Hello fellow artist!
There are so many fabulous art events going on. I wish that I could join some of them. I never seem to be at the right place, at the right time. My art friend Lindylu is in the same boat. After meeting for the first time last Summer, we thought, "Let's step up this Summer!" We want to meet YOU! Please join us Friday, July 18th between 9am to 5pm, for a potluck get together. Lindylu has rented out the clubhouse in her community. It has everything we need to have a day of art, food and fun!

It's a potluck! So bring in a dish that you would like to show off. Not that great in the kitchen? No worries, bring in something store bought. (...and claim that you made it!) We also ask that you bring in a 6-pack of something you would like to share with others.

I'm planning to give everyone a small junk journal that day. Thought it would be nice to pass them around and art into each other's book. It's something you can bring home as a momento of the day. As soon as I figure out the dimensions of the book, I will let you know what they are. That way you can make some pre-made art. (Just in case we run out of time to art in some of the books.) The books are 4x4 pages.

Linda and I will also start up a fodder box for anyone wanting backgrounds or collage pieces to add to their work. Anyone can use them at their leisure. If you have anything you want to add to it, we would greatly appreciate it. :)

We also encourage you to bring in ATC's for some live trading. Perhaps even other things like Moo's, inchies/twinchies....etc. Post to the thread what type of trades you will bring, so that others can bring in an equal trade.

The day is loosely planned...coffee and donuts in the morning....lunch at 11-ish....art all over it!

We both hope you will join us! We will accept the first 15 people that can come.

I figured...but it would have been so awesome to have you there! :)

LindyLu
02-21-2014, 01:34 PM
Thanks for setting up the thread, Mel. I am sooo loking forward to this! Just so everyone knows, our clubhouse has long tables, plenty of plugins in the floor, a full kitchen, wi-fi. The ceiling is very high ( vaulted) so the lighting is not that great for arting. If you have a desk light, one of those fold down Ott lights, or something similar, that woul be helpful. I have 3 lights that I will be bringing.

Stay tuned to this thread for further details. If anyone has ideas of what you'd like to see in a demo, please let us know.:)

LindyLu

Yes, indeed, we would like to have short demo's that we could all try out:) BTW, I will have a homemade gelli plate at everyone's disposal & a pile of deli wrap to paint up:)

Tumwater is the next city south of Olympia. Exit 102 will get you here. We will post directions a bit later. Yes, it's a Friday because that's the only day we could make it work. It would be wonderful to have you join us:)

Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! All of you will be most welcome! Let us know when we can put your name on the list:)

A local friend is bringing her Big Shot & will cut dies for us. Save your cereal box cardboard & beverage cans ( please wash & flatten them) & she can cut cool stuff for you.

I will have my Boutique embosser for anyone to use.

This will be a fun day for all:)

Well I live in Olympia so I think I can be there from 9 to lunchtime or thereabouts unless I can trade with a coworker for the whole day.

LindyLu
02-25-2014, 06:44 PM
YAY! kehlenn is coming!!! We'll be happy to have you for any amount of time you have available. PM me if you want to hook up for a coffee/get aquainted/artsy day sometime:)

There's plenty of time to work out schedules, etc. I know it's a pain to have this on a workday. To get the clubhouse on a summer weekend I should have reserved it in Dec. but we just came up with this idea last week.

I think I'm at Oregon Country Fair, still (my partner works the fair), but if I'm home, then I'm coming. I can take the train up, and I'll just find a nearby hotel to stay the night.

I'd love to meet more WA and OR artists, and expand my already amazing network of friends!

Also, BigKay will be moving to Seattle in April, so it might be tres cool to send an invite her way, too. :)

kwailin777

Thanks for the invite! I'm not in WA yet but will be 4/1. I've been making quilts lately and haven't ATCed in a while but it sounds like fun! All of my art stuff Is packed away but I'm sure I can dig it out by July.

The date is far out still and I'm not sure what or if my work schedule will be but I am super interested. Not really comfortable taking up the spot until I actually spend 1 night as a WA resident though!

