I'm an envie Addict! Hopefully, there are more of you out there! What? Your a newb? What's an Envie you say? If you don't already know, Envies are altered envelopes. They can be drawn on, painted on, and collaged. Sky's the limit. Getting personal mail is nice, but getting a mini traveling museum is the best!
So here's what I propose, let's get a good sized group going for a monthly swap. It would be a nice way to get our fix of envies on a regular basis. Let's share our ideas, links to inspiration, and get to know each other as artist.

How It Works:
1)I will assign a partner for each player.
2)You will design an envie for your partner. You could use their likes and dislikes as a
guide for what you will create. However, for the most part it's artist choice.
Getting something you never seen before, is a good way to expose yourself to
new ideas/styles.
3)Envelopes at a minimum should be at least the small sized business envelope.
Which is approximately 3 5/8 - 6 1/2 inches. Other than that, it's artist choice.
Perhaps you feel like drawing and you send someone a 6x9 envelope, where as
another artist wanted to keep the envie a bit smaller. Also, if you wish to create
your own envie, by all means, do it! Use magazines, brown bags, candy wrappers.
Postcards now welcomed! You can do Envies or 4x6 postcards.
4)You will have a month to create one envelope. That's plenty of time to cover that
baby up! Use the whole envelope. Remember it's eye candy. Draw your viewer in to
take a good long look. Add poems, quotes, rubber stamping, lino cut prints,
drawings, paintings, clippings, and anything else that will make your partner want
to experience your art.
5)So, the deadline. Envies need to be sent out two weeks before the end of the month. Communication is key, let your
partner know that you've sent out your Envie. If your going to be late, let your
partner know. We all get busy, it happens sometimes. I believe most of us are
pretty forgiving of that. If you have to withdraw, and can't complete your Envie, let me know right away. I will
cover your spot. (Let me know if you need me to cover it, or I will assume that you sent one.)
6)On a new month you will get a new partner.
7)Do not post your Envie until AFTER your partner has received it.. Let's
keep that a surprise for the receiver. When it has been received, show off your
work. It would be awesome to see what the others have gotten.
8)All Envies will be sent "Naked" meaning they will go thru the mail as is. Do not put them in another envelope. Place something sturdy like cereal or cracker boxes inside to ensure it will arrive safely.
9)Leave Itrader for your partner when Envie is received.
10)Finally, any non-communicators will be dropped from new partners list. So please, keep the lines of communication open.

* It has come to my attention that some of our International friends might be discouraged to join. The reason being is that they are afraid their Envie would get stolen. If this is the case, I would like international players to have their envie shipped in a plain envelope. Their Envie, however, must have their partners address and faux/real postage in place. (Ask your partner what they prefer)

Optional: As a bonus, I thought we could do an optional birthday Envie. If you see that it is someones birthday that month, whether they are a partner or not, send them a birthday themed Envie. Just make sure they get it on their birthday month. Again, it's just a fun bonus, but not required. :) (I won't know your birthday month unless you have it listed on your profile. If you don't want to list it on your profile, but want to receive a possible birthday envie, let me know that it is your b-day month. I will add you to the list. If you receive a Birthday Envie, Please leave "You Rock" points to the sender.

I'm here. Good news for folks who partner me: I can get my art out faster. The docs splinted my fingers so they don't double under or fold and tremble when I'm working. This means I can work for a few hours instead of minutes.

How's everyone? Anyone need water wings? We aren't in the panhandle but that storm is coming for us. :err:

I'm here! :) I'm happy to know 2 of my envies have arrived. The February took so long that waffle mistook it for a March envie, sorry waffle. I think this happens when I try to send naked, I won't do it anymore! The March envie was less incredibly slow and just arrived to Trilov!

I just wanted to quickly say welcome to the new thread friends. Corrie, you are also welcomed to join us. Please give me until tomorrow to get you a partner. I have a few peeps who wouldn't mind doubling up.

Feel better soon Mel!

I'm signing in for May! Add me to the birthday list. I turn 53 tomorrow. I'm trying to figure out just how it happened that I am as old as I am! My oldest son celebrated his 31st birthday three days ago. It's his birthday that makes me feel so old, not so much my own.

I got Fran's envie for Feb a few days ago. I love the cute flamingo on it! I still owe iTraders to you, Fran! Will try to get that done today.
Locatray's envie must be lost in the postal system somewhere. I haven't seen it. I sent hers mid month....don't really remember which day it went out. She hasn't indicated it has arrived so perhaps she too is waiting on the postal system.

