Abstract Torn Paper Only-Due Friday April 8th
Number of cards 3/3
Media- paper only
Number of players unlimited BUT sign up by March 26

This swap is similar to my first Torn Paper Only Swap except that all your cards will be abstract. Examples can be found in that swap : #70, asharnaenae, #104 RaineyDay, #192 WilOpioOguta, and #206 Stellaluna.

The only medium that you will use is paper---NO pens, paint, stickers, embellishments. You are still free to use any kind of paper. Adhere your paper shapes onto an *** backing and put your name, user name, location, date on the back. Do put your cards into plastic sleeves, even if you use a pocket page.

If you sign up but don't communicate or send cards, you will receive neutral iTrader.
There will be no wait list.

Mailing- if possible, use long-sized (business envelopes) for sending and for your return self-addressed (no little stickers), stamped envelope.

US players: attach at least a 44 cent stamp
International players- send an address label. I will provide envelopes and postage.

Adding you, louisezee. If you want an idea of what I'm looking for, look at the examples from torn Paper Only which is in the Active Forum.

I'd love to join, thanks!

I had some extra time to play today and the creativity bug bit me. In other words, my atc's for this swap are done;). I used wall paper for all of them. Here are there pictures - sorry for the reflection of the plastic sleeves - :

02-23-2011, 11:46 AM
Count me in also!

02-23-2011, 12:28 PM
right up my alley. i would like to play

02-23-2011, 12:41 PM
Okay, I signed you all up. If you want to check go to the top.

02-23-2011, 02:19 PM
Question, torn paper only or can we use cut paper? Just checking

02-23-2011, 02:40 PM
You can only use paper that you tear. The swap is for torn paper only.

02-23-2011, 02:46 PM
Hi Nancy, I'd like to try this - I had a little trouble with abstract in the last round (which is why I went more representative), but I want to give it another go!

02-23-2011, 02:52 PM
Okay just double checkin thanks

02-23-2011, 11:31 PM
I'd love to join - I challenged myself in your first 'Torn paper' to make cards that were realistic. Abstract is SO much more to my comfort level - thanks

CAMeo Cheryl
02-24-2011, 12:51 AM
I would love to do this again... especially given that my cards for the last round of torn paper were abstract as well! Can't wait!

02-24-2011, 11:45 AM
Sign me up :)

02-24-2011, 12:21 PM
i'll give it a try...i like to do new things...sounds like fun

02-24-2011, 01:05 PM
Okay, signing up this new crowd. Check the list to see if I got you.

02-24-2011, 10:42 PM
Adding you mmm!

02-24-2011, 10:42 PM
I enjoyed the last torn paper swap so would like to join this as well, thanks.

02-25-2011, 12:54 AM
so cool that people are doign this even without getting results yet from last torn paper swap! Adding you, Patt.

02-26-2011, 12:47 PM
Well, not too bad...but looks like you have either cut or straight edges.

Mrs Ragbrutty
02-26-2011, 02:48 PM
May I join. I have made some cards, they are still wet but I'll scan when dry.

Mrs Ragbrutty
02-26-2011, 04:18 PM
here are trials - hopefully not too big. otherwiseI'll be here forever.

02-28-2011, 02:49 AM
Everybody, remember to tear ALL your edges. Besides me being a nitpicking host, the cards really look better if ALL the edges of paper are torn.

02-28-2011, 02:57 AM
We are having family company through part of Tuesday so I cannot focus totally on this swap or my other ones. Mostly I am in a state of exhaustion. We are either going places( and the artritic legs protest) or we stay home and the kids---3 and 5---go, go ,go! No wonder only younger people have kids.

03-02-2011, 09:08 PM
Wil Opio, your cards are here!

03-03-2011, 06:29 AM
I feverishly tore and glued all evening - hope it's ok to glue and seal the cards with the same product. I used Mod Podge - my fingers are crossed, and stuck together too. haha If all's good please sign me up and send me your address - I'll post my cards tomorrow when they are done drying.
Thanks for hosting!

