Anyone interested in hosting an inchie a-thon? I have never hosted but can help mind the thread...*crossing fingers*

I'd love to participate, but don't have time to host. I think athons are always on a weekend right? I work saturdays, so wouldn't be here to host anyways. But, If there is one, I'd love to make some inchies in my down time for it! :D Subscribing to this thread.

Artfest is June 13 – 17, and there's usually a ATART during that time.

Luckily for me, Robin has begun an inchie swap, lol. And I will be working on trading inchies 1-1... I'll be keeping my eyes open for an inchie-athon, though, and will be glad to co-host (with direction).

What does the host of an a-thon do anyways?....

Donnacr
05-12-2012, 04:22 AM
The Host books the dates with Carole Cadek in the Athon thread http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4712 The Host then opens the official thread (often there is a pre-thread to check interest levels), tries to drum up participants (awfully hard to do with the enthusiasm shown in this thread :spinny:) and keeps the thread moving with encouragement and LOTS of comments on the cards/Inchies being shown.
After the Athon closes you remind people to send returns out as quickly as possible and that they owe iTrader for these as they are all 1-to-1 swaps (even if you end up sending more than that in your envelope).

At least that is what I did when I ran the Post-Christmas Athon earlier this year.

If people would like I would be happy to Host an Inchie Athon running from 12.01am Friday June 8 to 11.59pm on Monday June 11 (this is a public holiday in Australia).

Say, Donna, if you'll host, would you like a co-host? If so, I'd be glad to volunteer so I can learn how to manage these things. It's a bit intimidating b/c they are SOOOOOO active and my time online is limited. I wouldn't feel able to manage one on my own.

I find it helpful to have some themes or challenges on each day of the Athon - even if you don't use them they are a way to get your creative juices flowing.
Do people have any ideas?

We could do:
certain colours - eg complimentary colours; warm/cool tones; black and white; black/white and one other, . . .
themes - things with wings; faces (whimsical/comic/realistic); zentangles (certain patterns, free choice); certain shapes, . . .
OTHERS?

Bubblecup
05-19-2012, 01:17 PM
Great ideas Donna. Lately I'm all about the monochromatic inchies, in a rainbow of colors. Theres also vintage, and a billion other themes. Hehe

Jean
05-19-2012, 02:25 PM
Since it's springtime...I like the colors...and the wings...so far we have...

complimentary colours
warm/cool tones
black and white
black/white +1
monochromatic in rainbow colors

winged things (Oooh, bees!!!)
faces (whimsical/comic/realistic)
zentangles
shapes

I'd add flowers to the suggestions.

Thinking spring...maybe a rhyming theme:
Spring bling (sparkles)....
Spring sing (musical)...
Spring king (crowns)....
Spring-kling (rain!)...
Spring ring (circles)...
Spring string (squiggles or zen?)...
Spring things (anything assoc with spring?)...
Spring sting (bees!!!!! ;))....
Spring wings (anything with wings)...lol. And no flowers in that mix...hmm.

Well, when you upload your inchies for trades, post it in this thread so we'll know to hunt 'em down! The gallery expands so fast, if you just go paging through it, you'll never find anything. I can't anyway, lol.

sharlene54
05-20-2012, 04:48 PM
I would rally like to join in on the fun. I never made inchies before. Do I make a group of them to trade? If so, does the group follow the same theme? HELP!!

Jewels
05-20-2012, 05:09 PM
From what I've seen, they usually make 6 with a similar theme or colors on a ATC size card. Is that right?

Jean
05-20-2012, 06:28 PM
Heck if I know! LOL I've traded single inchies, groups of 3, groups of 6 and even bigger groups in private trades.

Other inchie-a-thons have traded in groups of 4 or 6...but I've also seen people put their inchies up as sets to trade as a unit as well as individuals to create sets for personalized trades.

However Donnacr wants to handle it is ok by me, lol, as I don't know any differently anyway!

