View Full Version : Glitter, glitz and bling! multi-media Due date: August 27

06-11-2016, 12:24 AM
Due Date: August 27
last postage date for non-Australians: August 13
I live in Australia - mail will NOT reach me quickly! I normally allow 2 weeks when mailing my swaps to anywhere else in the world - I suggest that you do the same.
cards: 3 for 3
media: any and all
participants: 50

This is a swap for all that glitters and shines. I LOVE getting cards that have: glitter (well attached) or glitter glue, Twinkling H2Os, Liquid Pearls, Stickles, pearls and rhinestones, shiny embossing powder, Perfect pearl mists, shiny papers, metallic inks and foils, brads or eyelets, gel pens and. . . (you get the idea ;))

Due date:
Cards are to be in my hands by August 27. I will mail your return cards as soon as possible, but remember, it took 2 weeks to reach me so they will take 2 weeks to reach you.

Australian players - please include a stamp equivalent to your postage
International players - a well hidden US$1 bill.
ALL players please include a LARGE address label (at least 2"x2") ,I will provide envelopes and Australian postage for international players.

1. Do your best work - I plan to swap like-for-like, as much as I can.

2。Clearly write your USERNAME and the SWAP NAME on the back of all your cards (so you can get fun rep points) and on the back of your mailing envelope. I am running a few swaps and do not want to put you with the wrong returns.

3. Please mail early to allow time to reach Australia.

4. An extra card for the swap host (in line with the swap theme) is greatly appreciated but is not required.

5. Embellishments are fine. The completed card needs to fit into standard pockets and the embellishments need to be securely fastened so they don't fall off during shipping. If it is too bulky it is more than likely that the card may not reach me - either because the envelope has been torn and the card lost, or it is too heavy.

6. Have fun!!

7. I will give iTrader feedback when I receive your cards, and will also update this post showing that your cards have arrived. In return I encourage you to give iTrader to me when you receive your swap returns, and Rep points for the artists whose cards you receive. After all, knowing where your cards went is half the fun. (I think)

beachcomber and Gresha - you are welcome to sit on the lurker's couch but it is so much fun to only spend a local stamp and get your returns FIRST.

just bumping us up in the forum list.

06-20-2016, 07:31 PM
I love shiny things! I usually have to try and control myself when it comes to sparkling up my ATCs for swaps, haha. Please sign me up!

06-21-2016, 12:49 PM
Sign me up, please.
Is a Global US stamp okay, or do you have to have a $1.00 bill?
...I would prefer not to send cash through the mail.

06-21-2016, 05:57 PM
rapgardenpainter I asked my P.O. if I could send a US global stamp for a return from a foreign country and they said nope...it has to originate in the US in order to use it. I tried too!

06-21-2016, 09:49 PM
I must say that I am soooo excited about these cards!!! I am having sooo much fun! I truly have been enjoying the process and playing around, pulling out papers and items that I haven't used in a long time!!! I am so pleased with the two that I have completed and enjoying working on the two that I am still creating. This swap was a GREAT idea!!!!

06-22-2016, 09:55 AM
welcome ErsatzEpiphany (can there be too much sparkle on a card?! Bring it on!) and rapgardenpainter

A Global US stamp is fine by me as I can then send it as postage for the next US swap that I am in (of which there are many). It wouldn't work as well with me sending you an Australian stamp as there are not that many Hosts down here.
Any country will only accept its own stamps as legal tender for postage (I have some great stamps gained as leftovers from living in various places). I find the different values required by different countries to be interesting - they are all doing the same job. . .

ThouArtDelyrias - don't keep us in suspense. . . I need to SEE these wonderful cards! Glad that you are having so much fun with them.

Have a look in my Gallery - my 4th card for the Washi tape swap is made with some gold embellished tape that I couldn't resist on my last shopping trip. I toned it down for that swap, I wonder how mad I can get when there are no restraints as in THIS swap?

06-22-2016, 10:01 AM
Oh that's a great idea donnacr I hadn't thought about sending you a global forever that you could use as your return postage from a swap originating in the us! It's all becoming clear to me now lol. I will do that for this swap.

