I'm an envie Addict! Hopefully, there are more of you out there! What? Your a newb? What's an Envie you say? If you don't already know, Envies are altered envelopes. They can be drawn on, painted on, and collaged. Sky's the limit. Getting personal mail is nice, but getting a mini traveling museum is the best!
So here's what I propose, let's get a good sized group going for a monthly swap. It would be a nice way to get our fix of envies on a regular basis. Let's share our ideas, links to inspiration, and get to know each other as artist.

How It Works:
1)I will assign a partner for each player.
2)You will design an envie for your partner. You could use their likes and dislikes as a
guide for what you will create. However, for the most part it's artist choice.
Getting something you never seen before, is a good way to expose yourself to
new ideas/styles.
3)Envelopes at a minimum should be at least the small sized business envelope.
Which is approximately 3 5/8 - 6 1/2 inches. Other than that, it's artist choice.
Perhaps you feel like drawing and you send someone a 6x9 envelope, where as
another artist wanted to keep the envie a bit smaller. Also, if you wish to create
your own envie, by all means, do it! Use magazines, brown bags, candy wrappers.
4)You will have a month to create one envelope. That's plenty of time to cover that
baby up! Use the whole envelope. Remember it's eye candy. Draw your viewer in to
take a good long look. Add poems, quotes, rubber stamping, lino cut prints,
drawings, paintings, clippings, and anything else that will make your partner want
to experience your art.
5)So, the deadline. Envies need to be sent out two weeks before the end of the month. Communication is key, let your
partner know that you've sent out your Envie. If your going to be late, let your
partner know. We all get busy, it happens sometimes. I believe most of us are
pretty forgiving of that. If you have to withdraw, and can't complete your Envie, let me know right away. I will
cover your spot. (Let me know if you need me to cover it, or I will assume that you sent one.)
6)On a new month you will get a new partner.
7)Do not post your Envie until AFTER your partner has received it.. Let's
keep that a surprise for the receiver. When it has been received, show off your
work. It would be awesome to see what the others have gotten.
8)All Envies will be sent "Naked" meaning they will go thru the mail as is. Do not put them in another envelope. Place something sturdy like cereal or cracker boxes inside to ensure it will arrive safely.
9)Leave Itrader for your partner when Envie is received.
10)Finally, any non-communicators will be dropped from new partners list. So please, keep the lines of communication open.

* It has come to my attention that some of our International friends might be discouraged to join. The reason being is that they are afraid their Envie would get stolen. If this is the case, I would like international players to have their envie shipped in a plain envelope. Their Envie, however, must have their partners address and faux/real postage in place. (Ask your partner what they prefer)

Optional: As a bonus, I thought we could do an optional birthday Envie. If you see that it is someones birthday that month, whether they are a partner or not, send them a birthday themed Envie. Just make sure they get it on their birthday month. Again, it's just a fun bonus, but not required. :) (I won't know your birthday month unless you have it listed on your profile. If you don't want to list it on your profile, but want to receive a possible birthday envie, let me know that it is your b-day month. I will add you to the list. If you receive a Birthday Envie, Please leave "You Rock" points to the sender.

Congrats to our November Upcycled Envie winners!

Neener

Gotcha on the birthdays.

Finished a couple of those shoes and have one more coming. I made the first one like the lady in the video. I found that whole thing a little fussy with the pointy toe and all the ribbon and lace stuff. It's a cool look, but a nightmare to assemble. I don't know about anyone else, but glue lace is something I've never mastered. Never figured out what kind of glue to use. So the second one I changed a little. Rounded off the toe and made the heel come around to meet at the sides. It makes it a lot sturdier. I am thinking about maybe seeing I can get a PIF thread going for shoes. I think it would be a hoot, so sound off if you think you might be interested. I've never started a thread so I have no idea how to go about it. Will have to do my research first and it seems like I will be up to my neck in envies for a bit, so this may have to slide until next week or so. I'll post these and if anyone wants a trade for a shoe, let me know. I keep thinking it would be fun to put magnets on the back and hang one on the fridge to hold coupons or a pencil for your grocery list.

