05-14-2008, 02:37 PM
i am so thrilled with the sign -up ladies - thank you for you enthusiasm:jiggy::jiggy:

05-14-2008, 03:20 PM
Here's my first one. She looks a little as though she's under a quilt, I'm afraid. I may not be through but I wanted some feedback. Metallic gold, of which there is quite a lot does not scan too well. I think he usually stuck with brunettes. I found it difficult to include as much as I would like in this small format--but fun!

05-15-2008, 04:04 AM
wow - a fast worker - she looks great - you're right about the dark hair - he also uses pattern on pattern - I am impressed though as I haven't started yet - I am waiting 'til the exhibition opens to see the real thing - I've only seen one original and that was in Venice:wideeyed:

05-15-2008, 09:18 AM
Thanks. I've looked at lots of prints and lots of artists who work in his style. I was trying for pattern on pattern, but not too successfully. I was intrigued with the attempt and so started early---although I have several swaps that are due earlier. A whole exhibit should be great fun. I have seen a couple of the real things somewhere.
The next will be better, I think.

05-15-2008, 10:31 PM
egod you first one looks great . I have done my first one too my scanner is down and it's a watercolour of the lady in the hat and feather boa! I am quite happy with the result;)

05-16-2008, 01:04 PM
well done I'm sure it is great - keep up the good work:yes:

05-19-2008, 05:02 PM
Would you consider a 7th international? I'd love to participate in this swap. Although I'm new here at atcsforall, you can see some of my previous atcs at angie19130.blogger.com.

05-19-2008, 05:44 PM
Can I squeeze in?

05-20-2008, 06:01 PM
You might enjoy checking out this artist's work, http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=166850302
It's a modern interpretation of Klimt.

05-21-2008, 07:24 AM
Thanks for squeezing me in! Here are my cards made with watercolours, pen and ink, metallic acrylic, gold leaf, silver pen and collage

05-21-2008, 09:09 AM
Can I go on the waiting list if you do a second Klimt swap please - this is my favourite artist and I am gutted not to have spotted this sooner!

05-21-2008, 10:04 AM
I love those! I couldn't picture what you were doing with watercolor, but you did it with great success. I love the looseness with which you interpret his style. Mine felt all squinchy! I will try again.

05-21-2008, 10:17 AM
great job LoraLou! Very inspiring!

05-21-2008, 01:23 PM
of course redplantlady - sorry you missed out:cry:

05-23-2008, 05:47 PM
I am so envious of you people who are so much closer to the rest of the world!

05-25-2008, 04:45 AM
do tell us more -where do you live my geography of the US isn't good:wub:

05-25-2008, 04:41 PM
Was that directed to those of us who wished we lived somewhere that Turkey was not the end of the earth from? I live in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, which borders the Mississippi River on the east side and Oklahoma on the west. It is a beautiful area but 1000 miles from New York or San Francisco. I did do the "grand tour" of Europe twice with students, but we are located far from the centers of things. Dallas is not terribly far, but not a destination that has appealed to me a lot. I have been to Disney World 10 or more times, I lost count, with students also. Also to Canada. You UK/England people seem able to dash off to Egypt or Turkey or other exotic locations. No?

05-25-2008, 05:26 PM
And I live on the north coast of California in a pretty small community. About 5 hours from San Fran and 8 hours from Portland, OR. I guess I could drive to those places, but I don't think my beater Bessie would make it. She gets me 'round town alright, but long drives are too much for her.

05-26-2008, 07:32 AM
thanks for that katilady and egod - diastances in US seem so large to us in the Uk- Ilive in the North West between Liverpool and Manchester - we can be in London or Edinburgh in 4 hours and our flight to Turkey is only 4 hours so I guess we are lucky in that respect:radar:

05-26-2008, 11:05 AM
Have a great time, where are you going in Turkey? I have been to Marmaris and Turunch (?sp). Loved both times! The food is great!

05-26-2008, 01:35 PM
we are going to Bodrum on an all inclusive so all i have to decide is what goes on MY plate and in MY glass which will make a real change;) - I will be on the look - out for collage papers and textiles and I intend to do lots of swimming:wub:

05-26-2008, 02:31 PM
Bodrum is lovely too! If you get a chance to go to Pamukale I would recomend it and Efes! Ancient history! The markets are fabulous, be prepared to bargain over lots of Apple tea!!!

05-26-2008, 02:33 PM

How fun for you! I would love to be able to go tho Turkey just for art supply shopping! I bet you'll have a blast. Do share some photos when you return!

