Pens, Paper, Paints, Hand drawn CJ Group

This group is for hand drawn art, paper, paints, pens, oil pastels, and pencils of your choice. It is not for stickers, rubber stamping, embelishments, digital or photography.

What is a Circle Journal? (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1024)

As a participant, you are required to
--check in with your Journal Group at least once a week
--report to group when you will be away from net or out of town and where you stand on spreads at that time (VERY Important)
--report when pages are mailed (it is suggested that you photograph the stamped envelope containing the page with the recipient's address for verification of mailing)
--report when you receive a spread and from whom
--notify the group and your partner if you cannot mail on time
--notify your next trading partner, if you fall behind, not to create or mail a page for you until you are caught up.
~~ Be prepare for postage costs of mailing large envelopes each month and possibly around the world. ~~

Note: If you do not post to your group thread or to a Group Host for more than two (2) weeks, the Group Host may report you to the Moderators and your membership in the Circle Journals will go on suspension. Your name will be taken off the rotation and pages will not be sent to you. NO EXCEPTIONS. We expect active participation in all the groups.

~~ I plan to follow these rules. Communication is VERY important and I would prefer you not join if you are not typically active in the forum. ~~

* Delivery Confirmation Numbers (for USA) on packages are no longer mandatory for page spreads, but if you do use them, post the # in the group thread.

LOL I spent a long time looking at Mrs Alderman's and Locke's characters. With my internet it takes forever! Then I started to print some for referance and I ran out of ink :(

But I guess it is ok I just remembered I have to draw a Purple people eater chunky before I get too far into this. Almost forgot about tht trade.

Locke

Aw :3 My characters are very special to me...and many of them I don't post and I don't know why! I have so much random unfinished art x_x

I'm so excited!

I definatly know what I'm donig for Lemurkat's! My favorite book is The cladi Journal's Series by Tanith Lee (wolf Tower, wolf star, wolf queen and wolf wing!)

and I have many ideas for Evailia's already too!

Oh fab, my first Circle Journal:D

Now Iīm going to put my thinking cap on:yes:

Linda4atc

Locke you can always put some in your gallery here. I don't now if you have the paid membership but you get a whole lot more message and gallery space with it. And I think it's something like $20 for a whole year.

Linda4atc

Also to both of you with characters you want used it might be fun to give a little profile story about each if they have particular personality traits you would like to include.

I have some ideas and I am thinking of using Illia.

I still need to form my ideas better for Mrs Aldermans characters but I am most drawn to jester and Lemya.

Locke
09-30-2011, 03:52 PM
Illia has a rediculous story that a friend of mine and I came up with when I was in highschool.

She was a space 'pirate' (a.k.a junk collector) who owned her own small ship. When she was trailing a strange message one day she found a bunch of debris around a planet she'd never seen before and had her ship grab what looked like a broken escape pod. When she brought it into the ship there was a huge man inside but he was part armadillo. His name was Maximus and his entire civilization was destroyed by a shark alien race. Maximus's armadillo 'shell' on his back had been badly damaged and she helped repair it with metal working much like her eye. (Her eye behind the visor is blind, but she can see through an opening in the visor when it does open.)

Together they travel around trying to gather a resistance to fight back at the shark people.

*is weird*

Linda4atc
09-30-2011, 05:37 PM
That is really cool. The image I am thinking of is to have her inside something like the inside of a computer, a mother board or some such. Have her rescuing someone (maybe Van) Who is sealed into a clear cylinder tube, and have some sort of grimlins here and there since I know my computer is full of them.

XD sounds fun Locke!!

Jester has two careers, a circus performer by day and a master thief by night. shes a contortionist, tightrope walker and not afraid of heights, ect ect. bright patterns and circus apparel in the day, stealthy clothes at night XD. her time period is early Victorian ages. (i've yet to draw regular apparel, but there is a short comic of her in stealth mode and a gob in circus wear)

Lemya is a student in an under water academy and she just graduated to be the sea folk's traverser. she gets to be one of the few to leave the ocean/sea and explore Thera (a very strange mixed up planet) and come back with storys and books to tell the underwater folk. i have two pages of that comic done so far.

Mrs.Alderman

if anyone has other questions about my characters i'm more than happy to answer ^U^. on sunday i will have a conglomerate of them all done with bios and descriptions!