Syklops
11-01-2013, 01:33 PM
Those are really cute Neener! And I've never had much luck holding lace down with glue either :(

kwailin777
11-01-2013, 01:47 PM
OMG! Those are SO fab! I'm swamped too, I'll have to put those off for a while too. I like the PIF idea, but the cost of postage would be nuts. Perhaps they could be decorated, then shipped unassembled. The receiver would then take the ready made shoe, and assemble it them selves. Just a thought.... :)

Pikkis

Neener
11-01-2013, 03:44 PM
Here are a couple of more shoes. I'm learning as I go. The opened toe one was last. I think I nailed that one construction wise. I didn't like how floppy these were so I put a tongue depressor between the sole layers and that really sealed the deal. These are so much fun that folks may get shoes for birthdays instead of envies! As for mailing them, we could just do the top, and the sole with no depth and no heel and minimal hard embellishments. That would keep them relatively flat.

kwailin777
11-01-2013, 06:29 PM
Darn it J! I'm going to make some tomorrow. :D

Hello Addicts! I know that we just got done with Halloween, and we're barely there to Thanksgiving, but a lot of us are in the Christmas gift mode. Especially if they are going to be handcrafted. Today I wanted to share with you some tut's that will get your special gifts, wrapped up. So here goes...hope you like 'em!

Origami Bows! If your gift is going to be handmade, why not the wrapping and trappings that are on the outside of the gift? Make it a whole experience. Most people are surprised that upcycled materials can look so darn good. They are more mysterious and exciting to discover than store bought. The pictures come from www.howaboutorange.blogspot.mx (http://howaboutorange.blogspot.mx/2012/04/make-origami-bows-from-magazine-pages.html) The step by step picture tutorial comes from www.helenmade.blogspot.com

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CNAULBJlbuo/T5Dbe2_WPbI/AAAAAAAAGyc/N0Bax0aPD20/s800/magazine-origami-bow.png

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TCN7VrdgHUk/T5DbeXEAdTI/AAAAAAAAGyQ/rNQok1KR-tk/s800/diy-paper-gift-bow.png

Tag it! These are cornstarch dough tags. Yes, much like the salt dough, only smoother. You can use a stamp that has no ink on them to make a baked in impression. When they are baked you could draw, paint and stamp on them. The pictures and tut comes from www.mariegracedesigns.com (http://www.mariegracedesigns.com/marie_grace/2008/12/our-favorite-clay-ornaments.html)

http://www.mariegracedesigns.com/.a/6a00d83452a9ec69e2010536708836970b-500pi

http://www.mariegracedesigns.com/.a/6a00d83452a9ec69e2010536782d9a970c-500pi

A different tag... This one is for those of you that like to carve your own stamps and lino blocks. If you haven't got carving supplies. Think about using styrofoam and a bone folder. (Hey! it works too!) You can print your own carvings on to heavy paper, and cut around them to make tags.....or if you have a die cutting machine like Big Shot or Cuttlebug, trace out your die, and make your carving according to the shapes you have. I don't know who to credit the picture to, the person is no longer on Flickr.

Box it up.... here is where you can help save the earth, one cereal box at a time! LOL! Finished my last shoe for this round this morning. These are so addictive. I'm thinking about gifting some with notepaper in them so you could sit them on your desk. Just a thought.

kwailin777

I'm determined to get a a couple of those made today! It's my mom's birthday and I thought it would be cool to shove some truffles in them. ;)
I did the bow! J, you would be so proud, no swear words passed my lips! LOL!
Here's a pic of the bow, and some stars that I made a long while back.

kwailin777
11-02-2013, 04:37 PM
Hey J, maybe the note paper could be cut the shape of the shoe? On second thought maybe that's a bit tedious?

kwailin777
11-02-2013, 04:44 PM
*Just a little side note...the bow is fugly on the backside! You could glue something to the back if you think the receiver will keep the bow. (They better keep it, you just worked hard on it!) Or if they tear it off like a crazed animal, don't worry about it. Tee hee!

Neener
11-02-2013, 05:45 PM
Hey J, maybe the note paper could be cut the shape of the shoe? On second thought maybe that's a bit tedious?

I had that thought too and decided against it. Think I will just do some kinda rectangular sheets that will fit in there and see what it looks like.

kwailin777
11-02-2013, 05:50 PM
I'm trying this shoe thing out as we speak. Fingers crossed that I get the results you did!
*rectangles work....there are so many unusual sticky note shapes now a days, you could probably find the right fit with one.

Sitting here for, I don't know how many hours, I've created one shoe and four paper bows of different sizes. My shoe isn't complete. I thought that I had a lot of junk lying around here, and I do. Just not anything I wanna stick on my shoe. So, I give up for now. Tomorrow is another day!! :geek::yes:

Hello Addicts! I'm going to continue today with some Christmas ideas. (They don't have to be for Christmas.) I have another gift box idea, as well as gifts too.

First up is a tut on how to make a pillow box with a compact disc as your template. The picture tutorial comes from www.joyzz.com (http://www.joyzz.com/article-611.html)

Ok, this is sorta strange, but this is the sort of thing that I would give my parents for a gift. We have a weird humor, and we are old and don't get all excited about commercial gifts. My parents have a pretty big yard, and in there garden my dad built my mom a small bridge. It has no water under it. It's just a way over a garden bed from one part of the yard to the other. The summer that my dad built that bridge, I painted some Koi fish on bricks and buried them just level to the ground's surface. We found other little fish ornaments that we have hidden in plain sight, just below the bridge. I think these rock fish would be a handsome addition. But hey, they can go in a dish on a coffee table too! The artist is Alika Kalaida from www.Flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/20431976@N00/6518270215/)
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/9f/28/09/9f28094dd5f0883c3c57b57d446ee21c.jpg

For the gardener these would be a great Christmas or Mother's day gift. It's something that you could put together in a hurry if you need to. The idea and tutorial comes from www.koolerdesign.com (http://www.koolerdesign.com/fpflowerbulb.aspx)
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/39/d8/e7/39d8e7c7736218ef2d09e50c1b779106.jpg

A great gift for a guy or a gal. I wasn't able to find a tutorial for it. For those of you that are handy, you'll figure it out. In one pic I can see tiny "nail tacks" (that's just what i'm calling them, not sure or their real name.) I would accompany those nails with some wood glue. I'm interested in making these, so if I come across a good tut, i'll post it here as well. This pic comes from www.fab.com (http://fab.com/product/bare-ruler-planter-box-kit-274430)
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/bc/12/1d/bc121dfabc6100e2839f306ea9959014.jpg

Here's some more boxes.... It would be a great gift for a guy to throw his change, phone and wallet in. Maybe even keep some nuts and bolts....gee, anything a dude likes anyways! The pic comes from www.happinesscrafty.blogspot.com (http://happinesscrafty.blogspot.com/2013/02/rulers-upcycled.html)

Love those painted rocks. I have a bunch of them in little insect themes. They are all packed up now or I would show them. They are cool to put into plants as well. I love your idea of the koi under the bridge. Great!

Thanks Tandy for liking the shoes. I am having a blast with them.

I made it. Stamped an oval and embossed it with gold powder and then did fancy initials in it like a designer label. Your shoe looks great!!

Mel, How did you make the stars?

I'm sorry folks. I'll have to post the shares a little later. I had the whole thing typed out, I hit the submit button and all of it was lost. I got booted from the site, and I can't seem to get back on via my comp. (using my phone right now to access AFA.) I have to run an errand, then hopefully I can get a share together.

Hello Addicts! The share that I had put together were all about holiday decorations, but I've lost track where a few of those shares are, so today, it's all about stars. Tracy was asking me, "How do you make Origami stars?" Here is a picture tutorial and a few ways to use/display them....
First the tut! It comes to you from Minna May Blog

Video Tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4Woj9oP3AI)

Check out all the color and sizes! I got the picture from Pinterest, but can't find the original website.

A lot of people like to put them in jars as gifts to friends. Picture from www.Favim.com (http://favim.com/image/522263/)
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/4e/92/0c/4e920cf1327ec141fdbd0fa9244ec33e.jpg

You could fill other things too... The picture comes from www.craftgawker.com (http://craftgawker.com/post/2011/11/11/26274/)

You can even use them to class up a table. The picture and tut comes from www.youcancallmemegwen.typepad..com (http://youcancallmegwen.typepad.com/you-can-call-me-gwen/2012/12/diy-christmas-centerpiece-ornaments-almost-free-christmas-centerpiece-and-ornaments.html)

By the way, you don't need to buy special paper for those stars. You can buy them in a small pad of strips at places like Sanrio and Hello Kitty. However, you can use standard copy paper, or anything that is a light weight paper. (Think of Gelli printed papers!) I've made these stars with 1/4 to half inch widths and 11 inch lengths. If you have a paper trimmer, the cutting will go quickly.

