Theme information:
Each page you make should focus on ONE color, hue, shade, etc. For example:

Red, burgundy, scarlet, orange, rust, pumpkin, yellow, lemon, greens: kelly green, lime, olive, forest, blues: royal, navy, turquoise, sky, periwinkle, robin's egg, purples: lavendar, eggplant, violet, pinks: fuschia, pink, cotton candy, browns: tan, chocolate, muddy, black, white, grey,silver, ivory, gold, copper, etc. etc. etc

Each of these would be considered a different color; You get the idea... Pick a color and use mostly all that ONE color on it! Variations of shades, including black or white, etc, is okay, as long as your page is primarily one color. The above examples are great, see them for inspiration.
The color of page you SEND, is the color I will try to swap it with, when possible. For example, send 4 orange pages, get 4 orange in return. Send 8 different shades, get 8 various shades in return.

Format:
-We will be creating 4x4" pieces of art.
-Please make sure they are quite sturdy. Use at least 2 layers of cardstock for your 'base'.
-Also, the reverse side of the page should have a bit of minimal decoration, and include the artist's title and info. No white/plain pages!
-Chunky book pages are constructed on layers of sturdy cardstock, matboard, illustration board, etc. They can be thick (like a kid's board book) and also called "chunky books" because of the amount of embellishments added to the pages, or for stuff hanging from them--fibers, beads, wire, charms, etc. Please avoid the use of fragile items (shells, pieces from plants, etc.) that may break in shipping. Please do not go 'overboard' with extra embellishments, leave a few danglies, but not the weight of the world on your page.

Media:
This swap is for MIXED media pieces. Include at least 3 different types of media (not all scrapbook paper or all drawing); mixed media incorporating various textures, papers, layers, glazes, ephemera, paints, fibers, stitching, fabric, hand drawing, glitter, buttons, metals, charms, inks, pigments, etc. Be creative!

Shipping costs:
-All participants must pay for their own return shipping.
-Based on previous chunky book swaps, these are the approximate costs for mailing them back to you:
--USA: $2.50 ($1.50 for small group)
--Canada: $2.50 ($2 for small group)
--Europe: $4 ($3 for small group)
--Australia and New Zealand: $5 ($4 for small group)

You are free to do any of the following to cover your shipping:
-US participants can send well-concealed cash, US stamps, or money via paypal.
-International participants can also send well concealed U.S. cash, or paypal.
-Note:*If you are using paypal, please add $0.50 cents extra for the paypal charges.

Participant information:
-Minimum itrader of +5 to participate in the LARGE group.
-Once the swap is FULL, please try to fulfill your commitment. If you need to withdraw, please do so by May 15th.

Mailing:
Please send your pages in a bubble or other sturdy envelope. Send me an address label, and I will reuse your envelope to mail it back to you, when possible. Please write your name and user ID clearly on the back of your pages. Pages should individually be wrapped in a ziploc bag or waxed paper, to ensure they don't STICK together when shipped. Try to use something easily accessible or see-through, so that I can see them to trade them out!

Due Date: All chunky book pages will be due IN MY HANDS by May 28th, 2008.
International participants, should mail at least two weeks early to assure that they arrive on time!

I can't believe you would have trouble with monochromatic! Your collages are wonderful.

I think the easiest way is to go through my stashes of stuff and pull out things with the same colors, group those and then start putting them together into pages. I know when I get started I will probably end up making a lot, so that is why I signed up for 8.

Yes, Lisa! That's what I do. Get a ziploc for each color and put bits of images, fibers, paper, etc. in it all week. Then, comb through a magazine and pull out pretty words, textures, flowers, patterns, etc, in that color. You'll find inspiration.

Maybe this will be a way for me to use up some of my enormous stash of stuff that I need to prune. I like the idea of the baggies. I do a similar thing with swaps where I use one big baggie, but little ones for different colors sounds spot on! I can't wait to get home and get started.

My plan is that I don't care what I get back as long as it isn't a few colours that I hate which I'll tell OY. I'm doing a 4-some (woohoo) in the same palette (probably purple blue - rich blue - light blue - green blue) and then 4 individual colours so I'm spreading the love!

I finished two today. I hope they are ok. the backs have vintage lace collaged over vintage music sheets. I then drew, stamped, embossed. I collaged with vintage images and stamped paper flowers. I finished with distress ink and a finish spray.:jiggy:

A member of this swap sent me a PM discreetly, encouraging me to think about my statement about allowing some members of this swap to 'pick their own pages'.

I appreciated hearing her opinion, for sure. Of course, in my case, honesty is definitely encouraged!

I always swap out my pages (and cards for swaps) individually, one by one, swapping quality work for the same in every situation possible. There isn't any situation where I would let careful, unique, creative artists end up with 'leftover' returns.

I can now completely understand her frustration that letting others 'choose' pages wouldn't be fair to those of you who can't be here to do the same.

Those who are participating in this swap that are local to me will get their returns HANDED to them at the DFW meet-up, but they shouldn't get to swipe all their favorites from the group, leaving the 'leftovers' for everyone else.

I appreciate honest feedback from fellow swappers, hosts, and participants in every case. I'm glad honesty led to a better choice in this case.

If some of you really LIKE pages posted by others (especially myself) in this swap, feel free to say so, and I will try to take that into consideration. I can't guarantee 40 people will like every one of their pages, but I always try to do the best job that I can to insure that each participant gets a set they will be happy with.

The secret is, that I'm bi-polar. Truely. When I'm Manic, I have LOADS of energy and can multi-task all day long....I'm in the 'groove' lately. I only medicate for the depression, so during my manic phases I get a ton accomplished. If only there were enough hours in the day for me to craft and create stuff; I have a million ideas, but not enough time to carry it out. Most of those pages I showed earlier weren't 'finished', but after working on them for 3 hours tonight, I did finish several more. The scanner is angry with their chunkiness, so I'll show you guys a photo tomorrow.

I found some weird jewelry findings for super cheap (yea, Big Lots!) that work really well to make 'tassels' from the ribbons and fibers. I'm excited to show you guys what I did with them.

I won't be letting people 'choose' their own pages, that was what my 'speech' was about earlier, as someone pointed out that it isn't fair to the rest of you; and I am inclined to agree. :)

Just to clarify: Pages will be swapped among ALL players, not just within your group. So, if you see someone named SallySue in the 8 page group makes all orange pages, but you are in the SMALL 4 page group, you can still hope to get one of hers if you make an orange page also. Especially if you write: "I would LOVE to get one of SallySue's orange pages, if possible" on the back of your return envelope. :) You'll have even better luck if SallySue requests one of your pages too!

Also, I did post above, but I personally will swap out all the pages, I won't be letting others in the DFW group choose all their own at the meet-up. :)

ok ladies, the moment of truth . . . now go easy on me, remember these are my first official chunkies ever . . . the first one i started with i just couldn't figure out what to add to it and kept getting frustrated, so i threw it out, went to the craft store, bought some fun supplies, and was inspired all over again. here's what i ended up with. i am anxious to hear feedback, because i'm sure as always, someone will love my least favorite, and no one will comment on my favorite. lol. i was very nervous, it's like a big relief lifted off my shoulders to be finished with both me and the chunkies in one piece. lol. PS: i still need pointers, suggestions on "chunky" things to add, etc. but for now i'll stop talking and start unveiling:
