EraserQueen
01-30-2014, 03:51 PM
What are peoples going to bring??

Is anyone coming via Plane? What is allowed (or not) might be useful for others to know? I'm driving, but not sure how many others are!

I am bringing:

watercolor tray (dried on palette)
ATC blanks Smooth Bristol and watercolor paper
ATC Sleeves
Markers
mechanical Pens
paint brush kit
pencil and eraser
colored pencils
Premade ATCs to trade (about 25)
Premade 4x4s (about 5)
Premade Inchies ( about 15)
ATC binder
Heat gun (because I have the patience of a fruit fly)

Amerasu
01-30-2014, 05:40 PM
I'm bringing pre-made ATCs for sure. That's all I know!

I'll probably fill a plastic 4 drawer thing with markers, pencils and various painting supplies. Whatever fits is what comes with me. I don't really want to lug anything around beyond that.

EraserQueen
01-30-2014, 05:48 PM
I think something vertical would be a good idea Sal! Last time I felt like I had to "spread out" too much, it's easier to have a stacked container at my feet I can grab stuff from.

What kind of art storage containers do you guys have?

AnitaM
01-30-2014, 06:39 PM
Okay so I just got back from Artzona and had a blast. I'm still a very BIG maybe. I'll know more in the next month or so :)

goatgoddess
01-31-2014, 11:16 AM
in the past I brought too much - so going to par it down this go round - but not sure yet what - most likely markers and pencils - love collage but have to carry too much to do it.

plus I really don't end up doing all that much art there out side of the classes. <G> too busy running around and talking.

Amerasu
01-31-2014, 09:16 PM
I think you're missing SilverSweet! She's on the ready to go list at iATCs but not here!

Laffqueen

Just got back from Artzona. LURVED IT!!!! It was my second year in a row. I'm a devotee for sure. Rochester is a definite for me. I'll be flying. Do we have a hotel yet? I always take way too much stuff. But I'll bring cards to trade and signature cards for sure.
I hope some of my Artzona friends will be coming too.

EraserQueen
02-02-2014, 10:24 AM
Purple Pencil! Yay for Family near art meet-ups LOL

LaffQ: YAY. Yes, we do have a hotel and I just signed all the contracts last Friday! The Reservations manager was sick that day, but I am getting the registration link and number on Monday. I'll post the registration information on Monday as well, and folks can start the registration process then! *Is so excited*

Laffqueen
02-02-2014, 12:53 PM
any idea of the timing of the event. I want to buy my tickets this weekend ( prices are at an all time low) and I didn't know if I should plan to get in early on the 7th or later in the day and what time does the event end on the 10th?

EraserQueen
02-02-2014, 01:03 PM
Laff:
Thursday the room will be open to all at about 4pm. We need to vacate the room on Sunday by 4pm.

I would have posted this earlier, but only just finalized info with the hotel. More information will be available Monday evening! :jiggy:

native killette

Throw me down as a maybe! I could definitely drive to Rochester!

native killette
02-05-2014, 10:05 AM
Okay not a maybe! I'm going! This will be my first Art for All! It's okay if I get a room outside of the reserved block right? I'm bringing my son & hubby. Bonding time for them while i craft. Make it a mini vacation.

Also if there is anything you need for supplies or goody bags let me know, I work at a craft supply store. :)

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 11:55 AM
NK: Yay! We need to fill 80% of our block, or we (I) need to pay for rooms that don't get sold. So I would ask that people please reserve rooms through our link, (unless they really, really can't - we still want people to come!), because that keeps expenses low! :jiggy:

Or I could be misunderstanding you? - one room for you and another for your husband and son? The rooms in our block have two beds and kids under 18 are free :)

native killette
02-05-2014, 12:00 PM
I would love to get one in the block but it said on the blog up to two people, but it's me, hubby, toddler and my sister is a possible, she's a member though. We can all fit in one room but it said up to two on the blog. On the hotel website it said up to 4 though.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding?

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 12:13 PM
The hotel may charge a small amount for more than a certain number of adults in one room. I will lock down what that number is today - there should be a number conflict! If the Hyatt website says four, that woud mean four adults. Kids under 18 are free, it says.