Oh! Guess what I saw at the store today! I was buying some chocolate to put in my mom's shoe.....<-----What?! That should make sense to most of you! LOL! Anyways, I saw these bars of chocolate that look like letters! Who knew that they made special chocolates for Envie Addicts!! I grabbed one and told my eldest son that I had to get one, so that I could show ya'll what it looks like. He said, "Mom you know that you can just take a picture, you don't have to buy it." Sheesh! Can't even have an excuse for chocolate! I got one anyways...tee hee. It supposedly has a love poem on the inside, but I haven't opened it yet, so I don't know what it says...ah a mystery! Here's what one flavor looks like....:chatterbox:

Sandy, I was hoping I would find one at Goodwill too, but I've been searching forever. I got a pretty good deal on the Rolodex I won on Ebay. It's a vintage v-file style. I paid a smidge over 15 dollars. It's suppose to come today!! So excited!!
Siena, I know what you mean. It seems like I say this to myself all the time. "So many projects, so little time."

Hello Addicts! I have a few random things to share. These four things are what I found while browsing Pinterest.

A couple of days ago I shared about painted rock fish. I saw this rock, and thought it was super cool. I can't remember where I saw it, probably from one of Tandy's shares. There is an artist that will take trash from the street. Usually it's a soda can. He would paint some really awesome art on it, then leave it on the ground for someone else to discover. Some people kept it, while others ignored it. This rock that I'm showing you would be cool to hide in plain sight to surprise someone. It was sold on Etsy by jayyesselman
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/63/b3/b1/63b3b176e3d8ecc0a25ebba210eba4ca.jpg

No tut for this one... but maybe you can think of ways on how to tackle this upcycled project. If it where me, I would fold strips of paper in half and lay them down like roof tile. One layer overlapping the other layer by a smidge. I suppose you could do this on foam balls from the craft store. Which can be expensive! I can think of two more economical ways. #1 use old Christmas ornaments, or #2 buy a light weight sports ball. Whatever kind comes in a combo pack. The ones in the pic come from www.sparkliving.com (http://www.sparkliving.com/Decor-Accessories/Objects-Accessories/Confetti-Paper-Ornaments-p357.html#.UJ_-yIYhWSo?medium=HardPin&source=Pinterest&campaign=type9&ref=hardpin_type9#utm_campaign=type9&utm_medium=HardPin&utm_source=Pinterest)
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/88/85/f9/8885f9ba942685db1a546dea07f42948.jpg

Book mark collections can grow. Especially if you are trading for them on AFA. A lot of us like the unique shape to art on, but never end up using them for their purpose. I saw this pic and thought that it would be a great way to make it a cohesive collection. A couple of binder rings will do the trick. The picture and art comes from www.Flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/gycouture/4197582858/in/faves-lesbrumes/) by Gycouture[design]

I'm still thinking of stars. Here is another origami star tut. I haven't tried it yet, but I do plan on giving it a go soon. Let me know if you beat me to it. I'd like to have a peek.

Hello addicts! Today I'm going to focus the shares on the little things. Special little things that sometimes hold the biggest part of our heart. <-----dang! That's some good coffee that I'm drinking! Where did that come from? I need to work at Hallmark! LOL! JK! Anyways, here are some sweet ideas to accompany some of your gifts this year, or a fist full of goodness to give alone. Most of these ideas do not have tuts, but you should be able to figure them out yourself. At the very least, it'll spark your imagination. :)

Tracy shared some peg people yesterday. Here's the same idea, with a different style. It may even be a clothes pin. It comes from Enchantedbelles on www.Flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/45668598@N08/5153456575/in/pool-860386@N22/)
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/3a/b8/ee/3ab8ee9b3a98c49a175e9f695ac96047.jpg

This 'lil guy is so freaking cute! Little acorns that you could wear or hang up in a tree. The picture and idea comes from Lisa Jordan of lilfishstudios on www.flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lilfishstudios/6477317401/in/pool-93628034@N00)
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/7b/f8/36/7bf8369e77503647bfd693c6ef440fb6.jpg

From the same artist, thimble art. I luv the little felted mushrooms, but you could do just about anything on these cute vintage thimbles. I can see these wrapped up in little origami boxes.
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/38/17/b6/3817b6d97a04013925c4ee0a48a1557f.jpg