Here are the matchbook style books that I will give each potlucker. I will give you some start up watercolor paper and you can fill it up some more. (It's a bit expandable.) The paper measures 4x4 inches. Thought that we could do some pages in person, or you could bring some pre-made art to trade/RAK. Keep in mind that some art will be covered because of it's binding, which is a simple pronged binder clip. ....I used ribbon to enclose mine, but you can do yours up, anyway you wish. I will bring some random ribbon for anyone that needs it. If your bringing your own, I used approximately 24 inches of ribbon. I will also bring the rubber stamp that I used in my book, so that you could borrow it.

Here is my book almost completely altered. Not sure what I will add to the cover.

A bit of FYI : the BIG annual Olympia festival, known as Lakefair, starts July 16 & runs through the weekend. This is great fun for the whole family in case you want to turn the art/potluck playday into a mini vacation. Here's the website..check it out:)
http://www.lakefair.org/2013%20pdfs/2013%20Capital%20Lakefair%20Packet%20Final.pdf

Also, there several hotels in the Olympia area. Just Google Olympia WA hotels. They are already getting booked up due to Lakefair influx.

Last, but not least, I have coaxed my hubby into picking up anyone arriving by train. He says he won't charge much:biglaugh:

I'm getting nervous, too, but very excited! We should have great weather, too, so that's a plus for all the drivers.

I hope I don't throw cold water on the party when I ask that alcohol consumption be kept to a minimum. If this were an overnight event I wouldn't care. But I don't want to send all my fav peeps into traffic packing a load that might cause them & other folks to explode all over the freeway. Just sayin':)

JULIE, WHEEEEEEEE!!!! so glad you're gonna make it!! This is shaping up to be a fun, fun day!!

Please let Melissa & I know if there is anything you want us or you to demo, gals. I have a local pal (she also is an AFA member but never posts anything) who has/does Tim Holtz everything!! She is bringing a lot of stuff & her Big Shot & she will have a make & take (free, of course) table doing Tim Holtz big tags. She is making a stack of the big tags for all of us. Check out her blog to see some cool stuff she has made. The first piece is hanging on my wall, as we speak, & it was made from a soda can she ran through her Big Shot.

Any ideas you have are welcome. This is a day for everyone so let's do what everyone wants to do:)

I'll bring my envelope punch board for anyone that wants to check it out. I will also bring my crop-a-dile, in the hopes that someone can educate me on it. I think I may have damaged it a little! I have such a bad attention span, that I couldn't be bothered to read the instructions! I gotta SEE it in action.

LindyLu
03-17-2014, 08:17 PM
I do the same thing, Mel. I just rip open a package & go from there. I gave my crop-o-dial away & got the big bite, instead. I understand that one a lot better:biglaugh:

I'm glad you're bringing your envelope thingie. I need to see one of those in action.

kwailin777

I have the big shot....one thing you will notice is that over time your plastic plates will warp a little. I keep mine sandwiched in the machine when not in use. It keeps them from bending. Also, the plastic plates will be cut into by the dies with every use. Choose one plate to be the victim, so to speak. That way when you do have to replace it, it'll only be the one plate and not two.

oddbreed
03-23-2014, 12:53 PM
I totally don't use my big kick, and I got one of those stupid envelope thingies , I have no patience for directions, but it didn't really come with any, pft...
Mel, I love the stamp link, I spent hours looking thru them yesterday

"July, July, July!"

LindyLu
03-23-2014, 02:01 PM
The gal doing the demo has a Big Shot, I think, & she does such creative stuff with die cuts that it makes me weep....almost. She really does beautiful work & I'm asking her to bring some of It for show & tell.

Which reminds me..what do you think about having a show & tell table? Everyone could bring stuff they think is really interesting/unique, maybe you made it, maybe you received it, but if it's cool we want to see it!! Also, if anyone wants to bring How-To books for the rest of us to see, I think that would be good. I like to look at books before I buy them & I'm sure we all have books that someone else may not have seen. I have a bunch that I'll bring. Oh, and I'm working on a couple of fun ideas to kep the party light & flowing:)

Stay tuned!