If you can give me a link to where is says four, I will use that when I contact Alanna and Trvannia at the hotel! Thank you!

I will ask for the info today! :)

native killette
02-05-2014, 12:22 PM
http://m.hyatt.com/mt/rochester.hyatt.com/en/hotel/rooms.html

It says max guests per room: 4 but it doesn't say if its for an additional fee.

I'm really pumped. Are we doing workshops?

goatgoddess
02-05-2014, 12:34 PM
ok trying to figure out the times and such - will be signing up shortly

and what to see in the area <g>

saw the falls - they were great! but this time I was thinkng about the 1000 Island area - there is Boldt and Singer Castles - anyone up for it? what day would be good for site seeing? Sunday? it is just under 3 hours to drive up.

http://www.usboattours.com/1000islands/

or is there something better? closer?

..

native killette
02-05-2014, 01:25 PM
Torie.staples is also a go, I'm not sure when were registering. I have to pay up front for the room, not after like usual? And it doesn't matter when I register as long as its by June 15? I just need some time to get the finances in order.

Sorry about all the questions.

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 01:43 PM
No! Questions are good! :jiggy:

I reserved my room already and they haven't charged my credit card. I believe they wait until after you've stayed there the first night because if they charged you, and you decided to cancel, it would be a hassle. The site says you jave 24 before the first night to cancel, or they charge you for one room.

And yes! you can register for the event whenever you guys want before June 15th when the fee goes up - just be aware that there IS a space limit  and I can't really guarantee that there will be spots open by that point!

Yay for bringing sisters! I am bringing my mom, and she is like a sister :)

native killette
02-05-2014, 03:26 PM
How much space is available? And I should probably call and ask about the hotel because I can give them my card no problem, there just won't be money in there yet.

So I should probably swing for registration first?

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 03:43 PM
Regarding Space: There is some left! I cannot say how long it will take to fill up - best to swing for the registration first!

native killette
02-05-2014, 03:58 PM
Well how much is some!? I can't afford it this week and probably not next week either. :(

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 04:05 PM
I think you will be okay if you wait a few weeks!! Beyond that I really don't want to make promises I can't keep though, then you'll be mad at me lol. :(

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 04:08 PM
GG: Sunday would be good for sight seeing! or Thursday morning or even Wednesday... There are some AWESOME museums a short drive from the Hotel even!

dina54
02-05-2014, 05:23 PM
I have just checked out airfare from Providence, RI to Rochester, and Southwest has a one way (assuming Hubby will pick me up on the motorcycle) for $97.00. Now I just have to figure out what day to arrive. I can come Wednesday if you need help setting up. Only problem is that I don't rent a car; I barely drive when I am home, nevermind in a "strange" place! Will you be at the hotel Wednesday Annie?

EraserQueen
02-05-2014, 05:30 PM
Dina, yes I will be! not sure what time yet, but around 12noon-3pm probably. There is also free shuttle service at the hotel, you just need to call them - they offer it between 6am and 11pm. Mom and I are happy to take you along on Food and supply runs :)

dina54
02-05-2014, 05:37 PM
LOL, I am SOOOO impatient. Just PM'd you.

dina54
02-07-2014, 04:55 AM
I must have posted this on the OLD thread:
I need a room mate(s). I would like to reserve a room this weekend. I plan on arriving Wednesday, to help EQ set up Thursday, and I will be staying until at least Sunday.
Anyone who is arriving Thursday interested? You wouldn't have to come Wed. (I will pay full price for that night).

goatgoddess
02-07-2014, 09:09 AM
Thanks EraserQueen - saw most of that last time I was there <G> the gardens outside the kids play museums are so nice and I enjoyed the doll display.

EraserQueen
02-07-2014, 10:34 AM
LOL, I was sick last time and didn't get to see much there!