My favorite of the shares today....This is just so ADORABLE! (I know I'm nuts, no pun intended.) I'm gonna buy a bag of walnuts just so that I can make a few of these. It looks as though the hinge is just a part of the lace holing it together. Perhaps you can buy those tiny magnet clasps to keep it closed. Think of all the tiny things that could be placed in there! A good place to stow a tiny charm for sure. The picture and idea comes from www.pixiewinksfairywhispers.tumblr.com (http://pixiewinksfairywhispers.tumblr.com/post/19351089791/its-the-small-things-that-seem-to-be-cherished)

Well Mel I have to say that you are a smarter person than I. I decided to try one of those bows. Hours ago... Three went in the trash can and I threw the directions across the room. Then I got smart and reverse engineered one of the ones you sent and Bingo! The light bulb came on. I realized I wasn't so much stupid as the directions weren't all that clear when it came to that first cut. Thank you my friend!

kwailin777
11-08-2013, 01:14 PM
LOL! I guess I should have mentioned that I didn't cut the tails. I simply tucked the ends back into themselves. If I were there in person to show how they are made, it certainly would have been a super easy process to learn. Origami is a bit tricky to learn off of pictures, and even vids at times.

I tucked the ends too like you did. My problem was the cut that made the tails in the first place. That I used a 3 x 3 piece of paper. Too tiny.

kwailin777
11-08-2013, 01:33 PM
Yipes! 3x3?! Yeah, that'll make you bonkers! The smallest I did was a 4x4. Nice thing about it is that you can do any size, just as long as the paper is square.

Hi Everyone!
I'm late for the party but count me in for November!
Mel, was right. My son kidnapped me again! For nine days this time!!! I apparently only thought about telling you all I would be away for awhile. Sorry bout that!
Just got home a few hours ago. The boy said he would call me at 5 in the morning to see if I ever made it to bed after being away from my computer so long! Will have to clean my bed off before I can even think about climbing into it. Everything I brought home with me is piled on it at that moment! He may find me still awake at 5 in the morning.

I had a few pages to read back on ..... I've sent Will a PM. Sorry to keep you hanging!

Wow, you all have shown some awesome tutorials and inspirations in my time away! Those shoes are fabulous!
The origami bows were put on my list to. I've made the stars before. Any old paper that's thin enough will work, just as Mel said!
Rock fishes are extremely cool! I bought some black river stones awhile back...I see fishes in my future!
The little ruler boxes are neat too. My mom has one made from a yard stick that she has hanging on the door-jam between her livingroom and kitchen. She uses it to house tiny little knick knacks. It's only about an inch and half wide with a shelf every inch or so. I've no clue where she got it. Knowing Ma, she might of made it herself. (She built three full size bookshelves while I was away this time. Keep in mind, my mother is 77 years old! She never has acted her age though!)

Those round paper balls are on my list also! I'll hunt around and see if I can find the tut on how to make a ball out of plastic trash that wouldn't cost you anything but the tape to hold it together. I'll post it in the next day or two. In that tut she covers those balls with junk jewelry and the like. (Another inspiration!)

The Dress Up Kitty is adorable! I'd try to make one for my granddaughter but she wouldn't play with it! She's not a dolly kinda girl. Her baby dolls get very little loving. She's four and would rather play with her brother's cars and trucks than her own toys. Give her some art materials though and she'll sit for hours coloring, cutting and as she calls it, 'taking notes'. She doesn't know how to make all her letters yet, but that doesn't stop her from trying. For some reason she absolutely LOVES strings too! I taught her how to tie knots while I was visiting. I can't remember how many times she tied the refrigerator doors closed in the time I was there!

Those little felted mushrooms are adorable too! And the little walnut!!!!! I have a walnut that has a little baby in it with a tiny blue blanket. It's older than dirt! (As my mother always says about old things!) It doesn't have a hinge holding the lid on though. It has a rubber band holding the halves together. The baby is made of china of some sort. It was in the bottom of a big box of books I bought at an auction some years ago.

So many projects......so little time........

And on top of all the great inspiration, you all have shared some fabulous envies as well. I always enjoy seeing the altered envies....all so different from one another!

