View Full Version : Who's ready for a Collage-a-thon Aug 20-22?

08-09-2010, 09:18 PM
Just Ducky and I were chatting, and decided we needed an old-fashioned collage-a-thon sooner, rather than later. And the weekend that works is Aug 20-22. Ducky and I are hosting our "CAT" starting at 12:00 noon on Friday Aug 20, and we'll play through Sunday night at 11:59.

This is the getting-us-ready thread, we'll post the "official thread a few days before we start.

The only requirement for participating and posting your art to the thread is to have at least one "collaged" item on your art.

ATC's, chunky pages, rollos, bookmarks, inchies, twinchies... whatever you want to make as long as it has at least one collage item.

Come play, or just visit and enjoy the eye candy.

08-09-2010, 09:19 PM
I'm starting to work on some backgrounds and have a pile of images to cut out...

What are you doing to get ready?

08-09-2010, 09:20 PM
I sure will play if I can.

08-09-2010, 09:21 PM
I'm going to try and paint some back grounds

08-09-2010, 11:01 PM
I can collage 4x4's a lot better than I can do 2.5X3.5 - do you think it's a mental block?

08-10-2010, 12:12 AM
Janjo33, it could be. LOL! It took me a long time to be able to move from 2.5 x 3.5 to a 4x4.

08-10-2010, 01:22 AM
I think I can play then. At least if my head doesn't decide something else and give me a migraine.

08-10-2010, 09:19 AM
Sniisk, I hope your migraines go away. They are no fun. I haven't had one in years, thank heavens, but know how awful they can be.

08-10-2010, 01:18 PM
Yahoo! I'm loving the 4x4 chunky making, plan on doing those and ATC's..maybe twinchies. I just love collage.

08-10-2010, 01:44 PM
WOOOOO HOOOO, I plan on doing some more Halloween chunkies and maybe some ATC's!!!! I can't waitttttttt

08-10-2010, 08:02 PM
Just waiting for the READY, SET, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

08-10-2010, 08:59 PM
I've been playing with house shaped Halloween chunky pages... in preparation for a class I'll be teaching at the store. So those are on my list.

Does anyone else misplace images? I was sure I had a folder with Halloween images in it and danged if I can find it. LOL!

08-10-2010, 09:14 PM
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSomeday, when we aren't on the move...I am going to organize everything thematically instead of media oriented!!!!!!!!!!!!:twitcy:

08-10-2010, 10:12 PM
 oh, well...can't win them all...I'll be out of town away from internet access for the whole weekend...can't even lurk...

08-11-2010, 12:32 AM
Oh bummer, Martha! We'll miss you and your fabulous art. Where are you going?

08-11-2010, 09:49 PM
I'll be working through that weekend (and every weekend, for the next month or two, until I'm laid off), but the eye candy and chatter will give me something to look forward to when I get home!

08-11-2010, 09:56 PM
That will be the first weekend that the students are back at school, but count me in. However, I am lousy at collage. I glued my fingers together the last time I tried

Just Ducky
08-12-2010, 12:16 AM
hay bluesy... ya got school starting that early ??? kids around here don't hit the books till
Sept. 7th... and just keep a wet towel on your lap and keep them fingers clean...

Martha... ya going away???? coming to Michigan???? nope ????:(
Sanna my friend... sure hope you can kick them migraines and come play with us ...

and lookie at all the great gals joining in... fun times they are a comin'

08-12-2010, 04:58 PM
so what do ya reackon..anyone planning on playing in the stamp a thon and collage a thon keeping their cards to post out till both are finished??? that way if you trade with the same person in both a thons u only need to mail out once... and only post out stamp a thon cards after this week end to people who aren't playing in the CAT??

08-12-2010, 05:24 PM
That's a good idea for some, but I get too confused when I try to combine two weekends together.

08-12-2010, 05:36 PM
Like that idea and have been doing in other ones lately.

Cat's Cradle
08-12-2010, 10:17 PM
I'll probably mail out each week, no matter who I'm mailing out to.

