If you're like me, sometimes you buy things just because you hope one day to use it on a card: Letter stickers, quote rub-ons, prismacolor pencils. I'd like to give you the opportunity to use those items now. The theme of this swap is No Theme! Create something simply because you love to create. I am expecting to see a wide variety of wonderful cards from all of you creative people out there! This means that I don't want the cards that you just can't seem to get rid of. I want your best work, your favorite cards...the ones you almost hate to part with! And please only send your original work. Just think of your returns! All mediums are welcome.

Due Date:
Cards are due by June 1, 2008. This will be an on time swap. I will mail your return cards the very next day!

Swap Rules:
OVERSEAS AND CANADA - I'll pay for your postage but please provide me with a label or SAE.
US PLAYERS - Please provide a SASE or a label. Include enough postage to return cards to you. Remember to account for the number of cards that you are expecting in return. One stamp will not mail 10 cards!

Please make sure that your username is on your cards. It would be nice if you signed your cards someplace as well. If you become rich and famous, we'd like to prove that we're holding a mini-masterpiece!

Those are some great cards. I am curious about the technique(s) used, and you don't appear to have listed anything on the thumbnails nor in your gallery. Were you going to put that anywhere? I can send you a pm if I am the only one interested, but other might want to know, too.

04-08-2008, 11:10 AM
TuTu, your cards are wonderful. I just noticed you can send 1-10 cards. Wow! I had best get busy!!

04-08-2008, 01:17 PM
Tutuglenna, I am actually also interested in your techniques. I love the feelings that come from your cards.

Everyone, the more cards the merrier as long as it's your best work! I'll mail packages if I have to! Keep up the good work!

Oh, goddy, another curious soul.
I think I can recognize the colored pencil work, but some of the backgrounds I am unsure of. Are they paints, or fancy paper? And the picts - are they hand drawn? The owls look like they might be cut out pictures, but the clowns look painted. "Inquiring minds want to know"

04-08-2008, 03:42 PM
For the curious:

Clowns: an Acrylic background, hand drawn balloons colored with acrylic and prismacolor pencils and overlaid with the collage clown images.

The two "Desert" pictures was an exercise in getting the right acrylic marbled background look for the two JOADOOR images (a couple of my favorites). That is Desert King and Desert Flower.

The Maiden with Bird are collage images. The trick was to get the color/pattern background in acrylic to match the picture of this that I saw originally. Unfortunately, I cut this picture out long ago and have no reference to the original artist ...to sing his praises.

Prairie Sunset is a hand drawn painting that was painted in 3 layers before adding the plant effect in the foreground. Actually there was no "drawing" to this. I just painted from top to bottom and tried to make any necessary corrections in the succeeding layers

Basic Black was the rendering of 1 color (black) on a yellow card. An exercise in simplicity.

My Seashells is another hand drawn picture that I colored in layers..alternating prismacolor pencil with an acrylic wash. The 2 shells themselves are pure white acrylic paint as I can't seem to get a "white" white with colored pencil alone

The owls are 3 separate collage images arranged over "straw paper"..That is a nice thick textured paper.

I hope this covers most of your questions....or, pm me

Thank you for your interest.

Vicki Z
04-09-2008, 07:28 AM
Thanks, tutuglenna, for taking the time to outline your techniques. I think I learn more when I try to understand how art is put together, and what techniques and mediums were used to create different effects. (Blame my high school art teacher.):D The cards are spectacular!
I think you answered everything. Thanks again

04-12-2008, 05:31 AM

For this swap I used chalk, a new supply I just bought recently. I was still experimenting with using it while making these. The cards are just chalk and a black pen to out line. On the flag card, I also used a siler metalic marker.

For most of the cards, I did applied the chalk first and then drew the outline in pen. For two of the cards - the purple/white flowers and my "shaky hand" yellow/orange rose - I did the outline first and then colored it in. Contrary to what I thought doing the chalk first and then the paper worked out a lot better. That is why there are only two cards where I did the outline first. None of the other cards I tried that way turned out.

There cards are slightly fruity smelling. I followed a suggesion on the board to use Aussie mega hair spray as a fixative. (My first time using a fixative.) It worked pretty good and fruity is better then a chemical smell- chemical fumes often make me feel a little loopy  - but I will air over night to see if the smell diminishes.

05-17-2008, 03:35 PM

05-24-2008, 01:12 PM
Here are some of my cards, I've made 4 plus one for the hostess:wideeyed:

I think this is a really good theme, I gave it a lot of thought and I went to the craft room and pulled out things I've bought with great enthusiasm that have languished gathering dust ever since:embarrassed:.

So now I've made something with my Big Shot, I've used my alcohol inks and I've used some of the pack of rub-ons I bought last year and didn't know why when I got home:biglaugh:

They went postal first thing this morning, hope they make it in time

05-26-2008, 12:55 AM

Lovely returns have arrived from this swap. Many thanks to Chardonnay1965, Cindyru, Elena, Sea Song, Maxie23, Wulfcwen and Stellacometa for your beautiful cards and special thanks to our hostess for having us all aboard.

Kimberly, I don't think you have given me iTrader for being in this swap. Do you do that after you mail out or is this an oversight??

06-09-2008, 10:46 PM
I received my returns today also. Thanks to Elena, Stellacometa and Cindru for your wonderful cards and thanks to our hostess for hosting this challenging swap.

Kimberly, I too have not received an iTrader for this swap and was also curious if you waited until the swap was totally complete or if this was an oversight?

Thanks again for the great swap!

06-10-2008, 10:44 AM
I do wait until the end on iTrader points. I'm sorry that I did not relay that.

06-11-2008, 01:20 PM
Received three lovely, creative cards from: Lola123, Vicki Z, and Stellacometa. Thanks for these little arty pieces and thanks to kandm17 for hosting such a special swap!

06-11-2008, 05:34 PM
Received great art from Bright-Spark, Maxie23, Chardonay1965, VickiZ, and SeaSong. Thank you so much and a big thank you to Kimberly for hosting!

06-11-2008, 10:06 PM
Thanks for playing everybody! I am now requesting that this swap be moved to the Archived Swaps threads. Have fun creating! :wubclub:

06-12-2008, 03:00 AM
Please can it wait to be archived until those of us who have yet to receive cards can thank people within the thread?

Also, what date were swaps posted please? It's useful to know, then I know if I should start to be concerned about non-arrival :)

Thanks for playing everybody! I am now requesting that this swap be moved to the Archived Swaps threads. Have fun creating! :wubclub:

I agree with Stargroves! Most folks like to comment on cards received, and also like to know where their cards end up. You may not realize it, but if you move this swap to the Archived Swaps, it is no longer possible for anyone to post to the thread.

06-12-2008, 03:28 PM
Thanks for the information. I was PM'd with some as well. I'm still learning the rules about hosting so it's good to have you all keeping me on my toes. Most cards went out on June 4th, but there were a few envelopes held until the 7th. Thanks for keeping us updated as you get your cards.

Vicki Z
06-13-2008, 08:17 AM
I have received my returns, and I must say I am very disappointed in how you packaged them to send out.

I sent my cards into you in a 9 sleeve, 8 1/2 x 11, plastic ATC holder, which accordian folds to fit perfectly into a legal envelope. I assumed you would send it back to me holding my returns. You didn't.

You stacked all my (10) cards into one end of the envelope, which made the accumulated bulk into a 2 i nch high, 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inch small package, shoved into an unprotected first class envelope. I am not surprised that it was mutilated in the mail upon my receipt.

Further, with the extra weight on my cards, and the additional bulk of 10 cards sent to you, it cost 79 cents to mail my cards to you, and I had some really heavy and thick cards. I therefore put the same postage on my return envelope, and when I picked up my returns, the weight on what you sent to me was fine, but due to the way you packaged the cards, and the fact that the 2 inch thick stack of cards was now considered a "package" it cost me $3.00 in additional postage charges to get my cards out of hock.

I really wish you had used my sleeve (sent with my cards to you) to distribute the card bulk on my returns, or since you kept my sleeve, I think you could have at least taken the time to tape the ATCs edge to edge to spread them out into a thinner layer for mailing.

I hope I am the only one this happened to, and that you can take this as a learning suggestion to pack cards differently on your next batch of returns.

06-13-2008, 11:50 AM

I am so sorry that your cards were mangled. I stacked the cards side by side and they never shifted. I'm not sure why I did not think to put your cards back into a sleeve, but I really should have done that. I no longer have your address, but would like to send you replacement cards for however many were mangled and some money to make up for the postage charges. Please PM your address.

If anyone else has issues, feel free to PM your address and what I owe to you as well. I am chalking this up to experience and making my share of mistakes so it won't happen again, but I'd like the chance to make things right by you all.

Vicki Z
06-13-2008, 01:32 PM
We all understand a learning curve, which is why I was rather long-winded about what happened. You cannot improve if you don't know.

You said you "stacked the cars side by side and they never shifted".
You probably should have taped the sleeves together to guarantee they didn't shift, since you were not going to use the plastic sleeve I provided.

Mail runs through a sorting machine, and even if the contents don't shift when you shake it at home, the minute one end of the envelope is sucked into the USPS Sorter, everything "not taped down" is pushed to the other end of the envelope by the machine. Contents get damaged, and sometimes pushed out of a torn envelope. Trust me, I have sorted mail, and that is what obviously happened to my unsecured cards.

Fortunately, all of the cards were in protective sleeves, and I think I can salvage most of it. It looked worst when I first picked it up in a baggie of pieces and parts than when I later emptied out the contents and found that most of the damage was to the exterior envelope. Apart from some bent corners (which I have already rounded off and actually, I like the look better)(P.S. apologizes to the artists whose cards I slightly altered) and one card that got wet, but that only blended the colors slightly, everything was salvageable, and my blood pressure only went up a "few" points.

I didn't complain to make you feel you owed me anything other than to learn from your experience, and NEVER do this again.

Thanks, tho, for your offer. That is most gracious.

06-13-2008, 02:10 PM
I appreciate your offering up your experience and not holding a permanent grudge (although I understand why you were quite upset to begin with). My offer still stands, though, to anyone who feels that I need to make amends. I take full responsiblity as a host and wish for everyone to have a good experience from this. I will hold no grudges to anyone who wants to take me up on this offer. It's just a matter of customer service.

Vicki Z
06-13-2008, 07:23 PM
Hey, tutuglenna. I got your awesome clowns. Thanks. Yours is one of the cards I rounded corners on, to eliminae damage, and the rounded corners better match the curves on the background balloons. Sorry I messed with your art, but I didn't have much choice, and I do LOVE that card.

06-17-2008, 10:17 AM
Thank you for my cards, received safely. Like Vicki Z, mine were not taped as I had packed the originals, which meant they'd all fallen to one end. Luckily mine weren't damaged and, as I'd made less cards, I didn't get caught for extra postage.

I think this is a great theme Kimberley, but a bit more communication over receipt and sending of cards would have made it much less worrisome for participants :). Thank you for hosting, it is a lot of work, I know.

Thank you to Vicki Z, Ilah Barnes, cindyru and Sea Song for a great set of creative cards. I-trader and rep left.

06-19-2008, 05:23 AM
I hope mine come soon..:(

06-19-2008, 04:57 PM

I never received your cards, but I am going to send you some in the envelope I just got back. I can't imagine you would have sent some in for one swap and not another. Thanks for playing.