Thanks to Cassie and Pikkis for the elephants for October! I do love me some ellies! My herd is reaching the 300 mark. I'm really only guessing at that number. I haven't counted them in years! Last count there were close to 280 of them. I brought three more home from my travels. Gifts from my sister. I've collected elephants for years! Not even sure how that collection started but everyone I know always gives me ellies for gifts. I lost the bulk of the collection in a house fire back in 2005. It numbered almost 500 back then.

Sorry for the novel! Happy November Everyone!

Hello Addicts! I've got some shares that expand on some of the ideas already shared, and some new things that you can make into gifts. Here goes, hope you like 'em!

More clothes pin gals. These little lasses are adorable! Hope that some of you will make them. Post them if you do. (Yes, 'cause you know that I'm nosy!) I can't find the original website, but it's by My Sweet Imaginations.
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/d2/af/2f/d2af2f50d668d7da5c687d9091b93e96.jpg

Those clothes pins look altered. I don't have a tut for those dolls, but with this next pic from Pretty Ditty of www.etsy.com (http://www.etsy.com/listing/63066123/pin-doll-stands-peg-doll-clothespin-doll) You can see that they probably sawed down the top of the pin, and glued on a wood ball. At the base they added that wood cap thang to make it stand.
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/14/7e/8f/147e8f9ddee12820a4ff04a6d49c92b3.jpg

It's time to raid your junk, or to go to the flea market, 'cause this is the coolest shadow box ever! The art comes from Stephanie Rubiano at www.flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/7785891@N03/1664216845/in/set-72157608518196336/)

I think it's safe to say that we all like to reuse maps. Here is another way to use them...and hmmm...an old clock too. The idea and tut comes from www.whilewearingheels.com (http://whilewearingheels.blogspot.com/2012/05/timeless-clock-tutorial.html)

Cool Sandy. We just got a Hobby Lobby and I was in there earlier in the week. I think their prices are high compared to Michaels. I went there first to browse the sale items and didn't get much. Went to Michaels next and came home with a couple of bags of goodies. Similar stuff but at least 2,00 cheaper on sale. Will check both places and grabs some pins and such and see what I can come up with.

Well I'm hoping to use the 40 % coupon. It might take multiple trips but it will save a few bucks. I do think hobby Lobby has higher prices. You kind of HAVE to shop their sales in order to get a good deal. They do run good sales. I wish they had a teacher discount like Joann's and micheals do. My rule is never pay full price...sometimes it means waiting.

Ha, B-day Envies... just know that mine will always be late! That will be the constant that you can count on in me! LOL! But, I think it's nice to have RAK strewn out through the month don't you? Just when you least expect it, there it is. (At least, that's what I tell my self when I'm late!)
Micheal's, Joann's, Hobby Lobby.... I agree with Tracy, HL is cheaper than M here. At my M you can only use one coupon as well as HL. As Sandy was saying, you have to shop HL sale days. (You can get awesome deals that way.) Joann's in my area is also a great money saver because you can use as many coupons as you want, but my J isn't stocked so well. I went to a couple of Joann's in Washington state and they had just about everything! Also, if you folks have smart phones, or phones that can get apps, get all three stores apps! They are very useful. I use it all the time.....it gives you coupons and especially for HL it tells you what is on sale. I never buy water color paper at full price. Shopping the sale will save your coupon on a non sale item.
Military, today thru the 15th is an awesome time to buy at Joanns! Anyone with a military ID, active, retired, dependent, can get an aditional 20% off their entire purchases. Which means with coupons, you are saving sometimes a whopping 60%!! Take advantage of getting things like Copics or die cuts...etc!

Hello Everyone!

I wish there were a craft store close by to me. I always hit HL when I get kidnapped my son. He downloaded their ap to his phone just so I could use the 40% coupon. The closest Micheal's or Joanne's is in Wichita which is another 60 miles from his house. He lives almost 200 miles from my house so I ALWAYS go to HL when I go to his house! And I always spend too much!

Here's the tut on how to make a ball with plastic waste and tape. I know some of you have probably already seen this as this tut comes from Jenniebellie and I know I've seen you all mention her before.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEYXlC767YQ

This is what I did with some of the balls I made using her tut:

The wool embroidered ball is actually a rattle. I put two plastic bottle caps, taped together with metal bits inside of them, inside layers of plastic trash (similar to what is used in the tut). I covered the plastic ball with crochet cotton and then scraps of fleece which I then embroidered the whole thing. I made a few of these with different types of fabric for the covering. Most of them are wool.