Id be interested in seeing her big shot in action, mines collecting dust, the only die ive used is the gear die, found a couple at goodwill and couldn't pass up the cost~

I have a sickness for book collecting, especially how to books, I can bring a few to pass around, if theres a specific theme, title, lemme know, I have a good selection

I know how you feel about looking before buying, ive a few im trying to off on EBAY...

Oddy, my demo gal wants to know if you're bringing your Big Kick? If so, you should bring the platform & dies. I have no idea what she's talking about but I'm sure you do:) I know what a die is & I'm assuming the platform is the thingie you lay the die upon??

Please go to this site & vote for Dylusions Postcard by Vic, if you would. She has entered the Ranger dylusions contest. She is the one who will be doing Big Shot, etc. in July. I thought it would be nice if she could get some votes from us:)

Thanks, Mel:)

As we get closer to the event I will post a list of the books I'm bringing so the rest of you won't have to drag duplicates with you. I only have to move my stuff 1/2 a block away instead of miles & miles. This will leave more room for ya'll to bring artsy fartsy stuff.

Oddy, go here , http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/2013/05/25/a-permanent-gelatin-printing-plate-hectograph-an-annoying-project-a-birthday-card/ watch the vid & see the recipe. I made mine in a 9x13 cake pan & I keep it in the pan on my work bench. When I want to use the plate I just dump it out on a piece of freezer paper or deli paper & paint away!! i love making cool papers with deli wrap, printer paper, bristol, old book pages, phone book pages.....whatever you can lay on top of the paint works!!!

I plan to have mine at the meet up, too. I'm thinking about making a round one, too. That seems to be all the rage these days. However, I could just make a round mask for my big one. Hmmmm. I must ponder this.

Isn't that the easiest, cheapest thang!!!!! Don't put it in the fridge!! I can't remember if she says that in the vid. I subscribe to the frugal crafter & I have learned so much from her. She is awesome. She has a friend who is a science major, or something, & she asks him what will mix with what. I think she has a recipe for almost every art supply out there. She's a little ditsy to listen to sometimes, but she has a wealth of knowledge & loves to share it.

I'm so glad you made one:)

Oddy, the punch board doesn't have much action to it. ....if I had known better I would bought the pillow box punch board instead.

I gotta make one of those Gelli plates....Some one RAK'ed me a used smaller plate.....(was and still am overjoyed to receive it. However, it would be cool to make the full size version.

that pate makes me speechless, I busted it out again last night and made some fun prints~
I did the recipe different casue im used to working with gelatin, I kinda know what works and doesn't, Im not sure why they added alcohol, buuuttt here's what I did, im going to post it on my blog later today after I make a new more square one
8 packs gelatin
1 cup alcohol
1 cup glycerin
1 1/2 water

put gelatin and water in a small pan, dissolve gelatin in cold water(it wont work in boiling water), put on the stove to liquefy and completely dissolve
once the gelatin is dissolved, remove from burner, add the rest of the ingredients, stiiiirrrr
pour into glass Pyrex and try to leave it alone for a few hours, that part was hard for me, I moved mine and got some lumps so I just popped it in the over and bam, level

kwailin777
03-28-2014, 11:20 AM
How long can you keep/use it? Does it ever go bad?

LindyLu
03-28-2014, 11:23 AM
Oddy, I think that recipe was changed to ALL glycerin & NO ALCOHOL because the ones with alcohol will mold over time & the glycerin ones do not mold. Re-check the frugal crafter's blog/vid & I think you'll find that this is true. I made mine with all glycerin & it sits on my workbench like a wiggly, plastic-y piece of awsomeness. Love the dang thing!!

LindyLu
03-28-2014, 01:43 PM
How long can you keep/use it? Does it ever go bad?

