What is Speculative Zoology?
It is trying to predict what animals will exist on the Earth in the future - whether it be 20 million years, 50 million years or 200 million years.

For this swap you will choose one current, extant animal (mouse, horse, pigeon, cockroach etc) and design three cards based on what it will look like in the future. You can choose whether to follow divergent evolution and create your cards based on adaptations to particular habitats/behaviour, or you can choose three different time periods and draw its descendents in say 20m, 50m and 200m years.

Whilst its evolution will be determined by the environment factors, I don't want you to feel too bogged down by the science - whether you decide the future world will be a waterworld or a desert, an immense forest or tundra, that's entirely up to you. don't stress too much about climate change and global warming. Well, at least not when creating these cards.

For inspiration:

Here is a deviantart group: http://neocene-project.deviantart.com/

And a Book
After Man : A zoology of the Future (http://www.amazon.com/After-Man-Zoology-Dougal-Dixon/dp/0312194331/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1326703268&sr=1-1)

Here's my rabbit evolutions - http://lemurkat.blogspot.com/2011/10/bunny-evolutions.html

ALL YOUR CREATURES MUST BE ORIGINAL. It is okay to gain inspiration from these sources, but please do not copy anything directly.

The back of the card should contain information including the name of the extant animal you have chosen as your descendent and relevant facts like how many years After Man, habitat and diet. Just a short passage to describe why your critter looks the way it does.

Please let me know what animal you intend to use as your ancestral species when you join up.

Now for the nitty gritty:
- Please sign up by posting on this thread. This allows me to better keep a track of who is doing what and also allows others to leave REP points later.
- I WILL NOT send you my address until you ask for it - this way I can monitor who has posted and who has not and don't get any surprises!
- I live in New Zealand. It can take anything up to two weeks - or longer, for mail to get to me (average is 7-10 days). Therefore, if your cards are not in the post by February 10th, they may not make it on time! I will wait a week for any cards in the mail prior to the 25th that have not yet arrived, but DO NOT post them on the 29th and expect them to make it in time. I reserve the right to return any overdue cards, untraded, to their creators.
- Please do your best work. Nothing rushed or messy and make sure all regular ATC guidelines are adhered to.
- Cards should be enclosed in a plastic sleeve. But if you can't get them, I do have spares.
- Please make sure your username and real name are on the back of your cards, also on your postal envelope AND address label.
- Please send a NEATLY PRINTED (hand or computer) address label. No envelopes required.
- Loose stamps, $1 US or money via Paypal is greatly appreciated (although I do have to Paypal fees on these). They are not necessary, but will help ease my burden of postage. The reason numbers are limited is because posting from NZ to anywhere else in the world is rather expensive ($2.40 per letter outside of Australia). Please no Western Union. I don't know what to do with them and neither does my bank.
- Hostess ATCs are greatly appreciated. Other bribes accepted too. Please no ephemera or craft scraps however, as I personally illustrate more than other crafts.
- Please ensure your cards are securely packaged and not just thrown into the envelope. Any 3-card holders or cardboard backings will be re-used in your returns.

Also, because my swaps have limited places - If you join up, do not withdraw and do not send in your cards, then you will receive a NEUTRAL feedback.

So, who wishes to join me in predicting the wildlife of our future?

01-17-2012, 08:21 AM
I'd love to do this

01-17-2012, 01:20 PM
Welcome Freedom - do you know what animal you are going to evolve yet?

01-17-2012, 03:16 PM
Sign me up, I have some ideas now let's hope I'll manage to make something good looking.

01-17-2012, 04:01 PM
Wow...what a great idea! I am going to lurk for now, but will be thinking about this!

01-18-2012, 04:13 AM
Welcome Lea and Debs (as a lurker) - I spot a pattern with the folks that sign up to my swaps ^^ Not that I mind one little bit!

I think I might evolve pigs this time.

01-18-2012, 05:54 AM
I'll go with hedgehogs evolving in different environments.

01-18-2012, 02:13 PM
Nifty, Lea! I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

I am now wondering if I should do cockroaches. I had invented some cockroach mutations for one of my novels - a small vampiric cockroach, a predatory hunter, a giant plant eater... But would anyone actually *want* cards featuring cockroaches?