She puts junk jewelry all over her balls (and they do look fab!). I used googly eyes to cover a small one and seed beads to cover one a tad bit larger than the googly eyed one.

You can make these balls any size you like. The wool ball is about tennis ball size. The other two are a bit smaller. To get the hanger on them, just tape it into the last layer of plastic.

And lastly is the little walnut baby I talked about last post. I was mistaken in saying it had a tiny blue blanket. The blanket is obviously tan, not blue!

I had thee best day! I got to use all of my coupons at Joann's! I had two 60% off and two 40% off, plus the military 20% off of the total! I bought some more Spectrum Noir pens, a yarn knitting loom thingy, some yarn (of course) ...thee only downer....the LONG LONG line. Then I did my dreaded grocery shopping, but I ran into a very good friend of mine. (Which almost never happens 'cause I haven't lived here long enough!) It was like a mini reunion. :) It totally made me forget everything that I needed to buy, but I don't care. I'm just glad that I bumped into her. :) Then I went home to drop everything off. Told my eldest that I was kinda bummed because Joann's didn't have Copic markers. I need a new one because I used up my flesh colored one...hmmm and ruined the tip by drawing thru some stuff that wasn't good for it! Anyhow, my son felt bad for me and drove me to Hobby Lobby. So, more good news....they had pretty much the exact color I needed in a Prisma color pen, that I was looking for in a Copic. The Prisma's are cheaper, and I used my coupon! Woot! I also bought a set of flesh colored pencils for 1.99 at 30% off. Yipee! Sheesh, I need to come down from this art adrenaline rush! LOL!

Joann's lets you do multiple transactions 3 per person. I did 2 and my hubby did 2 we each had 2 60% off coupons. Sweet deal. I really love my Joann's they are always willing to help you get the best deals. I've had a cashier swipe all available coupons on her own to get me the best deal. Sounds like Mel and Idolores both got their art supply fix for the day! And what great fun to run into an old friend in the grocery store too!

I got a RAK envie from Mel the other day that I forgot to mention last night. I took it out of the mailbox the night I got home from my son's house. Love the crowned lady! Thanks so much Mel!

I ran across a package of page protectors I didn't even know I had while cleaning in the cutting room last night and I'm going to use them to store my altered envies. Now to get the sewing machine to cooperate....sewing machines hate me!

I should explain what the cutting room is. I live alone so the whole house (three bedrooms) is the art studio essentially. I paint on the kitchen table, do collage work in the deskroom where the computer lives (as does my light table and several shelves) and the cutting room is where my guillotine cutter and all the paper supplies live along with the overflow of beads and baubles and all that other stuff I can't live without....you know, the stuff you can't throw out cause it might come in handy someday! And I do all my sewing in the livingroom (unless I feel the need to fight with the sewing machine and then I sew in the kitchen).
This evening I am working on a mermaid for my newest fish picture. I'll share when I get that fish picture done. The mermaid is made out of a generic barbie doll. We'll see how she ends up in the next couple of days.
Happy Monday everyone!

I didn't think that the bead was suppose to fit over anything. I thought you could just wood glue/hot glue the bead to the clothes pin. The only altering that I saw on one of the pics was the flattening of the top of the clothes pin so that the head could rest on it. I'm sure there are many different ways to do these dolls. If you make up a new way, you never know....you might start a new thang.

You could just carve down the round circle that is on the top of the clothes pin to make it narrower and pointy. This would give you more of a neck.

I'm so happy :) went to my local dollar store and they have a small section for crafty stuff, some beads and white glue, double-sided adhesive, and some other things that are in our craft stores very expensive, and there I saw, masking tape, 4 different designs and each 1€, I wanted so long a washi tape, but couldn't pay a lot of money. Soooo happy :) I know it sounds wired, but you would understand if you didn't have Hobby Lobby, Michales, Dolar tree :D

Hello Addicts! I'm going to slow down on the shares. It sorta feels like everyone is enjoying their doll, shoe, and Envie making. I don't want to pile more project ideas that we probably won't get to enjoy. So, I'm re-sharing Tandy's share! (Hope that's cool with you T.)

First up, Clothespin & Peg Doll board from Pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/tandyanderson/clothespin-peg-dolls/)

Second, Paper Doll board from Pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/tandyanderson/paper-dolls/)

Oh my gosh... after seeing your boards T, it hit me. We should have a Envie Addicts board!