03-03-2011, 12:40 PM
Its better in this swap to use a good adhesive rather than a sealant. One of the joys of torn paper is being able to feel the edges and textures of the papers. I think that is lost with a sealant.
I sent you a PM but I've changed my mind. Its now up to players to decide whether they want to seal their cards.

03-03-2011, 05:00 PM
Nancy, I'd like to join if it's not too late. :swoon:

03-03-2011, 05:04 PM
Ooh abstracts, I would like to join.

03-03-2011, 06:19 PM
Hi, Nancy - This sounds like fun and I've got lots of paper scraps that I think would work well for this. Please sign me up! Thanks!

03-03-2011, 08:17 PM
Here are my cards for this swap - plus one for the gallery. I carefully tore various bits and pieces of paper, played around with them, glued them down - and then, almost by automatic habit - I trimmed all the overhanging edges with scissors instead of downsizing them by tearing (or not making them overhang in the first place) - but at least that was only one card - the other four were ok!

03-03-2011, 08:22 PM
Hello I would like to join:jiggy:

03-03-2011, 09:25 PM
Thank you for letting me join - here's my cards and I hope you like them. The pink and gold card was made from some specialty paper and gold tissue paper that tore so straight it was unbelievable. The black card with pink, turquoise and purple is all made from mulberry paper scraps from the other cards. I'll send them out tomorrow.

03-03-2011, 09:26 PM
Okay, I'm adding players. Check the list at the beginning to see if you are with us.

03-04-2011, 04:17 AM
ICraft~awesome cards I esp. like the bottom left black one :D

03-04-2011, 02:36 PM
Thanks for showing the love Threshold90.

03-04-2011, 08:43 PM
I'll look out for them.

03-05-2011, 01:42 AM
Hi Nancy! I need your address to send my cards!:twitcy:

03-05-2011, 02:54 PM
My cards are going postal! ;)

count me in-im pretty realistic,so this will be a challenge for me

03-05-2011, 08:19 PM
I'd love to join :)

03-05-2011, 09:47 PM
Big toe, just tear up some pieces of paper...see how they look together. Play around with paper for a bit. some papers are easy to tear. Origami paper is easy. Mulberry paper not.
Try making skinny pieces. Play first, then figure out what you are actually making and assembling.
I find tearing paper is very relaxing.

03-05-2011, 10:04 PM
count me in-im pretty realistic,so this will be a challenge for me

I know what you mean - I usually have a real vision of what my card is going to look like but if your doing an abstract it's a little harder. But this is what I do when I'm going to do somethig abstract.

I take my ATC background, pick out some papers that I think look good together - either coordinate or contrast and start tearing, I lay the pieces out on the background and fuss around a bit then I have an ATC template I made (it's a 5 x 7 piece of cardstock with an ATC size opening in the middle) which I lay over my "creation" to see what is goint to be cut off in the end so it gives me a wonderful idea how the card is going to look. After I get something I like I start gluing away.

03-06-2011, 12:40 PM
Hi, all -

Here are my ATCs, ready to be mailed! It was much more challenging that I thought it would be. The tearing of paper was easy to remember, but I kept wanting to add something to the ATCs that weren't torn paper! A true test of discipline on my part! I'll wait until I'm formally accepted to the swap before I mail them, but I'm ready!! Thanks - :jiggy:

03-06-2011, 12:46 PM
Plastic sleeves are the best protection and artist info on the card back can easily be read without having to remove the card. ( I do remove the sleeves once I receive a card as I like to touch/feel the front.) When you tape together cards in sleeves, the tape comes off easily.
Very important to tape cards together or put in a holder. Loose cards dance enroute and try to break through the envelope. Sometimes loose cards destroy an envelope and don't arrive.

03-06-2011, 01:39 PM
Just saw that I'm added to the list - these will go out tomorrow!! Thanks!

03-06-2011, 07:07 PM
This looks like fun. I've seen some of the art here, but I would also like to look at these from your Post#1 here:
<<Examples can be found in that swap : #70, asharnaenae, #104 RaineyDay, #192 WilOpioOguta, and #206 Stellaluna.>>
Where is that swap? I looked through completed swaps but could not find this. I'm quivering with curiosity!