01-18-2012, 03:23 PM
This is such an interesting idea - I would love to join! :D
I'd love to try with horses.

01-18-2012, 03:48 PM
Lemurkat your cards are so wonderful even cockroaches will be welcome (as long as you don't add any real ones as bonus).

01-18-2012, 03:55 PM
Welcome Clopina - horses should be interesting!

And thanks Lea - I am in fact capable of drawing cute roaches. Or I was, once.

01-19-2012, 04:35 AM
Welcome Claudzie - I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

01-19-2012, 09:48 AM
I'd like to give it a shot!
Think i'll go for foxes.

01-19-2012, 12:32 PM
WElcome aboard, ArtDuJunque - I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

01-20-2012, 01:39 PM
My cards are painted, I just need to add the back (here's the story so everyone can read the explanations).

Webfooted Hedgehog - The climate has become very rainy and wet worldwide. Earth is covered by swamps. Hedgehogs have grown webbed feet to avoid drowning.

Furry Hedgehog - Ice Age is back. Hedgehogs can appreciate Northern Lights. But to survive the cold fur has replaced spines on their backs.

Bare Hedgehog - Most part of the world has turned into a desert. Some hedgehogs have survived in havens. With the extreme heat they've lost most of their spines.

Shelled Hedgehog - Planet Earth has been invaded by hostile creatures from outer space. Caves are the only save place for hedgehogs. As protection from falling rocks and dropping water they've covered their back with a shell.

01-20-2012, 01:59 PM
Cute cards Lea!

01-21-2012, 09:07 PM
Done :-)

I did ethereal fox, from the point in the future where we won't have bodies, we'll just be manifestations of our advanced minds.
domesticated fox laying on his back waiting for belly rubs.
monkey fox with opposible thumbs residing in the mountains.
and for the post apocolyptic eradiated burning world there is ... Firefox!

01-22-2012, 12:13 AM
Sign me up. I love that book, After Man. Very interesting and creative
Let me do piggies. I've heard they're pretty hardy animals

01-22-2012, 05:03 AM
Okay, SMikell, pigs are yours - guess I shall have to do something else. I did sketch up some pigeons, but I reckon I'll stick with cockroaches.

Anyhow, welcome!

And ArtDuJunque - great cards - love the firefox concept ^^ All are lovely.

01-23-2012, 07:03 AM
Mailed my cards today.

01-23-2012, 09:56 AM
I'd love to sign up too, please. I'm considering doing mice.

01-23-2012, 01:43 PM
That would be awesome, Papermoon. Welcome aboard.

01-24-2012, 01:47 AM
Thanks :)

01-26-2012, 10:36 PM
Lea - you earn points for first cards in! You rock.

01-27-2012, 01:31 AM
These were fast!

01-29-2012, 12:36 AM
I would like to give this Theme a whirl...

My subject is a skunk.

01-29-2012, 03:04 AM
Oooh, skunkies! Welcome aboard, Iridescent888

01-29-2012, 12:26 PM
I would like to play if there is still room.

I would love to do hedgehogs if no one has asked for them. Small little animals will have to adapt, or be dinner

01-29-2012, 01:26 PM
Welcome Jennie - I knew you would like hedgehogs, but they were amongst the first to be claimed (and drawn - indeed, I've already got them). What's your second choice? And we've had someone choose mice as well, I'm afraid.

01-29-2012, 01:44 PM
I would like to play if there is still room.

I would love to do hedgehogs if no one has asked for them. Small little animals will have to adapt, or be dinner

Sorry for having drawn hedgehogs (maybe porcupines?)

01-29-2012, 02:17 PM
guinea pigs are another good option

01-29-2012, 03:15 PM
I think I'm going to choose Pygmy Jerboas. They are less than an inch long in the body and their tails are about 3 inches long. They bounce like kangaroos. Their little spindly legs are about 4 inches long. It is known as the world's smallest rodent. Is that good with you LemurKat

01-29-2012, 08:33 PM
I've really warred with myself on this one, but might I join? I'd like to do parrots!

01-30-2012, 02:05 AM
Of course you may, Son of Aquarius - welcome aboard - and good to finally have someone NOT drawing mammals!

Jennie - jerboas are fine. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

ArtduJunque - we've already got guinea pigs.

