View Full Version : Impromptu-ATAT now (Aug 23-25)

08-23-2013, 05:29 AM
Well, I had some plans for the weekend but my hubby is so sick (nothing serious so no worries) that we can't go anywhere. So, free weekend at home and nothing to do. ATART anyone? I'll be playing anyway.

Starting time: now when you see this thread :)
Ending time: Sunday August 25 when the day ends

What we can do: ATC’s, chunky pages, 4x6’s, inchies, twinchies, charms, jewelry, art dolls, skinny pages, journal pages, tags, rolos, gothic arches, post cards – or whatever type of art your heart calls you to create!

All mediums are welcome: collaging, sewing, painting, drawing, digital altering, photographs, metal work, beading, sculpting...

All styles are welcome: APCs, zentangles, stamps (postage and rubber), stickers, various colour schemes (b/w, pastels/brights, autumn/winter/spring/summer shades, single colors, etc)

And of course we can trade! This marathon is open to everyone and all kinds of art.

What is an ATART?

It’s an All Types of ART marathon where you can create art, made over the same time in each time zone. This thread is going to be our crafting room.

Start creating art when it's time to start, then upload your lovely creations to your Athon gallery and post to the thread. Trading and chatting are going on all the time.
After all the trading is done move your creations OUT of the Athon Gallery and into their correct Galleries - 'Available ATCs' or 'Mail Art'

When you find a piece of art you would like to trade, please SEND A PERSONAL MESSAGE (pm) to that person asking for a trade. Please DO NOT post requests for trades to the thread. It can get way too confusing.

Note: If you do make a trade, please be sure to send to your trade partner within two weeks. If you’re running late, communicate!

And you will… remember you can click the You Rock button and leave it there.

From your atcsforall.com gallery:

It’s easiest to have two windows open.
1) Go to your gallery & right click on the picture you wish to post - this brings up a menu that includes “Copy Image Location”.
2) Click on the “Copy Image Location”
3) Go to your post and hit the "insert image" button (looks like a postcard)
4) Paste the address (right click, click paste or Ctrl V) into the window that pops up and hit OK - that puts the code into your post for your picture to show up; (you paste the address from the properties box over the http thingy that shows when you open the "insert image" box)
5) and then you're done.

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/296/small/1_64.jpg [/IMG

(leaving the last bracket off the above so you can see how the address will look)

Remember that images from the gallery can be small, medium or large. Find the word or letters s m l in the address and change it to 'small' or 's'.

[I]From your computer:

1. Click POST REPLY at the bottom of the messages screen. Above the message box, click the paperclip next to the smiley face. Then upload as usual. This will upload your picture as a thumbnail.
2. If you go into the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the messages screen, click GO ADVANCED and you will get the paperclip above the message box.

NEW TO MARATHONS OR A-THONS? If you have any questions at all, feel free to pm me or the co-hosts if you have questions. You can also post questions to the thread. We have a lot of experienced art-a-thoners who are more than willing to help those of you new to this craziness.

IMPORTANT: REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR USERNAME (EASY TO READ) ON THE BACK OF YOUR CARDS. You can't get an iTrader if your trading partner doesn't know who you are.

Thanks for the invite.
I will try to play.

Sorry to hear about hubby.
Hope he recovers quickly!

08-23-2013, 06:41 AM
I'll be here. I'm working on some round robin cards and PAT cards so I'll be busy all weekend. :)

08-23-2013, 06:56 AM
Hi Sanna! Thanks for the invite. I hope to have time to play this weekend. :spinny:

08-23-2013, 07:08 AM
OOHHH I might be able to play...LOL I have Saturday all to myself.....Sunday we are traveling to the big town an hour away to get a new freezer and vacuum got the hubby.

08-23-2013, 07:09 AM
Wish I could play. Been very busy with assignments and workshops. As a matter of fact, just got back from one workshop. Time now is 19.05 and date is 23rd Friday! Another workshop tomorrow @ 10.00am, with homework to prepare. Will surely try after my return from wkshp tomorrow. If I am not too tired. Has not been making cards at all since May! Thanks for the invite.
Sorry to hear about your hubby. Wishing him a quick recovery from whatever!

08-23-2013, 08:27 AM
I think I can play. My muse has left me, this might just kick start my muse. Thanks for the invite. I hope your hubby feels better.

