Materials required: One blank Japanese Moleskine accordion style pocket album. Approximate size is 3.5" x 5.5" (9x14). Available at Amazon.com and at MoleskineUS here (search for Japanese album, P (pocket)) http://www.moleskineus.com/japanesebook.html

AFA says you Must:
•Be an actively trading AFA member (defined as: positive itrader across 2 swaps in the last 3 months)
•Have 3+ months in good standing (no neutrals or negative iTraders)
•Have an iTrader rating of 25+
•Be willing and able to do your very best work on a strict, inflexible time line, over a long period
•Be willing and able to complete three (3) journal pages in the themes chosen by each of your nine (9) fellow participants
•Have the cash resources necessary to ship ten (10) journals around the world using First Class mail with mandatory tracking

It is also mandatory that you share your mailing address, a phone number, and a contact person to the host. This is to be sure no journals go MIA - info will only be shared with your fellow Moley members.

You're responsible for:
•Choosing and explaining your theme. Each artist will choose their own theme, color scheme/do and don’ts, and special instructions for their own moley’s. You may choose "No theme" if you want participants to "follow their muse."
•Creating a three (3) page spread in each journal you receive.
•Include at least your name, username, and date completed on the back of your spread.
•Shipping to the next artist participant. Use a well padded bubble envelope, sturdy box or a small Flat Rate Box.
•Paying for First Class mail and MANDATORY tracking/Delivery Confirmation. If you fail to ship First Class or do not put your tracking code in the thread (or do not let us know in the thread that the moley is on its way) - you will get an e-mail asking you to 'play by the rules'. If you do not comply with the rules after that I will be forced to leave neutral (or even negative if something goes wrong) iTrader rating at the end of the swap.

Artist Instructions:
1. Decorate the covers, if you choose. This may be completed either before or after the journal travels through the rotation. Some prefer to decorate before, to establish theme, palette, and mood. Some prefer to decorate after, to prevent damage to cover art. You decide!

2. Please include: (1) Your real name and address; (2) your username; (3) your assigned "travel-plan" (optional); (4) a sign-in area for artists; and (5) any special instructions (optional); in the opening pages of your book - which you should also decorate.

3. In addition to decorating your opening, informational pages, please create the first 3-page spread in your own Moleskine journal. Yet another opportunity to establish theme. NOTE: You should finish your own spread BEFORE mail out date on January 3, 2019!!!

4. Be sure to "fix" your art well, to prevent smudging. Allow plenty of time for drying before shipping. Wax paper between pages is a great idea. Be carefull NOT to stain the pages the next artist needs to work on. This will seriously limit their creativity since they will have to 'work around' the smudges you left.

5. Please communicate regularly via email, PM, or preferably, in this thread, whenever you have (1) received or (2) shipped a book. Include tracking numbers. We're all investing a huge amount of time, talent, and care in this project, and we want to see everyone's Moleskine journal home safely.

6. In the past there have been issues with journals piling up with one player who is unable to keep up due to unforeseen circumstances. Please communicate to the group if you find yourself falling behind. There are several ways to work around that but we can't help if we don't know what's going on. Communication is essential!

7. Please be sure to mail these journals at the post office personally. There have been incidences in other groups of journals being placed in a player's personal roadside box for mailing and having it stolen.

8. Do remember that NO TIP INS are allowed and do not add bulky stuff to the moley to make sure that no damage occurs during travel.

9. Most important: Be creative, do your very best work, stretch yourself, and have a blast! Oh, and try to show your art in the thread - we all love to share in the fun!

05) Zandradee- Theme: Imaginary Animals. They can be from your own imagination or from mythology, cryptozoology, fantasy or anything else (except reality!).
Do's: Open media, any style or colour scheme. Three one-pagers or a three-page spread.
Don'ts: Please no repeats

06) Bluesky - Theme: Zetti Style Fairies. Teesha Moore inspired.
Do's: Bright, colorful, happy, have some fun. Positive words, phrases etc. Light mixed media - prefer one scene over three pages

07) Tandy - Theme:Anything German and/or Dutch (e.g. celebrations, food, architecture, people, culture, customs,historic landmarks, etc.)
Do's: hand drawn/ hand painted (very light mixed media okay). Please make one scene across the three pages.
Don’t s: No repeats.

08) Redplantlady- Theme: Anglo-Saxon to medieval, so illuminated manuscripts, (like decorated initials, the kind of artwork in old Books of Hours, fancy borders with leaves, flowers, insects etc etc); treasure (see Sutton Hoo for example), eg decorated gold jewellery, buckles , swords, helmets etc etc.); Anglo-Saxon costume - people swanning around in robes etc.
Do's: hand-drawn hand-painted only
Don'ts: Please no repeats of the same thing someone else did

09) Nicky - Theme: Anything Japanese (e.g. geisha, samurai, ninja, martial arts (karate - kendo - aikido ect), Kabuki theatre, sushi)
Do's: Prefer handdrawn/handpainted art - prefer one scene over three pages but when doing martial arts, one fighter per page will be fine too.
Don'ts: please no collage (except for the Japanese Origami art)

10) DeniseMDupree - Theme: Through the keyhole. I’d like you to create 3 keyholes (one per page) that show something through them. You can choose to show whatever you want. Landscapes, unicorns, gore, nudity, pink elephants on parade, the choice is up to you.
Do's: Hand-drawn / Hand-painted is preferred. For the sake of uniformity, please try to stay relatively close to the shape and size that I use on my pages. You’re welcome to make the “door” parts of your pages look however you want, but the keyhole should be the focus.

1. We will be following this mailing rotation, so that the expense of mailing is spread out and no one person has to incur it all, and yes it makes it more confusing. You will get a moley from a different player each month, so your art is never following the same artist order in any of the books. To avoid doubt where to mail next, I will post to this second thread, the moley shipping order a week before we have to ship out.