01-30-2012, 09:19 AM
Yeah! they are sooooo cute

01-30-2012, 02:21 PM
can i sign up if theres still room.... I'm toying between fish and spiders at the moment...

01-31-2012, 01:09 AM
Welcome Pixie - there is now only ONE space left!!!

For "Fish" and "spider" you will need to specify a certain species - or at the very least, a Family (ie: jumping spiders; sharks). I'm keen on spiders myself - indeed the next swap I host will be spider themed, I've decided.

01-31-2012, 02:00 AM
Hallo Kat,

I'm afraid I have to drop out of the swap.
My four month-old puppy died yesterday, and I am in no state to do any cards at the moment.
My apologies to you.

~ PaperMoon

01-31-2012, 02:29 AM
Aww, that's sad, Papermoon. Well, there's still a place here if you change your mind.

01-31-2012, 03:01 AM
Thank you, Kat. I appreciate it.

01-31-2012, 09:04 AM
Oh that is very sad papermoon! :(

Ooh I never thought of that...I shall have a big think and confirm my choices in a little while...

01-31-2012, 09:51 AM
Thank you so much, pixiecorpse. I appreciate it so much.

01-31-2012, 12:34 PM
Your very welcome papermoon, I couldn't even begin to know what your going through.

Ok I think I'm going to go with sharks...yes sharks.:D

01-31-2012, 12:36 PM
Sorry Papermoon

01-31-2012, 02:01 PM
Hallo Kat,

I'm afraid I have to drop out of the swap.
My four month-old puppy died yesterday, and I am in no state to do any cards at the moment.
My apologies to you.

~ PaperMoon

So sad, sorry to hear that.

02-01-2012, 02:17 AM
Thanks, m'dears. I am grateful for your sympathy...the house is awfully silent and empty now

02-01-2012, 01:05 PM
Not to change the subject because It's really hard to loose a fuzzy.

Has anyone other than Lea done any cards?

02-01-2012, 02:40 PM
I have seen foxes in the gallery.
By ArtDuJunque:

And Freedom119's Guinea pigs:

02-01-2012, 02:46 PM
Oh my those are wonderful. the fox on it's back is awesome. The dogs lie outside like that.

02-03-2012, 01:33 AM
Received some lovely foxes and guinea pigs in the mail today. Luckily they seemed to be getting along just fine!

I have a nifty idea for what I am going to do. As you can see from the first entry - it's now "top secret". ^^

02-03-2012, 08:22 AM
Yay top secret! I'm being like that with another swap but that's in case It doesn't work.
I'm still in the preparation stage of how my sharks will evolve have a couple thought out just need to get them done...
Love those foxes n guinea pigs super cute!

02-03-2012, 03:48 PM
They're awesome Claudzie - do you have bigger scans? I can't quite make out all the amazing details and it'll be at least a week until I see them!

02-04-2012, 11:17 AM
Those are some very creative ideas. I love them!

02-04-2012, 12:26 PM
Great wolves Claudzie. They are hunters and look it. Love them

02-04-2012, 06:47 PM
Sign me up please (horses and rats)

02-04-2012, 07:42 PM
I'm hoping to get in on this. Let me know :).

I'll probably do ... cats, of course.

02-05-2012, 06:41 AM
Kat, you're in! I've put you down for cats.

And you too Shewolf. Although horses have already been chosen by Clopina - and as all cards need to be based on the same base animal*, I'll put you down for rats, if that's okay.

And we're full, again!

(* except for me ^^ You'll see!)

02-05-2012, 01:34 PM
thats fine :)

02-05-2012, 01:42 PM
I and so waiting for what you are doing LemurKat

02-05-2012, 02:15 PM
Mine are coming along, bit stuck wanted 4 but having a block on the last one so hopefully by the time the rest are finished it should clear up nicely :D

02-05-2012, 02:22 PM
Oh those wolves are fantastic Clauditz
Wow and the descriptions are amazing, mines still in the thought process of wouldn't it be cool if I gave him ....
Need to think some more :D

02-05-2012, 02:48 PM
I'm trying to write the description first. Maybe I'm going at this backwards

02-05-2012, 03:00 PM
If anyone wants to make a bonus host card and can't extend their chosen creature into four forms, you're allowed to evolve lemurs for me ^^ Just make sure you label which one they are, in case it's not immediately obvious!