08-23-2013, 08:44 AM
Thanks for the invite....I'll be along with cards later today.

08-23-2013, 09:24 AM
I took all the benefits out of the wideness of the term ART. Because this is an all-types-of-art-a-thon, I started with an old cholate box and will make it to be my collage image box. The project is now half made but I need to finish it somehow. Need to find more brown supplies...

08-23-2013, 10:05 AM
Yay! I have to go to the office soon, but should have some art time this weekend. It will be fun to check in to see and share weekend art projects. :) I have a commissioned whimsical portrait painting to finish, but then hope to work on some other things.

Looking forward to seeing your collage image box, Sanna!

08-23-2013, 10:25 AM
Busy weekend in our house, but will try to do some art to swap! Always like a good atart!

08-23-2013, 10:25 AM
YAY!! Sanna's back :jiggy:

I've got stuff I have to do first, then I'll join in :)

08-23-2013, 10:36 AM
Sounds like fun! I have a busy weekend, but hopefully I can squeeze in some time to do a few things. Yay! :)

Hey Sanna! Hope hubs is on the mend! And glad to hear that you must be feeling better.

I'll try to play a little but right now my priority project is my mom's high school scrapbook. She has a reunion in September and I have quite a bit to do in it--some new pages from scratch, and some pages partially completed that need writing/captions, embellies, etc.

08-23-2013, 11:34 AM
I am hoping to play Sanna! Just not sure how full my schedule will be this weekend.

08-23-2013, 11:50 AM
I started a new project that has nothing to do with the summer... I'll post some pics when I have at least something to show.

08-23-2013, 12:45 PM
Here are the first ATART cards. Christmas cards! But it's good to start early enough...

08-23-2013, 01:25 PM
Glad I checked in before I headed to the studio. :)

08-23-2013, 01:42 PM
Here are my first offerings:
Golden Poppies
Two Poppies: orange and red
Snowdrops (with leaves)
Snowdrops (close-up)

08-23-2013, 01:47 PM
Yay! Christmas!!!! Pretty cards.

Like the poppy cards, Jo!

08-23-2013, 01:51 PM
Off to a running start already! I need to finish some JAMs. If they are worth posting I will. This gives me and excuse to play a little this weekend. :)

08-23-2013, 01:54 PM
thanks for the invite, Sanna! ill see if i can play a little but this weekend is crazy with #3 child moving back to college and #4 child getting ready to start her senior year on Tuesday.

i need a kick start for my muse too!

08-23-2013, 02:35 PM
I'm done with my HD/HP Round Robin cards. :) And I think that's it for today. I'll be back tomorrow.

08-23-2013, 02:45 PM
Thanks for the invite Sanna! I hope to have some time to play! :D

08-23-2013, 03:19 PM

I see some great cards popping up in the gallery! I just about have all my JAMs ready to mail - counted 14 envelopes - they added up fast and probably sat on my craft table too long but now everything is sorted and I should be able to start to marathon tomorrow. Funny thing is I was working so late on things tonight and was spread out everywhere and the cats were ready to go to bed before I was and starting pushing me around making me move my stuff and myself out of the way so that THEY could have THEIR favorite places to sleep. This really is their house - we just live here.

Sniisk I'm glad you are on the mend and I hope your husband is soon!

08-24-2013, 12:37 AM
Yay! I'm off work this weekend...maybe I can create a few cards. Having trouble with making things for themed trades, but maybe if I can create *something* it'll get the creative juices flowing.

08-24-2013, 12:53 AM
I've made some cards - I hope I get a chance to post them tonight. There is a rugby test on tonight - New Zealand v Australia, Rugby is our national game and there is great rivialry between NZ and Aussie so I must watch it LOL

08-24-2013, 02:19 AM
Here is a 4 x 6 gothic arch I made this evening. It is available if anyone else is interested in making gothic arches. Please PM me if interested, otherwise, I will have it stored to trade at ARTzona in January.

I made hot dogs in the evening too. More time for crafting if I use less time for cooking :biglaugh:.

I think I was having a bit slow start too because I really didn't plan to play this weekend. But this day will be better.

08-24-2013, 03:42 AM
I can't play this one...gearing up to start the teaching year on Monday. But I did want to cheer on the atart-ers! Beautiful work so far; can't wait to see what else you come up with this weekend!