06-27-2016, 03:17 AM
OH BOY!!! :jiggy: These were fun and I LOVE making anything that looks shiny and sparkly!!! The scan is not great because they have some dimension to them...The black one is one of my favorite techniques!
cover card with super sticky double sided tape, lay a piece of lace down on top. put black glitter on and rub in then pull the lace off and do the same with white glitter. It looks just like the lace but in glitter form!
the other cards have a glitter spray on them that I LOVE!!! I get it from Crafters Companion and it is the BEST!!!
Hope these are ok! :jiggy:

06-27-2016, 09:27 AM
Ooohhhh gorgeous TAD!! I didn't know that technique with the lace love that idea!

06-27-2016, 03:24 PM
Thanks for the double sided tape idea. Going to do some glitter fun now. yippy

06-27-2016, 06:36 PM
Those cards are JUST what the Host ordered!! Gorgeous creations and did I see a glitter shaker at the bottom of your 'Life is hard' card?

Super sticky double sided tape is good for filling in die cuts too - that is how I made this butterfly (I used plain paper to cover the parts that I didn't want a particular colour as I sprinkled the fine glitter)

06-28-2016, 01:31 AM

06-28-2016, 08:56 AM
Lurkers are always welcome Monroy28 (but you know that you secretly want to join the glittery fun ;))
You have me intrigued with your split location of California/France - not just a day trip apart, are they?

06-28-2016, 04:46 PM
Here are my cards, Glitter Blues- I hope these are ok?

06-28-2016, 06:34 PM
pennydoodles - they are more than okay - they are fantastic!! I love the way that you have used the positive and negative shapes on your 2nd and 3rd cards. Have you used a metal sheet or is it just metal finish card?

06-28-2016, 06:45 PM
Oh thanks Donnacr I didn't see this till now. I used a sheet of metalic gift wrapping paper. I love recycling old gift bags, gift wrapping stuff, old table clothes, etc. The paper is really thin. there are some sticky rhinestones but they are tiny and hard to see.

06-28-2016, 07:20 PM
Do you mean on the 'fingers' on the 3rd card? I thought they looked great.

06-28-2016, 08:16 PM
the finger shape silver is an old metallic gift bag. it's like it's all sorts of colors when you move it.

06-30-2016, 01:25 AM
now I REALLY can't wait to see them in real life and play with them.

06-30-2016, 11:53 PM
Sparkels sparkels sparkels !!!

Saw this t-shirt the other day with the text: 'I eat GLITTER for breakfast'
That could be me ;)

Reminds me also of this quote from a cartoon with mice in them where they find a sparkling locket or something and one of them sais: 'Sparkly misses B!

Oh yeh, did I say sign me up plz yet ? ;)

07-01-2016, 12:22 AM
Lurking :)

07-01-2016, 07:53 PM
Daphne75 - I love your attitude! We ALL need a little sparkle in our lives, don't we? Welcome to this swap.

mcgillisj - you know that you are secretly just waiting till you have made your cards till you sign up. . . Can't wait to have you join us.

Lurking!!!! My favorite color is sparkle :-P

Miss Fame
07-02-2016, 02:05 PM
I'm sorry, but I have changed my mind. I can't be on the lurking couch. I must be...signed up! I DO want to play! Let me be your lucky 13...and get ready for an explosion of sparkle!

07-02-2016, 08:23 PM
13 really IS my lucky number so a very warm welcome to you Barkesm

I LOVE explosions of sparkle!!!:jiggy::jiggy:

07-03-2016, 09:53 AM
I want to play. Someone gave me glitter as a gift. I really thought, WHY? because I really dont use glitter too much. I could have returned it to amazon, but thought I should just find a way to use it in my art.

So yeppers, I want in on this. I might not even use the glitter. I have shinny paper that I love and want to use.

Please stand by for the shiny muse to arrive and create some art.

07-03-2016, 01:11 PM
Went to our local (1,5 hour drive away though) "black market/bazaar"
Found this awesome Chinese shop with the most wonderfull sparkly ribbon with color variation lengthwise... LOVE it !!
Ofc I had to have me some so I bought a blue and green one which reminds me of the colors of the sea, a gold and red one which is like fire, a pretty purple one and one with velvet and sequence on them.... Soooo pretty and only 1 euro for 2,5 meters.
Well pleased with this trip :) we took the trip for a late fathers day outing, cause I didn't know what to get my dad, so I said, you can pick anything you like. He picked an Indian lunch which he enjoyed very much :)
We had fun :)

07-03-2016, 07:03 PM
welcome CastleQueen5 - NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH GLITTER?!?:swoon: Have fun exploring its uses.