83266 Here is my line drawing for Mrs Alderman, I will add more detail as I go. I hope you don't mind me putting the girls in swimsuits? I know that tree has a really funky straight branch. I had it inked to far before I really focused on it. I am sorry, just hope the other stuff draws the eye away...

Now I really need to go worky on that Purple People Eater chnky page. LOL

Yes I think I noticed a shark look to her teacher? Maybe he is from the same planet that Illia and Maximus are fighting.

Ah i love the intertwining ideas of stories! A friend of mine and I do it all the time too!

Mrs.Alderman
09-30-2011, 10:34 PM
thats soo cool Linda!! thank you! they all look so cute in their suits :D, i love how Jester is swinging in the tree and how Lemya connects the pages together ^U^!! Luna looks adorable too. your tree looks fine, i cant draw trees very well (which is funny for a horticulturist...)
yea hes a shark XD. the dean of the school is a regular mermaid and her classmates are various fish types.
ooh they could totally be from the same planet if its okay!
all of my characters intertwine through Thera somehow, it is truly a strange and very very large planet. there's floating islands and a comic book country and its really just a spew of things put together onto one planet XD. it would be fun to connect other artists comics and stories to it!!

Well Kavka there is nothing to say we can't do private trades with ya! I know I' would love to. What would you want as a theme and what size?

Locke
10-01-2011, 03:09 AM
Ohh i have a story like that...but instead of one big planet there's one but the gods split it into 5 alternate worlds that share the same space...Like invisible barriers that block us from seeing or feeling people in the same space as out own...and when you die you move on to the next world but since we're somehow kind of the same people we are drawn to the same places which is why in one world we'd see ghosts...like the energy left behind of one person in the world interacting through the barrier or trying to touch that person through it..

Kavka
10-01-2011, 10:03 AM
Aw, it's okay. I really don't have a lot of time to focus on arts stuff right now any way :(
Maybe I'll try to jump in on a later one.

Iīm already working on lemurkatīs pages. I chose the book "Sophieīs World" by Jostein Gaarder. I made some sketches and colored them in. Now I have to decide about the composition and the background, so the elements donīt seem to flow on it:wideeyed:

Mrs.Alderman
10-01-2011, 12:15 PM
=D thats really neat locke!! i've heard that theory about ghosts before too, it seems pretty valid, but who really knows what happens after were gone? just those who are huh?
Kavka!! when you do have time i would love to trade pages with you tooo!!!!! >D i'll take a book please lol!
Evalila those pages are beautiful! i like your fire work alot ^U^

Locke
10-01-2011, 01:12 PM
Evalila: I really think those pages are beautiful too!

Mrs. Alderman: Yeah :D I actually never heard of it as a theory before. I was actually at a friends house telling kids ghost stories when I came up with it. But for my worlds it's a big part of them. Not nessicarily 'ghost'. but eventually the world come back together and 3 kinds of 'human-like' life have to live together.

If you're interested I could tell you guys more Cx It's the world Locke and Van are from.

Linda4atc
10-01-2011, 02:08 PM
Sure more stories would be awesome! But I think it would be fun if you save them and spread them out here and there throughout the months to help keep the thread alive. I worry about all the energy our muses have now failing us later.

Almost done sketching the right side of TF's pages :3

Well I am going to have to redo the Left side of Mrs A's page. I messed it up. But my original sketch is on printer paper, I just scribbled on the back with a pencil to transfer the main lines like a carbon. I do this on bigger projects, because I am heavy handed and sometimes you can still see all the unwanted lines I erased.

Locke
10-02-2011, 07:39 PM
Oh noes!

I love donig transfer but I haven't been making big pictures for a while Dx

Dunno how much more i'll get done tonight since i'm gonig driving tonight...trying for my first behind the wheel drivers test tommorow!

The theme I'm useing for Tf's is "Welcome to the feast" Vampires on the right and werewolves on the left...I hope that works for your theme! If you don't like it just let me know and I'll start a new one Cx

If you look at my little thumbnail on the far right that's the idea for the werewolves side...female werewolf eating the heart of her...'mate'.

I'm not good at dark, gorey and demented things D:

It's great Locke! :) i know we all have different ideas of dark and gorey, so where ever you fall on the spectrum and are comfortable with is fine by me. :) and if gorey bothers anyone too much they can just skip that thought and concentrate on dark spooky things instead. I'm not hard to please.

Oh Locke, I've got that book but I haven't read it yet (all three in one, it's a brick). I'll have to pull it off the shelf!