I've been trying to post my share on and off today, but due to the high winds my internet connection has been spotty. I thought it would be a good idea to start off the month with some altered envie inspiration.

Hello Addicts! I'm feeling so much better! I woke up feeling like I already had my coffee because I was in bed most of the day yesterday. (Still had to help with algebra though!) That was torture! I'm REALLY bad at math...yet I have to help with it! Oh well, I learned how to find the surface and volume of prisms! LOL! ...Opps sorry, are we talking about math or art?! Let's talk about art!
I think it was Acalla, that was telling me that she ordered both the Mail Me Art book and Good Day Mail book. Those books are linked on our info page. They are my favorite books. I forgot to add that the new Mail Me Art book has been out for a few months now. It's called, "Mail Me Art, Short & Sweet." I haven't bought it yet, but I think I might just cave, and get it already! LOL! For probably the first time, I can say that the folks in the UK can buy it cheaper than our U.S. folks. Below is the link to the book's website. The website it's self is fun to stroll through. Check it all out here. (http://www.mailmeart.com/)

This is too funny. I almost bought the new book last night. When I converted the British pounds to dollars it ends up being around $30 (with shipping). I haven't quite talked myself into it yet. The reason I want to buy it is because the call for entries instructions for the next book are only available inside this book. What a scam.:arghh:

kwailin777
05-02-2014, 10:49 AM

Hey gang, I'm going to do my share a little later in the day. There is a community garage sale going on. Has to be near a hundred houses participating. I was't gonna go, but it keeps nagging me. So, I think I'll hit a few of them....hopefully someone is getting rid of some arts and crafts! (That's the part that is nagging me!) I'll be back in a little bit. :)

My mailbox was exploding with color from the UK! Noodlerabbit's gorgeous envie arrived. Take a peek (at my half-A pictures) and see how perfectly she blended her signature style of colorful and creative art with just the right amount of oddity (morphed and altered ellies and giraffes!) Couldn't love this more! Thank you!

Playing card postcards. Looks cool, but I wonder if we are allowed to send something that small? According to the caption on the website, it was sent in 1924. Perhaps they had different rules at the time? I found this at Ephemera.ning.com (http://ephemera.ning.com/group/secondary)

Hello Addicts! Gonna re-visit the idea of homemade/DIY Washi tape. For those of you that are new, we played with this a lot several months back. There was a lot of experimenting with several types of tapes to make your own Washi. Among them were surgical tape...I think that's what it was called. You can get it anywhere first aid supplies are sold. Also Artist paper tape. Artist tape can be found in craft stores in the painting area. If you have a Xyron machine/dispenser, it comes in quite handy. Anyhow, here are some tuts for you to see. ...The first one isn't Washi, but your gonna want to watch the video from the website....I think you'll all love it! Please watch it.....

Masking tape Gelli Printing....it'll blow your mind! Pictures and video tut from Approachable-art.blogspot.com (http://approachable-art.blogspot.com/2013/06/summer-gelli-fun.html) and Gelliarts.blogspot.com (http://gelliarts.blogspot.com/2013/05/gelli-transfer-prints-and-giveaway.html)

http://media-cache-cd0.pinimg.com/736x/6f/17/f8/6f17f81e4a81f9d4c40e01d7730dd046.jpg

Oh hey, another kind of tape... check out the website from Aspoonfullofsugardesigns.com (http://aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2011/08/homemade-japanese-washi-tape/)

http://aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Tape.jpg

Do you have a Xyron machine? Don't know what it is? It's a sticker maker. They started out with a model that looked like a tiny plastic "X" It has double sided tape in it. You push in a piece of your favorite paper, from the other side you pull out a fabulous sticker! I have the cheap model, but of course there are fancier electronic versions now. The following website has a video tut that you can watch. Crafttestdummies.com (http://www.crafttestdummies.com/craft-projects-2/make-your-own-washi-tape-with-the-xyron/) (think of the papers you can use...Origami, tissue, vellum, maps, used postage stamps....)

http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/6b/92/6f/6b926f741e5f0c9c0d80e324b19d2a6e.jpg

Here is a pictorial that you can use with surgical tape and artist tape. The pictorial comes from Stampendousblog.wordpress.com (http://stampendousblog.wordpress.com/2012/06/11/washi-tape-tutorial-by-april-derrick/)

Hello Everyone! I wanted to thank you all for the birthday wishes! Had a great day. I never did get that toast made, but there's always time for that any day. I'm really not much of a drinker these days, though in my younger days, I was a tad wild.