02-05-2012, 03:14 PM
I tried it backgrounds first but it got too complicated and far too technical so I switched it now I just have to make my descriptions match my crazy ideas hehe
Thanks for that lemurkat I shall bare it in mind in case I can't come up with a fourth for my sharks. :D

02-06-2012, 01:59 PM
I've added my herbivore shark and my flying shark to my gallery :D

02-06-2012, 03:15 PM
I love those, the one with the "bunny teeth" is just the best.

02-06-2012, 03:22 PM
Thank you! he's my favourite too :D

02-06-2012, 04:35 PM
He does seem to need braces, they both are so cute

02-06-2012, 05:31 PM
Hehe thanks jennie! You wait till you see my furry one :D he's almost finished

02-06-2012, 08:01 PM
I also like the full grid or smile!

02-07-2012, 12:53 AM
What does Herbivore shark eat? Kelp?
They're fun ^^

02-07-2012, 01:51 AM
I bet they nibble seaweed.

02-07-2012, 02:59 AM
Its a carrot in the picture, I'm thinking that all the other sealife have died in an unexplained accident and the sharks are left. so they've adapted to eat seaweed, and humans feed them fruit and vegetables.
Wow that explanation came easily :D

02-07-2012, 03:50 AM
I want that herbivore shark haha! :goofy: I love its bunny teeth XD
I've already done 2 of my horses, and I have an idea for the others, but now I just need to come up with a decent description. It's more difficult than I thought. XD

02-07-2012, 04:20 AM
Looking forward to seeing them, Clopina! I love your art.

02-07-2012, 05:59 AM
Can't wait to see them Clopina!
The descriptions are hard! Was surprised that one came to me as fast as it did. Just 3 more descriptions to go :D

02-07-2012, 07:14 AM
I had the ideas, the hardest part was to make it fit on an ATC sized card.

02-07-2012, 09:31 AM
I've finished mine! I thought to post the explanations too if someone would like to read them. :)

Icelandic Horse:
This horse evolved to live in a desertic ice-covered land; its fur grew longer to protect it from the cold and it assumed a white color to help the animal to camouflage. It's a solitary animal, but since there aren't many predators in this land, its major problem is to find enough food.

Predator Horse:
With the lack of vegetation in its area, while other horses moved away, the ones who stayed behind slowly started to adapt and evolve into a predator animal. Its spine grew more flexible, allowing it to jump higher than before and run faster, and its coat changed color to help it camouflage in the landscape. Its major prey are the birds the live in the same area, who mostly eat worms and seeds brought there by the wind.

Horse of the Desert:
This horse grew in size a bit, and its large ears help it protect against the high temperatures of the desert. It doesn't need camouflage because its size often discourages predators from attacking it. It lives in herds and move from a place to another to find food.

Sea Horse:
Like other sea mammals, it developed a breathing system that allows it to stay underwater for a little more than half an hour. They are pretty little in size, and they live in heards to protect themselves from predators and can swim pretty fast if attacked.

(i've found out only after naming it that it actually exist an horse breed called "Icelandic horse", but it's still a really different thing and I didn't have it in mind while drawing it - I didn't even know it existed haha! My apologies for my lack of fantasy on names. XD )

This was so much fun! And the descriptions actually came pretty easy after I finished them. : P I really hope you'll enjoy my cards as I enjoyed making them. I will pm you right now for your address lemurkat and then they'll be on their way! :D

02-07-2012, 10:07 AM
Clopina beautifully done cards

02-07-2012, 10:16 AM
Nice cards! Love the descriptions too!

02-07-2012, 10:40 AM
Fantastic cards Clopina, I wish I had fur like your Icelandic horse :D.

02-07-2012, 10:43 AM
Thank you so much everyone! :wubclub:
ihih lea - I wish that too! It would be appreciated with all this snow. XD

02-07-2012, 01:32 PM
Clopina - I love your cards!

02-07-2012, 03:59 PM
hehe yes I'm wondering how to fit everything on the back of my card too :D

Wow Clopina Fantastic cards!!!!