Thanks Linda for sending me the link, I had completely failed to notice the thread. So I'm a wee bit behind. But never mind, I'll make up for it this weekend.

I've got the two creepy/dark/gothic ones up first, so that'll be a challenge for me. I might need to read some horror stories for inspiration. Any suggestions?

TF Balding
10-03-2011, 02:01 AM
When it comes your turn to do my pages Lemurkat have a Tim Burton Marathon. :) creepy and dark without being too horrific and gorey if that helps any. Otherwise read a lil Poe, and you'll be fine. :)

Mrs.Alderman
10-03-2011, 02:04 AM

I have never met another person in my entire life who has EVER read it. so I usually go out and BUY copies fo it for people I know. There is actually 4 books and the fourth ones isn't included in the big set! I have had two copies of the first three in soft back which I gave away to friends and I have the same one you're talknig about! The fourth book has beautiful artwork and if it weren't for those books I might not be alive today.

They came to me in a very hard time in my life before the fourth one had even come out and probably the wait for the last one was what kept me from hurting myself at that time.

The main character is well..there's too many uncanny resemblances between her and me...it's really scary. And the last page of the final book..I honestly feel the author stalked me and wrote a fantasy story of some things in my real life!

If you read it and have a hard time finding the last book I will send you mine if you don't mind sending it back. It's my most prized book of all time.

Linda4atc
10-03-2011, 02:34 AM
I have been into Paranormal Vampire type books lately. Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series and the carpathian "Dark" series. But both series are more sexy than creepy. LOL

Locke
10-03-2011, 02:40 AM
There's a comic book for that too if you're short on time!

You could always hit up a bookstore right now..tis the season for spooky things...

There's a great Alfred Hitchcock collection of some of his best stories in one book if that is spooky enough for you Cx

lemurkat
10-03-2011, 02:47 AM
Locke - maybe I could borrow it off you in LA and pass it back in Portland? It'd cost a fortune to ship. I'd be better off ordering it myself from the Book Depository Or getting it on ebook, if it's available. Better read the first three first, however.

Evalila

Oh, the pages that have been posted so far are great!!!! Hmmm, I think Iīm far from being so talented:embarrassed: Maybe I need much more practice....

The first page for lemurkat is almost finished - need to add some more details and shadows. Still thinking about the composition for the second one...

Good news! I found a few sheets of bristol i forgot i even had left! Yaaay! No 40 min treak to the art supply store for me this week! :D And i can get started in a more serious kinda way after work tonight. :)

I'm going to see if I can find some 8x8 inch sized card this weekend too, because cutting it to size is not-fun.

Linda4atc
10-03-2011, 02:45 PM
lemurkat if you have a store that does framing matts they may cut a large sheet for you.

Also last time I had them cut a mat for me at Michaels. the girl made a mistake. When I saw her toss it in the trash I asked and she gave it to me along with several other large scraps to use for chunkies and large dieuts.

TF Balding
10-03-2011, 03:23 PM
Well that was a SCORE! I'm never that lucky... ima go shoppin with you next time! :)

Mrs.Alderman
10-03-2011, 07:03 PM
=D i never thought of using mat board. i picked up some 140lbs, 300g/m cold press watercolor paper. there 10x8 but i have a paper cutter and can use the 2" margin for testing colors ^U^.

Linda4atc
10-03-2011, 11:10 PM
Nook The Matboard is NOT for the journal hun. Your watercolor paper and drawing papers with some body like Bristol is what you want to use.

I am so sorry,
That was something else totally. Igot off subject when I was telling lemurkat that she can have large sheets of watercolor paper or papers like the Bristol cut at some framing places, because she didn't want to cut them herself.

Do you listen to The Killers? If not, look up "A Dustland Fairytale" by them. Her story was inspired from that song.

In ancient times there were two tribes, the Land People and the Sky People. The Land People were nomads that lived off of the land. The Sky People were a much more advanced civilization and lived in flying castles, but they were also very special. The castles brought rain to the Land people so that the place they lived in wasn't a dessert.

After a long time the Land People settled down more and more, and the Sky people drifted further and further away. Soon the place where most of the Land people lived began to die. so they pleaded with the Sky people to come back, when they refused the Land People began to build weapons to use against the sky People to bring them back.

It obviously didn't, and the land turned to dust.