We are starting the semester also on Monday. I know so well how you feel. I hope I have done enough preparations for the first week :).

08-24-2013, 04:10 AM
I'm working Friday and Saturday, so I don't know if I will have time to play or not, but I sure appreciate the invite! At the very least I can come in and enjoy the eye candy!

Sanna, it's so great to see you back here posting - I've missed you!

08-24-2013, 04:49 AM
Great cards everyone! :) I have just three cards for now but will be back later with more. They are for some personal trades.

08-24-2013, 07:05 AM

08-24-2013, 07:06 AM

08-24-2013, 09:01 AM
I have made a huge pile of backgrounds today but haven't finished any card yet. If nothing else, I'll have a better start tomorrow to create something ready.

08-24-2013, 09:14 AM
Just read your PM - thanks for the heads up, Sanna! Hope your husbandŽs feeling better.

IŽll try to play as much as possible:)

08-24-2013, 09:27 AM
I have some backgrounds started - printed off some of my digis and want to add some embellishments. Love all the art I already see and I really r e a l l y would like to have something to trade soon. :err:

Origami, but of course!

Ginger: a bit mean looking, but then he is a battled-scarred alley cat!
Silky: more gentle looking but they are actually the same fold. Expressions differs with each cat.
Tail will wrap around the back of ATC.

Archy: Can be done in any color.
Credit: Mrs. Toshie Takahama

Fishy: the fish will move by placing thumb and finger at tail end and rub them together.

08-24-2013, 10:17 AM
Opps! forgot to mention the background... I've not decided yet actually. A little bit unprepared right now as I've stopped making cards for a few months. Trying to pick up where I left off.

08-24-2013, 11:16 AM
Signing in to bookmark this thread - I hope to be able to make something tomorrow when we get back from opening the village volleyball court my husband's work donated.
The trick will be making something from the really odd supplies I have left (my craft room has landed at Jakarta, now it just has to clear Customs and move from Jakarta to Kalimantan)sigh-h-h-h-h-h-

Glad to hear that you are feeling better Sanna, hope your husband recovers quickly.

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/1854/small/1_My_first_Zen.jpg (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=375741) This is my very first Zen...I have admired all the pumpkins ones being posted so just had to finally try it...When I finished it did not look like a pumpkin so I added some leaves and renamed it a pear!! I was amazed at how quick it was to make...maybe 20-30 minutes and that is so quick compared to a collage where I have to look for images and cut them out.....I think I will go try to make some more!!

08-24-2013, 11:37 AM
Nice Nancy! I will try to get some cards ready to post today.

08-24-2013, 11:44 AM
Lol, Nancy you made me laugh. :) Pumpkin turned into a pear. I love it! I like zentangles but don't enjoy doing them. My head starts to hurt because of the concentration and my hand starts to cramp. I'm so not zen while doing tangles. :)

Here are two more from me. I'm catching up on all my swaps and trades. The bird is collaged.

08-24-2013, 11:52 AM
Thanks for the invite, Sanna! My weekend's really busy, I'm afraid, but I'm glad there were so many who could join you. I just popped in to admire all the art that's been posted. Have fun!

08-24-2013, 12:52 PM
Sanna, your so sweet to include me in the inviting pm's.....even tho I've not been able to participate on AFA , for SO long now. Thanks my friend.

some of my fav afa'ers are here too!!

even if I don't manage to make anything, I'm here, cheering you all on!

.............................AFA, thats the Way
..............................glueing, painting, all the Day
..............................I don't care what others say,
..............................I was crazy before. Anyway........:P:jiggy:;)

hmmmmmmm, well, guess I'll hang my poets hat up. :goofy::D

08-24-2013, 12:59 PM
I can't believe that I haven't shown anything today. But I really don't have anything to show. Everything is just half made.

08-24-2013, 01:03 PM
Me neither, Sanna. I started several cards, including your APCs. WeŽll see if and what IŽll be able to finish:)

08-24-2013, 01:03 PM
er, ahem.....dear athoners, by my previous post in which I wrote an exquisite poem,(which by the way, I hope to have published soon)...I don't mean to imply that all athoners or afa'ers are crazy.
I , personally, am 65% crazy, am working on 100%.