02-07-2012, 06:56 PM
Here are my rats of the future;
the tree loving rat who developed wings.
a water rat with webbed feet and flattened tail lives in the sewers and rivers exclusive.
A highly intelligent rat from the results of experimentations on rats over generations

02-07-2012, 07:15 PM
Shewolf so cool they're great

02-08-2012, 12:48 AM
Those are awesome, Shewolf! The brainy rat makes me smile ^^

02-08-2012, 01:26 AM
Gorgeous cards shewolf36!

02-08-2012, 05:00 AM
I love your highly intelligent rat shewolf! I just love how his fur looks like glasses, haha. :D
But your water rat is just so adorable.

02-08-2012, 06:20 AM
Awwww how cute are those rats! Great job shewolf! :D

02-08-2012, 02:42 PM
If you can't fit it all on the back of the card, add it onto a little piece of paper or card that slips in the sleeve with it.

02-09-2012, 09:03 AM
I am just crazy about the horses and rats...getting motivated here. Great work!

02-12-2012, 06:31 AM
heres all 4 in all their evolutionary glory.

Furry Shark
The waters depleted, the sharks evolved into land creatures. They grew fur to keep themselves warm in the winter.

Herbivore Shark
All the fish have died, sharks have evolved into herbivores. they now live off seaweed and vegetables humans throw into the water for them.

Spider Shark
With the waters shrinking, so did the sharks until they were as small as a human hand, they grew spider legs to escape the reclining waters and became a more feared foe than ever before.

Winged Shark
Not content to grow legs with the seas and oceans gone, this shark grew beautiful butterfly wings to help lure prey with its floating beauty.

02-12-2012, 09:45 AM
pixie, your spider shark will give me nightmares, haha! XD (I'm arachnophobic lol)
Joking aside, I love all of them! Especially the furry and herbivore ones :D

02-12-2012, 10:04 AM
Hehe thanks Clopina! I couldn't resist getting a spider in there somewhere...they scare me too :D

02-13-2012, 06:56 AM
Mine went postal this morning :D

02-13-2012, 09:01 AM
Pixie love your series!

02-13-2012, 09:11 AM
Thanks iridescent! Was a challenge :D

02-13-2012, 09:46 AM
Mine went postal this morning too! :D

02-14-2012, 04:38 PM
Alright story written for each, Pygmy Jerboas drawn. All set to color and spruce up. My information will be folded in the back. They got a bit long. In the end I really wanted these little guys to survive. I was on the computer deciding what they needed, to survive the changes of 600,000 years.

02-15-2012, 01:04 AM
Are you going to upload them? I wanna see them and I cannot wait a week or so ^^

02-15-2012, 09:18 AM
Absolutely soon as I finish the color. Looking a bit one dimensional right now

02-15-2012, 12:03 PM
I am working on my last card which weird as it sounds ends up being the first card in the story illustration. My story developed from middle to end to beginning. Those skunks have been real stinkers.

02-15-2012, 12:16 PM
Can't wait to see them jennie and iridescent!!! :D

02-15-2012, 01:39 PM
Stinkers huh Irides?

02-20-2012, 02:13 PM
here are the Stinkers and the Story:

First the Domesticated Skunk: Celebrities wanted the unusual for a price so designer wild animals were created. The stink glands were eventually able to be eliminated completely in the wild skunk and he became a designer pet living in the most posh environments The wild skunk became extinct.
Next: Skrunks Celebrities got bored with the skunks so they became available in pet stores where they eventually were reintroduced into the wild. This species evolved after years of breeding with wild rabbits and although the glands remained extinct the speed, eyesight and menu and reproduction mimiced the latter.
The Loners: The United States became infested with skrunks and tried to find a way to control the population. They were dumped in remote areas and evolved to climb...exceptional night vision and lived in twig and mud covered huts since they were rarely around humans.
Finally the Cannibals: After rejection and seclusion they began running out of resources...became blind and survival of the fittest was all they had to survive.

02-20-2012, 02:16 PM
Here they are

02-20-2012, 02:22 PM
Those skunks are fantastic iri!!!

02-20-2012, 02:42 PM
Wow Irid

02-20-2012, 02:48 PM
Those are neat. Although the last one is pretty vicious! I think my favourite is the domestic skunk. I'd keep one!

02-20-2012, 02:54 PM
What great skunks!