Lepidoptera is the order of insects that includes butterflies and moths. I used to be a bug geek. Actually, I still am, just these days I don't actively collect them. I had a few butterflies and moths in my collection but my main focus was on beetles and other creepy crawlies. It always seemed 'wrong' to me to murder butterflies and pin them in a collection. They're much nicer flying around outside! I've never had a problem murdering any other kind of bug though! My sons used to ask, "Did you murder any bugs today, Mom?" My insect collection is long gone, has been for years! The only dead bug I have now is a giant grasshopper I caught a few summer's ago. He sits on a fancy little dish in my china hutch. Everyone has a dead grasshopper sitting among the good china, don't they? :)

The paper butterfly collection is really cool!
I don't think the postoffice will let us mail a naked playing card. They have rules for how small a piece of mail can be. Here's the link telling you minimum sizes allowed.
https://www.usps.com/send/can-you-mail-it.htm?

I wish I were a publisher! What a cool idea to do an Altered Envie Group book!

I'm working on crocheted baskets made from plastic shopping bags at the moment. Few years ago my son bought a bunch of stuff at an auction. In among that stuff was a bunch of cases of these heavy plastic shopping bags. Must be a couple thousand of them out in the storage shed. I've been wracking my brain to figure out what the heck I'm going to do with them all! I can tell you they will NOT all be turned into crocheted baskets cause I'd need a whole other lifetime to accomplish that!

I'm also making a paperbag book. Doing lots of painting on it. Will be done probably next week.
And as I always have a few projects in the works, I'm almost finished with Fish Picture #10. Takes me months to make a fish picture.

Art away, PEople!!!! Carry on! Happy Sunday!!

Of course there's a dead grasshopper in everyone's china cabinet! LOL! Funny that you say your son's ask if you murdered another bug...We have a similar story to that in our house. My mom smacks us every time we say it! Ha ha ha!
We love seafood and my mom used to buy live crab. Of course you just throw the suckers in hot boiling water. Growing up we would tease my mom...saying, "Do you hear that?" She'd ask what?....we'd say....screaming....and I think it's coming from that pot! My gosh a wack and a dirty look from my mom, but we were still cracking up even from such a scolding!

Hello Addicts! Do you use a lot of eggs? Have a lot of egg cartons and don't know what to do with them? Well, today's share will show you what you can do with them. I got the idea because of the Pins that I saw Will pining on Pinterest. So, thank you Will!

No tut, but I think it's pretty easy to figure out by looking at it. This display was found in an Anthropology shop. I think they are suppose to look like Blue Bells? If I have the wrong flower, chime in.;).....Other projects show people using simple food dye's to color their egg carton flowers.
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/93/1d/99/931d9941fb2c84c21cb546e5faf3dd46.jpg

Kid craft? Yeah, you can do this with your kid(s), but think if you did this up yourself. A mixed media artist could have a field day working on this base. The website that it comes from is Blogs.babble.com but it doesn't work. To make the base of this owl follow this pictorial...
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/ce/2e/17/ce2e17df37c3e090d30af9b1fd37e22b.jpg

Go incognito! These masks are adorable! You can make them for a kids b-day party. Or make them for your self as a collection in your art room. As a collection you could add feathers, sequins, or decropage pieces. Not sure if you know this tid bit, but the shape of this mask is like the ones that you see with the large beaks. The original masks were used by doctors. They would place herbs in the beak, that would supposedly keep disease away from them. (Not important, just say'in.) Find the tut at Picklebums.com (http://picklebums.com/2013/10/22/make-an-egg-carton-mask/)

I can't remember if we shared this info with you but we tried this at Pochadiva's house (a year ago?) and some of us interpreted the instructions of what to bring incorrectly and it turned out kind of funny. The "artist tape" was in blue packaging, and some of us brought blue painters tape instead (and yellow & green too). I'll have to dig it out and try to incorporate it onto an envie soon.

Good Afternoon Addicts!
Sorry I'm posting in the afternoon vice the morning. I've been volunteering at Calicinto Ranch and I leave early in the morning for that.

The One Lucky Day (http://www.oneluckyday.net/) website has a real nice tutorial on how to make this mixed media piece.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ojlHhGItbs0/U1bFryqifZI/AAAAAAAAPh8/yKG6BPhgMYs/s1600/IMG_9093.JPG

I thought I'd also share some cool art journal pages for inspiration. I think anything you can do in an art journal could also be done on an envie.