03-06-2011, 07:16 PM
You want to look in the archive which is below the active swaps. that swap was called Torn Paper Only.

03-06-2011, 07:20 PM
This sounds great. I made two cards just to see if I had a feel for it before I asked to join. Think I got it. :jiggy:
So... Can I join in please???

Thank you

03-06-2011, 07:34 PM
I looked at the archive the other day (before signing up, lurking at all the swaps goin' round) and couldn't find it. I just looked now and couldn't find it, and I went all the way back to February 2010. I am not above admitting that my brain is in weekend mode, so could you give me an approximate date range when that swap occurred?

03-06-2011, 10:31 PM
thanks, Stellaluna. I am constantly amazed what can be done on this site and by the gifted that make them happen!

03-06-2011, 10:32 PM
@Stellaluna - Thank you for the link. I didn't think to look under "active" swaps, just archives. *duh* Sign me up. Since I first looked at this thread, I've been ripping paper. Guess it's a sign.

03-06-2011, 11:56 PM
I forgot that I hadn't archived it yet as my international players have yet to receive their cards. signing you up scrapPea...

03-07-2011, 12:39 AM
@NancyL - I was totally inspired tonight. My first AFA ATCs are finished! Thanks for mentioning texture. It was a reminder to me to pay attention to that. This swap ignited the heart of a scrapbooker who finally had a legit excuse to play with all the "special" paper in her stash. I dug through my scraps--even the scraps too small to be called scraps but held onto anyway--and found a delightful assortment I forgot I had! I'll post pics once my cards arrive; by then I should figure out how that works here. Please send me your address and I'll have these mailed to you this week. Thanks!

03-07-2011, 01:06 AM
studio39designs your cards are awesome - I really love the mix of papers you used.

03-07-2011, 08:30 AM
I'd like to play again! SOTO

03-07-2011, 06:41 PM
studio39designs your cards are awesome - I really love the mix of papers you used.

Thanks, ICraft! I really just used a bunch of scrap papers I had in my "stash" and created serendipity paper. That just means I pasted paper all over a large watercolor sheet until it was full - I then turned it over (so I couldn't see) and cut out the ATCs. I was really happy with the results. Thanks again!

03-07-2011, 07:04 PM
I posted before but didn't see my name on the list.
Can I join up?

03-07-2011, 09:10 PM
Of course.

03-07-2011, 09:14 PM
MicheleMM and ICraft, your cards both came. thanks for the host cards as well as the fun papers.

03-08-2011, 12:59 AM
I would like to sign up, since I have torn and glued lots of itsy bitsy pieces of paper the last couple of days. My cards are now ready to go. Thank you!

03-08-2011, 01:28 PM
wow, two more sets of lovely abstract torn paper cards! Adding you Cherie.

03-08-2011, 07:57 PM
I'd love to join Nancy!

03-09-2011, 06:02 AM
Pretty cards Cherie - I really like the rainbow one. Also some beauties from Stellaluna too - they are just beautiful I think the one with the blue is my fav.

03-11-2011, 01:44 AM
Hi Nancy! Mailed my cards several days ago. Have they arrived? Hope they get there in good shape. Oh, and I enclosed an extra for our "Hostess with the Most-est" : )

03-11-2011, 01:49 PM
Picking up mail later today.

ruthe, your cards are very cool!

03-12-2011, 07:13 PM
NancyL, did the tsunami yesterday affect you at all? Hope all is ok!

03-12-2011, 09:12 PM
the worst that happened to me was being woken by 3:15 am. My whole body protested all day! My husband heard the sirens about 2:30 am. this time I slept through. We live on 20th Avenue and the tsunami zone in our subdivision is down by 5th Avenue. No danger, just a lot of tv and computer drama.
Our side of the island sustained very liittle damage. the other side had massive flooding on their main tourist road and into some buildings.

03-14-2011, 12:23 PM
My husband mailed mine over the weekend (what a sweetie!). here's hoping they arrive safely and swiftly.

03-14-2011, 02:45 PM
Please can I sign up for this one?

