MARCH PAT
Swap Due Date – May 15
Sign up/withdraw – None, once signed up you’re in so PLEASE be sure you want to play
Number of Cards - 1 for each person in your group
Number of participants -8 groups of 5 players

Welcome to the MARCH Pick-A-Theme!
To Play you must have:

* an established positive iTrader rating of +15
* no negatives within the last 6 months
* no neutrals for lack of cards/communication within the last 3 months.
* NO EXCEPTIONS so PLEASE don’t ask

If you think you want to play, but have questions PLEASE read all the instructions to see if they are answered there. If they are not go ahead and sign up with an undetermined theme to reserve your spot, then PM me and I will do my best to clear up whatever. We can always open the spot back up if you decide not to join

Please, please, please do not over commit yourself. Anyone who does not follow through will receive a negative iTrader from me and could receive a negative iTrader from each member of your group.

General Information:

~This swap contains 8 groups of 5 members. Sign ups end when all spots are filled.

~You must be willing to work on all the other themes in your group!

~This will be an on time swap. CARDS are to be in my hands on / before MAY 15th. I
know life can get in the way sometimes so if something comes up please contact me as
soon as possible so we can work it out.

~ Pick a group, pick a theme

~ Once you sign up you can’t withdraw, as some artist start their cards immediately.

~ Make a card for each of the members of your group in their chosen theme; you will
receive a card of your chosen theme in return from each member

~ Make sure you send cards you are proud of.

~ To cut down on possible mail machine malfunctions, no embellishments please!

Sending Your Cards:

~All cards should be sent in individual plastic sleeves if you have them. (If you don’t protect them some way and I will provide them. I don’t want that to stop anyone from playing.)

~Please include your username and group number on the outside envelope I see first

~Please put your username, the group number and the recipient’s username on each card
card you make.

~If you want to post your cards to the thread for all to enjoy please do, but it is not
necessary.

Mailing Information:

USA folks -----

Please enclose a self-addressed envelope and postage.

As for postage I think since there probably will be 4 cards it is a good idea to put .61 on the envelope.

INTERNATIONAL folks ----

Please enclose an address label, your address clearly printed on a piece of paper or a long self-addressed envelope. I’ll pay the return postage. (A dollar bill or .98 US stamp is appreciated, but if you don’t have either please don’t let that stop you from joining in on the fun)

Pick-A-Theme Examples

~ Regular – Generic themes where is it easy to think up a card; for example fairies, cats, dogs, flowers, etc. or less generic themes which require a little more thought or research but are not difficult to find a reference or collage images. Examples of regular themes include: flying pigs with hats, red poppies, whimsical houses, nature fairies, zetti, etc.

~ Challenging –Themes that usually require research and reference. Examples are characters from books or movies or perhaps obscure themes such as “Dogs in Victorian England.” They can also be themes that are difficult to interpret like music or a difficult poem. These can require a lot of thought and effort. If you have internet references please include the best one of them so I can post it for your fellow group members

Here are the groups subject to change. They are a bit different this time. If there is no interest in a particular category I can eliminate the group, if there is enough interest in something different we can discuss a change or if one of the current groups fills up quickly and there is nothing in something else we can change it. PM me if you have a different idea and we can discuss it!

Can I join Group 3?

My theme is puzzles from Professor Layton. Here's (http://professorlaytonwalkthrough.blogspot.com/2008/02/puzzle001.html) a site with all the puzzles on it. Once you pick a puzzle from the sidebar, you might have to scroll down to actually see it. If you don't like the ones from the first game, you can click the links on the sides for the second and third.

(To clarify: you don't have to come up with your own puzzle, or have the puzzle actually on the card. For example, if you pick "Sinking Ship (http://professorlaytonwalkthrough.blogspot.com/2008/02/puzzle013.html)", you can just draw an ATC with a sinking ship on it.)

Do you mean things/people with wings? Or just wings?

Sorry, Elena - I was sort of leaving it vague on purpose to allow for artistic interpretation, but really, I suppose I meant that I'd like the card to feature something on it with wings - what that something is, is up to you. It can be something that would have wings normally like a bird or butterfly; it can be something which would be less likely to - that's entirely up to the maker. But please, no renditions of Paul McCartney's 70s band... :)

I would like a RETRO BARBIE. Your choice of any Barbie with the original eyes (the sideways glance and blue eyeshadow). I love those eyes.

There are plenty of images at Barbie Collector (http://www.barbiecollector.com/shop/category/vintage-repros) if you need them.

Oh yes, I love the old-style eyes much more than the ones on the contemporary barbie.

I have heard that they were changed because they were deemed to be too demure and passively feminine; but I think that forward-facing eyes barbie just looks empty-headed. I like the slyness of the older one.

Just want to let everyone know I am going to be gone more than here the next couple of days trying to get ready for a big birthday party at my house tomorrow. Must clean, clean, clean and then cook.

I will try to check here several times a day and answer pms.

Please don't worry if you have sent your cards and I have not mentioned it yet. Several envelopes have arrived. If I have time I will at least list them and do the rest on Firday, if no time it will all be done on Friday.

Anyone who wants to join your official welcome will come Friday!