05-26-2008, 04:43 PM
My son raved about fish sandwiches served off the fishing boats made from their catch with a very hot sauce--I think in Istanbul.
When I was traveling, I was not into collage. What a missed opportunity! Have a wonderful time, and do share your photos.

06-02-2008, 06:41 AM
loralou's cards are the first to arrive and very lovely they are:wideeyed: - thank you for my extra card - I will do all trader ratings when all the cards are in if that is ok with you all - it will make sure I don't make any mistakes if I do them in 1 sitting - remember I am off line for aweek from this Friday:cool:

06-04-2008, 01:51 PM
hope you are all thinking hard about Klimt - he was featured on the Culture Show on UK tv the other night - take care while I am away and keep those creative juices flowing:chatterbox:

06-14-2008, 03:30 AM
hi everyone Im back from Turkey - didn't do any shopping - ended up with asevere allergic reaction to something that made my heart go a bit off and gave me a swollen face - spent 7 hours on a drip + another injectoin midweek:goofy: - but hotel, weather and food was fantastic:yes:- now how are you all getting on? hope you are feeling inspired:wub:

06-14-2008, 09:12 AM
I m trying this thread again as my messages don't seem to be getting in the threads:wideeyed:

06-14-2008, 12:37 PM
I am thinking hard about this swap. I think I want to do Klimt with a modern twist, we'll see how it works. I've got my ideas, now I just need to start!

06-15-2008, 10:40 AM
that sounds great - it is important to let him inspire you not just copy a design - look forward to seeing it:yes:

06-21-2008, 03:40 PM
Hi everyone - I know there is still a month to go but I am wondering if you are all out there and are having some Klimt ideas going on in your head - 2 people have withdrawn but we have been joined by rockstargirl and kalipso84 so i hope you guys are ok too - give me some thought please guys:unsure::unsure::rolleyes::twitcy:

06-21-2008, 10:48 PM
I have two more cards mostly ready. They did not scan well, look very dark in areas that have a lot of metallic gold in them really. I'm trying to get these in the mail on Monday.

06-22-2008, 07:27 AM
these look great Erin - a really good take on the klimt - I look forward to seeing them:jiggy:

06-26-2008, 12:13 PM
Mandy your cards are here - they are lovely - thank you for my card - hey guys how you doing?:v_spin:

06-26-2008, 05:34 PM
When I was planning to mail my cards on Monday, I was thinking they were due on July 1 and very worried they wouldn't get there in time. When I realized the deadline was August 1, I slowed down and although they were already packed for mailing, I haven't got to the PO yet. I'll get them off Saturday! I just didn't want you to worry that they were lost in the mail.

06-28-2008, 03:24 AM
I did that too this week - had a bit of a panic attack with a swap I was in but it's ok now - hope you are enjoying doing them

06-29-2008, 11:56 AM
Hi everyone - 2 swaps in - one month to go - 2 have withdrawn but we did have a waiting list so we are back up to 12 - how is it going - please check in and let me know how you are doing - really looking forward to seeing your work:jiggy:

06-29-2008, 12:14 PM
I mailed them yesterday.

07-02-2008, 11:37 PM
Oh no! I just found one of them. I'll get it in the mail to you tomorrow.

07-03-2008, 04:56 AM
no probs Erin - come on guys how are you all doing?:twitcy: - are you still inspired? - I just love playing with gold:D:wub:

07-04-2008, 11:41 AM
Erin -:laugh::yes:cards came today - super - well done - thanks for my special card and the book

07-12-2008, 12:52 AM
At last! 2 are done and a 3rd is started. This has been an incredibly challenging swap for me. I even considered withdrawing. I LOVE Klimt, but man, he is hard to copy, especially when you are a collage artist and he is a painter. I am too shy to show my finished cards, I hope they are good enough!

07-12-2008, 06:36 AM
I know exactly what you mean - but your work is lovely always and remember it is 'inspired' not a copy - glad you didn'y withdraw:spinny:

07-12-2008, 12:21 PM
Oh thanks Janice. These cards are definitely an interpretation! My goal is to finish the last card this weekend and mail on Mon, but of course I saved the hardest for last, lol!

07-13-2008, 11:16 PM
Last one finished and it was soooooo hard to do! The vision I had was not what came out on paper, but I did my best and it doesn't totally suck, lol!

07-14-2008, 12:42 AM
I love it Katilady! very cool. I have 2 finished. I hope to get the last one finished tonight and scan them. Then send them out tomorrow.

07-14-2008, 07:15 AM
I really love that last card - a real interpretation:notworthy:

07-14-2008, 04:22 PM
Thanks ya'll! Cards were mailed out today!

07-16-2008, 02:51 AM
Here are 2 of them. The other 2 are variations of these. 3 for the swap and 1 for our hostess.