Many, many years later all of the people had settled down in towns around creeks and rivers if ever there were any left. They built western towns and the people scraped and tried their best to live off of the land. There were constant fights with the 'indians' and the 'civilized world', but everyone was always quite content with going to the local saloon for a drop of ale every now and again.

Mary's father was the saloon owner with his wife, and his best friend, Hopsing. They were the inseperable trio of the West and highly loved by the people in town. But soon Hopsing grew bitter because he had none of the things that his friend had had...

The father and wife soon were going to have a baby, Mary of course, and he was so overwhelmed with joy, but there was one thing that also bothered him so much.

Mary's father had been given, many years ago, a map.

And this map was to the greatest treasure of all time, one of the flying castles. Before his wife fell pregnant he had made plans of taking Hopsing for one last ride out into the dust and trying to find it. With those plans ruined, Hopsing began to resent his best friends family even more. Now he would no longer have the riches he deserved! He would always be second best!

but he did nothing for a while, stewing in his newfound HATE for his friend hopsing turned to criminals for help. He lead of a gang of the most ruthless villians to ever traverse the dust, and when the time was right he struck.

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/5637/1_murder.jpg

In the dead of night he murdered his best friend and his wife, and when Hopsing could not find the map in the home he looked for the little girl, she was only about three at the time. After chasing a trail of bloodied foot prints into the nursery he found her ni the corner of the room, hiding the map behind her back. Her father always let her play with it, and so with her it stayed, her most prized possession.

Though he was filled with hate he couldn't bring himself to kill Mary. So he took her, the map, and any valuables left in the home. He pinned the murder on someone else with the help of his new 'friends', and Mary was too scared of him to ever tell otherwise. He adopted her, the saloon and soon his gang of vile men took run of the town.

Years later Mary, a young adult dons a black long haired wig before going on stage. He says it will make her look even better then she already does, since no one comes to see short haired women. She dances for a living.

[x] (http://arzefiel.deviantart.com/art/Comic-145360977?q=gallery%3Aarzefiel%2F32968951&qo=4)

Though her dances are wild and beautiful, and she makes all the men happy, she knows this is not where she should be, and that somthing from her past bothers her. Things that she can't remember, and things her 'father' won't tell her...

((I'm sleepy so I'll tell you som'more tomorrow :3 I got my drivers license today btw!))

I"ve got some swap cards I really need to work on first. Trust me to decide to join a swap two weeks before the due date... But inspiration suddenly struck me. Anyhow, I've one and a half to go there, then I shall start conceptualising (ie: sketching out) - might take a trip into the Drawing Room tomorrow in search of precut card.

Lemurkat, When I cut my art paper (just about any size) I use an Olfa mat and rotary cutter. I also have a 12x12 clear ruler and several slaller ones. These are all found in a fabric store for Quilting. It allows very precise cutting if you ar carefull. Also keep ALL fingers away from the blade!!! it is actuallty a rolling razor blade!!!

I had several doctors appointments this week and found out that I have omarthritis in my right shoulder. :( Iīll get acupuncture starting next week. So sorry I haven't been around! I started my second page so I can paint them and ink them together. My swap ended yesterday and I have to swap out the cards.

I started school yesterday and I've got class Wednesdays from 1:00pm to 10pm, Fridays from 1:00 - 5:00PM, and mondays 1-5. I've also here today and possibly a few other thursdays 'cause I tutor at the school and possibly going to start tuedsays and thursdays at my little sisters school! (I tutor all general education!)

Also in January I start an internship with Disney and have to move to their dorms so I don't know if starting then I'll have mail go there or to my house since I will beable to come home every couple of weeks.

DON'T worry though! I'm used to being busy so I'll get stuff done :D I'll probably just not host anymore until August when I get to come home from Disney!

@TF: I LOVE IT BTW! I saw it earlier today but I didn't get to say anything because I had to drive to school! (I was also taking care of my kitty, he has cancer and wasn't feeling well) I'm really excited for your pages!

@Linda: AH! I hate that. I write and draw with my right hand but I do EVERYTHING else with my left, even the majority of typing (I never learned to type traditionally), and it's constantly getting carpal tunnel and I've got something wrong with that shoulder ;y; I have to sleep with a brace to stop it!

I hope you heal fast DDD:

Beautiful work being done by all. I still need to get the addresses onto one list, pm'd out to each of you.

