Due date: Dec. 8
NO WITHDRAWALS
Number of cards: 5/5
Number of Players: 23. WE ARE NOW FULL!!!
Media: Collage, Mixed Media

Please do join us, but be prepared to complete this challenge before signing up, as it is a “NO WITHDRAWAL” swap. When you sign up, I will mail you an envelope of “trash” items (identical to all players) and you need to complete the swap without knowing what is in the envelope beforehand. No cards or communication may result in neutral iTrader.

GUIDELINES:

- Please PM me with your mailing address so I can send out your trash items. I have 23 envelopes all ready!
- This Swap is 5 for 5 cards. Host cards are always appreciated but never necessary.
- For this swap, please follow the standard rule of 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” rectangular cards, each in its own protective sleeve, and sturdy (not flimsy).
- You must use AT LEAST TWO trash items per card. As before, “use” can mean more than simply adhering the item. You can alter any item however you like, by cutting or ripping it, stamping it, coloring it, drawing on it,or turning it backwards, just use it in some way. Try to keep embellishments as flat as possible.
- Please LIST ON THE BACK of each card which trash items you used. Also include your real name, username, and swap name (T2T9).

MAILING:

- USA Players, please provide a legible address label. Please include 2 Forever stamps and one “extra ounce” (21 cents) stamp. This covers my initial mailing to you, and your returns mailing later.
- International Players, please provide a legible address label. Please include $2 U.S. OR 2 Global Forever stamps, covering my initial mailing to you, and your returns mailing later. I will take care of any necessary addition.
- Please spread and lightly tape cards inside the envelope, as flat and even as possible.
- Lastly, enjoy the challenge, and post pictures if you can. When returns are received, please leave iTrader for your hostess and rep points for your return partners.

You mean the Lady of India? I hand painted her separately and cut and glued her on. Then I painted the dryer sheet and cut it to fit around her, and glued it down too

JazzEars, what wonderful cards! I love the soft filmy effect from the dryer sheet. I recognize a lot of the other elements too. You just used some single little quotes from the book page, and they’re all brought together by the butterfly theme. Great inspiration, thanks for letting us see!

Here are 4 of my cards. I have another but have to wait for it to dry before I can post it, and I have 1 more to go ...

#1 Venom - crossword, strip of Hershey's wrapper and words from Romance Novel page
#2 Sparkle - musical fabric, hearts cut from notepad
#3 Intention - paper doily painted gold, "burlap" paper, Hershey's wrapper around the Buddha's head
#4 Attitude - Head cut from Quaker Man logo, brick print fabric

My last 2 cards. I will try to get them in the mail tomorrow or Monday. Warning though: Canada Post union workers (which is all of them) have said they will start rotating strikes starting Monday, so our mail will still move, but even more slowly...

"Fan" - piece of red cupcake wrapper, Hershey's candy wrapper, purple organza ribbon

"Little Things" - envelope liner, floral napkin

CastleQueen5
10-21-2018, 10:29 AM
I am a big fan of the FAN card.

I do not gravitate towards Japanese nor Chinese cards in general. But I have to say I am very impressed with Nanvan's fan card. It has to be the creative fan that drew me in. I do however have section of what I call Empowered women. So positive or quirky female cards. I also have a section for Positive male role models.

My first three cards.

Rooster uses the paper towel as a background (sprayed with some spray ink), the purple organiza ribbon, the brick wall and the text is from the romance novel page (gotta say, most boring text page ever, especially for a romance novel, lol. The whole thing was about someone stealing a pie. Or not.). I added the rooster.

Alice talks to the caterpillar uses the envelope liner, blue tissue paper and the napkin as a background, with the words taken from the boring text page. I added the Alice image and the green paper.

Mary Tudor (sister of Henry VIII) uses the rest of the text and the music fabric as background, with the gold halo cut from the chocolate wrapper, and the paper doily. I coloured the doily with felt tip and then treasure gold, but when I sealed it, it lost some of the effect of the treasure gold. I added the image of Mary Tudor.

200358200359200360

And my last three...

Romance uses the envelope liner as a background, with the dryer sheet over it, plus part of the napkin. The cupcake paper makes the large flower, with the centre from the chocolate bar wrapper. The words on this card are from the list that CiCi sent telling us what the individual items are. I added the washi tape and two heart stickers.

Butterfly uses the Quaker oats man's head. The words are on a crossword puzzle background and three of them are from the things Cici sent: "fly" is cut from the chocolate wrapper, "sweet" is from the sugar packet and "one" is from the list of items sent. I added the background, the wings and the word "away" from my stash.

Players uses the hessian paper, tissue paper, dryer sheet and rickrack as the stage on which the players are standing; the words use the crossword puzzle as a background. I added the background flowers and the Shakespearean actors.

I think the only thing I didn't use at all was the little peace sign hearts from the notepad, but it's possible I've missed something off the list.

These will go in the post in the next few days. Fun!

Also really love the Romance card, those colors are beautiful! “Players” might be my favorite, I love them all taking a bow for the audience. I’m sorry about the boring text page (LOL). I’m sure you’ve guessed, I was purposely trying to be careful there. Next time i’ll Be sure to include words about his magical fingers and her quivering thighs.

It could have been a completely different kind of card if you had included that sort of phrase, lol.

Doesn't matter - that's the challenge, right? I just kept turning it over trying to find better phrases and just failing miserably!

Preference duly noted, Nan! Kate and Nan, are you sure that’s Mary Tudor? In about three books I have, this is supposed to be Katharine of Aragon, Henry’s first wife. But I do know there have been cases of mistaken identity (later reported to be someone else) in a few portraits from this era. Just made me wonder.