I have a theme picked out. I've just been trying to figure out how to word it so that it is clear. In truth, I don’t think it’s very complicated, but writing the description seems to be complicated for me lol. It also seems a lot longer than everyone else’s. What do you think? Here it is:

Sorry I've been so quiet. My son came home for Thanksgiving, very sick. He was unable to return home and we are nursing him back to health. It's going to be a long battle, I'm afraid.

So, as to theme, I've been toying with a few different one's but haven't completely landed on one yet. If I can't settle on one in the next few days, I'll just have everyone do there own theme in my book, as I love all the themes which have been picked.

But I think I need another starter page? A Flight plan for where the book is to go in turn? - I missed this out in my last one :( Is that correct?And do you have a double spread sign in page first, then the flight plan or the other way round? And is the flight plan a single page?

It is up to you Denise dear, you can include a travel plan but if you do not want to, you can also add only sign in pages (like I did). My real name/address and nickname are on the last page of the moley (on a sticker...with my full address so the moley can be returned to my when it gets lost). If you do want to include a travel plan - inside the pocket might also be a good option but there is a risk of the plan getting lost.

Well, I've completed my pages and the journal is ready for mailing. I got a bit confused with what to include but I think I got there in the end with the aid of washi tape! I hope the next person won't mind too much that I've gone over the edge of the page a little. It was either that or buy a whole new journal and there wasn't really a chance to do that before the mailing date.

I did a theme description on the inside cover and contact info on the facing page, the sign-ins and travel plans, then my spread. Some of the beginning pages stuck together, so I started my spread later than I meant to, so I did the description/contact to fill what I skipped, instead of at the back as I had planned. I think this means my last person - Denise, I believe - may need to tape in a page to finish. I'm so sorry if that's the case. But like dithespy said, by then it was too late to source another journal!

All my 'admin' pages are pretty basic, so I didn't scan them, but here is my cover and my spread.

I have been debating whether to do my 3 page spread when my moley comes home rather than at the beginning and I've decided that's what I will do. The reason is because I do not want to take one of my themes that perhaps someone else wanted to do. Since there are a limited number of choices, and perhaps not everyone is familiar with all of them, I will let everyone else choose first and I will take what is left.
My Title page, travel page and sign-in page (In the back pocket) are done and my book is about ready to mail out. Getting excited!

I just realized that for Feb, March, and April I will have to have my Mom ship it for me, the post office is open from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday and I have student teaching an hour away with no traffic. I apologize in advance if she mails a bit late on me! I didn’t find out where I would be placed until a few weeks ago.

Also, to our host, my address may be changing this summer, but my parents will still be at this address for a short time afterwards so there shouldn’t be too big a problem. I will let you know when I know more.

In the last week of this month I will post the new mailing schedule in the 2nd thread like I did this month, to make it easier for all to know who we have to mail the moley to. Read the instructions on the 2nd thread again or PM me if something is not clear :)

We do not mail to the same player all the time to prevent one player mailing overseas all the time and others don't ... this schedule also makes sure that the order of artists in every moley is unique.

I dislocated my shoulder yesterday and now have my arm in a sling. The arm I use for art. I go to the doctor tomorrow to find out how long I will have to wear it.I'm hoping i'll be out off it in time to finish this moley, but if not, I'll have to mail a tip in at a later time. I'm sorry.

Oh such bad luck, I am so sorry to hear this. Take care with it! My granddaughter is just on crutches post op and this kind of thing makes you feel so vulnerable :(

Thank you both. Yes, it does feel a bit vulnerable having my arm strapped to my chest. I'm grateful it's a temporary situation as I know that lots of people live with missing limbs all their lives.

So I just got back from the doctor and it looks like I'll be in the sling for 3 weeks. In that time I'll have an MRI and see an orthopedist about whether surgery is my best option. Looks like this could turn into a long journey but for now, let's say I'm not going to be able to work in the moleys for 3 weeks. I'll let you know more as soon as I know.

Sorry to hear that Kentucky but the moley is the least of your worries... get well first and we will sort it out later. Just mail out the moley on the usual date and you can send a tip in whenever it suits you afterwards. Maybe put a small not in the moley to leave your three pages empty so your tip in can go at the right spot?

Hi again, everyone. Things have been crazy in my area of Michigan with the -50 windchill, the governor asking us to turn our thermostats down to 65, and the mail not running. Our internet and power have been a little in and out these last few days as well. This is the first time my connection seems to be doing okay. Anyway, I have the moley completed. I will try to post pictures later, but my mail goal is just to get to the post office before they close.

Had someone in an earlier moley swap who mailed later every month so in the end the receiving artists were pressed from time. Just trying to avoid that by keeping a strict mail date routine :)

redplantlady - I hope all is well with your son. It's funny that even a few degrees makes a difference. Once they gave us the go ahead to turn the thermostats back up, things started going a lot better. My asthma has been up and down though. I'm down to just two pairs of socks instead of 3 :laugh:

Had bad news at the doctors. I'm going to have to have my shoulder replaced and until I do I need to keep my arm immobilized. However, he did say I could take my hand out of the sling as long as I keep the shoulder immobilized, so I will see if I can do anything worth putting in a moley with just the use of my hand.
It may not be my usual art, but I'll do the best I can. If it's all together impossible, I'll let you all know.

My shoulder surgery is on the 22nd of this month. I'll be in a sling for 6 weeks and Physical Therapy after. The doctor did say I would be able to do limited writing and typing after the first few weeks so I'm hopefull it won't interfere too much with the moley rotation, but if so I may need to owe another tip in or two.
I'll update as I know more.
