*****************************************New Rules!******************************************** **

I'm an Envie Addict! Hopefully, there are more of you out there! What? You're a newb? What's an Envie you say? If you don't already know, Envies are altered envelopes. They can be drawn on, painted on, upcycled, collage and mix media up! Sky's the limit. Getting personal mail is nice, but getting a mini traveling museum is the best! We also allow postcards!
So here's what I propose, let's get a good sized group going for a monthly swap. It would be a nice way to get our fix of envies on a regular basis. Let's share our ideas, links to inspiration, and get to know each other as artist.

How the NEW sign up works:

First, I will post a new thread like normal. For the first week I will be accepting players. Players have the 1st thru 7th of the month to come to the thread and say, "I wanna play." Once you join, there is no withdrawing.

Next, I will make up a partner's list and post it on the 8th or the 9th of the month. Once I have the player's list up, I will send everyone my usual monthly update via PM.

My suggested mail out date would be the 15th, but for the most part your Envie needs to be in the hands of your partner by the last day of the month. If anything is late, there is a little forgiveness if you are communicating with your partner.

In the past, we've had a lot of peeps that flaked on their trade. Itrader points will now play a big part in who plays in E.A.U. If you had a wonderful experience, fabulous! Leave positive points. If you had a hiccup, but your not too bent outta shape about it, leave a neutral point. If you had a total "flaker" and your experience was horrible...well then you might want to think about a negative point. (Consider yourself warned.)

How will the points help us? I figure it this way. If you had a neutral point as a result of playing in EAU, you will be given a second chance, but a second one in a row will be considered a negative point. If you've had a negative point within 3 months no matter where you were playing, you cannot participate.

On a lighter note, we celebrate birthdays! When you sign up and it happens to be your birthday month say, "I wanna play and I'm celebrating a birthday!" Other player's just might send ya some happy mail. :D ...just be sure to leave a YouRock point to those that RAK you. ;)

Naked! Is how we send our Envies...as is. However, there has been times that mail has gone missing. If you feel that your Envie might find the same fate, you can send it, within a plain envelope. But! ... your art has to be dressed up with faux postage and addresses. ;)

Stuff, your Envie's with something sturdy like cereal boxes or junk mail. Send it out, but don't post a pic at AFA until you hear that your partner has received it. Save the surprise for them. :) Once, you get word that they have it, share it all over the place. We're nosey! We wanna see too!

Size Rules: Your Envie has to be a minimum of 3 5/8 X 6 1/2 inches. (Small Business Envelope) ...and up...

Thanks for this info Miss Iowa!

Hello Addicts! Here's a publication call for artwork that's right up our alley...

You've got Mail (Art)
Somerset Studio Magazine

Who doesn't love getting mail? It's hard to top a handwritten note found in your mailbox, unless, of course, it's in a beautifully altered envelope. We just adore receiving submissions that have been artfully decorated; they feel so special!

For the March/April 2016 issue of Somerset Studio, we want you to grab your paints and paper and get to work creating gorgeous mail art. Use a manilla envelope or make your own...the choice is yours! We'll be waiting at the mailbox.

Deadline: October 15, 2015.

For general submission guidelines, go here. (https://stampington.com/submissions)

I found the above information on page 139 of the May/June 2015 issue of Somerset Studio. I've been subscribing to this magazine for a couple of years now, but have never submitted anything for publication. I've seen altered envies by EAU members that rival anything Stampington has published, so I would encourage you to submit something if you're so inclined. It won't cost you much (postage there and back, if you want your item returned) and you receive a complimentary copy of the magazine if your item is selected.

Not to mention the praise and adoration of your fellow artists.

Sign me up, Oh Fearless Leader!!
I don't know how well this will work with no computer but I will make the most of it with the phone. My computer is dead. Brother says we will have a funeral for when he's not so busy. That just means he will tear it apart and add it to his various metal piles. My tech guy says there is no reviving it unfortunately.
I will have to figure out how to add pictures with the phone. I'm way to old to be learning new tricks! We'll see how it goes.
Today I am working on paper mâché fishes. I really wanted to crochet another rag rug but I overdid with making fabric yarn yesterday and today my left shoulder, elbow and wrist are killing me. Need to give that arm a rest for a few days. I've made one rug and have enough fabric yarn made to crochet a couple more.
I will go check out that call for entries. Everyone in this group should enter. There are many great Rtists in this group and how cool would it be to see your work in print?
Hope everyone has a fabulous week ahead!

Sara, Donna Welcome back!

R.I.P. Donna's computer

I think we should make that a challenge. From here to the due date we should all try to turn in one mail art to that call of entry. Post to the thread and share if you take up the challenge.

Hello Addicts! I have a short share today. I gotta get ready soon, to go to my usual Monday Career Workshop. Anyhoot, this is just another idea to go with yesterday's share of "sketch a day."

This particular art journal is for the whole year. It's also not sketches, but it would be cool to do it up as a sketch book. The person who created the one pictured below has the art on some kind of ringlet. If you can find some kind of wire with a screw type closure that would be kewl. If not, perhaps a zip tie? With a zip tie, you would have to wait until you were finished to close it up.

I think it would probably easiest to cut up a bunch of tags and throw them in a box or something. Just pick up a tag each day and do up your doodle. Plus they are so small, it would be a quick thang to do. Anyhoot, here's a pic so that you can see what I'm talking about. It's From Gretchenmiller.wordpress.com (https://gretchenmiller.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/212-days-of-revolution-making-my-365-project/)

https://gretchenmiller.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/july2013.jpg?w=380&h=380

I haven't got the time to see what she used to bind her tags, but you might be able to find it on your own on her blog.

Wowza, lotsa activity while I was away. Welcome back peeps. :) So far I don't see any birthday babes. I'll have to double check.

I've had a long day and it isn't over. I have to go to an award ceremony for my youngest kid. It's later tonight. Not sure what the award is for, it just says to be there.

I went to my Career Workshop. It's going well. I'm taking baby steps. I also got some info that was non workshop related. ....I was doing some yard work...using a chain saw...two actually and the chains fell off both of them during the few days that I was using them. I was gonna pay Home Depot to replace it for me. ($18-19) However, the gentlemen sitting at my table explained how it's done and I'm sure I can handle it myself. So....thanks to them I feel a little empowered! ...With the hubby away, I'm learning a lot of Mr. Fix it stuff...

I hear ya Mel! I am pretty much the "man" of the house here. I'm always having to fix things and do what I would call "man" jobs. It's just me, my mom, and my 24 YO nephew (who doesn't contribute anything but a higher electric bill to the household). So if anything is ever going to get done around here, I have to do it. I built a planter this morning and fixed a table. Ugh. A man's work is never done. :biglaugh:

It's always artist choice, so yeah, you could make one before you know your partner. If you do wait to find out who your partner is...most peeps will try to make them something according to their likes on their profile. :) Ask a question anytime...addicts will always chime in and answer. :)

A question for those that use reg envelopes.
Do you prime them? How do you avoid wrinkles?
Ok so that's two questions.

Neener
06-04-2015, 01:02 PM
Sandy I don't think I've ever used a regular envie. They are just too flimsy no matter what you do to them. I always make my own.

Gemininorn
06-04-2015, 01:58 PM
Ah, good to know Neener, I am planning to make my own, too. What kind of paper do you use? I was thinking of using 90lb watercolour paper since I think the heavier one would be too heavy.

Tandy

Good Morning Addicts!
I apologize for my extremely slow start this morning. I woke up with a migraine so I took some meds and went back to bed. I'm starting to feel better now.

Since everyone is talking about envelopes, I think I'll do a share on envelopes today. Regular business envies are rather flimsy although I have used them before. If you do use them, stuff them with cardboard and seal them up before you start arting on them; it helps.

Here is an envelope template you could use to make your own envies. Watercolor paper (I've used both 90 and 140 lbs), Mixed Media Paper, Bristol, Gelli Prints, Scrapbook paper, etc. all work well. This template comes from familycrafts.about.com (http://familycrafts.about.com/od/creativepaper/ss/Blank_Envelope_Template.htm):

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/b8/11/89/b8118984dabf3da51d6de475e37a8df1.jpg

Another alternative is to purchase sturdier envies. I like these ones from the Paper Studio. I buy mine at Hobby Lobby (see attachment).

Dear Addicts:

I am looking for clear cellophane envelopes that have the self-adhesive on the flap, sized to fit a 4x6 postcard. (So, probably sold as 4-1/4 x 6-1/8).

Does anyone have a seller/manufacturer to recommend?

I found a place called Clear Bags (www.clearbags.com) that sells 100 for $6.00, which I thought was an excellent price (don't know what the shipping will be yet). But since I'm not familiar with this place I haven't ordered anything yet.