Here is a beautiful page from Donna Downey (http://donnadowney.typepad.com/):
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/75/3b/4a/753b4a5a805aca20d824c163928cacfc.jpg

I love the layout of these pages by Martha Lever. (http://marthalever.blogspot.com/2009/12/sad-day-saturday-journal-pages.html)
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/b7/01/d1/b701d19299e406ff820572e9526491f9.jpg

Now I just love this page by Rachel Panagarry (http://www.arteyecandy.com/2012/06/dare-to-dream.html):
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/52/15/a9/5215a9c65bfc6192e6030bd7263d906c.jpg

This page from the Sketchbook Project (http://www.sketchbookproject.com/library/5153) shows a fun way to incorporate your journaling into the actual drawing.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share a postcard I made on Friday. I was making it to send to someone, but then ended up liking it so much I kept it for myself. It was done with a black Micron (Sakura) and Stabilo fine tip markers with colored pencil for the shadows.

Oh my gosh Suze! Of course you can play!!! How are you doing?! I'm so glad to have you return. :wubclub: We have a couple of new rules. First is, we have a deadline. The deadline is approximately mid month. I give a reminder thru PM to everybody. If you are unable to send out your Envie by the mid month deadline, you need to communicate it to your partner. The second one isn't really a rule...we now accept postcards as trades too. :D Give me a until tomorrow to find you a partner.....

....with that said, anyone want to take on another partner? :)

She primarily does block printing. Here are a few examples of her work, but be sure to check out her website as her work will blow you away.

I've got Silver's Envie pretty much completed. Might make a few more additions before it goes postal tomorrow.

Ok, So I got the new Mail Me Art book. "Short & Sweet" It is short...only a little sweet. First I'm impressed by the speed that it took to travel here. Second, the book is approximately 5x7 ish sized. That's fine....but I'm not too impressed with the contents this time. It's a little bit of a let down. The older Mail Me Art book had professional illustrators that you could ooh and ahh about. I loved that! I like that I could gleen little things to try from the best of the best. However, the new book had some art that, in my opinion, were strange options to have in the book. I can honestly say, we coulda filled those, "hmmm" artworks that they added, with our OOooh artwork we have in our group. It feels like the older book was a labor of love, and this one was to, just make money. A fine example is, the information about entering art for the new book. Tandy, here's the info....you have to buy this current book in order to get the postcard inside that you have to specifically use to submit your artwork. I will gift you that postcard, because I don't have the time to submit anything. I just feel bad for anyone else wanting to join.

So, buy the book or not? If you are from the UK and you don't have to pay shipping or shipping is only a couple of dollars. Yeah, Id say it's worth it. If you have to pay international shipping....forget it....it's not worth it. Wait til it circulates more and become easily obtainable from Ebay or Amazon. I wouldn't pay more than 12 dollars altogether for this book.

Hey gals... I have a request. I'm still working on my postcard project for my sister in law Joyce. I started this project because she is battling stage 3 breast cancer and this is the only way I can think of giving her some comfort. (We all live across the country from her.) She's been surprised with the handful my kids and I have sent....I have some family members drawing some out for her too.... But I'd like to really flood her mailbox with some well wishing.
So, I'm asking you for some help. For anyone wanting to send my sister in law a 4x6 Art'ed postcard, I will send you one in trade. I'm going to work on a block print so that I can keep up with anyone willing to join my effort. If you are sending her a postcard, please jot a little happy note, a happy poem, personal experiences of surviving, and info of things that were helpful to you or a loved one during chemo and beyond.
If you would like to participate give me a holler via PM. Thanks for listening! <3,M :wubclub:

Hello Addicts! My share today is the block print that I made today. I carved most of the block this morning....finished up after lunch. Now I have them printed in two different colors, Teal and Red. It seems strange to quote my own hubby, but for this project I did! He's usually more pessimistic than optimistic...so I guess this is why, this thought of his, has stuck with me for a long time. We were discussing "luck" and how to get good luck....My husband says you need to fill your luck meter with good deeds. The more good you do, the faster your luck meter will fill up. This is the postcard that I will be giving to anyone wanting to help out by sending my sis in law a postcard. I thought that the quote was appropriate considering the help that I am receiving to do a good deed. :)

By the way, I saw a new weird block at Hobby Lobby. It's by Speedball and its completely clear. I guess the idea is, you can put your drawing under the block. It's completely clear so you wouldn't have to transfer it. I could be wrong about this, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Let me know if any of you try it and what you think of it....