Already have a TON of images cut out. When I get catalogs in the mail, I scour them for good collage images. Even got my 11 year old making chunky pages with collage! (He's using the bigger pages from Target)

08-13-2010, 12:29 AM
I think it could be easier for me to mail two times. If anyone wants to mail the cards at the same time, just let me know and I'll do it too.

08-13-2010, 11:56 AM
I'll be on vacation in New Mexico for this one so I will have to read the thread and see what I missed.

08-13-2010, 09:02 PM
Have a great vacation, Goldenwolf. We'll miss you, but know you'll be having a fun time. :)

Just Ducky
08-13-2010, 09:10 PM
the duck and me are doing seperate mailings... I know I would get lost with 2 thons in one... but I sure do understand, especially the "over there" mailings going together.. prices being the way they are... so I might hold over the overseas mailings... maybe...

right now just grant me the wisdom to get through our S.A.T.

08-15-2010, 12:07 AM
I'm playing in the Stamp a-thon, and at a point where I'm stamping some backgrounds that will probably end up in the Collage-a-thon. I can do backgrounds easily... it's the figuring out what to add TO the background. LOL!

08-15-2010, 06:05 PM
Oh cool I will try to play in this a-thon also!!

Cat's Cradle
08-16-2010, 12:47 AM
I reckon I'll be using some of the stamped backgrounds I didn't use in the SAT for the CAT. And I already have plenty of images and rub-ons to add!

I'll have to show y'all my table during the CAT. I made two cards tonight and you can't see the table surface!

08-16-2010, 05:41 AM
Another CAT? Yay! IŽll play, too :D

08-16-2010, 12:05 PM
hope I can play! ... will be working most of the time ...

08-16-2010, 12:07 PM
Need to clean off my table, catch up on some special trades and my swaps and then I can play with a clear conscience on Friday.

Miss Iowa
08-16-2010, 12:18 PM
I'm interested in this! I just started an online collage class yesterday so I have collage on the brain. :jiggy:

08-16-2010, 08:32 PM
I'm gonna try to make a few things. I hope to make some inchies and a chunky or two. If anyone needs inspiration-I am really wanting to build up my collection of winged people and butterflies for my chunky book "Fly" and would love to trade this theme. hint hint. ;)

08-16-2010, 08:37 PM
Ohhh, HeatherR, I love that FLY idea for a book!

08-16-2010, 08:49 PM
Hmmmm winged people and butterflies.. Good inspiration.

08-16-2010, 08:50 PM
I'm going to try to be here. Have to work Friday and we'll have the grandchildren overnight Saturday, but I'll try to squeeze in a few. :)

Just Ducky
08-16-2010, 10:51 PM
ok... got my crafty table sweep clean from the S.A.T.. and now starting to reload to do C.A.T.
more cut and paste... layed in a suppy of glue sticks... sharpened the shears... but dang.. I got blank ideas.... so I have 3 and half days to THINK...

08-16-2010, 11:10 PM
Think, Ducky, Think! :twitcy:

08-16-2010, 11:52 PM
Should we have some daily themes or challenges? We have in the past. Prizes are too much work for this person since I work Friday and Sunday... what if Saturday is Winged Thing day? I am quite fond of butterflies and birds... both are winged, don't you know! :D

Any other ideas for themes/challenges?

08-17-2010, 01:37 AM
Winged things sound veeeeery good :).

Cat's Cradle
08-17-2010, 07:27 PM
I like the idea of themes. If you can't do a theme per day, you can do one theme over a couple of days.

That said, I like domestic and wild animals.

08-17-2010, 08:56 PM
I like vintage and anything Halloween-ish

08-17-2010, 09:49 PM
I'm starting to feel a bit better...finally. So I am going to be up for CAT. I haven't done much collage so I tried one tonight as a warm up.

08-17-2010, 10:02 PM
How doesn't love Halloween?!!! :jiggy:

Glad you're feeling better Luna.

08-17-2010, 10:33 PM
Yeah I love collage.......

