I was tempted to join group two, but the only artist I could think of nominating, aside from Bill Hammond, was myself (not that I really consider myself an "Artist" as such. I'm an illustrator). Would that be too arrogant? It sure would be funny to see you guys attempt to draw like me! I know there's lots of great artists out there, and you folks have chosen a number of them whose artistic endeavours I would like to attempt to imitate, but I'm not really too keen on collecting such myself.

I love Mark Ryden. Too scared to try and draw like him though! I think I shall stay out of this swap. But having this as us each choosing an artist and then creating cards for each participant based on that artist would be pretty neat - like a reverse PAT (CATs, as discussed on IllATC).

Wanna see something REALLY freaky? http://www.patriciapiccinini.net/

That's why I didn't go with him. I knew he'd be upsetting to some of you. His work is very creepy. But he's a very talented artist and so incredibly skilled. The naked girl pics really throw me off though. I find them disturbing on many levels but I like what he does overall. He's very provactive in a weird way.

Sas and Ang....wow...great choice of artists!

pumpkincoach
03-04-2008, 04:17 PM
I like the Mark Rydens...some are disturbing, but overall they are interesting. Kind of like surrealism meets 1940's/50's cutesy greeting card art. BOY! Does that guy has some Abe Lincoln and meat issues??? The girl eaten by tree one cracked me up! Also, Leonardo di Caprio was pretty funny! I could do without the occult symoblisms, but it was still interesting to see them! I am seeing so many new artists by doing this swap.

The Mark Ryden's didn't bother me much, I really like the softness of a lot of his work (dysfunction and meat aside, of course) it was the last one she linked to, the 'patriciap' person. I guess it's a chick? IMHO, she has issues.

THIS is just too much for me: http://www.patriciapiccinini.net/drawings/lowres/18Phillip.jpg Looks like a way to give mommies (and their toddlers) nightmares! http://www.patriciapiccinini.net/drawings/lowres/14Laura.jpg No thanks!

i'm sorry i took so long guys to give you my artist. for group 2, i'd love jackson pollock, hope it doesn't disappoint anyone but i love the energy of his work. i really like the more figurative of his work such as "male and female", "moon-woman" or "stenographic figure". Basically guys, just have fun with it. i think i'm going to try a couple myself. here's a link to some of his art http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/pollock/.

Wow! You are all so faaaassstt! I have begun. Bijaydi that artist is REAL pain in the rear to copy! But, I am persevering and making myself do it so I can learn. Plus, his work is beautiful ( I hope it is a he!). I am using a grid and it is going slow. I am actually going to do it on 2 ATC's that you can display together, one on top of the other, as I just couldn't get a good grid working on just one. I started on one grid and had to scrap it half way up as I began to run out of card. I will probably not hinge them, unless YOU want me to. That way you can put them in protector sheets top to bottom.

Seriously ladies~ All the cards I have seen so far are just gorgeous! Great work!

WOW MANUZ all three of the artist cards in your gallery are fantastic! I love it. I made a couple copies of some of the different artist paintings to take on my trip this week ... but I don't know how much I'll get to do. Leaving in the morning and will be home on the 16th. See ya all then.

Hiya all, I'm home. The rain chased us home a couple days early which is all fine and well since I'm now feeling under-the-weather. Don't know if it's just a cold or the flu everyone seems to be getting. ohh well I guess it had to catch up with me sometime. I'm usually able to stay well or just get a minor version of what is going around. My husband usually has worse symptoms and for twice as long as mine so I cannot complain.

Ok Manuz here is my version of Mark Ryden's color study TS15 2861

And the one that gave me the most trouble was the Zidani for rocketwoman. I tried a couple but ended up doing two versions of "The Gentle Stream" 2862 The first one is an attempt at oil pastels and I made another to try to fit more of the art into the 2 /12" x 3 1/2" size. WOW amazing cards around here, inkleaves i love my card. I am impressed.
I am starting on my cards next week. Its my only art i have to do. I was feeling kinda overwhelmed with this swap and then i found the words that released me .
"Inspired by" i was going for an exact replica, now i know i can do an inspired by card, which seems to release the pressure for me, at least a small bit.
ANg

inkleaves
04-05-2008, 12:13 PM
Glad that you like it ANg :)

For me "inspired by" would actually be more difficult. It requires more sketching and designing and TIME. I'd wanted to do a couple of cards "after" the style of the artist, but I'm running out of time cos I try as far as possible to post my cards 3 weeks from the deadline to make sure there's a good buffer.
Nearly bit my fingernails off for the last swap I sent cards for cos they were almost late, though I gave about 2 weeks.

altermyworld
04-05-2008, 12:30 PM
Isn't that a different take on this process inkleaves. i would much rather do my stuff, inspired by, then replicating an artist. Well for one my muse does not like me doing anything but my work .

Ha! I missed a page in this swap and as I was going thru this morning I saw that Sorren was picked in the First group... Katie V and I must have been on the same wave length I'm just glad its not for the same group! I love your Sorren KatieV! That's probably the one I love the best out of all his stuff!
I have up to this moment done 4 versions of the klimt judith... I think I may be becoming OCD:err: but there is something about it that throws me off everytime... Klimt has a way with expression that is so hard to replicate or even come within stones throw of. one time I get the eyes then the mouth is screwy... I'm determined... I'm trying it once more today!! then I give up... I threw one out and my husband dug it out of the trash so It cant be that bad... but I cant help myself... I just want it to be a little bit closer to the original. We should do this swap again this is the best workout I've had in a long time!!

Thanks pumpkincoach... My husband was impressed with Klimts work after he saw what I was working on, He's one of those artists that just takes a moment and makes it provocative, and slightly creepy... I was really happy to do this one!

Ha! Funny son! I love them though! I know he's a hard artist to do. We had an art history swap over at illustratedATCs and he was one of the artists that was covered so I had to do 4 of his pieces. Took me a long time!

Oh I forgot to say I posted the cards last Friday, which would be your last Thursday. I think they're travelling over 15,000 km, but three weeks ought to be enough buffer!

I haven't seen a bad piece of work yet here! I think everybody's work is outstanding! Amerasu I agree that Hiroshige is difficult to emulate... The Japanese have a very different style of art. But it was fun trying!
