I've tried a few cards and they're just not coming out to my satisfaction. In fact, I'm getting frustrated. Art should not be frustrating. I'd like to withdraw from this swap - my focus is just elsewhere and I don't want to send in substandard work. Thanks!

I sketch and doodle trees all the time - this swap is calling my name! May I please join?

I have kind of a random question for the host - I live the the US (Michigan), but I'm Canadian, and I'm actually heading across the border on Friday to renew my passport. I was thinking about picking up some Canadian stamps to send to hosts for my return postage. What's the current rate right now - what do you usually need to send to US participants? And do you even think it would be a good idea or appreciated by the Canadian hosts and hostesses? Anybody can weigh in - thanks for the feedback in advance.

Phrixy
02-15-2012, 11:39 PM
You sure can!

There are US stamps here, which are about a dollar and change each. I appreciate Canadian stamps. :)
Also, welcome to AFA!

Aidee
02-16-2012, 02:29 PM
Thanks, it's awesome that you guys can purchase US stamps. I tried at my local PO (for Canadian ones) and they think I'm nuts now. I'll grab some on Friday.

icekat
02-16-2012, 03:10 PM
Our stamps aren't for use in the US, they're from Canada to the US, which is more than Canada to Canada. They're just designated US or Canada or International with set rates for envelopes.

Aidee
02-16-2012, 03:30 PM
Ah, then we have something similar.

Phrixy
02-17-2012, 01:33 PM
Oooo trees love vacations: that's when we actually get to kick back and notice them. :)

WildGoose
03-07-2012, 02:20 AM
It's great seeing all our differing approaches to the subject here!

Here's my four Elemental trees... all but the Water are colour re-mixes of my own photography from Canada and the States -

Air- from the Washington State coast
Fire - from interior British Columbia
Earth - from an Oak tree in Ottawa
The Water tree is a mangrove tree, which I"ve seen in Florida, but didn't have the right picture for

Air and fire have been printed as transparencies going over a silvery and a textured water-colour back-ground. They didn't scan well so I "m showing the original digital files

Earth and water are printed on Hahnemuhle's textured German Etching paper ( new to me )

Will be mailing them to you by Friday, Phrixy!

Wildgoose's are in!!! The Air tree is SUPER SHINY! There are some really cool techniques going on here!

MadLou23
03-15-2012, 07:35 PM
Mine hit the post yesterday. We have Water (blue) Air (green) Metal (grey) and instead of Fire, I worked it through a little...Fire - Passion - Love. After all, Love (red) is as elemental to our survial as air and water!

Phrixy
03-15-2012, 08:02 PM
I'll be watching for them, MadLou23! Interesting that you chose metal to replace Earth?

MadLou23
03-16-2012, 05:20 AM
in some cultures you have 5 elements, both earth and metal...I suppose as a way of distinguising between the earth that sustains growth and the ores that we get from there.

Phrixy
03-16-2012, 04:20 PM
That's very good reasoning! Sometimes, I've found, they use metal instead of air.

Phrixy
03-16-2012, 10:58 PM
I know! The trees are so awesome!

Mrs. Alderman's cards are in! Love them!

Crap, I need to withdraw. Me without ADHD meds is not a good thing; me without my hubby to keep me in line is not a good thing; me having two papers and two exams this week at school and a major project due at work tomorrow is REALLY not a good thing considering I don't have the first two things.

I'm so sad I'm missing out.

Geesh!!
Mine only came Thursday- can you believe it, Phrixy?
Almost 3 weeks even within our fair land of Canada!
(grumble)
....must be a "Fortress Alberta"/Alberta-only screw-up... ( like our upcoming provincial so-called elections are surely going to be )...
( sorry, can't resist that last part )....maybe Income tax filings as well are slowing postal things out East for you and icecat?
Nonetheless,
A fine selection of cards worth the wait!

Thank-you, Simmo ,VickiZ and our host Phrixy ( doubly-thank-you ) for a most creative and individualistic round of cards!

Phrixy
04-22-2012, 07:25 PM
I can. We once had a set of cards get here from -Toronto- a month after they were sent. o.o

Crafty, yours should be there soon :)

I think next round I'm going to have it be a 4:4, as most went the one of each route. Thoughts?
