Lora - even if nobody else is bothered (although I hope they are) - there is nothing to stop us meeting up - I notice you in Sheffield - I'm Chesterfield J29, so we are so close - and I could do with someone else to talk to by my art - i'm driving my husband mad lol. Lise x x x

Well I would love to go to a meet that doesn't involve me travelling for the majority of the day LOL Each time I have been to London its a major travelling experience, and come to think of it Stratford upon Avon wasn't a whole lot better.
You could possibly convince AnitaM as well LOL so that would be a Chester and a Manchester added to the list!!

adifferentstory - there are members from all over the country so don't worry about distance. I am hoping we will meet all over the country, so even if you can't get to one - you will be able to get to another one held near you. Good side of this is it gives you plenty of time to get your cards made.

I'm sure we will do plenty of trading via the post too.

Would be great to have you aboard if you decide to join. Lise x x x

I'll be soming along with FF will post on here when arrangements have been made.

Do you have any idea what time & where (i.e. at the entrance etc) we are going to meet? How will we recognise each other? Also just to warn you I probably won't have much to trade as I have been in India for the last 4 months and have only just got back (29.02.2008) so haven't had time to get back into crafting - my heads still in India!!!!:twitcy:

If there was a meet up in the north, say near Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, I could fly in for the day. I had been toying with the idea of inviting people here, (isle of man), but its a bit far for a day, might have to be a sleep over lol!

Welcome AnitaM - we have not sorted the final details out yet for Sunday - but as soon as we have I will post them in here.

Don't worry about cards to trade - I'm sure you have some very interesting stories of India that you could tell us - I bet you wish your body as well as your head were still in India - I know i would.

Look forward to seeing you on Sunday x x

Welcome Ria and Purplecat - Glad you have you both aboard.

I would love to come to Isle of Man - always wanted to - especially around TT time (nudge nudge wink wink lol)

Purplecat you are more than welcome to come and stay with us if need be - Micromummy has a big house so she would also be able to offer you a bed for the night if you came over. x x x

purplecat
03-08-2008, 11:57 AM
Lise Bu that is a very kind offer, to stay with you, I may take you up on that. They have just opened a new flight route from the Island to east midlands and you can get tickets for £39.
As for TT- lol- we are away! we are going to see my sister in the US!

Sept time would be good as my eldest will have gone to Uni, so that frees up a room. I have a big house with plenty of room for crafting, but only 4 bedrooms.
A sleep over may involve camp beds but thats all part of the fun isn't it?

As well as live trading swaps I am hoping that as a group we will postal swap each other - so those that can't make the meetings can still join in the fun.

I have been talking to Dana about starting up an official group for all us UK members so that we have a home within a home to speak - but until then - I am happy to keep this thread open for us all to 'chinwag'.

I will let you all know as soon as it is set up - I am so pleased that everyone has been so proactive in replying to my pm's and in this thread.

I love international swaps but sometimes the postage just gets too much for me to keep paying. I am not currently in any open swaps due to them all being international.

Hugs to you all x x x Lise x x x

Hello everyone,

Thought it was time I said "Hello" as Lise winkled me out of my shell to let me know there was a UK thread on the go.

I have been a bit shellshocked by everything that went on before this site was set up, and therefore even more low profile than usual. Also, a bit tied up with family stuff and not very productive, except for some spindle spinning and art dolls I have been dabbling with.

I am going to try to make the NEC on Sunday, but might have to go on Thursday instead, due to family commitments at the weekend. I will keep an eye on the thread to see when/where it is all happening and let you know if I can make it. Probably won't have much to trade unless I can get some stuff done this week. It would be nice to meet everyone anyway...Fantasy Firebird and I already met at a live trade in Birmingham when we were on the other site.

I will be up for the postal trades even if I am not very good at making the live swaps..so thanks, Lise, for thinking of me.

I know comparisons are odious but here is another site which has sub-groups within its worldwide membrship: http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?f=24 It's still one big global community, but it recognises that, say, Kiwi stitchers, want to share info that is of no interest to a Canadian stitcher.

Maybe when Dana has time, a regional communities section of our ever growing forum would help?

Anyway I've drunk too much tonight and sorting my many typos is taking too long. Night all

AnitaM
03-09-2008, 09:23 AM
How about 1 - 1.30 at the entrance of the hall - that way everyone has had time to look around and we can then all have alook at what everyone has bought and by that time I'm sure we will all need to sit down and have some food and rest before doing somemore shopping.

What do you think?

03-09-2008, 09:44 AM
That sort of time sounds good..

