just home from a week of busting our asses at my mom and dad's. so much to do there and so little time and energy. on the plus side, i got to spend mother's day and the whole week with mom and dad and 3 of my favorite kids in the whole world. all in all...a great week but sooooo happy to be home!!

For some reason I've had such a hard time with kentuckydakota's theme... that on top of the hecticness that's still going on with having to go over to indiana every couple of weeks to help my grandmother and dealing with work...
well... for some reason I had it stuck in my head that her theme was "classic literature" instead of "children's literature"... so I racked my brain thinking of a classic story where I didn't have to draw people ;) I was planning on doing Island of Doctor Moreau (one of my faves) so I could do animal headed people haha... I've spent the past 2-3 weeks sketching ideas/options in my sketchbook with no luck of coming up with something good.

Today I thought "I wonder if I could do something like Winnie the Pooh (I even had a picture in my head of what I'd draw)... would that be considered 'Classic Literature'"... so I came in here and looked at her theme again to see if children's books were ok. and that's what her theme IS. :twitcy: so! now I have a direction and am very thankful that I wasn't able to come up with anything with Dr Moreau cause that's definately not kid's material hahaha

*facepalm* anywhoo... the point of the whole story is that I should have it done in a day or two ;)

a good thing is, that things with my grandmother and work will settle down soon! My boss has approved me to work from home part of the week and I'll be staying with her. Things won't be so chaotic and I won't be so exhausted all the time. yay!

Ohh KentuckyD that page is adorable. I forgot to copy my page for that book, but I have a copy of each of my other layouts.

As for the tip ins, I think I can do the actual pages pretty quick (just a few days) if I can get a feel for what is in there and sketch my page ahead of time. I often do my sketch on separate paper then trace it into the book. I would just like to know which stories have been used. I don't want to be a copycat. ;)

I'm sorry I am bad about posting tracking numbers, for two reasons.... first after checking the tracking with the first books i realized that it isn't very accurate at all, second is that I find jotting a name on the PO receipt and sticking it in a pocket on my car visor when I get in my car is the safest way for me to keep track of them. Receipts that make it into my purse often get lost. It's hard to add a tracking number if it's in my car, but I do have it if needed.

Ok - finally I have things cleared up as to what books I have and why - LOL!

Today I got KentuckyDakota's book for Food in Kid's Literature. It had arrived a few days ago, BUT it was delivered to the property management office and not my apt. for some reason. But, it's here on my desk finally, everything looks good.

Also, I have Grrudjules book - illustration of recipe, which I got a week or so ago.

Both will be mailed out by this Saturday via USPS priority mail.

Yaaaaaaaay! :jiggy: Thanks for being so cooperative & keeping me updated guys!!! :wubclub: I know it's only (almost) Wednesday, but IRL this has been a SERIOUSLY stressful week for me... It all started just before the weekend. My boss (who I absolutely adore because he's just that kind of ornery ole guy) took off on a motorcycle trip from Arkansas to Alaska with a buddy... They made it to Arizona & spent the day taking in the sites then stopped to camp that night... And he had a stroke. His wife was on a cruise & couldn't be reached for a couple days... His son was in the Bahamas... And his daughter took off immediately to get to him, leaving myself & my coworkers to hold down the fort at the store.... And it's been one hectic event after the other allllll week (you'd be surprised how much crazy can fit into only two days!!!)... So I've been incredible stressed out & worried about my boss & his entire family---they are like family to all of us who work for them. Its such a helpless feeling for him to be sooooo far away & sick, too. :sad: We got word today that he's improved enough that he's been moved to a rehab that specializes in strokes... But he's not coming back to us for awhile. So... That's something at least. So if any of y'all could spare a few prayers & positive vibes, I would be eternally grateful. The lil mom & pop's store I work at would never be the same without him & his quirky sense of humor and I can't bring myself to even entertain that possibility.

Grrrdjules That sounds like a delightful picnic! I would love the asparagus and shrimp unfortunately my feels very neutral about both. But I think I will try your chicken recipe for a picnic with him. Every now and then we pack a lunch and take it with some of my art supplies to the Fort Bragg Botanicial Gardens and spend the day. With that in mind I found another $12 deal today at the same thrift store. It's a really nice backpack with an outside pocket that has a couple plates and utensils and an extra insulated sleeve that buckles to the side to hold wine or a water bottle. Also bought several books including one I got because of this group with vintage kitchen stuff :D I will share the title later, I just barely looked at it and tossed it in the cart. And some clothes.

Hey I got a chance to read throgh the book I bought yesterday. The Gallery of Regrettable Food (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/101359.The_Gallery_of_Regrettable_Food) here is a link. It's just a humorous outlook on food related stuff from the 30's to the 60's. it was fun but not something I want to keep. I am going to copy the photo on the cover and maybe one or two others. many of the images are blurry from poor quality cookbook photos. I would like to pass it on. Ok guys... I'm looking for a few ideas lol... It's that time of the year when my household cleans out the deepfreezer & cooks all the old stuff to make room for the new veggies & whatnot... I've got a HUGE pot of corn on the cob & a few pounds of chicken cooked (boiled)... I also have a couple gallon bags of okra left to deal with... I'm not even sure what else just yet... :eek: :laugh: I'm looking for ideas to turn this stuff into quick meals for the evenings that da hubs & I both work and don't get home til 7:30pm... I've already made a MASSIVE pan of chicken & dressing for this week... (It smells like thanksgiving up in here! :P ). Any other ideas???

when i boil up a bunch of chicken i have a simple chicken enchilada recipe that i love to make. i mix the chicken up with some cumin and garlic, salt and pepper and a can or two of chopped green chilies. make the sauce by mixing evaporated milk with canned green enchilada sauce. spread a little sauce in a glass 9 x 13 pan, then a layer of flour tortillas, a layer of the chicken, some grated monterey jack cheese and some sauce. then tortillas again, chicken, cheese, sauce. i end with a layer of tortillas and then the remainder of the sauce gets poured over the whole thing. bake in a 350 degree oven until the sauce is bubbly around the edges. sprinkle the top with another layer of monterey jack and return to the oven until the cheese is melted.

Yeah, T, I don't know anything about okra either. I don't think I've ever had it. You can always do a search on pinterest, I get a lot of ingredient specific recipes that way and then you can narrow down what sounds good or not.

I usually just fry my okra... My crew won't eat it boiled & it's too hot for gumbo... If y'all ever make your way to the southern states make it a point to get ya some fried okra somewhere---sooooo yummies!!! :D I have a coworker from Boston who started working at the store at the end of last summer; by which time some of our local farmers have started dropping off to give away to the community their extra produce because they're tired of dealing with it... We got a HUGE bunch of okra. I fried up a batch & made her eat it--:laugh:--her face was PRICELESS!!! It really tastes good, it's just an odd texture if you've never had it before---the battered bits fry up all yummy & crispy while the seeds stay a bit slimey & pop when you chew them. Of course she paid me back by making corn chowder (or chow-dah as she says)---which was also quite yummy! :P

These books are so frigging AWESOME!!! I'm totally stoked to get my hands on the next one (& the next, & the next) because all the art is OFF THE HOOK!!! I can totally feel an addiction coming on! :jiggy:

My one memory of trying fried ocra was crispy on the outside hiding slug guts on the inside. I will never get that picture of slug guts out of my head long enough to try enjoying ocra again-lol! And it was slimy in soup too. I suggest you release it back into the wild and let the snails and slugs take it home for burial. Just a thought. :)

Well that's not good! (just catching up on the slow moley). I don't think I'll send anything first class again. I just opened a case with the USPS online, it says I should get an update in 2 to 3 days. This package has only first class with tracking. This got mailed out at the same time as the one to Indiana did. I will call the postmaster in San Fran later today - tho I don't think they'd know anything different than what's online.

But, if it does turn out we can't find it - I'll be more than happy to buy a new replacement moley, no biggie. I know the art would be lost, but I think most of us have photos of what we made anyway so we can put it in a digital gallery.

Waffle you are very sweet, but there is no need for you to buy another moley for me dear. The post office is to blame. It's not the moley, it's the...sniff...artwork I will morn if it never makes it's way out of the quagmire that is the San Fran sorting office.

But I'm saying a little prayer and holding out hope that somehow it will still turn up. I've had things do a slow delay through the sorting office before and eventually turn up with weird explanations like they sent it back to the county it came from, or whatever.

How about if I get another book started and sent out to Linda so I can keep it in rotation. Then if the other one shows up I will just cut and paste the art together. If it doesn't I'll contact the artists who already worked in it and see what we can work out.(Angelmuz lives here so she's an easy fix, though she loved her page and will mourn it's loss-lol) But that way it won't get off track as far as the rotation. Is that a good idea?
