted to play but I hope I can jump in again before the weekend is over. My gallery is up to date on what I have available and I'll keep checking the thread today to see everyone's fine art.

05-29-2010, 02:00 PM
Hope you feel better soon, Kristin!

....... my scanner broke. I can't believe it. I used it just 2 days ago to scan some cards and it was working perfectly fine. I went to scan a card I made last night for this and it just wouldn't even turn on.

We have an old crappy printer scanner we might be able to hook up. I'll keep making cards and hopefully post a bunch later. This really sucks.

05-29-2010, 03:46 PM
So many great new cards! I want them all.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Seedlet - here's hoping your old scanner works. I know that's how it is - no warning they just stop working.

05-29-2010, 03:52 PM
WOW! I cut up the authors name, but I actually got 11 FP's from one two sided page of "A Song For St. Cecilia's Day" and I have the main image for all but three of them from my newest Toscano catalog... LOL gotta get these cards made...

05-29-2010, 04:36 PM
I am enjoying all of your art and poetry so much everyone! I wanted to tell you I am having a truly self-indulgent day, never-mind that I'm still in my jammies at 1:30 in the afternoon or that I've let my Son play video games all day unfettered but the sandwhich I just made for lunch eh-hem (Chocolate Chip Waffles with Bananas, Nutella and Cream cheese in the middle...Oh My!) No one wake me up okay!

05-29-2010, 04:43 PM

46093The cards keep getting better and better.

Kristin I hope you will feel much better soon. I love your art.

05-29-2010, 04:55 PM

Here's my first card.
All of the words were taken from pj. 128 from the romance novel by Roberta Leigh, One Girl at a Time.

05-29-2010, 06:03 PM
Here's another. "Embrace". Words are from the book One Girl at a time by Roberta Leigh, page 156. This says:
How doesd it feel to be embraced and kissed. Like thunderous applause. Too wonderful to analyze. Numb.

05-29-2010, 06:18 PM
I have four almost dry enough to scan. I'm actually having fun with these...

My hubby is gone back to work. IF his schedule doesn't get changed again I'll get to see him again Thursday. And I really hope fireseason holds off for few more weeks cause I have my trip south for my sons graduation and I don't have to rush back if he is here for the cat.

Last one for tonight..

05-30-2010, 08:41 PM
Still working on my next set. Hoping to have them ready to upload tomorrow. Really enjoying all the new cards. How cool that so many of us are new to this!

05-30-2010, 09:13 PM
So, I have a question....when you do found poetry cards...do you find words, or images first? I am having a hard time getting the hang of where to start to make it come together! I am trying to push myself into making something and get back into art-ing...but, am just seeing a swirling black hole in my head where ideas belong! LOL

05-30-2010, 09:22 PM
I had the same question but started cutting out words. Then, I looked for images and put words with them. This is my first Found Poetry session and I'm enjoying it now.

Just Ducky
05-30-2010, 09:23 PM
hi Tam... well for me, I found the picture first and then spent the next 2 hours looking for the words.... but even for me being a slow mover... this was really slow... so I really not much help for you... just let your mind go with the flo... even a black hole is pretty...

05-30-2010, 09:25 PM
Hi everyone! Wow, you've been busy while I was at work! I'll have a couple from this morning in a few minutes... I hope. Temperamental scanner sometimes works a bit slower than other times.

Tammy, I find the words and then figure out a background. It's too hard the other way for me. I pick a page, find the poetry and then see if I have a background prepped that will work or if I need to create one.

What terrific work! And I've just caught up w. the last 3 pages...thought I'd have a dull weekend, but I've been busy, so I've just managed 4 cards. Here they are:

Oh that is priceless! I LOVE it! I just found out about this, I haven't got any cards completed yet, however, I am off to make some. I'll post as soon as I can.

05-30-2010, 10:22 PM
I finally have some ready to post, but I'm not quite sure what's available. I love this technique so much, that I'm in full hoarding mode. Which is stupid, because I know I need to let some go to get some of the great art in these pages, but alas, I'm stuck. I will try to detach myself from some of my cards and get more tomorrow (we have tomorrow yet don't we?) so I can actually trade.

05-30-2010, 10:26 PM
I actually go back and forth between finding the images and words first. Sometimes there are some really easy poems that just pop out and then I find some pictures, but if nothing is coming to mind I'll just make a neat card and then look for words and phrases that might fit it. I think it's been roughly 50/50 so far.

05-30-2010, 10:28 PM
So I was just wondering why they are so big, when I remembered I sized them for my blog. Sorry bout that, I don't know how to change the size in the forums, but here are my other three:

tomorrow I will size any I make better before uploading.

05-30-2010, 10:30 PM
My backgrounds are abstract, so I just worry about the poem then match them to a background.

Do you know that it's okay to keep some cards to yourself? There are times when something you create speaks to you and to be true to yourself, you must keep it with you.
If you get to the point you can release them, cool. Otherwise, you deserve to savor the originals yourself. We are enjoying them from your gallery. :)

05-30-2010, 10:34 PM
Helen- That is great advice!!!

