Lazy Summer Sun, Due July 30, 2016

Have you been able to enjoy the Lazy Summer Sun as summer is now here? Sit back, enjoy the summer days, and break out your art supplies for this carefree themed swap. The only theme requirement is that there be a sun in the picture. How about a sunny beach, mountain brightness, misty mornings, soft setting sun, children playing, dogs snoozing ....... it's your artistic choice. [Most of my example paintings above are landscapes, but your picture does not need to be a landscape ... the theme is open as long as there is a sun.]

Rules:

Cards need to have arrived by July 30, 2016. Late cards will be returned.
Original artwork only. Hand drawn. Any paint or coloring method allowed.
NO prints, NO stickers, NO stamping, NO glitter/glitter glue/Stickles.
Use sturdy paper (or back the ATC).

I just blew off my other art "assignments" and started on these. Great topic! I think it's your examples in the first post that got me fired up.

I've added a new example card, this time expanding my "sun" theme a bit to include a girl on a swing.

A simple fun-to-paint example, Bunny Family's Sunset. The lighter toned colors don't scan very well, but you get the idea:

Sweet bunny family, and I love the clouds!! I also like your silhouette against the sun. You're having fun with and getting good use out of your new "good" black acrylic paint!!

This swap is the perfect opportunity for some of those silhouettes we were practicing in the acrylic learnathons! I have one card to go then I'll post. Maybe I'll use that silhouette technique with alcohol inks...ah, the possibilities...

Yes, KP, the acrylic learnathons have helped me expand my experience working with acrylics .... now at least I know "it is somehow possible", even if I'm not so sure how to actually accomplish it.

I've one more example. I took an ATC I had previously done, and added a sun. I'll sometimes rework a previously done card, or add additional components to one, if I decide "more would be better".

This card is done with watercolors:

Oh, BTW, there's no "b" in plumhill. Probably won't make a difference, but...
We lived on a hill that was covered with plum bushes and named our little place Plumhill Ranch. :)

I am going to mail some cards tomorrow, however given the Canada mail strike they may not make it to you in time. I will enclose enough money for returns, possibly my own.

Sorry 'bout that ... My mind had gone to "plumb bob" (my husband was a surveyor).:duck::duck:

Rapgardenpainter, your cards have arrived, they are wonderfully colorful! :)

There are now enough cards received to be assured that when the swap ends, I can swap out cards for everyone to end up with cards from 3 different players (since it only takes a minimum of 4 players in a 3-card-swap to make it "a successful go").

Hi Players - Swap deadline reminder: In case you had not taken notice, this is a fast turn-around swap. Because of the sometimes-slow mail service to rural Hawaii Island, I recommend you mail your cards at least a week in advance (so, mail by Sat. July 23). There is just a bit over two weeks until the due date of Sat. July 30.

Happy artwork! :)

Roll call: Pretty cards have arrived from Kathleenlovesflorida and Londonont1.

For players who have not sent in their cards yet, the recommended mailing date is at least one week in advance, which puts it by this Saturday July 23. (Internationals, it's likely too late to mail already).

Gee, kinda quiet over here. I hope some folks are still sending in cards! The more the merrier! :goofy::laugh:

I'm not aware of any other cards on the way, but since we already have more than enough players to allow everyone to get 3 cards from 3 different players, all is well. :)

Yup, should be some great returns! :D

Hi all, returns have been mailed. It was a wonky process at the post office. Their computer zonked out half way through, so some of the weighed-postage had to be removed from the envelope so that a different computer could redo the postage. Thus, some of you will be getting envelopes that have a layer of tape added (to reinforce the messed up envelopes). Everything is secured, but you might wonder why all the tape.

Another thing I need to mention is that one set of cards was done on a non-flexible material. The artwork is charming, so I wanted to include the cards in the mix. But I realize that the rules state to use "paper", and also that these cards are thicker than usual. So, they might not fit into the type of holder or storage method you use. If you find that you've received a card that isn't what you expected, please just let me know in a PRIVATE MESSAGE (ie PM), and I will gladly send you a replacement card of my artwork. :)

I hope you enjoy your returns, especially because the different approaches to a Lazy Summer Sun were great, and some of the materials are interesting to see in person.

Looking forward to them with great anticipation! The non-flexible material cards sound very interesting! :)

When your returns arrive, please leave an ITrader for me (the host), and a REP (ie "You Rock") for each card that you receive.