I think you all are awesome.

08-24-2013, 01:05 PM
Evelyn, your APCs are those half made cards but I won't show them before I've finished them.

08-24-2013, 01:06 PM
Suze, 65% is quite little. I would approximate that I'm a lot over that. More near the full 100%.

08-24-2013, 01:20 PM
***LOL*** Me too!! Just ask my doctor and my therapist

Just Ducky
08-24-2013, 01:47 PM
Suze..... you only at 65% ??? poor baby... you best hurry up and put your big pants on and catch with the rest of us... I'm at 89 and de'duck passed 100% couple years ago..

Donna... have you ever found a place to buy arty stuff 'over there" ???

Sanna... it sounds like you are super prepared for lots of show and tell later just so happy you are feeling some better...

SO HELLO to all you fellow players... and sure hoping I can tweek out something you might like for trade... if not ??? poor Ducky... but love ya all anyways. :jiggy:

08-24-2013, 02:02 PM

Masa paper is something you get wet, crinkle up and then use a brayer to smooth over watercolor paper covered with paste. It gives the painting a textured look. Something I tried yesterday.

08-24-2013, 02:32 PM
Hello everyone:)

Finally have some cards finished. First two are up for trade, the APCs are for Sanna, if she likes them:

Pretty technique Lilbad!

Love the Ann Frank collages Evalila!

08-24-2013, 02:44 PM
Evelyn, I sure like them! Sorry, you need to wait until I have finished the cards.

08-24-2013, 02:46 PM
I'm tired and it's really dark here so time to say good night and see you all tomorrow.

08-24-2013, 02:47 PM
I think I'll plan some ways to show all my APC collections in my art room. Just need to get some ideas.

08-24-2013, 02:48 PM
No problem!

I think thereŽll be nothing more from me today. Our dog wants to go on her evening walk - guess this will change as soon as she finds out that itŽs raining outside.....

See you all tomorrow!

08-24-2013, 03:40 PM
Things keep getting in my way today . . . . . now there is a sink full if dishes! :arghh:

BTW if this is a contest I'm way past 100% on the crazy scale when it comes to crafts - maybe on the rest too . . . ;)

08-24-2013, 03:57 PM
Everyone has been a whole lot more productive than I have been today! Thanks for the eye candy girls!

I did get 2 little paper bowls made but no pictures as of yet. The first little bowl was more or less a practice run. I'd never made a paper bowl like these before. The second little bowl turned out nicely though.
I painted my fingernails, does that count? Probably not.....

I'm going to drag out the markers and the ATC blanks and see what the muse comes up with.

08-24-2013, 04:27 PM
I just saw this and I had just finished some cards for a swap. I had stamped extras and finished them to post in my gallery. Well I will post them here first.

I had a great day yesterday and managed to get quite a lot done. In fact I surprised myself so here is what I made. They are all available for trade. The art dolls are on painted and stamped backgrounds, a couple of them are on tissue paper as well. The dolls are all made up of differing collaged items and adhered to the card.

I'm gonna go with your excuse Ducky (not the one that I let them pile up for a few days already) - yes - I like Ducky's excuse - I am overworked and cooking way way toooooo much!

Finally one from me:

He Wrote the Letter - this bad boy has found a home

I'd like to know what he put in that letter because he seems a bit lecherous if you ask me. (A smiley face with horns might be right for this spot.)

08-24-2013, 06:08 PM
I have just been lazy, lazy, lazy. Leftovers tonight and the paper plate idea sounds great. Our trouble is way to many cake and cookie leftovers from yesterdays ladies meeting. We have been munching on those all day.

I finally finished a few cards.

1U(traded), 2U(traded), 3U, 4U(traded), 5U

08-24-2013, 06:58 PM
I Had to finish my You've got mail swap cards before I gave myself permission to play.

Here is the first two... more to come today as I have to take time out to go and buy my hubby a new freezer and vacuum cleaner..LOL I love having a houseworking husband!!

08-24-2013, 07:31 PM
Welcome to the Athon Mayaquilt, I do not think I have seen you post in a couple of years...so glad you are back!....and Senorafuente welcome to AFA..I have been watching your gallery post and love your work!! So glad both of you are playing!

08-24-2013, 07:52 PM
K, I like your letch!