There is also: Artisan Works: http://www.artisanworks.net/home.php Which looks super amazing!

native killette

native killette
02-08-2014, 01:12 PM

native killette
02-08-2014, 09:14 PM
Can we have a leave & take table? For art supplies & ATC's?

dina54
02-10-2014, 12:50 PM
Airfare purchased. Still have to reserve room. Waiting on the Hubby's plans on when he will be picking me up (Sunday or Monday).

EraserQueen
02-10-2014, 07:15 PM
NK: Yes! I want to have a table for the collaborative canvases (everyone works on them and then they are "raffled" off at the end!) So, we can use that table for a Leave & Take.

Dina: YAY!!!

EraserQueen
02-10-2014, 07:17 PM
Is anyone interested in giving brief demos at all? I will probably demo something.. not sure what yet!

rkolig
02-10-2014, 07:44 PM
The dates work for me! Yay!

I need a roomie and yes, I snore. Or so I've been told. Hubby says its mostly a quiet snore, but then there is the occasional snerk. :twitcy: Anyone else still need a roomie?

I'm driving, so who knows what I'll be bringing.

GG, I've been to Boldt Castle. Its quite interesting. They were still restoring the insides when I was there but it was still a great self guided tour. You get to tromp all over.

And the 1000 Island Region is just gorgeous.

EraserQueen
02-10-2014, 07:56 PM
YAY MARY! It will be fun to see you again :) I have to tell my mom you're coming - she will be there too!

I have never heard of Boldt Castle...Must go google it...

native killette
02-10-2014, 08:39 PM
I'm registered, do you shoot out an email for PayPal? My boyfriend got the money together! SO EXCITED!

And I would love to demo something but not sure what people would be interested in? I'll give it a think and list some things I know how to do!

EraserQueen
02-10-2014, 10:12 PM
NK: YAY for awesome boyfriends!

native killette
02-10-2014, 10:31 PM
I can do a really quick make your own washi tape demo? And a simple spray ink background demo? They're both quick and I can show you how to make your own spray ink (alcohol & food coloring!)

EraserQueen
02-11-2014, 01:56 PM
Oh, SWEET! I would love to learn how to do that! I think we can commandeer the Bring and take table for the demos :D

MorahLaura
02-12-2014, 09:46 AM
Oh my it's only 5 hours from my house. I'd really like to go. I mean, when will it be so close again?? I'm just not sure I can afford it, but I'm at least putting it on my calendar!

I would so love to meet you Laura...I am hoping oi come if I can find a flight cheaper than $500!

I wish I could find a flight that cheap...I would grab itimmediately!

Laffqueen
02-12-2014, 01:50 PM
My round trip was about $225.

native killette
02-12-2014, 03:47 PM
Sheesh I wonder where she got one for so cheap! Connecticut isn't that far away! Yikes. Worth it though? I think so. :)

AnitaM
02-12-2014, 04:05 PM
:cry::cry: Got prices for flights nearly 900 I'm afraid you'll have play without me this time.

dina54
02-12-2014, 05:04 PM
Does anyone know a phone number for the person at the hotel who is taking care of the reservations?

dina54
02-12-2014, 05:07 PM
My round trip was about $225.

I paid $97.00 ONE WAY with Southwest's Gotta Get Away program out of Providence, so with taxes, round trip would have been just about the same.

dina54
02-12-2014, 05:26 PM
I AM ALL SET! Registration, airfare paid and room reserved!

native killette
02-12-2014, 05:45 PM
I just called the hotel and mentioned Art For All to the guy.

Aww Anita!

:cry::cry: Got prices for flights nearly 900 I'm afraid you'll have play without me this time.

Unless the prices drop from Cali, Cali...I might have to take a raincheck on this one, too. What the heck is up with air fare?

rkolig
02-13-2014, 08:32 AM
I'm holding off on booking a room until I figure out the roomie situation but will send in registration in the next couple of days.

I suppose I could do 2 days without one, but that would be max. I'd prefer to stay the whole time.

EraserQueen
02-13-2014, 10:46 AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Why are the airfare gods DOING THIS TO US?????

MorahLaura
02-13-2014, 11:03 AM
What the heck is up with air fare?