Daphne75 - those ribbons sound gorgeous! I can't wait to see what you make with them (AND Dad got something he wanted too - win/win!)

07-03-2016, 07:05 PM
Just a quick plug - if you find that you are on a roll with all your glittery things, or find that you make too many cards - have a look at my July PAT (just click on my signature link).
I have continued the shiny theme there and would love to see you join me again

07-03-2016, 09:03 PM
I have made that lace technique eons ago. I really have forgotten how to do that technique. I am sure I could google it. It seems like so many people shun glitter that I have not been using it much.

When my friend asked if I liked glitter (for a gift) I thought she meant do I like glittery things. Which I do. She paid $10 for this set of glitters on amazon. I thought that maybe the glitter muse was knocking on my door and I better answer. For that reason I didnt return the set of loose glitter.

I also really like glitter glue (can you say Dollar store) and stickles.

07-04-2016, 05:03 AM
Glitter... the fairy dust of life :)

07-05-2016, 08:11 PM
I am just popping in to stay I "thought" about glitter today, but didnt do any art with it today. I think it is the thought that counts. :twitcy:

07-05-2016, 08:46 PM
I love that you 'thought' about glitter - it is a lovely, shiny thought but to play with glitter is even better!

07-08-2016, 01:05 AM
I pulled out that above mentioned glitter but used it in a coffee journal. The gold glitter. It was great. I am inspired.

07-09-2016, 12:12 AM
CastleQueen5 - so glad that you are now inspired - I can't wait to see where this inspiration leads you

welcome Dreamwood's Butterfly - if you have any questions feel free to either ask in the thread or send me a PM. We can all remember the confusion of being new.

07-09-2016, 09:27 PM
I will join please

07-09-2016, 09:42 PM
Welcome londonont1 - I can't wait to see what you create.

If people want some glittery inspiration have a look in my PAT Gallery where I have a selection of samples for the different groups in my 'Shimmer and shine' PAT

07-10-2016, 02:51 AM
Made mine last night, so much fun !!
Well pleased with the results if I do say so myself;)

07-10-2016, 03:32 AM
we all need to see!! we need to see!

07-11-2016, 03:26 AM
Wanted to upload them but the spray glue I used isn't drying :(
Anyone got any tips/ideas how I can fix this ? It's allready been 2 days but it's still a little sticky...

07-13-2016, 10:39 PM
would like to participat:idea:e in this one.

07-14-2016, 01:34 AM
SueStultz - welcome to this swap and this site. If you have any questions feel free to either ask in the thread or send me a PM - we all remember how daunting this site can be when you are new (I am STILL finding areas that I have not been)

ThouArtDelyrias - your stunningly shimmery cards arrived today. They are GORGEOUS!!

07-16-2016, 04:20 AM
Had to add some extra glitter to make them not sticky any more.

but hey, what's a little extra glitter in a Glitter, glits ans BLING-Swap ? :)

07-16-2016, 06:39 AM
They look fantastic Daphne75, I can't wait to see them in real life (and you are so right about extra glitter!)

07-16-2016, 08:03 PM
I will be gone Aug 2 to Sept 1st. I am going to go to Michigan and help my mother take care of my dad. Since I leave in 2 weeks, I am going to drop out of all the swaps I can to clear up my schedule. This is one swap I need to withdraw from to keep my life sane.

07-16-2016, 09:04 PM
No problems CastleQueen5 - thanks for telling me

07-17-2016, 11:35 AM
great cards daphne!

07-17-2016, 10:19 PM
OMG I have glitter EVERYWHERE AND ALL OVER ME.... okay so my craft area is IN MY BED because I do my arting while my wife rests and I watch Netflix..... so my bed and I are sparkling!!!

But when I am done with the card, how do I "seal" it all in or do I?

-Sean

07-18-2016, 01:07 AM
Done with my cards.... had fun making the mess and hope they turned out okay for you all!!!

Donna will post as soon as you send PM with address so I make sure I have the correct one....