If anyone needs my address before post here and hopefully someone else can pm them with it

This is my first PAT...true confession: when I first read the instructions I misunderstood. When I quickly realized I would receive cards in my theme rather than paint them myself, I had a moment of panic and then decided I was up for a challenge. I hope you guys agree!

I don't do faces, and I normally do landscapes, and here I am in a swap with fairies and mermaids and dragons!

I had a great time doing these, and I hope group 7 likes the cards.

The tree is for Evalila, "back of a mermaid" for SpiritFingers, Flower Fairy for lazyshadows, dragon for djl1050, and a flower for our hostess.

Beth ... you're right ... these PAT's can be a real challenge ... but what better way to grow and expand your abilities ... sometimes I even amaze myself with the result of a card in a theme someone else requested. I know creativity comes from within, and once released the therapy is priceless. Your cards are wondeful ... keep up the good work. Who knows, someday you might even put a face on it ... LOL:jiggy:

Group 3 My cards are up in my gallery.
Kavka- Didn't read the kimono part until after I drew her so had to redraw. There are now 2 dolls in my gallery. You may have whichever you choose but only one has a kimono.
biter buck- Hope I interpreted what you were after correctly
BrianaSH-I went with a full body Barbie but have a portrait style in my gallery as well. If you'd like that instead let me know and I'll swap it in.
ceejay-I aged the paper so it would look more Victorian. Hope that's ok.

Apparently postage went up today!

Now 2 ounces is .64 instead of .61. 1 ounce stayed the same, .44

If you have already sent your cards and put .61 don't worry I will cover the extra .03! (I am not going to ask anyone to spend .44 and another envelope to send me .03 that is just plain silly to me!)

Actually if you are ready to mail and don't need to go to the post office for anything else go ahead and send the SASE with .61, I can cover the rest of it. No sense in making a special trip on my account.

If you put .44 nothing to worry about as that stayed the same.

Questions or concerns please pm me!

04-18-2011, 09:02 AM
The only postage not going up is the 98 cent international and the .44 cent 1 ounce. The Canadian went up to .80 cents I think she told me at the post office and post cards went up as well.

Kavka
04-18-2011, 12:28 PM
Sent out my cards earlier today. I'm pretty sure that I went overboard on postage, but I just can't stand the thought of them being sent back!

kentuckydakota
04-18-2011, 01:32 PM
Mailed my cards as well, and had it weighed. Even with 4 cards + extra envie + hostess card it was still well under the one ounce cut off. Unless mine are especially light I think there's no trouble with one stamp.

Kavka
04-18-2011, 03:32 PM
Well, I had 8 cards and they felt particularly heavy (I back my cards with another card so 16 cards really). Beyond 4 cards I feel like it's over an ounce.
I could've gotten it weighed but eh...it's just quicker this way.

xstitcher
04-19-2011, 12:01 AM
Hey all, here’s the deal with the postage.

What went up is the 2 ounce rate. Now instead of .61 which is usually a .44 and a .17 stamp the rate is .64 which means we need to add another .03 stamp……

So what this means is if you sent me an envie with .61 I will put another .03 on it so as not to be noticed by the post office as being below the correct amount.

If you sent more or less than that chances are I will use what you provided and everyone will be happy.

At least before I have always only used postage provided and everthing was fine.

I've been a bit slow getting started with this one - not sure why, though partly because I think I was worrying about a Victorian theme in fabric - but anyway, finally bit the bullet and did my cards for Group 6. And a hostie card. My other group is more straightforward (a collage group), so I'm hoping to get them done tonight as well. Or tomorrow :)

Anyway, these are Celestial (card looks better in person - gold organza fabric doesn't scan well); Victorian (seaside theme); Flower Garden; Artist's Choice (went with flower and butterfly - both in the profile as likes!); and the purple & red hostie card.

My mail came so late yesterday I forgot about it and didn't get it out of the box until I was going to bed at midnight.

There were cards from:

After a couple of false starts and delays the cards are ready to go out. Tomorrow I will be going to the post office, buying postage and sending all the cards on their way.

Sorry for the delay. I planned on getting it finished a few days ago, but I totaly spaced out and forgot about them, then the plan was to take care of them today, except Mother Nature stepped in with other plans so with all the tornados around I was forced to spend part of my day dealing with that and the granddaughters who were a bit scared.

Nothing should stop the trip to the post office tomorrow. I will post as soon as I get back.

So far today is a bright beautiful day!

I have returned from the post office so the cards are on the way. I think they leave our local PO about 11:30.

Since Monday is a holiday I am guessing things should start arriving Tuesday or so.

damn, sis xs, what a lot to digest. we are only human and yet it never ceases to amaze me at how much we can take and still keep going. and then stick a pat swap on top. hope the kids are feeling safer....and you keep rockin' like we know you can.

So glad cards are arriving.

I will try and update the list to show received as soon as I can.

Some virus found me and will not let go. One day I feel better, then the next back to bad. Now my husband has it too.

Finally got around to doing my itrader - nancy and magicjessnrach, we were in two groups together, so I've done one, but the other one will have to wait at least 2 hours (and as I won't be up at 2am it will have to wait longer than that!!)