:( What happens if something horrible does happen to one of us in the next 6months??? This is the reason we tradein pairs each month. Life does happen, (but it's not going to happen to us;)) If we trade each month and do not send our art to early we should know if the reciepient is able to make our pages in return. If both parties get their pages done early by all means trade away.

If someone sends pages and the person is unable to fullfill their part of the trade you have every right to ...

a. leave a negative itrader
b. ask for your pages back, leave negative itrader if you do not get them back; maybe nuetral if you do
c. If the person is truly hurt or has a totally understandable reason for not completing their part of the trade, you also have the option of agreeing to wait till things are better (negative itrader can be done later if need be) or to offer your pages as a RAK and not expect the trade to be compleed.

As long as we all keep comunications open we should be able to work something out. And sweet locke knows that that busy schedule is not an excusse. ;) hugs...

Cool, I've got an idea in my head, but I am having trouble translating it onto paper. I think I need to relax and doodle a bit first to plot and plan it out. Maybe do each page independently inside of trying to do them side by side (or purchase an A3 sized pad and draw it before cutting it). I also have a week off right at the end of the month. So I can try and do both in that time, maybe.

Your art is amazing, Locke. I wish I could draw people like you can.

I tried to draw a dementor and failed, so it's back to the original idea. I have large enough paper now to make it easier to sketch it out, so hopefully I should have something to show for it soon.

Linda4atc

I am not very good at drawing anything realistic. My people lean more to cartoonish even if I try to do a real person, but I found that I love this for drawing things. It really helps me with getting the proprtions right on people. But I don't use it all the time.

84002 bought it at Michaels. they have a website www.paintbygrids.com
It has 15 different transparent grids so you find the one that fits your image best. Then it has a ruler and chart to help yu draw the right size grid on your sketch paper or canvas. For atc's I have just been doing a 1/2 inch grid (5x7) then find a grid that fits the image into the 5x7squares.

Hand and heads are hard! Don't be ashamed! I actually inked mine wrong which is why I blacked them out! I'll end up fixing them with gel pen or somthing when the whole thing is finished :3

My grandmother had a firt the other day when she was watching some cutesy werewolf movie on disney where one of the girls turned into a werewolf and my grandmother kepty asking me if girls could be werewolves or not because she didn't believe in female werewolves!

Soo I made a girl one Cx

oh TF hands are the hardest!! i still get them wrong. i have a little stack of bad hand cards i just keep in the oops pile XD. >0 even if i'm inking the best drawn hand still i mess up lol!

XD Lock for the longest time i was unsure if there were lady werewolves too!! you only see the hairy man beasts. blood and chocolate had a sort of lady werewolf, but she was more just a girl who turned into a wolf. good movie by the way.

Hmmm, hereīs an attempt on a SHORT summary;) of the book:

One day Sophie (the black-haired girl) finds a letter addressed to her asking "Who are you?". This letter is followed by several others, asking more philosophical questions. These letters have been sent by Alberto Knox, who starts teaching Sophie philosophy (Socrates is an example for all the philosophers). The dog Hermes carries some of the letters to Sophie.

On another day, Sophie finds a postcard addressed to Hilde Knag (the blonde girl), wishing her a Happy Birthday. This postcard is from Hildesīs father Albert Knag. Then a red scarf of Hilde appeared in Sophieīs room. In a forest cabin Sophie finds the identity card of Hilde. The cabin belongs to Hildeīs father and is called the "Majorīs cabin".

Later Sophie and Alberto Knox find out that they are just part of Albert Knagīs book he has written for his daughter Hilde.
Later he tells Hilde about the Big Bang and that we all are part of the same whole.

On Sophieīs (and Hildeīs) 15th birthday she gives a garden party. During this party Alberto Knox tells everyone that they are only an imagination by Albert Knag. Then the sky gets dark and Sophie and Alberto disappear...

I guess this is something interesting for my characters..

Yesterday I got into my character modeling class and I'm going to be modeling Illia for the first project! I'm really excited.

I had to find style references and things to show and explain her design more and I ended up using David Bowie (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_SXI9xWkTQek/TSkW1VXkIBI/AAAAAAAAEAg/NeBwR3G7lSg/s1600/David-Bowie.jpg) and Castor (http://screencrave.frsucrave.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Tron-Legacy-Michael-Sheen-as-Castor-15-12-10-kc-150x150.jpg) from tron Legacy as my style references!