07-18-2016, 06:45 AM
Those are great

07-18-2016, 06:50 AM
You're lucky that I was skimming the threads today - if you want my address always safer to send a PM.

tellurien - great cards! I have heard that some people use hairspray to hold their glitter in place. I just press hard and then wave it so that I wear the extra.;)
PS I have signed you up - welcome!

07-18-2016, 07:43 AM
Four cards are going out in today's mail.

07-18-2016, 04:26 PM
Great cards, Sean !! Worth a glittery bed ;)
(I'm sometimes covered in glitter for days, and so is my daughter ;) )

07-18-2016, 07:42 PM
thanks rapgardenpainter

I think that we should all wear our glitter as a badge of pride.

07-19-2016, 11:39 AM
I mailed mine today.

07-20-2016, 08:23 AM
pennydoodles - thanks for telling me

07-22-2016, 08:18 PM
This swap has my wheels turning! Lurking for now...

07-23-2016, 10:27 PM
oo-oo, I like the sound of your wheels turning Jennifer, I hope that you will be back

07-25-2016, 09:47 PM
makermamma - of course there is room, I will PM you my address.

For everyone who is still to mail their cards - it is now only a month from Due Date so that means only 2 weeks before all International cards (and that is most of you :)) have to be in the mail.

07-27-2016, 09:47 PM
Glitter, Glitz and Bling eeek I love them all - better check my schedule so I can see if I can play.

07-28-2016, 04:11 AM
ICraft - I would love to have you come and join us but the International mailing date is looming - August 13 so you will have to be organised.

07-29-2016, 03:13 PM
Sent my cards today

07-29-2016, 06:12 PM
thanks for telling me - I can't wait to see them

08-01-2016, 07:39 AM

Here are my cards, ready to go out

08-01-2016, 09:08 AM
Love the peacock

08-01-2016, 04:59 PM
Thx crafty

08-01-2016, 07:43 PM
cinlan - love all the different ways of adding glitter and glitz. Can't wait to see them in real life - address is sent.

08-03-2016, 02:51 PM
Can I still join this swap? My cards are made and can be mailed tomorrow. I will pm you for address.

08-03-2016, 07:30 PM
RaineyDay - welcome to the swap (PM with address has been sent)

08-04-2016, 07:41 PM
today I was inundated with mail and cards for this swap were among them. I received cards from: pennydoodles, rapgardenpainter, londonont1 and tellurien.

The returns for this swap are going to be amazing! Thanks to all who have sent me a Host card - I know it is just a bribe so that I don't run off with ALL these gorgeous cards, but they are always treasured and appreciated.

Unfortunately it is looking as though the time for mail to get to me is stretching closer to 3 weeks than to the 2 I advised you to allow. So, if you are International (and that is most of you) I would recommend that you try to get your cards in the mail soon.

08-07-2016, 05:42 PM
Mailing in the morning. Sorry for the glare on the heart. It is foil.

08-07-2016, 06:59 PM
catb - you are making it very difficult to choose a Host card - they are all great and I can't wait to see them in real life.

08-07-2016, 07:14 PM
Thanks, Donna :D

08-08-2016, 07:12 AM
I like glitter, but not so much that it stays for days. May I be selective with my glitz? For example, an outline or smidgen of glitter gel pen here and there?

08-08-2016, 08:44 PM
My cards should be arriving any day now

08-08-2016, 09:31 PM
redwheelbarrow - I agree with you - I don't like glitter that stays with me for days either so selective, well stuck down glitter is definitely the go. I find that Stickles brand and other glitter glues work well for not shedding everywhere but still giving that wonderful look of glitter and glitz.
The idea of this swap is not to be too subtle with your glitz but not to have me wearing it either.

cinlan - not in today's mail but I will tell you as soon as they arrive

Daphne75 - sorry for the delay but your cards arrived just as I was leaving to catch a plane to spend the weekend with my grandson for his 2nd birthday - thanks for all the extras
Dreamwood's butterfly - your cards arrived in today's mail but I haven't had a chance to open them yet. I will give iTrader when I return from a friend's birthday lunch.

Yes, I apologize now to whomever gets mine.... first time working with glitter and I have no clue how to get it to stick better.....