02-20-2012, 03:02 PM
I think that the first skunk should have been so domestic that it would drink StarBuckes

02-20-2012, 04:10 PM
I think that the first skunk should have been so domestic that it would drink StarBuckes

Thanks:  and for the compliments...

The viciousness just evolved Lemurkat...the one on the ground in the back is just sleeping.:goofy:

Received from Shewolf, Clopina and Pixiecorpse - lovely cards all of you!
Although I haven't opened yours yet Pixiecorpse - you've sealed them so well (but I know what they look like cos I saw your scans).

Thanks for the bonus cards CLopina and Pixiecorpse, and Thanks Shewolf for Hemlock. I am delighted to add him to my collection.

02-28-2012, 03:42 PM
glad they arrived safely! I have an obsession with making the little envelopes too :D

03-02-2012, 07:47 PM
Love it!

03-06-2012, 01:37 PM
I believe Iridescent's have arrived and are waiting for me to pick them up from my parents ^^

03-15-2012, 12:14 PM
My thick Tailed pygmy Jerboas, current day, 20,000 years later, 40,000 years later and 60,000 years later
Current day- very happy bouncing along at night for food
20,000 years in the future- the planet has continued to warm, very hot and humid. His fur is sparce to keep his skin dry and mold free.
40,000 years in the future- Continued planet warming, makes for a night time temperature of 130, now hairless and able to swim like a frog, and their bodies secrete a gel substance that keep them waterproof.
60,000 year's in the future- The planet had had a radical cool down fromvolcanic ash, tempuratures are now 10-20 degrees during the day when they now are active. Body color is dark but their fur is snow white.

03-15-2012, 02:43 PM

03-15-2012, 05:18 PM
LemurKat are you waiting for a dinner invite again?

03-15-2012, 09:07 PM
Are they mine?

03-15-2012, 09:30 PM
Yours arrived last week, Iridescent. Did I forget to mention it? Sorry! I got a bunch of post.

I did leave you feedback though, so I didn't entirely forget to mention it!

03-16-2012, 11:31 AM
Yes you did...and thanks for the reminder.

03-16-2012, 01:19 PM
Oh those are wonderful jennie and kat! I really should check in more often!!!

03-16-2012, 01:50 PM
Kat these are beautiful. I'm already excited about the returns. There are so many amazing cards in this swap.

03-16-2012, 03:00 PM
Put my cards in the mail today! Will post images in my gallery.

03-16-2012, 03:03 PM
It's a pretty awesome swap! I'm busy here too ^^ Done lots of lineart but gotta start colouring soon.

Just sent a message to Son in Aquarius, as he is the only member of this swap who has not yet asked me for an address. We're still two weeks out and it looks like everyone has been super-motivated to get their pieces done - that is nifty-neat indeed. Thank you all!

03-16-2012, 04:04 PM
kat and Jennie I love both of yours so cool to see how they morph their subjects.

03-16-2012, 05:14 PM
Awesome cards Kate and Jennie

03-16-2012, 06:05 PM
Card's went postal today. I hope you like them

03-16-2012, 06:49 PM
Well, I like the scans.

And your pigs are neat, SMikell.

03-16-2012, 08:12 PM
The cats are postal!

03-17-2012, 04:12 AM
Claudzie - your delightful cards are here! Thank you! Love the lemur-wolf.

I have now coloured four of the cards I have worked out and I really do want to share them, some of them are adorable. But you'll have to wait and see - I'm really proud of them so far, though.

Btw, as is typical in my swaps - I'm making one for everyone so all of you will receive one of my cards. This is so I can keep one from each of you. Since many of you have sent an extra hostess card, this should not be difficult at all.

03-17-2012, 08:43 AM
That is always such a wonderful treat in the envelope when we get returns.

03-17-2012, 05:07 PM
cats are postal.

03-18-2012, 12:40 AM
Wow lemur, that is so awesome!

03-18-2012, 03:47 AM
Wow that is a lovely thing to do!

03-18-2012, 05:22 AM
Okay.... I can't keep it secret anymore.

I've started posting your cards into my blog, after all, so I might as well make it public knowledge.

Going on the theory that most of you have chosen to evolve animals that you like, that you feel drawn to etc, etc, I decided not to do the same.

It's not easy to think of 11 different evolutions for lemurs after all.

