01-26-2012, 01:21 PM
I found it stunning, so I wanted to share ... sometimes I wonder how the feeling must be for the astronauts to look back at this rock from space. It most be a breathtaking moment!

01-26-2012, 01:51 PM
I have mixed emotions at this time in my life...my 6 yr olds room done in astronauts but our space program is shut...just watched Apollo 18 ha...I have always been an astronomer at heart...so I will continue to spread the love like you sun trade and Kat...

I pray our earth looks like the picture you shared a million years into the future!

01-26-2012, 02:30 PM

My first swap!

I'll sign up for this.

Oh wow I am so silly. I didn't read that the swap was closed. Oh well.

02-02-2012, 11:19 AM
I've made 4 attempts and all are big failures, I guess the theme is just not for me so I'm going to let my spot to somebody else sorry for withdrawing.

02-02-2012, 12:58 PM
Meredithu those are great!

I have been pondering if to make these in oils or acrylics ... I have never made cards in acrylic. Any suggestions? Would they work OK?

02-02-2012, 01:27 PM
Meredithu -- I look forward to seeing your cards in person.

lea67000 -- Thanks for letting us know.

avarenity -- this swap is still open.

02-02-2012, 02:30 PM
Sun Trade- acrylics can be thinned just like watercolor if thats what you want to do!
I used watercolor because I used masking fluid to outline the earths in two if the cards. Oil pastel is nice too because it repels water and you get nice effects.

I dunno....play around and see what happens!

02-02-2012, 03:21 PM
avarenity -- welcome!

Thanks! I will do that .... I have never been too good at oil pastels. I can master the chalk ones, but the oil ones and I do not agree much!:biglaugh:

Pauline -- Your lovely cards arrived today! Thanks for the extra.

02-08-2012, 12:05 AM
still lurking =)

02-08-2012, 12:25 AM
Thanks ART101! I pretty much have the knowledge of it. I guess there are some mediums we can use well, and others leave me behind.

I tried these cards today in water mixable oils and I ended it throwing them away. I just did not like them.

I am not giving up yet, I will try them in a different medium ... see what I can come up with.

02-08-2012, 08:43 AM
SunTrade -- I know what you mean. I've signed up for a 12-hour workshop in mixed media. Nearly every supply required is outside my comfort zone. The first class is this afternoon :swoon:

02-08-2012, 09:38 AM
This is what I always told my students...."no fear, no failure" Sometimes you make mistakes and something really beautiful comes out of it, and then you are saying oh no- how do I recreate my mistake???

Enjoy your class!!!!!!

02-08-2012, 02:30 PM
kat sounds like a lot of fun! Please share what you learn!

Sometimes I take college credits in arts, so I am challenge...like merithu says is the only way to better ourselves!

02-08-2012, 06:19 PM
It's going to be a challenge to share everything. Today we started with introductions, acrylics, various gel mediums, textures, composition priniciples, cultural/social themes, and everything else under the sun. My brain is full.

02-08-2012, 08:06 PM
Kat where did you signed up for this 12 hour mixed media class, sounds like fun...

Way cool! I PMed you.

02-24-2012, 07:46 PM
Yikes Kat, I see your instructions ask for a SASE with 64 cent stamp. But the new postage rate will require an additional cent = 65 cents. You'll need to be careful when mailing out the returns that there is enough postage. Here is what I wrote in another thread:

Postal rates in the U.S. are increasing on Jan. 22, 2012.

SASE envelopes for swaps that have the returns mailed after Jan. 21 will need the extra postage (44 cents goes to 45 cents), plus 20 cents more if the envelope weighs above an ounce due to the number of cards enclosed.

And swappers, keep the new amounts in mind when you send stamps to international hosts (for their later use), because current stamps will only be worth enough until Jan. 21.

New First-Class Mail pricing, effective Jan. 22, 2012:

Letters (1 oz.) 1-cent increase to 45 cents
Letters additional ounces unchanged at 20 cents
Postcards 3-cent increase to 32 cents
Letters to Canada or Mexico (1 oz.) 5-cent increase to 85 cents.
Letters to other international destinations 7-cent increase to $1.05

02-25-2012, 10:29 PM
Hmm, they way I understand it, my Postal Mistress said that the old stamps will be just fine because they are consider "FOREVER STAMPS" if you look on your stamps now there isn't a price on them. When they go up in price you can still use your old stamps without adding that penny to them. When you buy new stamps the price will be higher.

02-26-2012, 01:59 AM
Yeah, there's probably just a few of us that have old stamps left over. For example, I have a supply of 44 cent Hawaiian Rain Forest stamps because I like to use them for international mailings (or to those who collect stamps).

02-26-2012, 05:44 PM
..giggle..better keep it you have a collector item now ...giggle..
