I am from Canada and fandanie is from USA. We would like to come to Scotland to meet up with you. Let’s initiate something here. These are the interested people so far. Follow the thread and share your input.
Where would you like to visit? What about a tour? Hop on Hop off bus? Rail pass? Sharing a larger space in what locations are preferable? Get out your maps?
Any thoughts on April before prices skyrocket for the summer?
More input please.

Showing interest so far are:

1. Viking Lady- Off the grid, Canada
2. Londonont1 - Ontario, Canada. would like to visit standing stones, and Loch Lomond.
3. Fandanie - Maryland, USA
4. Cicicreates - Arizona, USA
5. Ann Stebbing - Limoge,France. would like to visit Dumfriesshire
6. Art Junkie - New Mexico, USA
7. Jensaz - Arizona, USA. Would like to stay Perth area.

I love Scotland and you wouldn't have to twist my arm to go back there, especially for an AFA meet up. :)

are you thinking of maybe renting an airbnb that sleeps, say 6 to 10 people?

Depending upon how many people are interested and what we can all agree on, I think a large place is the way to go.

Ooh! I might be interested, depending on when it is. My daughter and family live in Scotland, Dumfriesshire. It would be great to actually meet some AFA members. I am in France.

Wow, I don't hear about Dumfriesshire very often! That is where my Ewart (maiden name) ancestry is from!

Love to go to Scotland, can anyone spot me the airfare?

Just sent off a quick private message to anyone who listed Scotland as their home. Let us hope we can get some interest there. Since we are all from different countries start thinking of what city you would prefer to land in and stay in. Perhaps travel as a group to places that interest us? We will definitely have a well laid out itinerary before then. Save your Christmas money for the best fish and chips in the world. I have successfully travelled using the 54321 rule for packing everything in one carry on for less trouble.

Any suggestions for what time of year time or particular places you want to see.
I want to see roslyn castle , standing stones, pub for fish and chips and would like us all to stay together for a short time in the same place. Love to hear from some of you.

191466No preferences of places etc? I have included a Brit rail map for Scotland (I hope).
Now including a guided tour if we have close to 12 people.

I am interested, depending on the time of year, etc.
Have been many times. You can rent self-catering houses. My siblings and I took our spouses last year so we had 8 folks in one house. There are places that have multiple cottages you can rent out if there are quite a few people. I like to stay central - Perthshire or similar but depending on what folks want to do, you can always find places.

Glad to have your interest. Perthshire area is a great location. People are not providing too much input. What about April before the prices skyrocket for the summer?

190866Some info on Edinburgh. Tickets are most often cheaper to buy ahead of time than last minute in Scotland.

OOO April may be a bit tricky for me... I am having knee surgery in late Feb or March... I will keep an eye on this post tho, to be sure, and if everyone else goes in April I will be your cheerleader!

September is another option for when the prices drop. Any one prefer one over the other.

Do we want to wait till 2019, since anticipation is part of the pleasure. Love to hear your input. Tours are filling up fast, if we wanted to include one. My daughter, the travel agent is willing to research and hire our tour guide, arrange places to stay, and let individuals know if their flights would be less expensive booked in their own currency...who knew.

My flight price for May would be just over$700. I would fly into London first.

There doesn’t appear to be any discussion to follow in this thread. Any options or opinions would be welcome. If people have lost interest then I will close this thread on March 1.

I'm sorry I have been so silent and not given any input. I know that is discouraging. Right now it seems like an impossible dream, financially. More time might be a better option for me, like your earlier suggestion of 2019.

I have no problem with trying in 2019.

I can go any time, I don't need an excuse, so don't worry about me.