Which exhibiton though? There is the Hobbycrafts one and the Sewing for Pleasure one..my ticket covers both and I think they are in different halls, so there's a need to make sure everyone is waiting in the same place :-)

Loralou
03-09-2008, 09:48 AM
That time is perfect for me too. lets meet at the hobbycrafts one, agree we should exchange mobile numbers....if I can find out what mine is!

fantasy firebird
03-09-2008, 10:36 AM
I had mooted the idea of Scotland for a weeks holiday so you never know, plus the fact that considering I sit on a train for nigh on 5 hrs each way to London, whats the difference going up!!

On the inside of the ticket barriers of the exhibition hall entrance , or on the outside of the hall.

Stargroves
03-09-2008, 04:47 PM
On the outside of the barriers, in the Atrium, might be best, there's room to mill around.:D

I'd like to suggest we might in one of the food areas so we could all sit down with our picincs and/or a cuppa, but there are too many different areas and chances are we would all be waiting in different areas :jiggy:. So just outside sounds good to me. If I'm REALLY organised (unlikely!) I might do some ATC sized ATCSFORALL.com flyers to leave lying around the refreshment areas and maybe even one to wear on me... what do you all think?

CJ = circle journal, check out this link : here (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1024)

6 people take part, so the cj lasts 6 months, each month you make a page or 2 for your partner, each month your partner changes so by thre end of the six months you've made a page for everyone in the group and received a page from everyone in the group. The subject of teh cj's can be of your own personal choice or we can decide on a communal them, it realy depends how the group wants to do it.

I'm just looking for names and Ideas just now and then we can take it from there.

Hope this helps
Lou

PS the best way to find out about it, is to join in, and its lots of fun but there is a commitment to complete 1 or 2 pages per month

I would be interested in a cj group, but I am in the last stages of my first cj group(finishes May), and I think when it is your first group you are only allowed to be in one group at a time? This was the rules before anyways. A UK cj group would certainly be cheaper!

I've been in 5 circle journal groups, they are fantastic fun, you can decide at the start of the group whether you want to do 6 inch or 8 inch square pages, for example (more space to play with), it's usually 2 page spreads for collage, hand drawn etc. and one page for fabrics/textiles.
Everyone chats to each other in the thread, posts their WIP/finished pages, leaves comments. Great fun.

Hello, this is Shirley the redplantlady in Lincolnshire. Am I too late to jump on board? Am v interested in UK postal swaps, and cj (haven't done it before but love the idea ) - also maybe meeting up (but I am on the edge here - nearly in the North Sea!); I do get to the NEC occasionally (quilting one this August...)

Hi Shirley - no hun you aren't to late to jump on in. Some of us are meeting at NEC on Sunday if you are interested in coming. Other than that we have not started postal swaps or cj's yet - things will be getting moving after we have been on Sunday.

If you are interested in coming on Sunday pm me or one of the other ladies - loralou, Anita, Fantasy Firebird (to name just a few) and we can get details to you.

Thanks for kind welcome. It's great to see how active everyone is.

I have just read up about the CJ group. It sounds fun and we have the advantage of local postage, which means less post office queues! So please count me in when it gets off the ground. I've never done one before so be gentle wiv me.

I'm in for a CJ too! Can we have more players than usual to make it more fun and more inclusive?

fantasy firebird
03-12-2008, 02:54 PM
Don't see why not!! and while we are at it lets get some UK only swops running!! (sorry rather stressed at the postage costs and discussions!!)
One problem I have found is that when you run a specific swop as opposed to say Oriental, favourite media, etc that there has usually been very few UK participants and the majority has been international players. So if we run uk based swops we need to have a wider theme so that more will be tempted to play along, otherwise there could only be a couple of people taking part!

moggy
03-12-2008, 03:02 PM
Colour based swaps are always good for that - then everyone can play :jiggy:

Loralou

I feel a bit weird about UK only swaps.. I mean international hosts have been paying our postage for ages now and excluding them from my swaps wouldn't feel right :(

03-12-2008, 03:47 PM
I just read your post over there, you have swayed me! They seem to be complaining about having internationals in their swaps! I change my mind, let's have UK only swaps as well BUT allow internationals and LIMIT them lol

Lise Bu
03-12-2008, 05:04 PM
I have just been reading the thread on postage costs - omg.

I am so looking forward to hosting my first swap but I will have to limit international players - I have just been looking at Craftygirls swap - out of 12 players there are 2 uk players. Both myself and Micromummy tried to join but were too late - 12 hours after the swap opened. There is no way I could afford to send 10 packets to USA/Canada.

FF - I don't know how you did it hun - paying that much postage. My hubby would kill me and to be quite honest I would be looking at all the craft stuff I could buy with that sort of money.

Are we able to have UK swaps only?? I think we have put the cat amongst the pigeons by asking for a UK swap group. This was never my intention and I wouldn't want anyone to feel excluded - but I actually feel a minority on this site - (but that is just my opinion and is not meant to cause offence to anyone).