ETA: How about Jam Paper and Envelope? They offer a lot of different sizes but not the one I'm looking for, so I've sent them an email.

I haven't found anything on Staples' website (my preferred big box office supplier), and I don't want to have to buy a bazillion of them which knocks out some sites that have minimum orders of 1000.

If I was to use a regular Envie....I would only use dry mediums.

Hello addicts :)

Today share will be a little more educational

Lets have a mail art history lectures :)

* It initially developed out of the Fluxus (a name taken from a Latin word meaning "flow, flux" (noun); "flowing, fluid" (adj.)—is an international network of artists, composers and designers noted for blending different artistic media) movement in the 1950s and 60s.

* The American artist Ray Johnson is considered to be the first mail artist.

*Media commonly used in mail art include postcards, paper, a collage of found or recycled images and objects, rubber stamps, artist-created stamps , and paint, but can also include music, sound art, poetry.

*Artist Edward M. Plunkett has argued that communication-as-art-form is an ancient tradition; he posits that mail art began when Cleopatra had herself delivered to Julius Caesar in a rolled-up carpet

*In 1970, Johnson and Marcia Tucker organized The New York Correspondence School Exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York, which was the first significant public exhibition of the mail art genre.

*By the 1990s, mail art's peak in terms of global postal activities had been reached, and mail artists, aware of increasing postal rates, were beginning the gradual migration of collective art projects towards the web.

Tandy, your Sock Monkey shoes are da bomb! LOVE them! I'd them wear out of the house too.

I am back on my dinosaur of a computer. My DIL drove 300 miles round trip to take a look at it for me. I got to see one of the grand-babies and my son as well. That was a huge bonus getting to spend time with little Annabel. She is so funny! I don't know how long this 10 year old machine is going to last but I'll use it till it is dead as a doorknob!
DIL couldn't get Google Chrome to open at all. She took it off and reinstalled it twice and still it doesn't work so I am learning how to navigate in Foxfire instead of Chrome. I can get into Internet Explorer as well, but it's as ancient as this machine and I left IE when I discovered Chrome a few years back so using IE would still make me learn it all over again. I'm a happy camper so I won't complain about my computer.
I will complain about poor old Fred dog though. I'm truly afraid his days are numbered. He's not doing well at all. He's done nothing but sleep all day except for when he trekked down to Ma's house when he saw us pull into her driveway after a trip to town this afternoon. He walked back to my house instead of trying to beat us there by running. His back legs are the problem. We will keep him doped up on Tramadol and see how things go in the next few days. He has lived a good long life (14 yrs) and he's always been a happy dog. I don't want him to suffer through the end of his life. So if you're so inclined, send up some good thoughts for my old dog. He deserves them.

Having a great time here. The weather got cooler, so we sat outside yesterday evening and let my eldest do the BBQ'ing. My gosh he done an amazing job of it. In the early part of the day we did a little retail therapy...nothing really to note about it, except that we went in circles trying to find the entrance to the parking lot! (The strip mall that we went to was near the airport. An already confusing situation.)

My mom and I often sneak off to have a "secret lunch." (*A lunch that we don't tell other family members that we are going to have. It's nice not to have to worry about trying to get everyone's order in....and trying to agree on where to eat.) Anyhoot, we went to a small cafe in the town that my parents live in. We had some Ruben sandwiches and shared a Berry Scone. Lunch was really good... The cafe it's self was an old little chapel

I have a real quick share for you today as I'm about to head out the door for basketball camp. Here is the cutest little sterling silver envelope necklace (http://www.atlamsilver.com/item.php?id=693&subcat=&img=5). Nanner and I actually both have one. Can you believe we went to a junk sale (or was it a trunk sale?) and this lady had two of them! They were only $10 each. So we bought them and then Nanner made me some special Tandy mail to put inside mine. :) Here is a pic:

AWESOME! <3

Aw! I haven't put anything in my little silver envie yet. First thing I did was make some teeny tiny Tandymail!

I think we should try to find one a source to get one for each EAU. The we could do miniature mail month, ha!

Mel, save me a seat, I'll be right there.

Hello Addicts! ...shhh...I'm stealing another pin from Tandy! BUT! She said that her pins visible to everyone is fair game...so I'm using it. The pin shows sketchbook pages that have been splattered or lightly watercolored...then sketched on. Sometimes using the painted splotches as the shape of something sketched or just freely flowing in the background.