Fuel prices, I'd suspect. The airfare goes up when oil prices go up, and then lag behind when fuel prices drop. I'd drive (10 hours round trip would be about a week's worth of gas), but first I'll have to save up for registration and a night in the hotel.

AnitaM
02-13-2014, 04:42 PM
School holidays start here in July/August so fares get hiked :(

EraserQueen
02-17-2014, 05:15 PM

Anyone else have any cool ideas???

02-18-2014, 04:13 PM

EQ I sent in a registration just waiting further instruction. :notworthy::D:wub::goofy::yes::shocked:

malicea10
02-18-2014, 04:16 PM
Watch the air fares as we get closer, sometimes/most of the time they drop because they have to sell the seats if the plane is not that full. Look on Hipmunk and Trip Advisor. Right now my price is $475.00 From Denver.

EraserQueen
02-18-2014, 06:07 PM
YAY Mary! I have responded :D

That is good info on the airfare. I hope it will help some folks!

Laffqueen
02-18-2014, 06:38 PM
Ok..my flight is on Delta. The flights are non stop both ways( around 1 hour 20 minutes) and the total with taxes etc is $245. Driving is about well over 6 hours each way. This was well worth it.

nanner
02-18-2014, 09:14 PM

native killette
02-19-2014, 12:52 PM
That's badass! Was this sort of transportation expensive? :biglaugh:

EraserQueen
02-19-2014, 01:02 PM
It was free, that's how I could afford it: they only caveat is that she has to sing Jailhouse Rock and Blue Suede Shoes for 42 hours straight. ...It keeps the mules running....

goatgoddess

EraserQueen
02-19-2014, 09:01 PM

Oh LADIES! I am so excited!!!!!! I heard back and they are most gracious and generous and will be sending a few out for door prizes! She wants to know what sizes we would like.. What do you think?
from Lou Ann:

Hi Mary,
We can send a few gelli plates for door prizes if that helps.

Let me know what size plate makes the most sense.

6x6, 8x10, 12x14, 8” round.

Lou Ann

YAY! You are so awesome! Thank you! 8" rounds, the 6x6 squares and the 8x10 rectangles sounds fun? The other might be too big? :D

Maybe we can raffle them off Friday night so people have a chance to watch the lucky winners play with them ;)

So I asked a while back, but are we planning any themed trades to have done a head of time or do we bring in stuff to trade that's already done? Or do we just trade what we make there?

EraserQueen
03-28-2014, 02:54 PM
It's kind of hard to do themed trades, from my experience - mostly people just make a lot of items to trade before hand and trade them there, and personal trades are also arranged during the meet up, based on what people want to trade for.

For example, If I like something that you made and wanted it, but I didn't have anything you wanted - I would offer to make you a custom card. :)

native killette
03-29-2014, 06:34 PM
Okay I wasn't sure how it went, I've read some of the other live swap threads, but I couldn't find out how they made that work.

EraserQueen
03-29-2014, 08:12 PM
I purchased some 8x10 collaborative canvasses - those are fun! We all take turns decorating them, and then they are raffled off to people! You can also bring your own 8x10 (or smaller) and ask people to pass it around to work on for you - and you can work on theirs :)

Lost Cities

At ArtZona there was some trading of hearts for folks who were inclined ... maybe half the group did it? I made enough hearts to potentially trade with every attendee, and ended up trading some for other things too. Only a few came back home with me.

Perhaps some theme that a significant number of people groove on could be nominated? Our preferences listed in our profiles may reveal where we have some synergy within the group. But definitely, definitely it should be optional!

Why don't I make a new thread so we can have a place to organize these kinds of activities??? :jiggy:

Thanks to all who have filled out the survey so far! I am hoping to use your feedback to help with planning the next ArtChester.

I too would have liked more demos, but no one volunteered to give any except me and one other and neither of us really know what anyone wanted to see LOL - you guys are too modest, I learned something from all of you!

I will make sure that activities also have sign ups for next time, then the person hosting the activity knows who is playing and people who want to participate in any organized swaps know how many items to make!!

XOXOXO Thank you, guys!!!!