Stargroves
03-12-2008, 06:07 PM
Yikes this is all tricky to think about :)!

I leapt into Craftygirl's swap because it is a UK one and I want to support UK swaps when I can (Gawd that sounds pretentious, like I'm some kind of amazing artist, not a newbie, but hopefully you get my drift ).

Don't think there is anything in the rules to stop swaps such as US only or Europe or US only swaps? The Best Technique one that was taken over was limited as I remember, but of course it was inherited from the other site...

How many UK members are on here? Other than a roll-call, is there a way of telling? To get UK swaps to work, as was said earlier they need to be all-encompassing themes like colour, seasons, flowers etc. rather than the more complex ones, or there will not be enough to trade.

To think that this all seems to have been sparked by a cent on postage - if only Royal Mail was so affordable :skeptical:

fantasy firebird
03-12-2008, 06:50 PM
anyone can post any swop with any criteria as long as they themselves qualify to run a swop. For example I reckon I should qualify on time, swops hosted, itrader etc to run any type of swop, a lot of our UK members are lower on times, ratings etc. When I joined atcards over 3 yrs ago there were only a small handful of us, to join a swop we had to go international, same with hosting!!
Regarding the CJ's it appears that the max of people in a circle is 6, over a period of 6 months. That is making 2 pages per person per month. I wonder if we can re-invent the wheel?? How many people are interested at present?? do we say how 2 running concurrent then swop partners?? I have an idea forming but would need to discuss to see if it would work!!

Loralou
03-12-2008, 07:24 PM
We could work it more like a chunky book! People in those groups make 16 pages!

Lise Bu
03-13-2008, 04:27 AM
I am about ready for my first swap - and I have plenty of i-trader points to host a PIF, and I think there are others who are about same as me. I intend to hold a swap that is very open theme wise and have unlimited uk members.

Stargroves - I have had contact with about 30 uk members. I intend pushing the site when I go to NEC on Sunday. I've made some leaflets to hand out - so I am working on trying to build the UK membership.

Kay - we may be able 'reinvent the wheel' - but we might come up against come opposition - so maybe it would be better to do it like a chunky page swap. I don't know hun - you are more of an expert than me. x x

purplecat
03-13-2008, 04:39 AM
I think chunky book pages are more fun and they are not so large to post! Great idea!

I have just about finished my swap that I am hosting, just waiting on some late entries, So I would be willing to host a swap again, If all the uk members let me know the kind of themes they like I can try and pick something that most people would want to enter, then limit my internationals, so I have more uk entries.
Any suggestions?

Stargroves
03-13-2008, 04:47 AM
Oh, 30 isn't so bad. I belong to a nice Yahoo group for UK ATCers and they have around 50 members and their swaps are always well subscribed. They have a good list owner who spends a lot of time chasing though, also she makes sure the membership is active, one must send a 3 card 1-1 swap each month, which gets rid of those who don't actually make...

I'm sure with 30 of us we can do things.

Off to the races now, early start as yesterday's races are spread between today and tomorrow:swoon:

There is a lot of sense in localised swaps for heavy postage/time schedules when playing JAM's, journal work, heavy crafting, etc - in other words those swaps which look terrific but are almost exclusive by their very nature. (Some JAM's swap every two weeks which is not easy to participate in when post can take 11-14 days)

I would not wish to upset our international friends/hosts in any way. My feeling is a yes to journals etc, where the benefits of a local service is obvious; but I would be uncomfortable going any further than that apart from individual swaps.

I agree that postage is a big issue - particularly for oldies like me on a pension. I must congratulate FantasyFirebird on a superb piece of writing on the postal issue.

Morning all I think I've caught up!! Love the idea of running the cj as a fatbook swap, gets around the limit of 6 players. On another site, up to 20 layers can sign up and when the page is complete you pm them and sent it direct. There is a time limit of 4 months for completion, so there is no control over who and when as long as all pages are received by the dewadline. Its a bit more relaxed and is helpful if you are struggling with one of the subjects and need a wee bit more time!!

Happy to see what everyone wants to do, cj or fatbook root.

On another note, just back from teh NEC Birmingham, Had a fab time and spent most my money on the stitches side - fabric/felt/banana fibres etc. Did pick up a few rubber stamps and so paints but then my purse was empty!! Have fun on Sunday.

On Mon I'll pm everyone who expressed an interest in the cj and get feedback re cj or fatbook option, and see where we go from there, look forward to finding out about your inclining of an idea firebird!!

Have a fab day

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

But I can't see me having more than a few cards to trade :-(

Everything's gone pear-shaped today. There was a weird smell in the kitchen so DH and I poked around and discovered the washing maching had been leaking under the cupboards. We have had to take out all the stuff, and remove the plinths and the kitchen is in chaos.