I see it as a glorified bookmark. Stuff and ideas you find online get pinned "bookmarked" they become easy to search and find for future reference.

You can think of Pinterest as an online photo album (but mostly of other peoples photos). You can use it as an inspiration board, a wish list, for reference photos, etc. You create "boards" (which you can think of as folders like the ones on your computer) to organize the items you "pin" (tag or bookmark). The best part is you can pin items from any website and it will put it on your designated board so all of your items are in one place to refer back to as often as you wish.

Juanita, your not the only one! I just had to PM Tandy cause making the Envie Addict board has got steam coming outta my ears! LOL! I'm still learning it myself. If you want to get started with it, I suggest doing the free sign up. You know the deal...make a Pinterest username and password. Then you can look at their homepage and <3 things, which will, like Sandy says, bookmark it for you. If you wanna be even more organized you can make a board. Think of it as a bulletin board. You can title it, for example, arts and crafts, then pin all your arts and crafts on it...etc....The site also has different categories that you can view, so that you can pin to your personal boards.

...hope that i didn't confuse you more....

Alrighty, we have ourselves a Pinterest Board. Just a place that we can see what our fellow addicts have done. If Tracy or I has missed anyone please let either of us know we'll get ya up there. Don't be shy in letting us know! Also, don't feel bad if you "think" we have forgotten you. My comp and inexperience had me thinking I was pinning things, but I wasn't! Some of you haven't got Envies or postcards up, so at the last minute I decided to post some of your ATC's just so that you were represented in the group. :) Hope you'll enjoy it. Thanks so much for starting the pinterest board! I've already started following it! I saw a few that I had received, but none that I had made....no big deal, but it's kinda fun to see your own stuff being shown off to the world!

I'm really enjoying all the altered envelopes shown in the thread in the last few days. I never fail to be amazed! I got out my thesaurus to find some new words. Actually I got out the rhyming dictionary first, thinking it was the thesaurus...walked all the way from one end of the house to the other before I realized it was the wrong book and had to head back to the other end of the house!
Here are a few descriptive words to help us all out!

remarkable, outstanding, extraordinary, superior, notable, noticeable, conspicuous, striking, noteworthy, marvelous, wonderful, formidable, exceptional, uncommon, astonishing, fabulous, fantastic, incredible

and if you take any of those words, look them up in the thesaurus, you'll come up with many more! Thanks for inspiring me to dust off the thesaurus! It's not been opened in quite a few months! That's how long it has been since I've written any poetry to speak of.

I told you all I was working on a mermaid for my newest fish picture. She's almost ready to be attached to the canvas! She's a wild one! I need to make a few fishes beings I can't find the fishes I already made to go on that canvas and then I'll share the finished picture. I don't think it will be one of my favorite fish pictures, but it isn't up to me to be the judge of whether it is a good one or a bad one. That's up to the viewer! If I fiddle with it too long, no one will like it!

Happy Creating, whatever you're working on!

Donna, your so kewl! Thanks for the extra words. tee hee. I have added you to the board as well...sorry about that. I did start off going in order, but I was doing things wrong in the beginning anyways. Everyone will end up on that board. Even now as I speak I see that Tandy has added a ba-gillion more pics! LOL! I think when she's though, she will have every Envie ever made from any of us up there! LOL! :biglaugh:

If you addicts can place you future Envies/postcards in the "mail art traded" or "mail art available" section of your gallery, it would make it a lot easier to find what we need for the board. Thank you.

11-14-2013, 10:23 AM
Hey Addicts! No it's not my day to share, but I do want to add on to our group's repertoire. I'd like to add on postcards as an excepted part of our trades. I do a lot of Envie folding, so I was thinking to myself, "Self, why are we folding these when there is almost always nothing in the middle?" With everything there are rules. Please be sure to use sturdy paper. Bristol and heavy watercolor paper do nicely. I've used them many times. I'm kind of excited about doing postcards as well, because it gives me a chance to add things that I wouldn't on an Envie. ....I send my postcards in those plastic fold and seal pouches/bags. It allows me to add things like Baker's Twine, fibers, ...flat things that would otherwise have gotten caught and because they are clear, everything can still be seen.. So, I hope that you will be happy with this extra option. Here are some that I have done in the past....