Talking about the clear blocks made me remember a vid I saw from Gelli Arts. She wrote her words on a piece of paper in bold ink, placed the clear gelli plate over it & wrote the words on the gelli plate following her paper. Easy peasy to get the words done right. That's probably the idea behid the clear carving block, too. I haven't tried to make a stamp yet. It's on my bucket list:)

Hello Addicts! Hope your weekend went well. Mine was quiet and relaxed. So, right back to arty biz.....how's about some ATC inspirations? It's funny, I don't do a lot of ATC's anymore, but some of the ATC's I have to share, makes me go "Hmmm."

Artist stamps are so fun. Here's an amazing one used on an ATC by Usedeverywhere.com (http://www.usedeverywhere.com/atc-pocket-art/)
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/92/5f/45/925f4557d1fa04f99b4f73dd79023c14.jpg

Cut it out! Check out these ATC's with their backgrounds cut out. They are done by Kali Wallace of Etsy.com (https://www.etsy.com/shop/kaliwallaceART)

https://img1.etsystatic.com/040/1/6942488/il_570xN.566586207_m1fd.jpg

When you're strange, everyone remembers your name. I like that! Unfortunately I don't know who to credit this card to, but it's fun.

Hi Everyone!
Lots of excellent shares happening here! Love the block print, Mel! Very cool!
I pulled a couple of Birthday envies out of my mailbox on Sunday. Not sure if they came on Friday or Thursday. I was a bit on the gimp side the end of last week and didn't check the mail for a couple days. Thank you to JSilver and Mel for brightening my day! I'll spread some YOU ROCKS here in a bit.
I was going to go to town and mail Kristenb's envie today but I don't think that will happen today beings I can barely walk. The fibro is kicking my butt today! So we'll shoot for tomorrow with that. I think I'll kick back in the recliner today and finish that book I started late last night.

Did you get rain today, dmnh? I saw there were storms in the Midwest. I have fibro, too and the rain can definitely throw me for a loop. I feel for ya!

Donna, hope you feel better soon. I was just thinking of you yesterday, because I spotted a great big grasshopper on my peach tree. I automatically thought of your china cabinet!! LOL! (No, I didn't do it. He's still happily hopping. ) :)

Wowzers! Love the Envies peeps! I will proudly display them to our Pinterest board. ;)

Good Morning Addicts!!!

Today's share is all about Rolos. For those who aren't familiar with Rolos they are altered Rolodex cards.

This first one is a fun way to decorate your Rolodex holder and a Rolo to match from Lucy's Lampshade (http://lucyslampshade.blogspot.com/2014/01/keep-calm-and-roll-on.html):
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/4f/ab/14/4fab14281619c17de31a00d83ce925f1.jpg

This next set of Rolos are beautifully collaged by Karenann Young (http://karenannyoung.blogspot.com/):
http://karenannyoung.blogspot.com/

Here is a beautifully stamped and colored Rolo from Simply Handmade (http://www.jans-gonestampin.blogspot.com/2012/07/rolodex-v524-jr-sweet-summertime.html):
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ed/1d/e2/ed1de2c375c3e19adae977e1ea67fc28.jpg

Here is an idea of another way to utilize a Rolodex from Paper-Scissors-Superheros (http://scrapbookgirl.typepad.com/paper_scissors_and_superh/2012/06/desktop-file-inspiration.html). Use it for swatches for your spray inks, watercolors, etc.

This idea comes from Gloria's Scraps of Life (http://gloriascraps.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html). You could use your Rolodex to store your favorite Bible scriptures:

Acalla, I am of the same mind as Tandy; that postcard is gorgeous as is! She will love it!

Corrie, we did get a bit of rain but the bad storms were just east of me. We could see the angry black clouds but we only got a little bit of rain and bunch of wind out of it. The fibro always goes nuts on me when the weather changes just the slightest little bit. I'm better today though my hips are making it a bit hard to walk still. I hope you are feeling well today!

I got to the post office this afternoon so Kristin's envie is on its way to her. I forgot to take a picture of it. Maybe when Kristin gets it she can show it off?

After I went to the post office, I came back home and checked the mail and found a cool yellow envelope with elephants on it from Kristin in my mailbox! I LOVE IT! One can never go wrong with elephants!
Too bad all the envelopes in the mailbox today weren't of the arted variety! Could have done without the notice to renew my vehicle registration. It's not really all that much but I hate having to go to the courthouse to take care of it each June!

