Happy Bookers Page Trades List

NOTE: This is a list thread, so please post listings only.

This thread will let everyone have the fun of creating a circle journal without the timetable of mailings that cj groups follow. If you are already in a circle journal group, you can get extra pages for your journals easily, as well, by signing on to accept pages from traders not part of your circle group. If you are not in a cj group, consider joining one to fill your journal faster!

How’s the swap work?
It works as a clearinghouse - rather like an online dating service! You create your ‘ad’ listing your journal and what you want. Others read your ad and contact you to arrange a trade. The two of you work out the details any way you wish and you’re in business!

Here’s what you do:
1. Prepare your ‘ad’ for the swap thread.
2. Consider what you want or don’t want in your journal.
- Are there any art techniques you want to encourage - or exclude?
- Are you open to art that is openly religious, edgy, suggestive, political, or irreverent?
3. Note pertinent info: theme, size of page, number of pages per artist, your country (so swappers can check postage costs).
4. Decide whether you are willing to accept an international trade or want to keep the mailings within your own country only.
5. Then, just post your ‘ad’ here as an invitation to other artists to trade pages with you!

Then what?
Everyone is free to browse the ad listings. When you find one that interests you, send a private message to the person and arrange the trade details between the two of you, just as you would for any 1-1 trade. That’s all there is to it!

Not sure how to word your listing?
Here’s a sample:
“Jean: Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Theme: Rain
Details: 8x8 journal, 2-page spread per artist (1 of them to include artist info)
Accepting: All techniques, as long as original work neatly done, and INTERNATIONAL trades
Not accepting: work that is religious, political, edgy.
Comments: I love the rain...golden windows on a grey rainy day...wet streets....puddle reflections. I love to see people hurrying by with umbrellas or huddled in doorways to get out of the rain. I want my journal to be a beautiful celebration of rainy days!
What I can do in return: I love collage, watercolour and drawing. Check my gallery for samples of my work.”

So, what are you waiting for? Post your journal and invite artists to trade pages with you!

Mette - Norway

Theme 1: Moonfairy`s Dreamland: Fantasy, Nature and the 4 seasons combined
Details: 8x8 (20 x 20 cm), 2-page spread (one of them must include artist info worked into the artwork somehow). I`m looking for fairies, dragons, elfs, gnomes, mermaids/mermen, phoenix, unicorns, griffins, pegasus, brownies, tree/mushroom houses, castles and other fantasy creatures worked into a landscape with one of the four seasons. Other animals, insects, birds etc are also welcomed as long there`s at least one fantasy creature in the artwork.
I don`t want "dark" fantasy btw.

Theme 2: Tea drinking witches
Details: 6x6, single page. I love a good cup of tea, my favourites are peppermint, and yellow lipton with sugar and milk. I also love witches, young or old, with pointy hats and shoes, dresses, shawls, wands, brooms, cauldrons etc. So for this journal I want teadrinking witches in all ages and shapes, outside or indoors. Please include lot of details and sign the page with your name.

If you also could write a tiny bit about the witch you have drawn on the back, that would be great. Something like: "Mathilda loves to read a good book while drinking her favourite cup of tea, organic peppermint. She lives in a cozy cottage outside a little village, and likes to stay up all night watching the moon and stars".

Accepting: I want handpainted/handrawn art done with love and care.

Not Accepting: No religious, x-rated or political stuff. NO computer printed images of others artwork!!!!

Work I can do in return: I prefer to do handdrawn watercolors, but I can also do mixed media. I can do most topics, except from religioUs, x-rated, political stuff.
I`m willing to exchange for ATCs if you don`t have a journal of your own.

donnA- Kentucky, USA

Theme 1: dragonflies in a flower garden

Details: 8x8, 2 page spread, artist info on back of one page. I'd like the dragonlies to be the mail focus of the pages, you can add anything else you like, fairies or whatever, as long as they aren't the main focus.

Accepting: Collage or hand drawn, or a combination of mediums. Your choice.

Theme 2: asian/oriental

Details: 8x8, 2 page spread, artist info on back.

Accepting: I usually prefer a vintage look, and would most prefer collage on this one.

Not Accepting: religious, political, porn, withcraft, goth, or anything dark.

Work I can do in return: Hand drawn with penicl, or marker, some watercolor, collage, or a mix of the those.
I will not do religious, politicl, porn, goth or withcraft.

Lise Bu - UK

Theme: Hearts

Details: 8x8 - 2 page spread. I would like it if the artist info is on the front of the pages - so when I put them in my book I can still see who they are from.

Accepting: Collage, hand drawn etc - but please no digital pages

What I can do in return: Anything really - collage, hand drawn etc, please check out my gallery for my style of work.

What sort of journal do you use for a "circle journal"? Handmade or do you find a book already put together? Or do you just collect all of the pages and bind them together like a chunky?

Great question. Wondering about that myself!

You can bind pages like a chunky to create your journal.

I bought 8x8 page protectors to hold the pages and used book rings and mat board covers to make mine.

And I think there are albums with 6x6 or 8x8 page protectors that scrapbookers use that would work.

There were articles on making journals at the other site. I'll see if I can find them and if so will post in the articles subforum.