Then he tried to fix the leak and put a load of washing on to test it. But it wasn't fixed so it leaked again and now the bath is full with a whole load of wet washing with soap all over it. We have cleaned up the kitchen as best we can. The washing will have to stay in the bath unti tomorrow..we rinsed the soap off.

DH had another go at mending the machine so we'll try again to wash it in the morning. If it leaks again we are off to get a new one as ours is 20years old ( I think they should last a lifetime, though)

So my atc stuff is all over the dining room table where I had started to make cards until the chaos started. I'll try to make a few tomorrow, but there will be the washing/washingmachine/cupboard/contents to sort out as well.

Why do these things always happen at the most inconvenient times. My hubby was really good though, and didn't get ratty although he must have felt really fed up when it leaked again and he had to get all the wet washing out.

Looking forward to getting away from it all on Sunday for a few hours.

Hi I'm still planning to be there tomorrow at the NEC, but I won't have much, if anything to trade, sorry:sad:. I don't have as good an excuse as poor mwquilter and her washing machine, but I don't have much in the way of made cards. I hoped to make some today but I feel absolutely exhausted after being at Cheltenham Festival all week, except Weds which was cancelled.

The cancellation meant 10 races on Thu and 9 on Friday with an early start and much eating of picnics in a hurry instead of a leisurely peruse through the many bottles:sleep:. So I've achieved very little today and nothing creative!

Looking forward to saying hello anyway, even if I'm empty handed:yes:

I bought an earing making kit and am about to get started! Also some ATC blanks, some semi-precious stone beads, and some of that metallic card stuff you rub stencils over to make patterns which I just wanted to have a go at.
Another meet? Is it posted in the love trade forum? I can't find it.

OOh a meet in Liverpool! I may be able to make that one, I will have to check if I can get a flight in and out. Is anyone able to pick me up from the airport? then I may be able to come!

hey Lise I thought you were signing off!! I do hope you aren't interupting Micromums creativity!! after all we need to discuss some serious trading for the future here!! That being MM and FF trading, after all we didn't get to trade many because everyone else was so needy!!

hey FF - me interupting MicroMummy creations - now she has found you to trade with she has got steam coming off her scissors lol. I think I might trade with myself when we go to Liverpool because I wont get a look in when you and MM get together lol. Purple Cat we will have to trade hun. Not get a chance to talk to FF and MM as they drool over each others cards lol. Bagsy NOT sitting in between you two at Aintree - not fair Marina is on hols for Liverpool meet - must be Anita's turn to deal with them two lol.

I am sad I won't be at Liverpool :-(
But holidays are nice too :-)
Hope all you peeps will have a good time. Whoever sits between FF and MM should maybe consider wearing protective clothing to protect them from the drool...but I understand why they're drooling 'cos they both do lovely cards.

 I'm afraid I won't be able to make Liverpool. However I will be going to Portsunlight (Ellsmere Port) which I think is sometime in May - will check and let you know, The only thing with Port sunny is that you need a pre-booked ticket ($2.00 sorry pound sign not working). I can order them for you cause they send me the booking form.

Welllll! what can I say? I've been reading all the reports abour FF and me at Birmingham. It's fair to say we did drool (a bit) over each other's work but that's understandable as there were some lovely cards, as there was from other people too. I really enjoyed the day and look forward to meeting again at Liverpool. Get ready to play FF! And everyone else, mind where you sit and what you wear! Could get messy!
At the moment my house looks like a bomb has hit it as LiseBu is moving and is bringing all the small and not so small things to mine. Happy Easter folks,

Quick CJ update, more folks expressed an interested than there are places, so the places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, and if there is enough interest FF will set up another UK based cj in May.

Can those interested please pm me with details of what topic they would like.
Once I have names I will start a cj thread in the cj forum and take it from there.

You must have a trader rating of 15+ to take part, so if you need a hand to get your rating up I'm sure most folks would be happy to do 1-1 trades to help out.

I look forward to hearing form all interested parties very soon.

Nope, sorry Poashcot, I didn't visit her stall, although I did go to the gingerbread house ( I had previously made some rooftiles for it and wanted to see it assembled)

But I wonder if anyone has a show brochure with one of those layout thingies in it...if so you might be able to work out who it was from the stall layout plan.

Hope you track it down.

Just thought..I am on the Ravelry knitting site, so if you can't find out who it was through someone here, remind me and I will see if anyone on Ravelry can tell me who it was.

I know it is short notice, and you may not be anywhere near Douglas where we are staying, so don't worry if it is not convenient. I should be free to do my own thing during the day on 17 and 18 April, which is Thursday and Friday.