The pic below comes from Behance.net (https://www.behance.net/Gallery/See-_-Saw/56191)

Hello Addicts! I'm back to do the share that I promised. Hope you don't mind me sharing some of my pics. :wideeyed:

We went to the Le May Car Museum in Tacoma Washington yesterday...saw a bajillion cars! LOL! (My son's hobby.) Here's a couple of pics that I took.

I had a great time at our live meet in Centralia. We decided not to make too many plans...do some art....go out for lunch. We ate at a fun mom & pop's place called Country Cousins. The food was SO good...and they give you A LOT! I had the clam chowder and sourdough bread.

Here are some of the new stamps that are out now and I picked up at the PO. The first one (the flower) is a forever 1st Class stamp and is actually embossed. It is so cool and pretty too! The second one is the second ounce stamp; now they have a stamp specifically dedicated to this so when the postal rates are raised again (and we know they will be) you can continue using this stamp. They've also done the same things for the postcard stamps, which is my third picture.

We had fish and chips for lunch...walked around town...took pics of flowers...bought and ate $1, 2ft long beef jerky sticks...visited Tillamook creamery...watched cheese being made...sampled it...bought it...*sigh...the ice cream too. Long drive to get to these places...long drive back...was stuck in Portland traffic...

Glad you're having fun, Mel. I don't think I could eat a 2 ft long jerky stick. Well, I probably could, but I'd regret it later. LOL

My mom and I are having a garage sale (started yesterday). I made about $35 yesterday. Mom made about $45. My brother dropped off a couple of things that sold. I don't have that much stuff out. Wish more of my mom's things would sell. She needs to start downsizing. :twitcy:

Hello Addicts

Today share will be about journaling and journaling prompts. I love looking at journal pages that have pictures, writing and some embellishments.

Miss Iowa, I was watching a news story, where a son was helping his elderly father move. The son was helping to get rid of his things. With almost every item the son held up...the dad would say keep. The son said, we are "same sizing" at this point. :)

Sara, I have a hand full of sketchbooks that I have one or two pages art'ed in...I can never seem to keep at it. ...However, maybe when I get that urge again...I'll pick up a book I already own...maybe that'll get me a book with a few more pages in it! :D

I feel his pain. My mom talks the talk, but she don't walk the walk. LOL

Yepper I can attest to this from firsthand experience. We are still sorting all of my Mom's household that she brought with her. We'll be sorting next time this year. It's hard for them to let go even when they know they should.

Good morning peeps! To those that are celebrating, Happy Father's day. :)
I've been recruited to get some items at the grocery store...so I will be doing a share a little later. Today we are going to BBQ and chillax. What is everyone else up to today?

I feel fortunate to still have my dad with us (he's 79 now). It's hot and humid today and we had a busy week with the garage sale, so we're just hanging out today. I might take them out for an early dinner since I don't feel like cooking. lol. We met my brother and his wife for dinner Friday night. My other brother who lives in southern California is currently on a fishing trip in Montana; he called this morning.

On my blog today I posted the father's day card (http://hiddencreations.blogspot.com/2015/06/happy-fathers-day.html) I made for my dad, and a picture of him when he was about 20 years old. Maybe I should add a current picture, so everyone can see how well he's aged. ;)

Miss Iowa, you are perfectly right, he has aged quite well, and what a beautiful card he got.

...eek....sorry gals...I dont have a share today. My mom and I made a semi big breakfast today. I sorta made up my own bread pudding. I mixed up pumpkin pie filling...and added an extra egg...and a little more evaporated milk...less sugar...chopped pecans....french bread loaf....and some left over sweet bread.....baked it.....turned out pretty good! My mom did up a colossal sized BBQ....we just came in from sitting out on the porch....

...cheers to your dad's ...the ones that are still with us...and to the ones that still live in our hearts. <3<3<3.....Aw, Im so mushy!

Yes, Miss Iowa, my mailbox will be checked and my cats will be fed (I hope) by a friend of mine. She is aware of my regular happy mail and will probably stack it in a separate pile to all the bills...
I will premake an envie for next month, is there any way I can sign up before the 1st of next month? I don't know yet how internet access will be for the first week of my being away.

Good Morning Addicts!
I had a paid Graphic Design job that I had to work on this morning so I'm just now getting to post a share. Also, I will be out of town the next three days, so my postings will be sporadic if at all.

Today I have a video on creating envelopes with the Envelope Punch Board. She gives good directions. Also at the end she decorates her envelope (well sort of, nothing like what we do). However, I really like how she does the label and I want to get that stamp set she uses.
