Thank you everyone for your compliments, they are class a peel stickers, two are placed on vellum, coloured in with markers and blended with the markers and then some sparkles placed in them. Sorta a layering deal.

Apparently you & I think alike. As a newbie, I wanted to prepare early for my first hosting. Then, my sister gave me some beautiful Japanese papers. They shouted "kimono." It seemed like fate. I planned "Geishas & Kimonos" as my first swap, but I had another month to wait before I was eligible to host. I spent some of the time designing and creating Geisha ATCs. Then, 12 geishas later.... your swap showed up. After a few heart-stopping moments, I made cards for your swap using a totally different approach -- kimono quilt patterns -- very graphic rather than realistic/impressionistic.

Questions:
1. May I join?
2. Can you send your addie? (See completed cards.)
3. Later, may I host "Kimonos II", aka "Geishas & Kimonos" without stepping on your toes ?

Take care.

Wow! Kat, I saw your kimono quilt cards...Are those sewn?

kat
05-05-2008, 07:21 PM
sometomato --
No, the kimono quilts are not sewn. However, I was a needle artist in the 1970s when my kids were little: quilts, needlepoint, crewelwork, etc. I never could make all the quilts that I designed in my head. ATCs are incredibily reinforcing --- My first quilt took me 2 years. Comparatively, ATCs are instant gratification!

I've attached a picture of the host gift card I'm sending to altermyworld. It's called "Kimonos & Chaos" and based on a quilt made by Beth Gutcheon named "The Goose is Loose."

Take care.

Kat, that looks like the images are covered by a layer of interfacing! What an idea!

kat
05-06-2008, 07:17 AM
Actually, it is a Japanese paper given to me by my sister: Hemp Flower Ivory. The others have similar papers between the kimonos and the backing. I don't have names for those since they came from a "snack pac" of Japanese papers. My sister gave me a wonderful selection that she bought in Toronto. When going through customs, the officials were most concerned by the larger pieces which were rolled and wrapped. They were pretty sure it was a rifle barrel.

Ang, I am finally sending these off. There is one for you - your choice. I will enclose some $ for postage. (Just a question - Don't you ever need US stamps for return envies? Wouldn't that be a good option to sending loose $$?)

altermyworld
06-20-2008, 04:48 PM
Not really as i have US postage i buy when i go over to the states, i would rather not be out of monies when i comes to the swap i host, as there are 20 + participants, that would be a lot of monies as it cost me 96 cents to mail an envie, so in short i would rather have the 1.00.
Thank you for the question and for hostess card.

Oh yeah! I'm thinking that at some point in the future someone should host a traditional Japanese design swap....I love love LOVE the motifs.

I have been dabbling with shibori. My results are crude but I still like what I am getting . As a matter of fact, I'm going to use some of my shibori silk for this very swap.

Anglo word for shibori = tye dye. But the Japanese do remarkable things with "tye dye".

A couple years ago Zh went to the paper place with a huge order for chiogamyi. :) I still have loads of gorgeous paper. Some i just take out and look at. OOOOOOOOOO thee (BTW what is your real name) i can't wait to see what you have done with this swap, you have me totally intrigued.
ZH? a traditional motif design swap, you mean we would showcase just the design work?

Ah....the JPP used to be my old paper supply place. Man, I miss it.

And I'm currently hoarding some Japanese shibori paper. I doubt that I'll ever use it.

Yeah, like that. People would send in cards featuring cherry blossoms, pine trees (a personal favourite of mine), plovers, and other design motifs that have been used on Japanese arts and crafts. I have a great book on them but I need to hunt down some on-line resources...

Mine were mailed. We had a big holiday last Friday, I hope it doesn't screw up the delivery. I have become very anxious whenever I send anything to Canada. The inconsistent delivery is very disconcerting.

I'd upload to the gallery, but it is a major hassel.

take care Jeanette please don't worry about it.

The duedate has been extended till July the 25th. I am leaving for the states on the 29th and thought i could mail these from there, you would probably receive them sooner and it would give some of the late mailers a few extra days.

I just want to give a shout out to the following swap participants.
Your cards are quite creative and all fit the style of art I love receiving.
Collage kimono by Francie H.
Origami kimono by Bunnie F.
Miniature kimono by Sutefani.

I am glad I joined this swap. Thanks a bunch for these swell cards to add to my collection.