I hand beaded the wrap and added stickles accents. Based on the, "Portrait of Adele" painting

Done freehand in stickles. Based on the, "Tree of life" painting.

07-16-2008, 03:21 AM
great work - look forward to seeing them

07-16-2008, 09:28 AM
I just wanted to pop in and say there is some beautiful work on this thread! Kudos to everyone :)

07-16-2008, 09:48 AM
Non-participating onlooker here. I love this swap! Another one of my favorite artist to be inspired by. You all are doing a wonderful job!

07-16-2008, 10:12 AM
Wow Nicole those are great! What are stickles BTW?

07-16-2008, 02:38 PM
Stickles are kinda like glitter glue (except they suck as glue). They are a little bottle of basically liquid glitter. They dry flat, not puffy like some of the other kinds. You can see them here (http://www.rangerink.com/products/prod_decorativeglue_stickles.htm)

07-16-2008, 03:50 PM
I like your interpretations. Thanks for posting them.

07-17-2008, 11:49 AM

Hi everyone I'm back - wonderful cards have arrived from Ibus, Brightspark and Susietex - well done everyone - I guess we all appreciate how much work went into Klimts paintings after our own little ones!!!!!! - had a great time in Kircudbright - it is agreat town - went to AE Hornel's house - if you don't already know his work look him up on Google - Jeff and I just love him from way back so it was a joy to see so much of his work in one place and see his garden and his studio - it was nearly as good as going to Monet's garden and house in France!!!- Kircubright also ha lots of great small galleries and we went o Songs of Praise and a Scottish night on the Harbour and agreat tour of the town with folk dressed in costume doing little scenes from the town's past
will sort out returns and trader ratings in the next cople of days:yes::D:yes:

08-02-2008, 10:59 PM

08-07-2008, 07:00 AM
I have just come back from the post - kalipso84's card did not arrive Im afraid but I wanted to get the cards on their way before the weekend - hope you like your cards - the standard was really high:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:- thank you for joining in - it was a shame we lost some of the original members - I am on my way to the klimt exhibition tomorrow and I know I shall appreciate just how lon each piece must have taken!!!!!!!!!

08-07-2008, 12:06 PM

08-08-2008, 03:23 PM
I have just got back from our day in liverpool- it was our wedding anniversary today - according to chinese belief it is full of good omens - 08. 08. 08 - and 38 years as well!!!!!- the exhibition was really interesting - I didn't know there was a link with Rennie Mcintosh when we did the Glasgow trip earlier this year - no trees, plenty of erotic images - not much gold - but the baby picture that I worked on and used as an inspiration- worth the visit - I hope some of the swaps have landed and you are enjoying the hard work of our swappers - please let me know when they land:wideeyed::wideeyed::wideeyed:

08-08-2008, 06:39 PM
Mine have landed, but I've been running around like a blue ar*ed fly today and now they're in the other room and I'm in the bedroom, exhausted! I will update who they were from later.
Happy Wedding anniversary :notworthy: I managed 30 before walking out!

08-08-2008, 08:57 PM
*giggle* "blue arsed fly"

Is that like the American saying "running around like a chicken with my head cut off?" do you really have flies with blue bottoms?

08-08-2008, 09:43 PM
Exactly the same! And yes, in SA you get flies with blue bottoms! :D

08-09-2008, 04:51 AM
I always thought it was the midges up there that got you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

08-09-2008, 10:56 AM
I always thought it was the midges up there that got you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is! Haven't seen a blue arsed fly since I left South Africa!

08-09-2008, 01:21 PM

WOW! Yours arrived quickly!

08-10-2008, 01:52 AM
I know. My mail from international places seems to go and come really quickly. I wonder if it's because I am in between 2 big airports? My US mail, though takes forever.

08-10-2008, 12:55 PM
glad they are arriving and you are enjoying them

08-10-2008, 04:29 PM
Now I am confused, I could have sworn I posted yesterday that my cards had arrived.....

They did, and I would like to thank Mandy, Rockstarsgirl and Loralou for great cards and to Janice for hosting the swap.

I think I have already left rep points, but I don't think I can check this? Please let me know if I haven't . I double checked itrader, that is okay.

08-10-2008, 05:31 PM
You did leave reps, bright-spark. At least I have one. I think you're ok.

08-12-2008, 08:34 PM
Yay! Cards arrived! Janice you are an awesome host, thank you! Big, huge thanks to the following artists: Bright-Spark (Klimt Mermaids); Egod (Geometric Shawl); rockstartsgirl (Based on 'Portrait of Adele'). Wonderful work!