08-24-2013, 08:03 PM
I can play a little this weekend - I've never done an A-Thon before, though.

08-24-2013, 08:17 PM
I have things to share, but nothing to trade at this moment. The muse didn't want to play with the markers so we made a leather bound watercolor journal and sewed a beaded cover for my tea pitcher.
I'm also showing the two paper bowls I made overnight.

These will be all for me till tomorrow. It's very warm here in Kansas this evening and I'm going to take old Fred dog to the lake for a swim. He'll be doing the swimming. I don't know how to swim. He's not had a great day because it has been so warm today and a long swim will do the old boy good.

I'm looking forward to seeing what new beauties are in the thread in the morning. Happy creating everyone!

Some of you have been busy little artists! :) Loving everything that's been shared.

My day was broken up with errands and interruptions. Doesn't feel like I accomplished much. I did finish this portrait that a friend requested, but come to find out, it's not really what she had in mind. She wanted something in a different style that I'd done before and I misunderstood. So, this one may be written off as a practice piece and I'll give a go at the other idea. Oops!

But I'll do that tomorrow. I think I'm going to go spend some time with my markers until bedtime. :)

08-24-2013, 11:38 PM
A couple more a twinchie and a, um, "thrinchie"? (Well, it's 3x3 anyway.)

I've been playing around with collage and mixed media because I want to get better at it. And using up all the odd sized bits of paper I've been holding onto. (Like you couldn't tell.)

With that, I'm off to bed. I'll be back tomorrow.

08-24-2013, 11:53 PM

I love all the cards people are posting! They're all so lovely! I'm not as prolific as you all, but I have finished one card.

08-25-2013, 01:46 AM
Lovely card Foxglove. Welcome to the athon

08-25-2013, 04:37 AM
Yay, so many participants! I'm off to take some pics of the cards I finally finished. Then some breakfast and I'll be back with my show and tell a bit later :).

08-25-2013, 04:38 AM
Thank you Cathy! I just finished another one...still working out how to make an attractively composed collage/mixed media card, but I like it. It seems to be missing something though...not sure what. I'm afraid if I add anything it'll become too busy or cluttered.

08-25-2013, 05:22 AM
My PAT cards for MID August PAT. :) I'll make some later for trade so I won't be showing just traded cards.

08-25-2013, 07:27 AM
I really like interesting and unusual themes in cards. You card is amazing, mayaquilt!

08-25-2013, 08:24 AM
Sniisk, I would have put copies of your images all over the top and modge podged over the top... *grins*

08-25-2013, 08:27 AM
Hi All,
I had a very big ginger cat come and sit and cuddle on my lap tonight... LOL seems no-one was sitting on the couch for him to climb over.
So I have only another three.
I have 2 hours left yet, but don't think I will get more than maybe one more done... very tired after driving for hours today to find "just the right freezer" to suit my husband,... although he did get a lovely new PURPLE vacuum and green dust buster....LOL

08-25-2013, 08:32 AM
Sniisk, I would have put copies of your images all over the top and modge podged over the top... *grins*

Well, it wasn't the idea I had... But at least there wouldn't be any question who owns the box...

08-25-2013, 08:37 AM
IŽd like to have both APCs, Sanna! Love them :)

08-25-2013, 09:15 AM

It is for a shelf in our "toilet" in the summer cabin. Three more to make...

08-25-2013, 09:39 AM
I made two more pieces, art journal pages this time.

08-25-2013, 10:04 AM

Your crochet is so pretty Sniisk!

Busy day today - I hope to play more later - maybe people will still be trading left over art tomorrow too.

08-25-2013, 10:55 AM
I'm multi-tasking .... drinking tea (well, that's not so hard...) making Lentil soup and making art at the kitchentable :cute:

I've finished two chunkies

08-25-2013, 11:22 AM
I see some very cool ATCs needing new homes. ;) Hopefully I can come up with some tradeables today.

Sanna, your crochet word is very pretty, fun way to dress up a shelf. And the box has an elegance about it. Maybe stamped or chipboard letters to say "images" or your name and a few pretty flowers attached?

08-25-2013, 11:28 AM

08-25-2013, 11:56 AM
I think the cards are just wonderful. I always enjoy the variety of styles and mediums. What a group we are. My muse left me for awhile, this is what I needed. Thanks Sanna for the marathon. Fun, Fun, fun.