That makes perfect sense! :) and is also good info to have (if ya ask me). Taking on other people's characters is a lil scary if you dont have a few snippets of personality(of both the characters and their creators) to go off of. When i chose Mary i thought I want to make her a pin-up dream... but would Locke appreciate that or would it be offensive due to some bit of storyline i dont have... so any info you guys have about your characters is highly appreciated in my book! :)

Wow lovely pages!!! And I agree Evalila, Lemurkat's spider page is cool, but it will Truly be a "Lemurkat" piece when you see her beautiful a distinctive coloring style.

I picked up a cheap 18" x 12" drawing tablet for sketching my pages. Then I'll transfer them to Bristol or (watercolor paper). Then I'll transfer them with chacopaper. No more taping two pieces of paper together, and no more lead scribbles on the back.:D

I"m doing mine on A3 sized cartridge. Alas, I could only find 110 gsm, so I will have to back it on actual card when it is finished and cut. I can't remember how I used to do 8x8 pages, but 6x6s were easier, because I could do them on A4 card and then cut it. Still, I've started to colour it up. It's going to be quite dark (in colour) when I"m finished. I hope it works okay, cos if I mess it up, I'm gonna have to start again from scratch - I didn't scan the lineart (it was too big).

It's going to be quite dark (in colour) when I"m finished. I hope it works okay, cos if I mess it up, I'm gonna have to start again from scratch - I didn't scan the lineart (it was too big).

6x6 is easier for scanning, but does your scanner scan a single 8x8 page? I thought they scan 8 1/2 x 11 pages.

Im not sure what A3 sized cartridge is, or 110 gsm.

Mines are all on japanese comic book paper Cx if you look hard even after I paintthem you'll probably still see faint indication of the border lines...it's like bristol but I think I'll back mine anyways

It'll scan it when it's cut, but now I"m working on 16 x 8 inches.

A3 and 110 gsm are non-US measurements - they're standard use in Australasia and maybe Europe?

OK I really need images to work with so I have been thinking where to get my creepy themes. Some ideas I had, speak up if you have a preference... Harry Potter (have three dvds to work from, Resident Evil (2 dvds), World of Warcraft (online game), and several xbox 360 games including Lord of the rings, Fallout, and MANY many others if you want to suggest one I'll see if we have it. Not sure what game my husband was playing the other day but their was some really cool skellies in armored helms. If either of would like me to try any of these I will see what I can come up with.

For Lemurkat other than Jean M Auel's Earth Children series I mentioned before, I could use Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter if you Prefer?

thats a good question for those who want creepy pages, whats the level of creepy? mabey a rating XD. cause i can make super creepy art, but i dont want to give you nightmares if you dont want them lol.

I hope no one hates me after i say this... but for my pages i'm happy with whatever level of creepy that you are comfortable doing. As much as i love Harry Potter, i'm kinda over it (that heifer needs to get busy and write something else, lol) same goes with Twighlight. I'd just prefer my creeps to not be sparkling and in love so much as tearing peeps' throats out, lol. Silent Hill, Resident Evil (LOVE the dogs!) Kinda video games. Or if you just arent comfy with that, i ADORE Tim Burton stuff. I really love Day of the Dead stuff, too. So try to give me nightmares if ya want, or just something creepy and cool. I'll be happy either way. :)

Ps. Lemurkat... as much as i read, your theme is making me crazy, lol... i cant decide WHAT ima do for you!

LOL I like a lot of creepy books, games and movies. Also some dark or creepy art but I am not drawn towards it. I'm afraid I do not even know who Tim Burton is other that he is mentioned here and there at AFA.

I do really like Day of the Dead but I want to draw something creepier.

:laugh:OK, I know who and hate Beetlejuice. I think I recognize the Nightmare Before Christmas art and it's sometimes fun, but I've never had an interest in watching it. Is the Corpse Bride another like Nightmare Before Christmas? If not I have no idea about that.:embarrassed::laugh:

Lemurkat it is really Cool love the Moon and Spider. Let me know when you mail it so I can mark it as mailed please.

I think I'm going to do some Day of the Dead incies for the inchie-a-thon. Not so much in the mood to work on big right now. My husband is home and like to do pages when I can give it my full concentration. The day I sprained my wrist (which is better but still not good) was the first day of his vacation. So my schedule has not reall been my own.

I at least have the pages ready to color. I can however work on some early sketches for the other pages in the mean time. Guess I should go look at Who I have next month.

Lemurkat! that's beautiful!

