If you think 3 heads are better than one when it comes to making ATCs this is the place for you.

We are a fun group of ATC makers who like to spread the making of ATCs around to more than one person.

Here is how to get started……………..

First you sign up in the thread and tell us what themes you do not want so I can add your name to the list in the 1st post along with what not to send you.

Next you PM your mailing address to me so I can add it to the address list. I will update this list as players come and go or change their status.

If you wish to take a break from playing at any time all you need to do is post in the thread or send me a pm. I will put a HOMERS ONLY next to your name until you ask me to change it. This way you will still get any you have started that have been completed by others but you should not get any new ones. If you do get new ones, please let me know in a pm.

And here is how a Round Robin works…………

Player 1 starts it off by starting 3 cards. These cards need to be more than a preprinted background. Please put something on them. On the back please put ATCS FOR ALL at the top (so we know where it came from) along with at least your user name. Mail all 3 cards to Player 2.

Player 2 will work on the cards. Add at least your user name to the back. Mail all 3 cards to Player 3.

Player 3 will finish the cards. Add at least your user name to the back. Keep 1 card and mail the other 2 back to Player 1.

Player 1 will keep 1 card and mail the other one to Player 2.

VERY IMPORTANT ~ Please note you must look at the first post before sending cards to anyone to make sure they are still playing.

EQUALLY IMPORTANT ~ Please check what cards a player DOES NOT WANT. Do not send unwanted themes to anyone as they must pay to send them on to someone else .

If you get a set of cards and you have no idea what to do with them, just send them on to someone else.

Part of the fun of being in a Round Robin is seeing who is doing what so when you receive a Round Robin and when you mail them out please try and remember to post here. Although there will be no Round Robin Police sent to visit if you don't! And you never have to say who you are sending to unless you want to.

Feel free to post eye candy whenever you want.

And last but not least…………

iTraders are fun to give and get so please remember them. Once you have a completed card you can give them to both the other players.

WE HAVE A NEW PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!

Can you tell I'm excited?

Welcome to TF Balding!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to come back later tonight and update the list and get a new improved address list out to everyone as I think I have heard from all the current players I am going to.

I asked if it was ok for any of us to send pms to friends and ask them to join. It is so start thinking of friends you might want to join and either send them an invite or send me the names and I will invite them.

My dream is to have a big group of players to hand back to Chardonnay1965 when she comes back to this.

Thank you all!

I'll play! Add me to the list. As for what I don't like... nothing holiday, cutesy/ scrap-booking, or with baby animals. Otherwise, I'm game!
I have a question too-- If I start out making 3 cards, do I select Player 2 from the list as my choice, or must we go in some order? I'm guessing it's an artist choice/ pick from the list, but I just want to be sure.
This sounds really fun.

Yes, you select player 2 and they select player 3.

When I 1st joined someone started a card they thought 2 of us would like to play on so they sent my name to player 2 as a suggestion.

The only rule for selecting who to send to is you can't send to someone who has homers only by their name.

Another thing........you can use the list to make buddy cards with just you and another person making 2 cards.

The main thing is to have fun with this.

I really want to find the time to update the lists and send them to everyone. I would do it tonight but I am so tired I am typing most of this twice.

Keep spreading the word and inviting your friends. The bigger the group the more fun we can all have.

And if there is something you don't want to see on a JAM card please post it here so I can put it by your name on the list.

OK, so, does #1 player only do the background?
how do you choose who to send to?
how do you make sure everyone gets a chance?
if I start a new JAM, it says "for your 1st ones, you are limited to 2" what does that mean?
(I can only start 2 new ones?)

thanks for sharing

OK, so, does #1 player only do the background?

you can or you can put a little something on them as long as you leave enough room for 2 other people to add something

how do you choose who to send to?

you may send to whoever you want. I usually make sure they have been on recently. If you have favorites you like you can send only to them. There is no rule on sending.

how do you make sure everyone gets a chance?

Since there were so few of us before it was not a problem. Now I am not sure. I plan on keeping track of who I send to and making it a different person each time. I suppose if you want cards you can post in the thread letting everyone know you are open to getting some. You might get lots that way............

if I start a new JAM, it says "for your 1st ones, you are limited to 2" what does that mean? (I can only start 2 new ones?)

I put this because it was on the write up from Char.

Does anyone who has been doing this for longer than me see any reason why our new players should be limited to 2? I would think they could send out as many as they want to keep track of. If we limit them to 2 then they are at the mercy of 4 other players until those 4 get the cards back to them.

Either comment here or in private in a pm to me if you are not comfortable "talking" in public.

Thank you all!

I am about ready to jump in too...but have one more question....Are all three of them supposed to be alike? meaning if I am #1, do I make 3 of the backgrounds alike? if I am # 2 and #3 do I add the same images to all three cards...That might be difficult for me, as I prefer to collage and finding 3 images alike would be almost impossible.....

