View Full Version : Draw-a-thon March 4 to 6 ????

02-04-2011, 01:38 PM
Itīs been a while since the last Draw-a-Thon and I would love another. I would be willing to host it. Is there any interest for this a-thon on March 4 to March 6, 2011?

Sounds fine to me. I'm about to start a drawing class next week, so I would enjoy a Draw-a-Thon!

It would be nice but my markers are then too far away from me :(. I can't take everything with me when I'm going back to Latvia soon.
I have only my collage stuff there but at least I can make something.

I'm keen - I'm back from holiday then.

Can you explain what is expected in an "a thon?" I don't want to commit unless I can follow through.

02-05-2011, 09:13 AM
An "A-Thon" is like making art together with other artists in a virtual craft room. We can talk, share techniques, encourage each other and of course make art and trade it, if we want. A Draw-a-thon is all about drawing :) You donīt have to sign-up officially. If thereīs enough interest, Iīll start a thread shortly before the draw-a-thon begins and you can join the party, chat and share your art whenever you like.

And even if you don't create anything, you can hang around here, as I will do :D.

Cool idea, I would do it.

02-05-2011, 04:33 PM
Other than Zens I haven't "drawn" anything in years and years. I suppose it doesn't hurt to try. ;)

02-06-2011, 08:15 AM
I love the idea!

02-06-2011, 09:37 AM
Thank you so much for the info! I think I will follow along.

02-06-2011, 09:41 AM
I can't draw, but I will enjoy seeing what everyone is creating. I will be following the posts and I'm sure loving the art.

02-06-2011, 09:54 AM
That sounds fun, I would join XD

thumbs up from me!

02-06-2011, 09:18 PM
I desperately need to practice so I will probably try to do one or two at least :p Could we have some challenges? I suck at thinking of things on my own lol.

02-07-2011, 05:08 AM
Challenges are great! Iīll see what I can come up with. If someone has any ideas, please post to the thread!

Question: If there is the potential to "trade" the drawings, then what would be the right type of paper (weight? brand? etc) to use for the drawings that is suitable for ATCs? Suggestions, recommendations?

02-07-2011, 07:33 AM
For the atcs made during this a-thon apply the same rules as for others. I usually use bristol board or cardstock, which is 300g/mē. Hmm, donīt know how much lbs this is in american measurements.
But you can also use regular (thinner) drawing paper and mount it to a piece of cardstock.
I donīt know which brands are available for you. Maybe some Americans can help :D

I should be able to play a little during the March 4-6 weekend.

I usually use 100 lb Strathmore Bristol board or 140 lb Strathmore watercolor paper for wet work (markers and/or water soluble pencils) and 80 lb Strathmore drawing paper for pencil or ink (I mount to cardstock or heavy scrapbook stock after the drawing is done). Bristol tends to be very smooth, so better for markers.

I always use Bristol Velum...It's made by many companies.

02-09-2011, 03:06 AM
Oh this draw-a-thon sounds great! Count me in.

02-09-2011, 04:41 AM
I'll have to check it out. Seems like I don't have enough hours in the day lately to do everything I would like to do. I will be lurking.

02-09-2011, 06:05 AM
yes I would love to do this, hopefully I will be around. thanks for offering to host this ev.

02-09-2011, 11:34 AM
I think this sounds like fun. I'd like to draw with the crowd ;)

02-11-2011, 03:34 PM
I would participate!

02-11-2011, 03:37 PM
I will just be back from a business trip, so should have one day at least to play. Maybe I'll draw on the plane and color/paint 'em when I get home ... hmmmmmmm

02-13-2011, 04:44 AM
This would be a dream come true! Yes, yes, yes. Did I mention I'm interested? :jiggy:

02-15-2011, 12:17 PM
I've been working on my drawing a bit... I may join in too. :)

02-16-2011, 12:11 AM
Count me in, I'm an a-thoniac. So much fun!

02-16-2011, 10:19 PM
This sounds fun. Do we get a reminder shortly beforehand? I LOVE reminders.

02-17-2011, 04:18 AM
Iīll open the official thread on March 2, I think. But I can PM some reminders, too:)

02-17-2011, 04:30 PM
Evalila, have you put it in the Calendar? If you do, folks can ask for a reminder up to 3 days ahead. That will make it easier for you. :)

02-18-2011, 04:42 AM
Yep, I put it in the calendar:)

02-19-2011, 04:51 AM
I put it on my notepad so I won't forget. Going to probably use the a-thon to get inspired for all of the hand-drawn swaps I'll be working on. And maybe a few that I can put for trade as well. Looking forward to it!

02-22-2011, 05:43 PM
sound super exciting! havent really drawn in years, my hubby is always trying to get me to share...this looks like the perfect challenge!

02-23-2011, 10:32 PM
i am looking forward to it!

the "draw a thon" is a little different from others I've participated in.
Got a question>>can we do the background and watercolor wash etc, before we draw the main element in atc? starting a drawing from scratch sometimes takes me a long time. ; ) ( I'm slow; )

02-24-2011, 12:16 PM
this sounds kewl...now to make room by the laptop to draw....thats usually the kitchen table :P

There must be at least one handdrawn element, but you can always mix and match techniques.:D

OK I keep flaking out on the a-thons. Partly cause my husband has been home on weekends. But he will be home most of this week. I have already gatheres several of my sketching supplies, images and books. I am reayy planning on working on stuff this weeken for the Draw-a-thon!

Just Ducky
02-28-2011, 11:06 PM
drawn ??? ohhhhh.... about the only thing I can draw with any kind of luck is my
Tree Spirits and a yellow ducky once in awhile...

but I see Linda4atc is getting ready... sure hope so cause she does great "Duckies" (hint hint)

03-02-2011, 12:27 PM
LOL I will look for duckies. But I was thinking of working from my art lesson books on drawing people, or maybe trying to do some of my own Gnomeo creations.

I also have a bunch of pictures of a cartoon couple doing all sorts of things. I got from my clipart program. They remind me of the adorable Magda drawings that TherapyArtist used to do. I have wanted to do some of them for a longtime. I think I'll name them the Soulmates. I may also do some Red Hat Lady stuff, I have always adored red hats and now I really am a Red Hatter.