Mel, you crack me up! You should have caught that grasshopper, he's just going to eat your plants! The one I have in my china hutch isn't your run of the mill grasshopper. I'll see if I can find a picture of mine....he's really cool!

Here's hoping you all have a terrific Tuesday! I really thought today was Wednesday though! Thought I had missed getting the trash out this week. Alright! Now I'm off to empty all the trashcans in the house and get it out to the bins so I don't miss the trash guys tomorrow!
Be creative today!

I was asked again on how I make my envies, so for anyone wanting to see it again...here ya go.....

Step one Lay your desired sheet of paper on a score-board. Mine happens to be watercolor paper. Then set down a regular envelope. Use it as a guide to see where your creases should go.
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/b1/d5/8b/b1d58b512bb90d51e7df6eb7ac74e1f2.jpg

I use a ruler to ensure straight lines. Crease all four sides.
http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/2b/80/f5/2b80f54137ab6c60247c86537ca4c896.jpg

Finally, cut the corners out and round the edges of the flaps. You can use simple Elmers glue or any tacky craft glue to close it. :)

I used my guillotine paper cutter and a letter opener to score an envie last week. The base is hard plastic with groves cut into it on a grid pattern. It gave me beautiful marks/creases without having to buy another thing to store when not in use :~]

I make envies with a template I bought at Target.
I use to unfold any envie I found by unfolding it than tracing...it worked fine but the sturdy pre made one makes it much easier.

I have to admit I am a bit of a envie making addict.

I like strange messy art tho :)

I am a fan of expressionism, modern and abstract art.

Truthfully I would have to say that realism is my least favorite art.

Funny you say that....
....my eldest son had a class assignment to visit a museum. So, knowing that I dig art he took me along. We went to the Crocker Museum in Sacramento yesterday. They have you start on the third floor and work your way down. The modern art was at the top. We had the most fun checking all of those out. But then we reached the more traditional paintings with the fruit in a bowl and landscapes with their muted and oft time dull colors....we guiltily skipped through most of it!

kwailin777
05-14-2014, 09:30 AM
There was a lot of mixed media on the 3rd floor....they didn't make any sense, but they were so fun to explore.

Maybe, because they are abstract, you can use your own imagination to think up what it's all about? :geek:

Hello Addicts! Yesterday my eldest son and I went to the Crocker Museum Of Art in Sacramento. It was an assignment from one of his classes to visit a museum. I was glad that he chose me over his friends to go to the museum. He's a good egg, he knew that I would appreciate it more. Plus mom always buys lunch! LOL! He said that if he had gone with his friends, they wouldn't have stopped to actually look and find out more about the individual pieces.
I wish he was up right now, 'cause all of my pics of the museum are in his phone!! Argh! Anyways, besides the art that was in the gallery, I stumbled upon a very curious machine. I am totally smitten over the idea of this machine. What is this curious machine that I found?....it's a cigarette machine.....I know, you're saying "Whaat?!" Actually it was a refurbished cigarette vending machine. Instead of vending cigarettes, it sells miniature, cigarette pack sized ART!
So did I buy one of their $5.00 pieces? No......I didn't understand at the time what the heck this thing was!! LOL! ...my son and I proceeded to enter the gift shop. I was going in to purchase some postcards of the works I saw up in the gallery.....yes, they were for Joyce. ;) ...and myself! ....I could barley look at the stuff in the gift shop, because my mind kept on going back to that mysterious retro machine!
My son, who knows I'm too shy to ask about these things, started grilling the cashier for some answers to that freaking machine. (Yeah, I bugged him about it through out the store!) the cashier stopped ringing me up and gave me a postcard. She said, "Everything you need to know is on that postcard and website." *squeal! (yeah, that happened in my head. In reality, I just said, "Oh, thank you.")
The machine is called an ART-O- Mat. Their website tells you how you can become an artist for their vending machine, and where the machines are located. There are about 100 of these machines across the U.S. now and I think there will be more. Here is a video of the founder and how the machine came about. He also shows examples of the art inside of the machines. (The vid is 5 years old, a lot has changed since then...) I will also post a few pictures of other art found inside......hope you enjoy....

There are some awesome things you can get from the machine, but you gotta be careful. There are a lot of cheesy things too. If you want the goods, check out the website for a list of their artist. ...Or become one of their artist! at Artomat.org (http://www.artomat.org/)