CiCiCreates
10-21-2018, 03:52 PM
OK, I just perused some fascinating information via the internet. The identification of the portrait as Mary Tudor is more recent than as that of Katherine. Several scholarly reasons are noted, and it was very interesting. I do accept that, but I'm sorry that "bloody Mary" was so pretty. Now I have to go look at other portraits of Mary Tudor!

great cards being posted. most of them you have to really scrutinize to find the trash because the trash is used so creatively.

katelnorth
10-21-2018, 05:41 PM
She's not Bloody Mary - she's Henry VIII's sister - daughter of Henry VII. She was never queen of England. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Tudor,_Queen_of_France) It's confusing because they're both referred to as Mary Tudor. Pretty sure the identification is good as the portrait was taken from the RA (Royal Academy (of Art)) magazine. It's not like I know off the top of my head what she looks like, lol!

Well, apparently, she looked like that. And quite honestly, looks a lot like a lot of the other women from that time period - I don't think paintings were quite as realistic then as they are now (the ones which are meant to be realistic, that is).

Wykyd, I ALWAYS feel like that too - in every T2T swap I've ever been in - like mine are way too simple. I like with CiciCreates said - everyone has their own style, their own way of seeing things. In the end, it's all good!

katelnorth
10-23-2018, 03:22 AM
Me too - or maybe not too simple, but sometimes too literal - people use the items in such original ways, whereas I tend to just use them as what they are. Like the person here who did a Magritte painting with the Quaker hat (my Quaker guy was tiny, so it wouldn't have worked, but still...)

AmySi

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: I live with my extended family in a big rental that the owner now wants to sell. We have to be out by Nov. 30. We found a new place in Surprise (yes, that’s a city name) and will be moving in on Nov. 15. At that time, requests for my address will get the new one. Before that, my current one. Anything sent or arriving during transition will be forwarded to the new place. Don’t worry (as my son keeps telling me!)

CiCiCreates
11-04-2018, 04:24 PM
Not quite as big, but there was lots of wasted space in this one. Also, the present one (we’ve lived in it for two years) has high ceilings and is painted a medium taupe color. I’ve always liked taupe, but on every single wall it looks a little dark and depressing. The new one will have better natural light and be more cheerful looking. Also, my present craft room has one open wall. My son created a mobile wall for me, kind of like three big sliding doors, and I appreciated all his handyman work in this place (he’s done a lot!), but my new craft room has 4 real walls with a door I can close! Not a lot more space, but a pretty good closet that I should be able to organize for supply space. Just trying to look at all the positives and keep the stress at bay....

Love Alice and Mary Tudor! Can't believe I didn't see these earlier!

Nine? Ten? I can’t believe I’m actually doing this now...I think I’m a little loopy. Took so many boxes over to the new house, waited for a new chest of drawers to be delivered, and we have professional movers move the furniture tomorrow. The boys had all their gaming stations unplugged ready to go and we thought they were going to be bored and Whiney ....... .So they just finished several rounds of Kings in the Corner with Grandma and Grandpa. We are all so tired and stressed it kind of relaxed us. No such shenanigans for Mom and Dad - they’re already in bed! Surely I won’t feel so in Limbo in a week or so. Right?...Right??

nanvan
11-16-2018, 03:00 AM
CiciCreates, sounds like things are under control, even if stressful. What is "Kings in the Corner"? I've never heard of it. At least you have pros moving the furniture. I've never had that; I've never had a professional mover in fact. I hate moving! Moved twice in the last 2 years (last year at this same time of year) and even though I'm not a fan of my current apartment, I don't have the strength to move again so soon, so will stick it out for at least another year... I'm sure once you get to your new place, unpack and start using your new craft room, you won't feel in limbo anymore. It'll all work out!

Marie
11-16-2018, 10:05 AM
Kings in the corners is a card game, yes? Grandparents are surely a blessing sometimes.
You’ll get settled and sorted over time. It’s deciding where everything GOES... followed by remembering where everything WENT. Soon it will all be body memory. Rough time to be dealing with ending a swap though... I hope you still get to enjoy the process. ((Hugs))

Java, of course I am sucker for any cat atc card, or any cat in general. Did you know I am mildly allergic to cats? I did, but that doesnt stop me for loving and caring for the stray cats that adopt me.

Ok and I wanted to say. I really love the beautiful simplicity of the moth card. Sometimes things with straight clean edged speak to me.

Hey add a flower to the BIG dreams. See if you like it even more. It just seems like those two needs flowers along with their beautiful dreams. The dyer sheet background and the vintage photos seem wedding like, I guess it could be.

Lovely cards, Pouringdiva- I always love rhinestones! I can see all the various “trash” you used.

Here’s a little update from your frazzled hostess: We have been in the new house for about 5 days now. This is a house with Grandpa and Grandma (us) living in it, along with Mom and Dad, and 4 teenage boys. Everyone had to do a little downsizing from the last place. Den and I have three rooms, our sitting room (sofas, TV, bookcases) a very small bedroom and bathroom, and my craft room which is upstairs. It’s easier and kind of fun to unpack boxes and put things away in a new place, unless you feel you don’t have enough space to put things. That’s my main complaint with bedroom and bathroom, but I think I will really like the craft room! I put all the dolls in their cabinets (ten-year collection and original creations), quilts in the armoire, fabric bolts on two shelves, and computer set up in the spacious closet. I have a sewing machine table and two art tables which still need to be outfitted with all the various odds and ends. I hope to have things in working order in a few days. I am so thankful that my son is such a great handyman who really has an eye for reconfiguring things to make the most out of a small space (our bathroom)! I jumped the gun a little in giving out my new address a couple of days early, so mail has been held for a few days, but we just got our new box key, so I will probably find mail from four or five of you, and will let you know right away!

Glad you are all moved in CiCi and that you will have your own craft room. Good luck on unpacking, finding a place for everything!