Just Ducky
08-18-2010, 12:15 AM
how about ... Halloween, Sunday... thinking lots of us are going to be a bit weird come Sunday... especially us not so young'ins jumping back on the "thon" show after last weekends fun and wild S.A.T.

I know I will be abit SCAry by Sunday....

Miss Iowa
08-18-2010, 12:19 AM
I do mainly vintage. Not too much Halloween (have some rubber stamps, but no ephemera). Can probably add some wings here and there. :D I'm not a fast worker though, so this could be interesting!

Do y'all treat an "-athon" like a true marathon, and pull all-nighters with only limited potty breaks, etc? LOL

Just Ducky
08-18-2010, 12:33 AM
potty breaks are voluntary .... if you really need them...
but I do know by late late Sunday nite, you not really sure if you were going to stand up or about to sit down.... (lol)
the daily Challange is just a fun suggestion for anyone that wants to ... or like me, I need a push as to what to make... and some suggestion I like and others ??? I just say Naaa..

so just join in when you want... these will be mostly Collaged cards but other stuff will show up... inchies... chunky... other stuff... have fun.. that is the only requirement...

Just Ducky
08-18-2010, 12:37 AM
oh oh... nother ChaLLANge suggestion....

it's a ZOO out there... how about Friday or Sunday... ZOO/wild/animals... and of coarse
friendly pets are welcome...

ok.. I done for tonight... back to thinking... brain is waking up... and thats dangerous...

08-18-2010, 01:08 AM
And someone told me one time that stamping images, cutting them out and gluing them on is acceptable collage!!

08-18-2010, 01:37 AM
Theresa, that is what I'm doing most of the time :).

And a ZOO sounds good too!

08-18-2010, 09:46 AM
Good ideas... So what if we have the following themes/challenges:

Friday - Zoo
Saturday - Winged Things
Sunday - Halloween

Those are fairly broad, and are not at all required. As Ducky said, just something to get our creative juices flowing. :D

08-18-2010, 12:29 PM
Great ideas...challenges!

Miss Iowa
08-18-2010, 12:39 PM
I'd like to encourage vintage! :)

08-18-2010, 01:43 PM
I like the Challenges. Very good choses and a varity also

08-18-2010, 01:49 PM
The challenges are great! Can't wait two days... I'll be working tomorrow 12-15 hours and the day will go fast.

08-18-2010, 03:28 PM
Don't worry Miss Iowa I have a pile of vintage waiting to be collaged.;)

The "official" thread is up and running so get yourselves over there and get ready to party! :) http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16438

08-18-2010, 10:07 PM
Cool. I just participated in a swap somewhere else where several people are sending me stamped images... I think I'll cut some out and glue em down! I'll be out of town Sunday but maybe Fri and Sat I'll have a moment... I really want to play!

08-18-2010, 11:38 PM
Oh good MorahLaura! I hope you find a bit of time to play!

08-18-2010, 11:48 PM
i will try to make it! i have some some to finish up and get out but it can be done collage style. i need one last THON before the semester starts

08-19-2010, 07:03 AM

zoo and winged things sound cool..we don't do halloween..so I'll pass on that one..:D..lol

08-19-2010, 09:25 AM
Themes are totally optional! Do one or none. It's all good!

I may do Saturdays theme the whole weekend 'cuz it's my favorite, I also frequently do birds and butterflies anyway, so it's not a stretch. For weekend a-thons, I like to do fun and easy for me art. It's supposed to be relaxing, don't ya know! :)

08-19-2010, 06:11 PM
I don't know if I'll get ATCs done, but I'm working on a "junque journal" which is primarily collaging as much as possible from my vast collection of paper/ephemera into one composition book (I just saw a video on youtube showing how one person creates hers and I'm entirely inspired).

08-19-2010, 08:20 PM
calluna, that sounds cool! You could always post pictures as you go so we can see what you're doing. :)

Hi! Any chance that you could find that youtube vid again and post the link for all of us to see???

08-20-2010, 06:59 PM
That would be cool to see the video.

Since the official thread is open and going strong, I'm closing this thread.