No, what I'm doing instead is taking each of your creatures and doing my own evolution of it. Eleven (or twelve, I've lost count) different critters. Of course, I had to wait until you completed yours to make sure I did not copy them directly, although I think in some cases I may have adapted them to the same habitat type.

Anyhow. First off is my favourite (so far):
For Freedom119 - http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=291211

03-18-2012, 06:23 AM
Wow! Such a cute guinea pig :D

03-18-2012, 09:17 AM
Guinea pings face is wonderful.

03-18-2012, 01:50 PM
And for Claudzie - The bearwolf - http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=291325

03-18-2012, 02:20 PM
He's the size of a polar bear. So I hope you have a big yard!

03-18-2012, 03:56 PM
He wouldn't fit through the dog door. We'd need a few more thousands of years to breed them down or have evolution take place

03-18-2012, 09:32 PM
Ok, Claudzie the point might have been that he would eat first the dumb dog that would wander up to say hi, next would be the Chiweenie growling and snarling to protect me (yeah I let her think that all 16 pounds of her is all the protection I need.) And then it would eat me.

03-19-2012, 02:42 AM
Haha, I'd forgotten that - I saw the previews too - but mine's more wolfish. I'd like to think he has some caucasian mountain dog in him too.

03-19-2012, 01:00 PM
love it

03-19-2012, 01:36 PM
Pygmy Pony for Clopina - http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=291558

03-19-2012, 02:08 PM
Oh I definitely like Lemur's Bear wolf beter than the avatar one.

Clopina the pygmy pony's is just darling.
That's why I chose the thick tailed Pygmy Jerboa to do. I got to write pygmy a bunch of times. It's really a funny looking word, and it sounds like something on wild Americas, Now we see the pymgy tribe is sustained by the pygmy jerboas which they use for bait to fish for the pygmy whales in there streams. See what a fun word it is

03-21-2012, 04:44 AM
Okay, the others I have done so far are up in my gallery now. Got another three inked and two sketched. Then I might do the parrot one anyway. Although I have not heard back from Son in Aquarius. I'm thinking budgiraptors.

03-21-2012, 11:13 AM
The skunk us happy and loved by me Lemukat...

Very special.

03-22-2012, 07:55 PM
Received Jennie's Jerboas today!

But I am afraid I must reiterate - PLEASE send an address label! The last two letters I have received have not had them... I thought I had a spare one of Jennie's around (left over because I doubled up her returns last time), but I seem to have lost it. I should be able to get the addresses off the envelopes, or by PMing the two senders, of course, but it is still nice to receive full sized, neatly written (or printed) address labels.
Thank you!

03-22-2012, 08:00 PM
I'm so sorry! I just got so excited because they were what was in my mind! I'd blame the asthma and bronchitis but I wasn't on this cough syrup then, I'll pm you. I'm sorry

03-24-2012, 05:32 AM
No worries, you're forgiven! It wasn't/isn't a big deal really, just a couple of seconds extra work for me.

Now, I'm going to stop cross posting my beasties everywhere - if you wish to see them as I create them, click this link that will take you to my blog:
Where I have set a tag to show just the Spec Zool critters.

Today I added the Jerboa, and the cat is also up now.
Fox was finished, but I don't like it, so I think I'll draw it again.

03-24-2012, 09:42 AM
I love the jerboa his feet are exactly what I want them to look like and kept getting mouse toes.

03-24-2012, 10:23 AM
The blog looks awesome lemurkat! I've bookmarked it on my phone and will keep looking at all the awesome cards!!!

03-26-2012, 05:02 AM
Okay, the pig and the fox are now up.
That leaves just the parrot and the shark to be done.

I have received cards from Kat and SMikell, so I believe now that I am just waiting on Son in Aquarius, whom I believe will be posting his tomorrow. Maybe we can make the deadline this time ^^

03-26-2012, 05:20 AM
Ooh very excited!!! And they are fantastic!!!

03-26-2012, 08:53 AM
Can not wait to see the parrot colors!

03-26-2012, 09:05 AM
Yea! I'm glad my piggies have arrived.

Great cards, lemurkat!

03-26-2012, 08:53 PM
Augh. I just opened up my scanned file of my ATCs and discovered the scanner only got about 1/3 of the way through them. Can you scan them when they land in your hands? Thanks bunches!

