View Full Version : Cards for my Granddaughter Having Surgery?

09-26-2010, 05:41 PM
My little granddaughter, Claire (http://www.babyclaire07.blogspot.com/), was born with a hole in her diaphragm and underdeveloped lungs because of that. She had surgery at five days, and has done really well. Now she is a happy, active three and a half year old, and she has reherniated. This time the surgery is more serious, several hours, chest tube, etc. because they have to use an artificial patch.
I'm asking if some of you would be willing to make her a card, that I could give to her at the hospital. I know she would love them. She likes all the typical three year old things--Dora the Explorer, YoGabbaGabba, Sesame Street, etc. About any cartoon or child show character, or an animal (she loves dogs and kitties), or anything with bright colors.
I would ask that you not put anything on there like lace or buttons that she could pull off. Just paper collages, paint or drawings.
If you would, I'll be happy to make you something in return, if you want. PM me for the address. Thanks, Kathy

Added Edit: Her surgery is Oct 7th, but I can give you the address to her home, and you can mail them there. We will all be back and forth to the hospital to take them.

10-02-2010, 05:38 PM

Claire is a darling little girl. Thanks for the web-site. Nice family pictures.

10-07-2010, 03:38 PM
Claire is in surgery. The doctor says it could take up to six hours. I'll keep you posted.

10-07-2010, 04:22 PM
Prayers are with you BamaKathy and with Claire and family!

10-07-2010, 07:50 PM
It's been four and a half hours and she is still in surgery but they assure us she is doing fine, and so far they have been able to do the surgery laproscopically, which is very good.

10-08-2010, 08:52 AM
The surgery wasn't over until very late last night. She had a very uncomfortable night but seems some better this morning. Still is wheezy and they are doing a chest xray, as they had to deflate one lung during the surgery to operate. The cards were coming in, but she hasn't been alert enough to open yet. I know she will love them. Thanks for all your prayers.

Kathy,my thoughts and prayers are with Claire.

Please pm me her address, and do tell me her favorite colour:)

I will send out a card as soon as possible for your little angel!

10-08-2010, 03:22 PM
Oh that little angel - I'm glad to hear she's doing a little better - probably good that she's still a little sedated - I know how 3 yrs old are. This way her body has some time to start healing before she's bopping around. Thanks for updating us - hope everything comes out good with the xray. (I was a nurse for years before I stopped working.) Sometimes it takes a bit to get things back to normal after anesthesia - especially with a lengthy surgery. I'll be checking back in for updates.

Hugs to the entire family!
Hugs to

Claire is running fever today, so it looks like she may not get the chest tube out today as planned. She did sleep last night after they put her on the morphine pump. First good rest she's gotten. She may get to go home Monday??? She has gotten so many cards and she looked at them yesterday and smiled! She'll want to go back through them when she feels a little better. Thanks to all of you.

10-09-2010, 01:42 PM
Glad Claire got a good nights rest once they got her on some medication that probably kept her more comfortable - how about you and Mommy - bet you haven't been getting much rest either - thanks for the update - hope her fever resolves quickly. Take care - all of you.

10-11-2010, 02:30 PM
Had a turn for the worse yesterday, got dehydrated on the IV! Doctor is running tests. Still not feeling like sitting up at all. Definitely not going home today or tomorrow.

10-11-2010, 03:04 PM
I'm a bit late, but just saw this post. I, too, would love to do a Sesame ATC for Claire, could you PM me her mailing address please? Nothing in return, please, just know that little Claire is in my thoughts. Best wishes:)

10-13-2010, 01:35 PM
Claire is so much better and is being released to go home today. Thanks for all your prayers and I know Claire appreciates the cards and gifts.

10-13-2010, 05:26 PM
So happy to hear Claire is on her way home! :jiggy:

10-13-2010, 11:37 PM
So happy to hear things are going so well - I know all of you will get a better night sleep now that she is home.

10-14-2010, 12:34 PM
Forgot to post I mailed a card to Claire on Monday!

Hope it gets there soon.

10-18-2010, 09:14 PM
Thank you so much to all of you for sending them to her. She is still having some complications from the surgery (was in the ER last night) but is much better than she was. She made some ATC's today from her markers and stickers. If you sent her a card (my daughter is working on a list for me so I can leave feedback) and you would like one of Claire's cards, please PM me and give me your address and I'll send one out. She would love to give one back to you for your kindness. Kathy

What a sweetie!

I just want to snatch her up and add her to my collection of blond granddaughters!

I would absolutely love to recieve an ATC from Claire! (Even though this is supposed to be a RAK.) CHildrens ATCs are always treasured here.

10-19-2010, 11:05 AM
I'm sorry. I left ITrader ratings for everyone that sent cards, but then I got an email saying I can't do that, and that they had been removed. So, I'll just have to say we are so grateful, and you are all wonderful.

10-19-2010, 03:05 PM
So happy she is home and what lovely pictures of the beautiful little girl.

10-19-2010, 03:55 PM
She is looking so well, I am thrilled to hear this news. I would love to have one of her cards when she feels up to it.

10-19-2010, 06:31 PM
Great news that she is doing well, she sure is cute!

10-20-2010, 06:46 PM
Oh Kathy - you know that none of care about the Itrader points. We only made the cards with the hopes of cheering up your little angel during her recovery - the smile on her face in those photos looks like it may have worked.

10-20-2010, 07:33 PM
Anyone that would like a card of Claire's that has not already sent me their address, please PM me, and I will get one out to you.