03-14-2011, 04:38 PM
Cecileb, you're in. Lafaver55, your cards arrived. Studio35Designs, yours came, too. Thanks for the host card and the little papers! Katelnorth, yours are here and thanks for the host card, and a 44 cent stamp is always useful.

03-14-2011, 11:19 PM
Never tried the torn paper thing before, so hope these are ok

03-15-2011, 08:26 AM
My cards are on their way!

03-15-2011, 08:59 AM
Nancy, If you haven't received my cards by now, let me know and I will begin working on a new set for this swap. Kinda disappointed they got lost....I worked hard on those, and also had enclosed plenty of extra postage on return envelope. But...I know these things happen occasionally.

03-15-2011, 12:06 PM
Here are mine!

03-15-2011, 01:17 PM
Okay, Ivan101 is withdrawing....pupchick is adding. And I saw two wonderful sets of abstract torn paper cards....and mtpaperplayer, I sent you a PM. Its up to you if you want to send another set. You will get cards back no matter what.

03-15-2011, 05:40 PM
Gorgeous Stellaluna - I know what you mean about the technique being addictive - I ended up making more cards than I needed for the swap and then ended up using them as backgrounds for other cards.

03-16-2011, 11:41 AM
Grt card stella ;)

03-16-2011, 05:30 PM
Put mine in the mail yesterday!

03-16-2011, 10:01 PM

And hurray, hurray, after 10 days or so in the mail system, mtpaperplayer, your cards arrived! Thanks for the extra ones.

I guess I didn't sign up yet , but my cards are done and will be mailed tomorrow or Saturday.

03-18-2011, 02:18 AM
so, Leslie are you signing up?

03-18-2011, 03:23 AM
Thank you :)

03-18-2011, 09:34 AM
@ NancyL - I sent--well, my hubbie sent--the cards over the weekend along with another swap's. Those were received. Have mine arrived?

03-18-2011, 11:15 AM
If your name is still black on the sign up list, your cards haven't arrived. Mail service to Hawaii is erratic. I think it depends on what planes the mail is sent on.

03-18-2011, 06:52 PM
Ruthe, your cards arrived and thanks for the extra card!

03-19-2011, 12:05 PM
You're welcome Nancy L.

03-19-2011, 05:47 PM
mtpaperplayer, your first cards did arrive!

Today i received cards from Stellaluna---thanks so much for the extra very abstract card AND all the fun papers!
also received cards from ScrapPea..thanks for the extra card and the giant stamp from China!
And cards from Cynthia...so clever to send two swaps in one envelope and thanks for your extra cards!
And cards from Threshhold...thanks for the papers.

03-19-2011, 11:05 PM
Thanks, Nancy. I'll just hold onto them, and maybe trade the new ones individually.

03-19-2011, 11:54 PM
Here are mine; the elephant is the hostess card. This was fun. I want to do more! Hmmm...I may just do that. :)

I haven't quite figured out the whole thumbnail thing, however.

03-20-2011, 07:24 PM
Hi Nancy! May I please join?

03-20-2011, 08:36 PM
Of course!

03-20-2011, 09:47 PM
Then they will be on their way :jiggy:

03-22-2011, 05:04 PM
@JenCreates - What great cards! Not only does purple rank high among my fave colors, but the light, bright colors are so happy. They make me think spring...not that you'd know it's that time of year with a snowmergency predicted in MI tonight. *sigh*

03-22-2011, 08:33 PM
Cecileb and Kanteachart, your cards arrived. Thanks for the extras.

03-22-2011, 10:04 PM
Count me in! I have SO much paper. Paper Junkie should be my Artist Name!!!!

03-23-2011, 06:41 PM

Mine are going to the post office in just a few minutes. Thanks for another fun swap, NancyL!

03-25-2011, 09:46 AM
@Teale - Cool. I can feel the textures in your cards from here!

@mzspurslasso - What happy colors. (Is that one paper Rubik's Cube??) This makes me wish for spring even more. Michigan is such a tease: 60's last week, winter-coat-weather this week.

03-25-2011, 09:58 AM
I'd like to join your swap. Here are my ATCs:

03-25-2011, 07:25 PM
Lurkers, you only have until this Saturday to sign up---the 26th. There will be NO wait list.