I read that someone has had hers (homemade one) for 3 years & it has not dried up or molded. Lindsay, the frugal crafter, said her scientist friend told her to use all glycerin and no alcohol because it plasticized the gelatin. So, basically, the plate is just a wiggly pile of plastic, I guess. I've had mine on my workbench for about 6 mos. & I've seen no change in it. Give it a shot..it's certainly cheap enough:)

oddbreed
03-28-2014, 03:21 PM
good to know, im going to toss out the alcohol idea, I was wondering why you used it to begin with, its stinky too, I even thought of adding an essential oil, that would inhibit bacteria and such too?!?
I just got home and im going to make a new one minus the alcohol, i'll be back later to let you know how it worked...

I just watched "Layering With Stencils" by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer & she did a bunch of stuff with her plate. She even tells us we don't need to buy one...go make one. Anyway, she cut a big plate into small plates that work perfect with tags, easy to travel with, good for small pieces. I neve thought of that. So, I'm going to cut mine into a couple of smalls & a circle, then I'll make another big one. We can have gelli plates all over the place in July!:)

I can't tell all of you how happy I am that you are coming! I haven't been able to make it to any of the meet-ups & I think it is so cool & generous of you to travel to ME!!

Just read through the thread catching up a bit. You are all so lovely! :wubclub:

I tried the frugal crafter gelliplate recipe. I think I must have goofed a bit, and poured it too thin too. Melted it back into another container so it would be thicker.
It feels pretty sticky... Seems to work okay, but I haven't used it much yet, and need to work on getting a feel for how much paint needs to be on there. A fun experiment! I may make another one, or I may decide I'd be safer just buying one, lol.

I'd love to see some examples of what you have created with yours!

Hey! Hey! It's so good to hear from you, Cheryl Ann!! I'm so looking forward to meeting you in July. We've been wanting to meet for a long time, haven't we:)

Well, I'm not sure why your gelli plate feels sticky. Well, now, I just dumped mine out & I guess it feels a little sticky. It just feels like Jell-O to me. I also notice that mine has shrunk up a little bit. So I guess it does change over time. Mine is still very useable, though. I have printed up some pretty deli papers so I'll try to post some of them to this thread, if Mel says it's OK.

How about it, Mel, is that OK?

It doesn't take much paint at all. You can get several prints with one paint application. I keep a stack of papers or tags nearby so I can keep printing. I use a damp paper towel to wipe up any bits of lefover paint, then I let the towel dry & use it for collage.

Looking forward to July & all this fun we'll be having:)

Here's another set..then I promise no more:) The first 2 are on printer paper, the middle 2 are on paper towel & the last one is on deli paper.

My Liquetex paints were a gift & Golden is something I dream about. I fell into a good deal at a yard sale & got a bunch of craft bottle paints. They work just fine, too:)

Oh my goodness, those are pretty, LindyLu and Oddy!! Swoon worthy for sure, and very inspiring!

Well, I did remelt my plate yesterday into a smaller dish to make it thicker, and had another playtime with it last night and this morning. Guess I finally got a feel for how much paint to use and how fast to go, because I had SO MUCH FUN!!

Like you, LindyLu, I adore deli paper, and am so glad I had plenty available for pulling prints. I did some on watercolor paper and bristol paper too, and made some masks from watercolor paper to use along with my handful of stencils and a plastic fork for making swirls. Now I'm ready to turn some of those papers into backgrounds and collage elements.

Next time I play I plan to be a little more thoughtful about the process and try to pull some prints that will stand alone nicely as completed pieces themselves. Anyhow, the whole process is just delightful. My daughter got involved too and I'm sure will be using it more herself.

THANK YOU for sharing the link with the recipe. :wubclub:

Thanks, gals. Cheryl, I'm so tickled that you're having such gelli plate fun. Waaay back, around 2008, I think, my neighbor & I made plates out of plain gelatin & water. They worked really well but had to be refrigerated & they eventually broke down. So I set that idea aside thinking there's so many ways to paint who needs a gelli plate. Then the commercial ones went viral & after seeing the cool stuff being done I had another go at it. This time with the frugal crafter's recipe. I love this thing!! No refrigeration & it's always available for use. Who would NOT want to use one? I just need to let go & use the dang papers. I love the texture of it so much that I can't let it go. EEK!!!!!