The corpse bride was created by the same puppet team as both nightmare before christmas and coraline.

I honestly saw TNBC when it came to theaters when I was very very young and I liked it then, (sorry I hate it's cult fandom of today!) but it's a very cute movie you should try to see :3 It's more of a Christmas movie then halloween strangely enough..

Corpse bride is like TNBC in it obviously involves a land of the living dead but it's much more 'adult' in it's themes. Like that of love. It's very poetic and follows in many of the themes of shakespere and edgar allen poe. but DESIGN WISE.

It fucking amazing. the 'real' living world is drab and grey while the land of the dead is colorful an full of life (hence why the bride is blue and the man is grey). Very fun movie, terribly underrated, amazing animation.

TF Balding
10-15-2011, 01:57 AM

(Except for the hating the NMB4XMAS cult fav thing, lol, i'm so in that boat)

And thanks for describing Corpse Bride in a better way than i could think of, lol!

Btw, i have another question: your character Locke and the pics you have posted, does she have 2 forms like some of your others?

for Mrs Alderman using characters of her creation.

Hand drawn, assorted markers. My Green markers were just too dark or bright, so for the lighter colors of the grass I used chalk ink from a stamp pad stamped onto a nonporous surface and painted on like water colors with a dab of water. I also did the blue water and tree this way.

LOL, Thank you. I do not have ant steadfast rules with my art.

I would love to see your stuff. If you were to give tips on your process you may want to post it to the WIP (works oin progress) forum, and just give us the link.

Here is what I drew for yours.
I have always believed that my computer had grimlens, so when I saw Illia (locke's character) I figured she would be good at helping to rid the world of computer grimlins (my characters) and since there was two pages I figured Vannalli (locke's character) may have just gotton himself into a bind and needs a little help as well.

oh Linda i want to pre-warn you and tell you the colors between my pages are a slight hue off. it was a learning lesson and if bugs you i can re make them. ( i learned to do the background in one day on them both if using watercolor tubes and mixing new colors). if you have a scanner or camera that really picks up on color i would highly appreciate a better scan of them if you would be so kind ^U^. if not, no worries.

Why did I get this done so early? Cos tomorrow I'm going to begin writing again in earnest, and I wanted to get the most difficult and time consuming art commitment out of the way first.

I hope you like it, TF Balding. Sorry I didn't show any in-progress steps. It was too big for the scanner and I was in the flow too much to get out the camera.

It is past 1am. I am very tired.

Could not stand the thought of sending them. So i set them aside and took a little break from them. Turns out i still dont like them, but i'm starting over fresh. Anybody else ever have those moments?

Sooo... my original game plan was to have them in the mail by the 15th or so. I know it's going to take a couple of weeks for them to make the distance. I'm still confident that i can make that time table. just hate starting over.

How's everyone else doing?

Pfffft... Iīm behind this time:)

We had house painters and carpenters working around our house the last few weeks - and Iīm soooooo glad theyīre almost finished:yes:

@ Mrs Alderman: Would you like several of your characters on your pages or can both pages be made with several pics of one character?

i still have to color, i've been a little tied up as of late but i will be able to color soon. i'm guesstamating about the 15th or 16 to be done and ready to mail~
@Evalila: I'm happy for either ^U^ if there's one you really enjoy drawing over the rest I'm happy to have just the one or if you want to draw other characters that's cool too~

I have the first page mostly done. I had to redo both for different reasons. I doubt I'll get anymore done this week. My husband has the week off and Thursday we are heading south to visit family. I will get busy on them Tuesday or Wednesday so I'll be a little over the 15th as well.

Lyndsey your lovely pages are here! So much fun them. I love seeing Lemya up close. And I love that you were able to fit a pretty red dragon into what is basically a water scene. Off to give itrader.

Yup, sometimes with trading cards. I'm sure your pages were fine though. I'll get yours in the post as soon as you're confident with your ones for me.

Locke I really am sorry that I would rather have normal flat pages. I slip my pages into an 8x8 scrapbook with plastic pockets for the pages.

Lemurkat's pages are in the mail! :)

Now someone educate me... when i asked if a tracking/confirmation # could be put on it, the little man told me that wasn't an option for international deliveries? Sooo... for future reference, is there a specific method i should have chosen???

There is no special directions for mailing other than to protect the pages. I think there used to be a rule that they had to have Delivery Confirmation Numbers, but not anymore. I marked you as mailed.