Esew123, your cards arrived. Thanks for the extra. Leslie52, your cards came, and also ones from pupchick. thnks for the extras.

03-25-2011, 07:26 PM
Also a big thank you to those who send extra postage. Sometimes other players forget to send along their SASE and the extra postage kind of compensates.

03-27-2011, 10:02 PM
My cards are in my Gallery and in the mail. I found this swap really hard to make cards that I was happy with - obviously out of my comfort zone. Thanks for stretching me nancyL

03-28-2011, 01:21 PM
Yes, I've been surprised how challenging this has been for many. I often do abstract things as I also can't draw worth beans.
Some of the cards are a lot less abstract than I would have done, but I remind myself that people have different visions of abstract as well as different comfort levels for abstract.

03-28-2011, 07:52 PM
Here're mine. They'll be in the mail tomarrow. I hope they're okay. I love abstract and this turned out to be a bigger challenge than I expected.

03-28-2011, 09:21 PM
Haven't been to the post office since the 25th. We're conserving gas; its over $4 here.
Either tomorrow or Wed, we're going into town.
If you wait several days between mail pick ups, you always have something.

03-28-2011, 09:43 PM
@trini70 - Fun cards! I love earth tones, the 2nd one is so colorful and the third reminds me of the the ocean.

03-30-2011, 06:36 PM
finally picked up mail again. You get a lot when you go with 5 days inbetween!

anyway, cards arrived---from mzspurslasso (thanks for the papers as well as a host card); teale (thanks for the hsot card and extra postage), SOTO (thanks for a host card) and BarbaraF (sending you a PM.)
Not too many left to come...previous players know that I do swap out on time but if ALL the cards come in before the due date, I will swap out early.

04-03-2011, 12:24 AM
@big toe studio - What lovely cards. The colors and textures are so rich, earthy.

04-03-2011, 06:56 PM
Okay, cards from Mrs. Ragbrutty arrive...thanks for the extra card and the well concealed dollar!.....from JenCreates...thanks for the extra card and from Trini70.
just one more set to come.....and then I will swap out....unless the cards come late (alas) and then I will still swap out on time.
But since they are in the mail system, I believe they will be on time.

04-05-2011, 09:49 PM
BigToe, your cards arrived. Thanks for the extra postage.

Cards will be returning to you this Friday. I will swap them out thursday afternoon.

04-07-2011, 11:55 PM
Okay.....cards are in their new envelopes and will be mailed tomorrow, April 8th!

Remember to give rep (you rock) points to each player from whom you receive cards and iTrader to me.
Also try to note in this thread whose cards you received because people like to know where their cards got to.

04-08-2011, 10:50 AM
Wow! I'm so busy making cards that these dates sneak up on me. My second swap cards! I'm excited (and so nerdy about that). Will Christmas never end?!? :)

04-08-2011, 09:50 PM
I've been doing this for 2 years now and Christmas never does end - I love it!!

04-08-2011, 10:33 PM
All the cards except for those for Mrs Ragbrutty ( I haVE no mailing address) went out today.

Our main computer is in the shop...alas. I do have access to an unfamiliar laptop. I will check in daily. I did do all my iTraders for this swap.

YAY! I got my cards! After an icky-stick-in-the-arm dr appt, here was sunshine to brighten my sunshiney day. Yes, Spring has reached SE Michigan. At least for today.

@Mace, I received your Abstract Torn paper with the detective. Yay! I so liked that one of yours.
@mtpaperplayer, I received Flower Play. I love the texture that even the edges are torn!
@Crystallized - I received Sunshine and your bouquet of flowers. Just what I needed!

Thank you, thank you wonderful hostess NancyL! You reminded me how fun it is to play with paper. As a scrapbooker, you'd think I'd get it. Right. I may just have to do more of these...!

I was amazed to have 13 Pms when I came on the computer! I htink only 10 were iTrader for this swap... but they did arrive quickly.
Yes, our computer is home. I guess I am glad that I was sort of forced to use the laptop, cause otherwise I was never going to. But I like a key board where your fingers know where everything is and the symbols on the keys aren't teeny tieny and the keys stick up.