Love those books!! I might just do that:)

Every May we have a collective garage sale in our 55+ park. Last year I was at 1 house when this 20-something gal came running up to her friend & said "look at this cool thing I got for $11!.." I don't know what to do with it, but I'll learn."

Holey Moley! it was a complete book- binding system, still in the box. I almost fainted. I wanted to smack that cute little thang & run like hell with that box!!!

You just never know what you'll find at garage sales & thrift stores. I have found that when someone in our park passes & the family holds a sale there are a lot of good deals. That book-binding system came from just such a house. Whoever was handling the estate, obviously, didn't have any idea what that item was so they gave it away. The same thing goes with thrift stores. People just want to get an estate settled & move on so they donate lots of good stuff. Just writing about this makes me want to go hit some g-sales:)

OK, all you peeps who plan to come to Tumwater in July..listen up. Please let kwailin777 & I know what YOU want from this day. Shall we have demos? about what? do YOU want to do a demo? Maybe we could have a short lesson on stamp carving, quick watercolor, 10 minute collage, .....what??? We need some input so we can make this a fun day for everyone. Also, Mel, has made these clever 4x4 booklets for everyone so plan to make a 4x4 page for everyone's booklet. I can't work under pressure so I'm making mine ahead of time but you can do it on that day. The idea is to leave with a page from everyone who attends. It will make a fun memento.

We'll have more info about food, drinks, etc. as we get closer to the big day. July will be here sooner than we think. YAY!

kwailin777

Linda you were asking me about the booklet and where the holes are. It's a 4x4 page. The holes do take up one side of the page. I wouldn't be able to say where the top or bottom is, because it all depends on how each person uses there book. (sideways like mine or vertical.) I would just suggest to not put writing on the edges. Here's the pic of my book, so that you can what I mean.....

...I know typically you bring one dish, but I can't decide...I'm thinking I might bring crab cakes, they can be refrigerated then nuked! If I have the time, I also wanted to bring a Custard Flan.....and if the Flan doesn't work out....my Mango bread...because it keeps really well.....for my six pack of something, I'll most likely bring Arizona Green Tea....it's my fave. :)
Any idea what you gals are bringing.....

LindyLu

Mel, we have Albertson's a half mile away. I can order a mixed box of donuts from them so you don't need to haul them up here.

I will have crackers, cheese platter, fruit, roll-ups of some kind, other finger food yet to be determined. Of course, this could all change by then:biglaugh:

Love the book!! I have a friend who will be attending & she makes killer zentngles. She will make one for each book. I think I'll tell her to do a 3x3 so the design won't get punched. I have no idea what my pages will be like, I'm still waiting for my creativity muse to show up.

Is anyone coming from Seattle or will be passing though Shoreline/Seattle that is willing to give me a ride? As I live in Shoreline and don't have a car. I can bus as far as Seattle but not any further without it
getting ridiculous. If there IS anyone willing to give me a ride I would LOVE to come. So…any takers?

unfortunately Seattle is an hour ferry ride the opposite direction from me or I would totally pick you up, im going to try my best to take the back roads to Tumwater from my place in the sticks, no freeway, ferry, bridge toll..maybe a minute or 2 on the freeway, lol

will there be place for all this food ladies? refrigeration? you may have mentioned this...

is anyone staying over night?

can someone pm me the location so I can map out my drive?

ABSOLUTELY! you may certainly bring her. We need one more giggler:) I have a friend coming who has never made an ATC & dosn't intend to but she loves art. She makes wonderful, intricate zentangles & she'll have a 4x4 tangled page for each of us to put into the booklets. She knows I'm crazy & she wants to see if the rest of you are, too. I have promised her that she will see plenty of crazy:biglaugh:

Oddy, you asked,

....will there be place for all this food ladies? refrigeration? you may have mentioned this.....

Yes, we have a full kitchen with all appliances, etc. If the fridge gets too full we will have coolers with ice at the ready.

This is mid-July so it could be quite warm.......or it could be quite wet:biglaugh:..it's the Pacific NW so who knows?

