I hope this is the right forum to post this so if the moderator thinks it goes somewhere else pm me and let me know. My class is making paper dolls to take a country and worldwide tour. We will be making paperdolls representing each child. I will then send them to different locations and have the person in that location take a picture of the dolls by a favorite landmark. It is kinda like the expedia troll. If anyone is interested in hosting the dolls please let me know.

Very cool...Actually Amish country is great! We are making the dolls next Sunday and their first visit is Chicago. One of our friends is fighting lymphoma and is in Chicago for stem cell therapy. We are hoping to provide a distraction for him. What I'll do is include a SASE TO Washington DC if that is ok with you WOC and then another SASE back to me. WOC I will PM you.

If the dolls would like to travel to the state of Washington I'd love to take them sightseeing. They could visit a Zen Buddhist monastery on Whidbey Island, tour the Space Needle in Seattle, or the Boeing plant in Everett. Just let me know so I can clean my house and be ready for them!
PS: No need to send a SASE. Just send me an address where I can return them after the whirlwind sightseeing tour.

If you feel brave enough to let them travel overseas, I'm happy to show them a little glimpse of England! I can head off to somewhere like Canterbury- or maybe see if I can sneak in a trip to London (I'm not that far by train- about an hour away!)
I'll understand if you're not comfortable with letting them leave their homeland though!

Are these guys traveling as a group or do they each get their own itinerary?

art4mysanity
04-05-2008, 01:39 PM
KatieV, you sound like a concerned travel agent - maybe they prefer escorted tour groups versus "explore on your own." :biglaugh:

Anyway, did Ilmskyma say she was going to do Gainesville and South Florida? I'd be happy to show the dolls Miami, South Beach, and the Everglades if not.

j4mi3
04-05-2008, 08:00 PM
They are a group. They leave on Monday. I will keep the "tour guides" informed through pm's to keep them going! You guys are so wonderful to help on this project. Maybe more should get involved. I know I have always wanted to travel but never had the money. I could sure use some of that Miami sun! That is one thing I miss about living in Miami...the beach...I used to go to Crandon beach a lot though. I'll put the Everglades and South beach on the itinerary.

I can participate too, if you'd like--South Carolina is less glam than some of the other locations, but we're here! I can go to the capital building (and avoid catching the confederate flag in the shot, of course!), or to the Congaree National Park.

They can come to Scotland too and if they'd like a detour to South Africa, I can send to family there!

A quick question do you want digital photos or hard copy photos? :)

blueskysunburn

Ooh, that's a good question. I didn't think about hard copies.

j4mi3

Okay, I'm totally jealous of these dolls - Australia, Scotland, South Africa, South Carolina...and the list goes on...ah if only I were two dimensional (deep sigh.)

KarenM
04-16-2008, 04:37 PM
I totally agree!!! I have never been outside the USA!! Love my country but would love to see the world...well parts of it , anyway...ahhhh I guess I will eventually see it from heaven...that's my plan, and I 'm sticking to it!! :)

art4mysanity
04-16-2008, 04:52 PM
Hey KarenM - never say never - you don't know when an opportunity might arise for you to travel. I've never been to Europe and I am dying to go - I'd also love to go to Australia one day but I have been to China. One day my son, a martial arts student who was in high school at the time said to me, I wish I could see the Shaolin monks doing Kung Fu. On impulse, I looked up on the internet and found a site that worked like Ebay but for travel packages. I was able to go to Beijing China with him and it cost me about same as a 10 day stay at Disney (which btw, I hate so ironically I live relatively close to all these theme parks.) I say you'll see the world from Heaven and here on Earth too.

KarenM
04-16-2008, 05:11 PM
I hope you are right!! At the moment , I would settle for the beach..I actually see that in my future and a day at the beach is almost heaven :)

Hi,

How about adding Bonnie Scotland to the tour?

I could follow on from Frog Princess (England) and would be happy to then ship them back to the US, or elsewhere.

I am in England too - but I live in the heart of the peak district - which has some brilliant photo opportunities - Chatsworth House, Bolsover Castle etc etc. I would be more than happy to take them on a little tour in my open top sports car. x x

I would love to host the dolls in Michigan if there is still time. Are they on a long trip without time limits? My little town features three county courthouses still standing. The only county in Michigan that does. Perhaps the only county in the USA. The earliest was built in 1845, the middle in 1885, and the latest, in 1976. I think they would enjoy having their pictures taken in all three courthouses on the same day. In fact, my town is so small they could have their pictures taken at all three courthouses within a half hour. Let me know.

LOL Lini, if it's that small, why does it need three courthouses?

lini

Good question - the answer! We have a lot of criminals!

No, that's not it! We just keep outgrowing them and have been lucky to be able to keep the two oldest as museums. Both are on the Michigan Register of Historic Places, the 1885 (middle one) is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the newest one is in use.

And, my town is the county seat. We only have abouit 8,000 residents. Come visit us and I'll show you around.

Have we got a list of where the dolls are going, so we can kind of figure out when they might arrive? I'd like to be waiting for them at my mailbox when it gets close for them to be visiting Phoenix!

Bluellen

I still have your dollies! I am struggling thru some lifestyle changes here (separation and possible divorce) but please rest assured....I will get these guys over to fenway park and harvard university and the swan boats when I can and then they will be on their way to their next desitnation! Miss you guys!