05-30-2010, 10:51 PM
Nice artwork and poetry today!

BTW, I definitely find my words first and worry about backgrounds later. Although I do have a sense, of course, of what images and background materials I am likely to have available.

Took awhile to get my cards together...

Well, I am thinking I just don't have the right type of material to "find" found poetry! LOL

I just can't get myself to tear up books, and the magazines I have available have not thrown their words into my face! Maybe at work tonight I will have some time to peruse the magazines available there--and something will jump out at me!

Tomorrow is another day! lol

05-31-2010, 12:13 AM
Tamrantula So far I have started with the words for all mine. I strugled with my first one but I think it way the book I was using, that maybe your problem too. I have lots of pages from extras given in trades, from thrift store books and then some I got in a grab bag of book pages I bought from skybluepink.com (I think thats the name it has all kinds of atc stuff). Anyways I found some that are the words to songs or poetry and I got 11 Fp's out of one song using both sides of the page.

A tip I found easier too, I stick the litte words onto the sticky part of a small post it, write a title/subject on it and slip it into a penny sleeeve till I'm ready to put it onto my background. I lost a couple pieces when I first started and this is much better.

05-31-2010, 12:13 AM
Here are some food themed ones:

Pasta Dinnner, Tomatoes and Garlic, Italian Restaurant

Oh! Great idea for hanging on to words! I was tihnking of going out and buying some baggies to keep phrases seperate from each other, but I like the sticky-note idea much better!

Actually--you are a big reason of why I am reluctant to get serious about playing this FPAT--I REALLY need to get your card done, first...but, just got no mojo to sit and do it.....and I don't want to do ANYTHING else till your owed card is done. BUT--on the other hand...I need to do something to kick my mojo in the buttinski! LOL

05-31-2010, 12:19 AM
I found old Nat Geos to be a great source for found poetry. A lot of times the article next to the picture I used had great descriptive words. (Plus I got to skim the articles at the same time.) Who knew one magazine had so many uses?!

I'm loving all the citrasolv backgrounds I'm seeing this weekend!

05-31-2010, 12:23 AM
Oooh--I have dozens of those....good idea, KESagers! Will have to pull a hand-full out of the attic!

05-31-2010, 12:25 AM
RobbyGirl had a tip earlier that can help. Find a few words or phrases and play like refridgerator magnets. :)

OH! And if you're doing a top coating, make sure any ink you've put on the card has completely dried. Ask me how I know... LOL! Patience is not my strongest virtue. :)

05-31-2010, 01:00 AM
Night everyone! See you tomorrow!

05-31-2010, 01:18 AM
Words vs. Images? Words are easier for me as I've always been a natural speed reader and play tons and tons of word games, so I usually choose or create images that I like first, then find my poems to compliment them. I was so thrilled to find the words Salmon, Pink, Crayolas and Nipples from the pages of one of the garage sales books I picked up for this purpose...LOL...Little Alters Everywhere.

Tam, I had a hard time tearing up books when I first started doing Found Poetry but really I like them so much better than magazines. What helped me was to pick up .25 books from Garage Sales that were pretty beat up and stuff I would never read. Also I got books from the Free Rack at my library. As a bonus one of the books I picked up at a garage sale ended up being an early edition of Moby Dick and quite valuable (obviously didn't tear that one up!)

Next time we trade, I'll send you a bunch of already torn out pages so you don't have to feel bad :err:

05-31-2010, 01:20 AM
Patience is not my strongest virtue.

Mine either, you should see all the paint, glue, glitter and paperbits stuck to my scanner....LOL

Helen how do you get the quote to reference the original post like you did above...very cool?

05-31-2010, 01:35 AM
night, night,

See you all tomorrow :)

05-31-2010, 01:55 AM
Good Night Everyone thank you all for sharing your wonderful art and poetry and I appreciate all the wonderful trades! I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

05-31-2010, 02:09 AM
Tam I told you I'm in no hurry. I plan to be around for a loong time.

05-31-2010, 02:33 AM
Mine either, you should see all the paint, glue, glitter and paperbits stuck to my scanner....LOL

Helen how do you get the quote to reference the original post like you did above...very cool? You hit the Quote(third) button on the bottom of the post and it opens a reply box with the quote in it.

If you want to quote from multiple posts, use the fouth button (quote+) and when you have all the quotes you want hit the third button to ope your reply box.

NOTE you need to watch for the [ QUOTE=name; 710291 ] and [ /QUOTE ] If you seperate the brackets or something it messes up and you don't get get your quote box.

Good morning everyone. I see lots more lovely cards. I'm not sure what happened to me yesterday. I thought I was inspired but I actually only made one card, two if you count the remake of Nature, What Art I made for a second trade.

I did get all my chunky pages glazed, chunked, and wrapped, and backs on most of my cards. The rest of the day was spent popping in here, answering pm's, setting up rolo trades, or visiting the the gallery and leaving comments which also led to more trades with some special orders I have to make. So not sure if I'll get much fp done today either. Here is the card I did last night..