I'm getting so excited about this & my head is spinning with ideas. We're going to have a very fun playday!!!

How to get here:

Driving I-5 South....take exit 102..take a right at the light..you are now on Trosper Rd..go approx. 3/4 of a mile on Trosper to Eagle's Landing Mfg. Home park.

Turn Right into the park then an immediate Left onto Bald Eagle Ln SW..stay on that lane until you see the clubhouse. There is parking on both sides of the clubhouse. You can pull up under the portico long enough to unload, if needed, but parking has to be on the sides.

Driving I-5 North Take exit 102..go left at the light..you are now on Trosper Rd & will cross over the freeway. ..stay in the center lane..go approx. 3/4 mile to Eagle's Landing & follow the above directions.

Never leave Trosper Rd & you can't miss us

Need landmarks? OK, you will pass Olympics West Retirement Inn on the Left....Hampton Alzheimer's Special Care Center on the Right..you'll pass Rural Rd on the Right..then a large mfg home park ...Eagle's Landing is next..there is a a grey textured block wall along the front of the park..ya can't miss us:)

Let me know if you need more info

AWESOME, thanks LindyLu, I am planning my scenic route

Art Junkie, DEF bring your BGB, unfortunately the only folks I could think of bringing were the ones I already spend ALL my time with, so I got to lone wolf this road trip, plus leaves more room in the car for junk to bring and unload on you all
oh, and bring on the crazy, art and crazy just mix

so I guess I should get busy making chunkie pages, (because the date is really sneakin) are there any specific rules, HD, MM, Collaged? anything goes?

kwailin777
05-13-2014, 10:39 PM
Anything goes for the chunkies. ;) Crazy, yes that's a for sure thing...another giggler? Awesome! As for the drive....I'm coming from the south. :( Hope someone North will end up coming that could give you a ride.

05-14-2014, 09:32 AM
Linda you were asking me about the booklet and where the holes are. It's a 4x4 page. The holes do take up one side of the page. I wouldn't be able to say where the top or bottom is, because it all depends on how each person uses there book. (sideways like mine or vertical.) I would just suggest to not put writing on the edges. Here's the pic of my book, so that you can what I mean.....

http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/01/7b/9e/017b9e196a4e7f946911578dbf4d09ce.jpg

these are so cool, I cant wait to see them in person, oh nutha idea, we could do 4x4 journal pages, takes the stress outta profiling, lol

kwailin777
05-14-2014, 09:33 AM
I wanted to do it that way too. A lot of the time my art turns out better when I know who it's going to. I'm not sure why, but it does....:)

kwailin777
05-14-2014, 09:35 AM

05-14-2014, 10:54 AM
I didn't know the booklets would take chunkie stuff. See, I learn something every day from you guys:)

I like to make my pages on a whim so I'm not good @ following profile info. I'm making my pages at home & passing them out on the day. This takes stress off of me & I can just play, eat, play, gossip, play............

art_junkie
05-14-2014, 11:27 AM
I suck at requests & following profile info. The one thing I loathe to draw the most?

Steampunk

kwailin777
05-14-2014, 11:39 AM
I will follow small things on a profile...such as color....or an animal, person...etc....I'm not good at specific things...like wanting a painting of Marilyn Monroe. I can't make a likeness....or even things from specific tv shows...

The books can take some lite weight chunk....

I think I like the idea of just making a bunch of these 4x4's and handing them out too. Less pressure......

oddbreed
05-14-2014, 03:42 PM
oh oh, I better go add some colors to my profile, I just started updating it a few days ago, phew...

Ruth, steampunk huh, I had no idea, pft...MM, HD, HP or all of the above?

at artzona we did ten minute canvases. ( 5 1/2 x 8 1/2) The artist who will receives the canvas starts with some image. Canvas passes in a circle, each artist downstream adding something. I thought it would be silly, but it was a lot of fun. The advantage was in addition to being a souvenir, it generated a bunch of giggles.