TF Balding
05-20-2012, 04:57 PM
I don't see how that would be much fun... I HD almost everything and don't enjoy replication...

mrubyjean
05-20-2012, 05:52 PM
Yes, the point is to make them alike so all three people get similar cards.

That said, a lot of people, myself included, have broadened 'similar cards' to be related cards not exactly the same.

xstitcher
05-20-2012, 07:54 PM
What mrubyjean said!

I add the same thing to each one but as long as they are similar and look sort of like a set it should be ok.

If someone gets them and does not want to work on them they can always send them on to someone else!

xstitcher
05-21-2012, 08:41 PM
The last list I sent was up to date except for Nancy who had not committed yet. I will be taking care of that soon.

Unless anyone who didn't reply to my 1st post has moved all the addresses are good.

Since no one has commented on the limit of 2 starters to begin with I am going to go out on a limb here. I will remove that line from the beginning and hope it does not come back ro bite me in the you know where.

Let's all just be mindful of who we are sending to and try not to oversend to anyone else.

If anyone feels they are getting overwhelmed let me know and we can put you in a homers only status until you are caught up.

The most important part of this whole group is to have fun with it.

I never even thought about it. Just thought of it as kinda like a jam session w/ a few people working together to get it done. Love your description though. When I started jamming there were no round robins. There was only one card that went out and the person that started it then made photocopies and sent them back to the other two. I'm not sure but I think it was our Maggie that came up w/ the RR concept. Whomever it was I'm glad they did because I didn't care for getting the photocopies. Originals are much better.

CynthiaSillitoe
05-29-2012, 01:14 PM
That was my understanding of jams...that it was like musicians jamming. Sometimes they were three and sometimes four players, and the person who started them then sent copies. I think things shifted more to round robins so that each person would get a "real" card (though most jams were high-quality copies) and also saved the step of getting them copied. RRs seem to have better odds of everyone getting returns.

Xstitcher, when you have time, would you update the first post to say by my name what Maggie says....just send me anything. Thanks!

And I'm getting these cards that I received from TF and Big Toe in the mail to #3s. (Sheesh, I think I got so much in my right brain in the studio that I'm having trouble putting words together. Hopefully, I am making some sense.)

If you are the second person you may send them to anyone on the list who does not have homers only by their name.

If you are the third person you send 2 back to the 1st person and keep 1 for yourself.

A Question
Someone has asked me what kind of cardstock to use when starting cards.

Since I have never started cards I am not sure. I went to Michaels and bought what they call cardstock to start some I have plans for, but other than that I have no idea so I thought I would ask the question to our "experts"!

So Ladies and Gents what do you all use as backing when starting cards? Please share your ideas with us all. Thank you!!!

trini70
06-01-2012, 11:22 AM
I just use plain old cardstock (scrapbook paper) most times. I use my judgement if I think it needs backing for more support. Heck, I even cut up the covers of cards that I get atcs sent to me in, when I like them, and use 'em for backgrounds.

trini70

I really like watercolor paper for card foundations, but I do WC, and so always have scraps on hand.
If you really want to be sturdy, get scarp mat board-they usually have scraps at michaels or anywhere they do framing.

Wonderful sets, odd!

Yes, when you are the third artist, you keep one card, send the other two cards to the person who started the jam and give iTraders to both other artists who worked on the cards.

Finishing the sequence of events here...when the artist who started the jam receives the two "homers", that person keeps a card, sends the final card to the second artist and leaves iTrader for both other artists. And when the second (middle) artist receives the last card, that person gives iTrader to the other two jammers.

Yes you keep one and send the other 2 back to player 1.

And you leave iTraders for the other 2 players who worked on the card. When they get them back they will leave 1 each for you.

I have been so busy I haven't been here for a couple of days.

I have some cards to work on but it may be another week before I get to them.

This thread is really alive again and I am loving it.

All our new buddies are really getting into it. I am seeing lots and lots of fantastic cards being posted.

Hope everyone one is having a good time. If you can think of anyone who would like to play along invite them.............we can always use more players.

I have a couple of sets I need to finish up by putting my cross stitched piece on them and 2 sets I need to stitch something for.

If they don't get done today or tomorrow I will take the stithcing ones on my trip and if I get them stitched will finish them all next week and get them out.

And I am still working on the ones I want to start myself. I have the cardstock and some of the patterns stitched. I think those will go on the trip, too.

Speaking of my trip, I posted in the members doing whatever, but I will say here also. I am leaving tomorrow night, June 13 and will be back sometime on Sunday June 17. Going to Texas to see my moms family and bond with the siblings for a few days. We have not been anywhere just the 4 of us since we rode in the family car to the church and that was only 20 mins or so. I am really looking forward to this.

Jerry is staying home and my daughter will be in and out so any fun mail that comes will be waiting on my craft table when I get back.

OK everyone I have added a couple of lines to the Player 1 instructions.

Player 1 starts it off by starting 3 cards. These cards need to be more than a preprinted background. Please put something on them. On the back please put ATCS FOR ALL at the top (so we know where it came from) along with at least your user name. Mail all 3 cards to Player 2.

Part of the jamming experience is adding your own touches. If all you are doing is sending out a preprinted 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 piece of paper we don't see what you are all about.

If anyone has a question about what they want to start you can post it in the thread and we can discuss it.

Questions or concerns about the above posting can be discussed in private or here in the open forum.

Thanks all.

I would like to start a discussion if I may…………………

When we began recruiting new members someone asked if all 3 cards had to be the same.

There was not much said either way about it.

Just for something to talk about I would like to know what you all think so here are a few thoughts and questions to stimulate some conversation.

Do you have strong feelings either for all 3 being the same or all 3 different?

What degree of different, if any, are you OK with?

Have you ever been tempted to not work on a set and send them on to someone else only because they are all 3 the same or all 3 different and not because you can’t think of something to add?

Would you like to have your preference known by adding it to the list on page 1.

Any and all comments are welcomed! Just post what you fel comfortable saying as there is no righ or wrong answers.

TF Balding
07-18-2012, 08:57 PM
I'm ok with it either way, as long as they don't have to be identical. Since i'm doing most of my stuff HD/HP i get really bored doing the same exact thing more than once. I like doing things similar as a set, but i like doing things completely random & different, too. It really just depends on what's already on the cards and how the mood hits me.

Ps. I owe some folks itraders & have every intention to catch up on those tonight! (Remind me soon if i keep forgetting! I bet you know who you are!) ;)

I am not fond of assembly-lined cards, but I do appreciate when all the cards look like a set and not totally random. And, yes, I have sent sets onto other people because all three were identical. Not my style, but I can understand why a group would choose to do that; if they're all wanting the same card. I think you're spot on when you say there are no right or wrong ways to jam!

CynthiaSillitoe
07-19-2012, 12:12 AM
I can rarely manage exact. Usually mine are variations on a theme, but that's partly because that's how the cards usually seem when I get them. I wouldn't object to the cards being totally different.

Just a quick post to let you know I have made some changes to page 1.

Since I don’t always remember to post the comings and goings of my cards and it does not seem to make any difference I changed the wording from ……..

When you receive Jams and mail them out please post here. You never have to say who you are sending to though.

To…………..

Part of the fun of jamming is seeing who is doing what so when you receive Jams and when you mail them out please try and remember to post here. Although there will be no JAM Police sent to visit if you don't! And you never have to say who you are sending to unless you want to.

Next a friendly reminder to ALWAYS look at a players likes and dislikes before you send anything to them. Things do change and we all need to be respectful of our fellow players.

As always if you have concerns, comments or questions you can address them here or in a pm to me and they shall be considered and dealt with.

kentuckydakota
07-19-2012, 03:22 PM
I have been lurking for a bit and I have a question. Does the first person always do a background and the second a main focus and the third detail work? Or is it the other way? Or is it just random?

xstitcher
07-19-2012, 04:11 PM
The only requirement is the 1st person needs to do more than send a 2.5 x 3.5 card cut from cardstock or whaterver. They need to do something to it, be it paint a background on plain paper or or add something to the cardstock or background paper they use. THey do need to keep in mind 2 more people need to put their mark on it.

Persons 2 and 3 add whatever they want to make it better.

Of course person 2 needs to keep in mind one more person will be adding something.

kentuckydakota any time you want to end your lurking status and become a member of the group we welcome you.

Anyone have anything to add to my explantion please do. Somtimes I miss the forest for the trees..................

It is kinda strange but knowing this swapper, she is kinda flaky. It fits her to just send me 3 jams, and no explanation or note. I will post photos tomorrow cause I was pretty thrilled with the results.

What a fun-tastic jamming week for me...I received 4 great homers and 4 sets to be number 2, that I hope to have back in the mail Tues....I am having trouble with the ITraders..Help!...What is the key to orgazining them???? Do you just wait until you get homers and then give ITrades to the other two that worked on the card? That sounds simple and easy but does that get everyone!! Be patient with me, you will get yours when I figgure it out!!1

xstitcher
07-22-2012, 11:19 PM
I give iTraders when I am the 3rd person as soon as I send the cmpleted ones back to the starting player.

When I finally start some I will give iTraders when I get the completed ones back from the 3rd player.

Glad to see everyone is having fun.

I wish our "homers only" players could come back and join us.

I have some I have been working on. A couple are ready to go out. One a homer and one to a 3rd player.

I hope to get more organized at home so I can have more stitch time soon. School will start soon and that should help alot.

CastleQueen you can send them to anyone you want, just make sure you cjheck the list for "don't likes" firsts.

Other than there and "homers only" players you can send them to anyone.

Of course it is OK to ask her and for anyone to say "Hey send them to me!", too.

Going to interrupt the fun for a friendly reminder…………………it has been called to my attention players are still getting things that are on their DO NOT SEND ME LIST.

Since I have no offenders names I cannot send correspondence from the Continuous Random Jam Police, from this day forward known as CRJP, with a please do not do that request so I am forced to once again say it from here.

Please check page 1 before sending out cards to anyone. Even if you think you know what they want look at the list as things do change from day to day. I know this because I am the one who changes them. I try to remember to note here if I do make a change that does not affect the address list but sometimes I forget.

I know we are all excited about sending cards to each other and in our excitement we might forget to check out page 1 so I am thinking about redoing the address list to include the information from page 1 as well.

Comments or suggestions……………………

The downside is it is more to look through when sending out cards but on the upside we can see what the person does or does not want and it may keep me from having to type these words ever again.

If no one has any other ideas hopefully this weekend I can redo and get a new list out to all.

If anyone has a better idea I am open to it as sometimes I fail to see the forest for the trees………. Know what I mean……..

You could make a link to our preferences with our names on the players list on the 1st page so that we could go to that post ourselves & edit our own preferences as they change (way less work for our wonderful hostess in the long run). And ALL OF US just need to Commit to checking preferences BEFORE we mail... just a thought...

Ps. If i'm the offending party i deeeeeply apologize. Don't ever be afraid to drop me a pm& let me know, ok?

I like the idea of having all the info in one place. I'm on "homers only" but have sent some buddy cards and round robins out. I even got a new set to work on but it didn't bother me. Anyway, it is kind of a hassle to go back and forth between the two lists when choosing who to send to. I know you're busy Mary Ann and we'll work it out one way or the other.

Anytime you want your "homers only" removed just let me know.

OK, here goes. I will try to be brief.
1) this is done on light Srtathmore watercolor paper ( the logo is very faint so I cant read it -it is "aqua----") I did the class in 2001, so cant remember ) I have never tried it on 140# reg. WC paper.
this usually works best if you do the lightest color 1st, and add med. and then darker colors

2) paint whole sheet with one color liquid or thinned down tube acrylics--let dry

3)paint whole sheet with another color , while still wet lay down saran wrap, bubble wrap, anything that will make a texture--leave it on, let dry..remove saran etc.

4)repeat #3 with a third color and more texturing let dry. remove

5) do a 4th color, if desired

6 It can be used just like this-the colors and textures are unlimited
OR
take a good look and see if you see shapes you would like to bring out. use colored pencils to enhance shapes, or color dark behind them to bring them out.

cant seem to upload the pics I want to share--they are on my blog

Thanks for sharing big toe studio!

I have decided I need more hours in my day.

I found some cards I need to work on or mail on if I can't. So if you have sent cards to me and don't have them back yet, that is probably why.

I need to declare this weekend, stitching only and the rest of the world needs to leave me alone. I am anxious to see how well that works................

Xstitcher i'm curious... how do you add your art to the cards? i waited a long while before i sent you any because i wasn't sure what type of background to send. (if the set i sent is problematic for ya, feel free to pass them on. i won't be offended) :v_spin:

CynthiaSillitoe

Does anyone want starters with crayon backgrounds? (I know, I don't have to ask, but not everyone likes crayons.) Basically, I've done a "wash" (no water) that's layers of blues on one set and layers of orange and red on another. Let me know. (And take my advice, scan them in the plastic sleeve. Once you get crayon flakes on a scanner, they never come off.)

Tomorrow I may have some fingerpainted backgrounds available, too.

BigToe, I'm going to have to try that technique...very, very cool.

Glad you asked! This way if anyone does not like the sound of this they know not to send to me and you might want to mention to the 2nd person not to send to me either.

I cross stitch whatever I want to add then back them with heat n bond, cut them out close to the stitching like stickers and iron them on.

If I think the backing can't take the heat, for example crayon backgrounds, I have some really good glue I use. Learned that part the hard way. Lucky I was the 3rd person so I kept my mistake!

I have lots of colors of cloth and thread counts so I take the background and color scheme into consideration when I stitch. With different counts of cloths I can make pictures bigger or smaller, more detailed or sort of simple.

Sometimes I need to send something on when I don't think a sticker looking thing is appropriate, but most of the time I can complete them.

I have a couple ready to send on so let me see if I can at least post them to my gallery (not sure without looking somewhere how to post to thread) so everyone can see them!