Bubblecup
05-20-2012, 07:40 PM
I do my inchies both ways. I make sets of 6 to to trade as a set, but also make others to trade individually. And you don't mount them on an atc sized card. I know a couple of people do that, but trade those as atcs, not inchies as they're permanently attached to the card.

Jean
05-20-2012, 08:13 PM
I want to get some of that repositionable glue to use to mount inchies onto cardstock, as that's what I do with mine. Currently, I cut slivers of cello tape and make a little hinge with part on the inchie-back and the other part onto the card.

I don't know what to do with my inchies otherwise. What do you do with your inchies?

Rogue Gal
05-20-2012, 08:54 PM
I bought some binder pages here http://www.retrocafeart.com/item_296/Inchie-30-Pocket-Binder-Page.htm to store my inchies in.

Jean

Oh, of course! Those are for coin collectors! I wonder if Walmart would have them? Coin or hobby shops should... How perfect for those individual trades! Thanks!

KESagers
05-21-2012, 02:02 PM
Usually inchies are traded in sets of 6 but you can negotiate any number trade you want. I affix mine using removable tape or I staple pockets into an ATC sleeve. JanisElain just traded me the neatest inchie book for collecting and displaying them.

Jean
05-21-2012, 02:12 PM
Are they normally traded as sets of 6 on particular themes? I don't make inchies that way...I just make 'em on whatever comes to mind. Of course, I've been painting them... It would be easier to do batches like that if I were collaging, I guess...but I guess I can paint on a theme...hmm.

I like the idea of collage inchies...maybe abstracts!!!!! Oooooh! *grabbing my box of cut bits*

Bubblecup
05-21-2012, 03:19 PM
If just making and posting sets of 6 in the gallery for trade, I usually do one theme for set. But for custom trades I like doing all different themes. People approach me more often about trading the sets of 6 than they do my one offs, so It seems some people prefer sets. Makes no different to me personally, I love cute inchies eithervway. :)

Those holders are awesome Rogue Gal! I keep meaning to check out my local coin shop for some, but have never gotten around to it. I have some of my fave inchies in a frame, once in awhile I switch them out. I'd like to get more frames for the rest of them, but wall space is a hot commodity in my house!

PinkZombie
05-21-2012, 05:47 PM
It might have more to do with the fact that mailing only 1-3 inchies at a time could seem like a waste of postage, so sets of 6 are the general norm?

Jean
05-21-2012, 09:55 PM
Good point! Heck, my trading partners and I usually wait till we have 6 atcs before we mail out for that reason! (Of course, then we'd be talking 36 inchies....eek! ;))

jean - you are doing a magnificent job during my absence. This is my first (and possibly last) chance to get to a computer while we are away.

During the last Inchie-a-thon I was part of most trades were 6-6 Inchies (6 Inchies = 1 ATC/APC) but some people also offered collections of Inchies from which people could mix and match a set of 6. As these are all personal trades it is up to the people trading what they want to exchange.

It looks like we will have enough people to keep the trades coming fast and lively over the weekend (and a bit - as we continue during Monday :))

Just to throw my 2 cents in on the convos...
I always trade at least 6:6 on inchies, or sometimes 12:12. Anything to stretch a stamp.
I store my inchies in a little glass jar. I leave it on my table and people can take 'em out and look thru 'em.
Also, all you inchie lovers, look for the MMH and PIF inchie threads in the mail art trades. They're usually quiet!

Great idea, Locatray! We'll definitely post the link to the official thread here so everyone can find it.

I've never made those star books like JanisElain did...but I have begun saving clear plastic bits from packaging to use to make the 'regular' inchie holders with cello tape. But when it comes to putting into my binders, I use teeny bits of cello tape, though I'm considering rubber cement or a dab of that fun-tack (that tacky plastic adhesive you have to stretch to activate - schools used to use it by the buckets ful).

I have no problem trading inchies in groups of 6, but often I make them in pairs or 4s b/c I think they look nicer on an ATC backing. Just because I trade for 6 doesn't mean I have to mount them together, though....