03-27-2012, 12:37 AM
I sure can. Just remind me at the time!

03-27-2012, 06:02 AM
I haev just uploaded the last two of my critters - the sharkray and the budgiraptor ("pirahna of the sky"). Visit: http://lemurkat.blogspot.co.nz/search/label/speculative%20zoology to see them!

Once I receive the parrots, I shall trade these out.

03-27-2012, 06:50 AM
Wow! Lemurkat! Love the shark!!! I tried to leave a comment but my google account seems to not like me today!
And wow! Thank you for going above and beyond!!!

03-27-2012, 01:31 PM
Oh, I had a blast creating these!

Not sure if I'll be adding one of mine to the gallery though.

03-27-2012, 03:26 PM
Wow the new ones are wonderful

03-27-2012, 09:06 PM
Love the fox, too cute!

03-31-2012, 11:06 AM
I love your stories about your creatures Lemurkat so much imagination!

04-02-2012, 05:46 AM
Critters are currently all spread out on my coffee table waiting for the parrots to come and join them. Then I shall have to decide which ones to scan for the swap gallery.

04-02-2012, 12:18 PM
EEEEEE we will get cards back soon!!!!!

04-02-2012, 12:25 PM

04-07-2012, 03:11 AM
Mail to NZ takes a wee while!

04-07-2012, 07:52 AM
Mail on the West Coast can take a while to any where sometimes :P I've had letters get to NYC faster than they got to Bellingham (a city on the US/CAN border) :P

04-07-2012, 03:53 PM
These will be posted tomorrow, or maybe tuesday, because I believe monday is also a public holiday.

I had a lot of fun hosting this swap, and I love the range of creative critters that have come through it. Thank you for your generosity - most artists sent a bonus card, and they now look lovely in my binder!

I should have left feedback for all of you. If I haven't, please kick me! Your returns should take 7-10 days to arrive and when they do please leave an itrader feedback for me and rep for anyone you receive cards from. It is always nice to know where they go!

Thank you all, you've been awesome!

And you can see how awesome you really are, cos the gallery is up now: http://www.atcsforall.com/swap245.php

04-09-2012, 09:19 AM
Eeee I can't wait to see my returns! All cards posted here were so awesome, and I'm sure I'll love anything that comes in. :D

And of course, I must have missed your posts lemurkat, but your Pygmy Pony was such an awesome surprise! He's just so fluffy and cute. Thank you so much for that and for hosting this swap, I had really a lot of fun drawing for it. :D

Off leaving iTrader and rep points now!

04-21-2012, 07:46 AM
I made the mistake of using a return envelope from my insurance company for this swap. So much for recycling! The envelope had a bar code on it, so it went directly to the insurance company. Luckily, they sent the cards on to me.

Thank you to lemurkat for hosting & for the terrific "Gliding Cat" and also to Copina for "Sea Horse", Irisdescent888 for "Skrunk", and to SMikell for "Burrowing Pig". Each one is very special.

I did wonder about that. I should have covered it up. I guess it was on the wrong side to cover it up with the stamp - or the stamp/address label just wasn't big enough. Glad you got them!

04-21-2012, 09:24 PM
Checked my mailbox and lo and behold, there they were!

Got the predatory Running Pig from SMikell, the Winged Rat from Shewolf30, the Winged Shark from Pixiecorpse, and the adorably evil Budgiraptor from Lemurkat! Awesome work, guys!

04-22-2012, 02:59 AM
Only Shewolf's left, and I think she's taking time off site, so that's a wrap and this swap can be closed!

No wait, I haven't heard back from Irridescence either. Might wait another 24 hours, just in case the want to comment on the thread!

04-26-2012, 08:34 AM
I have been out of town for a month...and returned late last nite...I haven't located all my mail yet but will surely leave I trader and rocks asap
I can't wait to draw again

Thanks so much

04-26-2012, 08:59 AM

I got the frosty Icelandic horse from Clopina, felis catus larney's thumbed type from Kat, canyon hounds by Claudzie, and my slink from Lemurkat. What a great start to my day...

They are amazing :notworthy:

I trader and rocks to follow.

04-26-2012, 04:06 PM
Awesome! All reported in except Shewolf's, so time to close the swap!

Thanks guys, this one was awesome.
