View Full Version : After Christmas a-thon?

sniisk
12-12-2010, 10:58 AM
I have gotten so many news lately and thought that I will need something nice to do after Christmas. I'm not going to tell a lot about my situation yet but I'll tell you later.

Would anyone be interested in some kind of a-thon, for example an ATART after Christmas? For example starting on December 27th? I could host it or if anyone else wants to do it, it sure be nice too :).

I don't think I will be doing anything, but regardless I would love some a-thon company!

There must be some of us out there who aren't participating in The Holidays and in need of some a-thonning; I imagine most web forums will be fairly dead that week.

Sanna, yes, I think you have a good idea .... I am not beable to do many or each day,
but some is better then none... just a slower pace would work for me...

and PLEASE... do be our hostess...

Not sure I'll be able to do anything; my kids have doctor's appointments and we have family coming that weekend and the following week.

Wonderful idea, though!

I'll be out of town from the 27th to the 30th but if I can do a card or two when I get home I will. If not, I hope that if you do it, it goes well :) I'll be all alone once I get back so I'll have plenty of time for card making! :) Btw, what's ATART?

I have finals the days before Christmas AND the week right after NY so my "christmas holiday" is one spend with my nose in the books I am afraid.. BUT, we all need some pause and relaxation in between studying so I am sure I could schedule in some ATART time!! :)

So many players coming :).

I have everything almost OK but not everyone here in my family. And the next year gives some changes too. I'm so stressed now. I should have holidays between Christmas and New Year.

Co-hosting is very welcome, Robin!

I think I can tell my story here now because the situation is a bit easier.

My mom, who is seriously ill, had another illness last thursday. Her six-week very bad pains were diagnosed and they found a tumour around her spine. Because she has the earlier disease, it was very dangerous to use anaesthesia but there was no choises. The operation was yesterday and she woke up today. This day has been full of tears but only the happy ones :). She won't be at home soon and will spend her Christmas in the hospital but at least she is still alive and has no pains now.

OK, we'll play in December, starting on the 27th.

I'm not sure how much if any art I'll be able to make and trade, but I'm busy moving into my art/sewing room, so I have stuff I know I won't use that I'll put up if anyone wants it. Can't remember what that sort of athon was called! ;)

I really need to have a dedicated day or two for ATCs so I'll try to play too, ESPECIALLY if anyone wants to be making and swapping altered playing cards. I'm trying to get a complete deck and it would be fun to meet up with other APCers.
How long does this -athon go -- to Jan. 1? Or are we -athoning right up to 2012?
Thank you, Sanna, and best wishes for your challenges.

I haven't tried APCs - are there any rules on what can and can't be done to the card?

jensaz
12-21-2010, 11:18 PM
I'm assuming an APC is Altered Playing Card??? Sorry if I sound stupid... Other than altering it like an ATC, what is different?

Nancy
12-21-2010, 11:22 PM
I am new at APCs and totally hooked. To my knowledge the only rule is , they have to be
constructed on an actual playing card with a number and suite visible...Trying to collect all the cards in a suite is a real challenge. I will join this group late Sunday when my last guest closes the door behind him or her. So Donnacr grab some cards...I know several people who are anxious for APC trades including me!

12-22-2010, 12:03 AM

Sanna let me know if I can do anything to help you!!!!

theweavershand
12-22-2010, 01:29 AM
an APC or altered playing card is just that...an actual playing card...the same standard size as an ATC that you alter in some way. you can use any of the same media that you would use on an ATC...the only hard and fast rule is that the number and suit must be visible in at least one corner. some people collect misc cards to complete a deck, others collect decks in themes. i am collecting a deck of bird themed cards, for example.

if you intend to paint or glue onto a playing card you may want to sand the surface just a bit to give the shiny surface a little tooth for the paint or glue to stick to. if you like using beeswax as a medium, the shiny surface is actually perfect for it.

it would be awesome to have more people making and collecting APCs! they are very addicting!

im currently hosting an APC swap and so is NancyL. check out the threads and see some of the fantastic work that is being done.

Donnacr
12-22-2010, 03:56 AM
Please don't finish on the 28th - I will only just have started and I will be finished!!:no:
I would vote for the 30th - but I always seem to need at least a day to get into the full swing of an a-thon. Just ask my children - I have always been a bit slow.:daydreaming:

I'd want to go until December 30th too. I can be slow to get going, and a shorter time period feels too pressured for me. I'd like to use this time to get myself back into making art every day. Right now I am having trouble focusing. Art-a-phobia. Too many choices of things to do - afraid I can't do anything well enough. Need some good uninterrupted studio time to cure it :)

I like the challenges! A New Year's Day card would be a wonderful way to start the year--either devoting one card to something/someone you want to leave behind you (and then maybe destroying it, or at least quickly trading it and getting it away from you!), or a card devoted to whatever you want to focus your energies on in the new year (and keep that one for yourself, putting it where you will see it frequently!)
Going along with the "out with the old" sentiment of the end of the year, I'd like a challenge of completing at least one ATC that's been sitting unfinished for far too long. Get it done before 2011! (:
