Hello and welcome to the PURPLE CHARM SWAP This is for purple charms of any kind - altered scrabble tiles, altered objects, beaded charms, PMC charms, you name it - anything goes as long as it is purple! As always though, please do your best work.

This swap is for a minimum 5 for 5 and up to 10 charms maximum. 8 - 10 would make a nice amount for a chunky charm bracelet; or you can hang them individually. Each charm should have some way to hang it (a drilled hole with a jump ring or similar thing).

Feel free to add additional beads, embellishments, and danglies to your charms. Charms can be done in any media or mix of medias you would like :). Since most of us will probably use them as jewelry, please also make sure they are sealed with a strong glaze and that the art alterations are permanent!

Rules:
1) Send in a minimum of five and maximum of 10 charms and get that many in return. Charms as hostess gifts would be appreciated but not required!

2) Please send an appropriate amount of postage for the amount of charms (what it takes you to mail them to me). The last swap cost about $2- $2.50 in postage for 10 charms or so. Please send it as loose stamps or well concealed cash.

3) International participants - All participants are REQUIRED to send postage, including international participants. My post office, in fact, does accept International Reply Coupons. You can send me IRCs if you'd like or else you can send me postage via paypal or US stamps if you have them. If you are sending IRCs, you will need to send me serveral--each one counts for one stamp to your country; usually these swaps cost $3-4 to mail overseas, so that should be 3-4 IRCs.

4) Bubble mailers-- PLEASE send me a bubble mailer to mail your charms back in (I will reuse bubble mailers that you send if you send an address label). The bubble mailer should have your complete return address on it. On the back, put your userID and the amount of charms you have sent.

5) Charms should have your name on them somewhere, although not necessarily on the charm itself--this means have INDIVIDUAL packages with your name. If you package the charms, you can include your name and user ID on the label somewhere.

6) All charms should be IN MY HANDS by June 25th, 2008. This gives us over two months to work on our charms! PM me for my address when you are ready to send.

I`m thinking of making more swirly bead charms for this swap if there`s a interest for them. Is it okay to include more colors than purple to make the swirls more interesting? Maybe black and different blue colors?

Moonfairy - yes, you can add other colors as long as purple is the dominant color.

Poschot - those are cool--make sure you add something to hang them with. Some people do very simple stuff and others do very eclectic stuff, so it just depends :)

I thought it was really great because some of the charms could hang in the dips on the branches as well as the holes that are there for hanging.

Here are a few that are pretty much finished. Some are pendant sized. The one at the bottom on the right is a pressed violet mounted on iridescent paper--looks good in life, hard to see here. The iris photos are mine. The little photo is my dad with my sisters and is really a gift for my sister. Poshscot, I love your washers.

very cool charms so far! i've finished mine today . . . most are shrink plastic charms colored with alcohol inks and rubberstamped, a few are little bundles of purple beads and buttons. I'll take pix before posting!

I'm working on some wooden charms (some scrabble tiles, some wood cutouts). What do the more experienced folks recommend I use as glue? I was going to try decoupage medium and then a few coats of sealant, but I wanted to get other suggestions as well. I also want to order some diamond glaze, as I can't find it in the stores here.

My charms are a bit......bohemian (odd). Anyway, they were made from painted habotai silk and your garden variety beads. I used a pyramid bag pattern to make little pyramid pockets from the silk. Then decorated them with the beads.

I encountered this dilemma myself. You need to find them via a post they have made. I started with the [members list], then [find all posts by....], picked the most recent one, and used it to leave rep points. I did clarify what the rep point was for so s/he didn't confuse the post I used (from a different thread) and knew it was for this swap.

WOW! Got my charms in the mailbox tonight. Looks like there is one from all who posted me they got mine, so far. It is late, so I will post again tomorrow with details and reps. Just want to say they are all beautiful! I took them to a gathering tonight and showed them all off and everyone there said "WOW!" too!!!!