08-25-2013, 12:06 PM
Wow! You're all rocking! And, Mayaquilt, your art is terrific....so glad you decided to athon!

I've got a few things to do before I get to the studio.

08-25-2013, 12:24 PM

These are all watercolors to trade.

08-25-2013, 01:07 PM
Here is the box at the moment. Thanks JoyFlower for the ideas!

08-25-2013, 01:28 PM
Pretty, Sanna!

08-25-2013, 04:14 PM
Comments and questions about my trip to Scotland: I went two years ago and spent almost a week each in the Shetland and Orkney islands. This was an archaeology tour. We were there for the solstice, so it never became dark. I was most fascinated by the standing stones, especially the Ring of Brodgar and Stones of Stenness (Mainland Island, Orkneys) and the Stone Age settlements such as Jarlshof (South Mainland Island, Shetlands). I also got a kick out of the Viking graffiti (the equivalent of "Ingor loves Brigid", inscribed about 1200 CE) at Maes Howe (built about 2800 BCE, Mainland Island, Orkneys). Of course the Shetland ponies were so much fun to see as well. The only disappointment was that there was a strike among workers at the Archaeological Museum in Glasgow, so we didn't get to see some of the treasure there.

I will have to see about getting the books by Ann Cleeves. Thanks for the recommendation.

Mayaquilt your table looks like FUN!!!!!

Had a lovely lunch with friends from near and far. It's been 2 years since we were all together so there was a lot of catching up to do. Then it was to the ice cream parlor for a "Blend-in" and then to the store for some food shopping. Here are some cards I worked on this morning but didn't have time to upload before we left.

Hidden Messages: My original photos digitally altered with hidden messages hand stamped into the image. (Some are more hidden than others.) Embellished with stickers.

Thanks a lot for the invitation! Sadly, I couldn't join and midnight is just around the corner...
I actually met with my best friend and we spent a fun weekend together - and when I came home I continued cleaning/tidying/decluttering my work and craft area... hate the process, but the result is so worth it. So much space to play on when the next a-thon comes! :D

Also, love all the eye candy you girls posted! <3

08-25-2013, 07:25 PM
I think I'm done making stuff, but I still have some to trade.

Thanks for hosting, Sanna!

08-25-2013, 08:21 PM
While you all were making beautiful art, I slept the day away! The fibro kicked my butt and all I wanted to do was sleep, so that's what I did. Tippy cat decided I had had enough sleep and around 4 pm, she came along and woke me up by sitting on my chest and patting me on the cheek with her paw. Wouldn't be so bad but she puts those claws out just enough so I feel them. She's a persistent critter, too. If I don't wake up and pet her she continues until I do. My eldest son called about the time Tippy was trying to wake me so while I talked to son and helped him out with his problem, Tippy got the petting she was after. Then my mother showed up and we went to town for a little while and here I am with not a thing to share with you all.
Perhaps before midnight rolls around, I'll have something done to share and maybe even to trade!

I've totally enjoyed seeing the things you all have made! Thanks for sharing! And Happy Sunday (or Monday for some of you)!!!

08-25-2013, 08:23 PM

08-26-2013, 11:55 AM
I got stuck running errands yesterday and wasn't able to do any art, but I had a lot of fun playing on Saturday.

Thanks Sniisk!

08-26-2013, 12:29 PM
Wouldn't you know it! I could not access AFA this morning and I took the day off to do cards! Oh well, that's life. I'll be posting whatever I did in my gallery anyway.

I'll get these trades in the mail!

There is a new marathon posted for Halloween

but . . .

there is also a conversation about a possible marathon for this holiday weekend. (It's Labor day in the USA) I cannot take the lead for hosting but I can help for part of the weekend if someone else is interested in taking control and posting/managing the thread.

08-26-2013, 07:25 PM
Well, I was with you guys in spirit, but never made a lot or got anything posted. :( I had one success, one flop and one that still needs "something". Sigh. Hopefully, I'll get my good project posted soon!

08-29-2013, 03:36 PM
I have all my trades packed up and ready to be mailed except for one 4x4 chunky. I'm camping, so now have to go into the little town nearby and mail! Good to see you back, Sanna!