PS - I am still waking up looking like a fairy sprinkled me while I slept

08-09-2016, 05:30 AM
tellurien - don't worry too much, I think that I am covered in most of the glitter that came loose in your cards' travels. :D
I have found that you treat glitter very much like embossing powder, except instead of the wet ink used for embossing powder you use wet glue. Cover the area you want to glitter with a decent amount of glue, sprinkle liberally with glitter then, using a scrap piece of paper, press firmly all over the area that you glittered. Turn the card over and, again over a scrap piece of paper, tap sharply to dislodge all glitter not stuck firmly to glue (this excess glitter can now be returned to its container). If you find that there are some bare patches add more glue and repeat the process.

Or you can use glitter glue like Stickles.

Does anyone else have a different way of avoiding the glitter explosion?

08-09-2016, 07:02 PM
That's pretty much how I stick my glitter too. Stamping Up has a Heat and Stick powder that really makes it so nothing flakes off and I love my Stickles too! But then I also don't mind glitter all over the place either!
Donna, can you PM your address to me? I didn't save it somehow. I'll get my cards out by the 13th!

08-09-2016, 09:18 PM
I'm sorry but I need to withdraw from this one. I'll catch the next one hopefully!

My cards are being mailed tomorrow. :) Main images are embossed, backgrounds distressed ink with random stamping, smothered in stickles, gel pens, and crystal embellishments. Click here (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/index.php?n=482717) to see them in my gallery.

nancyjb - address sent

heidiwork - sorry you have to go but thanks for telling me

Barkesm - I can't wait to see those cards in real life - they look amazing! I love the flourish swan in your 3rd card - is it a die cut?

08-11-2016, 07:37 PM
Those are great Barkesm! I love the chandelier/dancer card especially!

08-12-2016, 01:01 AM
I dreamt about glitter last night... I was at work and one of my colleagues came to ask me something. Her whole face covered with a sparkly white/yellow glitter. I said: oh! I love your glitter! And she said thank you, as if it was the most common thing, like regular make up. I remember not finding it weird myself, just beautiful....

08-12-2016, 10:10 AM
That is fantastic! There should be more glitter in the world as it IS beautiful! :D

08-14-2016, 12:54 AM
ersatz epiphany - your wonderful cards have arrived (they are modelled on Pacman, aren't they?). I love all the different ways that you have added glitter and glitz AND bling!!

I really love the envelope you sent everything in as I am thinking of making my next swap about using the security linings of envelopes and I have never seen a pattern like yours. Once you start looking it is amazing how many different patterns and colours are used as security linings - start collecting now!

quick reminder - ALL CARDS should be in the mail NOW if they are to reach me by the due date.

If you need my address please send me a PM as I check those every day, whereas I don't check the thread every day.

08-17-2016, 07:19 PM
makermamma - your gorgeous cards have arrived. I love their variety.

My letter box was very glittery today - 2 envelopes for my shiny PAT and 4 for this swap. Cards received from: catb, cinlan, crafty3790 and Rainey day.

I know that 1 more envelope is in the mail to me but ALL cards should be on their way. I don't like giving neutral iTraders but it is not fair to those whose cards were mailed on time.
If you need to withdraw I will be sorry to see you go but that is fine, just tell me.

2 sparkly envelopes arrived for this swap today from: Barkesm and nancyjb.

I have sent PMs to Meborn and SueStultz (the only people whose cards I do not have) but neither of them have been on the site since the end of July so I am not going to hold my breath.
If they have not replied by Monday I will swap the cards and mail them on Tuesday. You will LOVE your returns!!
I have to keep telling myself: I CAN'T keep them all. . .I CAN'T keep them all. . . I CAN'T keep them all. . .

Meborn - has PM'd me that she has no cards so now we just wait for Sue Stultz

I am very sorry for the delay in mailing your returns but I have been sick as a dog for the last week and unable to leave the house.
You should be very pleased with your returns which were mailed on Friday, Sept 2, by my husband.

More returns have found their way home! Don't forget to leave iTrader for me and rep points for those people whose cards you have received.

I find the easiest way is: within the swap thread, go to the very top of any page and click on 'Search this thread', then choose 'Advanced search' (or you will only be given posts where you mentioned the person). Enter the person's name and you will be given a list of all that person's posts in that thread.