My canvas, worked on by LaffQueen, Rebecca G,Sherrie, Jazzie and Waterblossoms.

kwailin777
05-15-2014, 10:31 AM
We could do that.....what if we have everyone purchase a canvas, such as yours. We can all start a drawing on it before arriving....then pass it along, like you gals did. What do ya all think?

kwailin777
05-15-2014, 10:32 AM

LindyLu
05-15-2014, 10:34 AM
AJ: that's a great idea! I have a couple of 8x10 canvases I will donate to the cause:)

I had suggested something similar to Mel using 4x4 paper so it would make a page for the booklet. We could work in teams of 2 with one person making random paint splashes then passing it to the partner who would find an intuitive drawing within the paint splashes. The person who does the drawing would sign the back of the page & give it back to the other person. Everyone would have a fun page to remember the day. I know there would be a lot of giggles & some strange drawings.

We want this day to be full of giggles & strange:yes::jiggy::P:rolleyes:

Drawing before hand sort of goes in the too hard to do pile. My winged gal started with a tutu, which disappeared and she got wings and go-go boots.

I like the random watercolor paper thingy too, but then that's how all my art begins.

(terrified of blank paper)

If you need the paper, I splash up whole tablets at a time

I was thinking of bringing all my fav supplies, I don't mind bringing my stencils, paints, etc, if theres anything ANYONE is looking for please ask, ive an over abundance of crafty art stuff, paleeezzz ask!

I LOVE the idea of doing the canvases & the booklet pages. AJ: it would be great to have the paper already splashed. This way we can all look for the intuitive picture without having any pre-conceived ideas.

SUPPLIES: remember, gals, I live here & my art supplies are at your disposal. I will be bringing WC... acrylics ...gesso, both white & black... soft pastels, deli paper ( painted & unpainted), Bristol & WC papers, some handmade papers, tissue paper ephemera, unpainted clothespins ( since I flunked out on the clip swap:)),. I don't have a lot of cardstock but I have a neighbor who will bring some. All of my electric tools are coming, too. I don't know about using EP in the clubhouse or glitter. I think we'd better nix those 2 items. Also, I have a few paper punches that I'll bring. I'm sure there'll be more stuff as the date gets closer:)

Well, I am, Oddy. Of course, I live here.:biglaugh: I wish I had accomodations for O-niters but I don't. It would be great fun if some of you could stay in Oly & take in the Lakefair festivities. I will not be able to do that cuz we're already booked up for the weekend. That's one of the reasons playday is on a Friday, that and k777 only has Friday to play, too. I know, BUMMER! I'm with you, AJ. I need to see what's on the canvas before I can think of what to add to it. Blank pages & blank canvases scare the rainbow colored poop out of me.

Remember, everyone, that we will be doing gelli prints & die cuts, too.

Double Tree is on the water and is really nice- also downtown.
There are others but that gives you a start.

Just a thought: be sure to mark your supplies so you'll take home the ones you brought. I imagine there will be some that are alike.

LindyLu~so excited you decided to put this together with Mel, thank you!

Oddy, my parents roll their eyeballs when I talk about any kind of social media. LOL! They are very old school about it.

I visit them every Summer, maybe next time we could plan for something even bigger? A retreat with some kind of field trip?

...I started off by meeting up with Lindylu for a few hours + lunch last summer. This summer is an entire day. Next summer....hmmmm....

Eventually, my hubby and I plan on moving to Washington to be closer to my folks. ;)

Mel, your folks are in Tumwater?

I have a field, 14 acres with trails and camp grounds, ponds, etc...its like a preserve.

I wanted to do something like a retreat, no pressure, come if you can, camp out, in or at the motel (13 miles to all three neighboring towns)

I want to paint sheets to hang on my fence during summer, have a bon fire, you know, that good times stuff.

maybe one of these summers, after all I think I've only met 2 AFAers in the whole time I've been lurking on here

You should note that there are no pictures for when I lived 4 months in Kansas in the shadow of a refinery next to the Amazon.com fulfillment center.

My first clue as to what the neighbors in the RV park were like was the large shrub decorated for Christmas.

Closer examination revealed that the ornaments where empty Bud Light cans. It went downhill from there.
