Swap due date: June 29, 2018

Number of cards: 3 for 3

Number of participants: 25 maximum

What is the Pointillism? Swap: Due June 29, 2018

Pointillism is a cool technique in which small distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. It grew out of Impressionism. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac originally developed the technique and were later followed by artists such as: Pissarro and Luce.

Here are some inspired links:

https://www.widewalls.ch/pointillism-dotted-art/

https://mymodernmet.com/pointillism-art-georges-seurat/

Make three different Pointillism inspired cards. The style and medium can be the same for all three or you can mix it up as you choose.

Medium: Hand-drawn or painted, sewing, needlepoint, origami, hand-made stamp, etc. No stickers, digital or photography. Handmade art cards only. Check with me if in doubt about your medium. Make something that would be hard for you to give up.

Use your artistic skills and feel free to use your imagination and unique style. All cards must be original (i.e., no prints or copies).
Most of all---Have fun!!!

Requirements:

*All cards should be standard 3.5” X 2.5” and at least one layer of card stock.
*Cards should be flat enough to fit in plastic sleeves.
*Send cards in plastic sleeves.
*Withdraw early if you can’t do the swap, late cards may be returned if they can’t be swapped out.

Mailing and postage:

*PM me for my address when you are ready to send cards.
* Make sure your user name, location and swap name appear on the back of your ATC’s.
*Include your username on your SASE.

* International participants: I will pay postage for first 10 players. Please include a SASE.

*US participants: Include a stamped self-addressed envelope or stamps

Returns: When you receive your returns, please leave itrader for me and rep points for players.
An extra card for the host is always appreciated but not required.

Sign me up, please! It's been ages since I've done a pointillism swap. Here are two cards I made for a previous pointillism swap. Mine are a very different variation on the method. Would they be acceptable as examples for your swap, sarat? :)
I'm also attaching a couple I did for an aboriginal art swap. Would they fall under pointillism? I hope this is helping, rather than causing confusion, lol.

I came across this blog post about pointillism. She shows step-by-step directions for two little ATC's. She also uses colored pencil to fill in. Everyone seems to do it a little different, so it should be fun to see all the different versions people come up with!

Yes--I used sharpies and loved the process. I started with acrylics using both ends of my brushes but found it frustrating.

Hi Sarat, thanks for the invitation and I would love to join this swap. Actually I already made a couple off cards because at first I was afraid I would'nt have enough time. So glad you decided to join. Yes--one does appreciate Seurat and working on a huge canvas as well.
SASE means self addressed stamped envelope .. Since you are an international player I will pay your postage, so you can just send me a label with your address or an envelope with your address on it.

Hope that clarifies your question.

I wouldn't worry about perfect dots -- the original artists used a variety of strokes too!

They are somewhat simplistic. I don't want people to be disappointed. The first 2 I did with felt tips. I have a very limited range. I then moved on to acrylics and a small paintbrush.

I can't say I enjoyed it, but it made me appreciate how some works took so long. Take a look at some of these.
https://www.freelancer.com/community/articles/pointillism-30-examples-of-stunning-dot-art

Strangely, I love spending hours making patterns with dots though, but I think that's something different.

I think doing them with just a Micron pen is the most satisfying for me. I can just concentrate on building up tones with more or less dots. I might try some colored pens just for fun. I'm kind of a black and white/pen and ink person, so I enjoy the minimalist approach of just a .01 Micron. I can get more detail into a small drawing than I can with paint. That's just my personal feeling. ;) I can't imagine doing a large painting! Those guys had patience!

If I haven't already mailed mine, I might add some background, these two sets look great. I thought you could only use dots and I really didn't have the patience to fill in all the backgrounds with dots. I am amazed at the variety you can get just using dots. So excited for this swap!

I always like your art history style swaps! Just a few ideas — Impressionism? Female artists? drip painting?
