Live Meet, Minneapolis/St Paul, July 12th

This is for those of us who are interested in meeting in the Minneapolis area for a live meet while I am out there visiting in July. Ceedee and others: I just figured maybe a thread was a good way to communicate rather than all the pms we were sending back and forth,OK?

So far, the plan is to meet at 10 am at IKEA out by the Mall of the Americas. I am all for NOT meeting at the Mall since that is not my kind of place, and coming from the wilds of VT (despite living for a long time in L.A. the Kingdom of Malls) I kind of find the Mall thing overwhelming!

Ceedee tells me there are these long tables at IKEA. Is there a kind of cafe there?
Should we have a plan for cards or things to make for trade? Should I bring my card albums? Should we bring supplies and have a quick make and take? Never having done this, I am wondering.....

We'll definitely want to trade ATCs!!

Not sure where the rest of you are from, I'm near the St. Cloud area. If gasoline does not get too much higher I'll make it. About a $35 fuel cost trip for me. We'll see. I would love to meet all of you. Will keep in touch on this thread.

I live in Eagan, so that's a great location for me. I'll also bring a friend or two. I'm up for a swap or a make and take. Is there any interest in getting a local group going that would meet monthly? I'll bring name tags for us.

Hey, we are getting closer, folks! My brother says that IKEA is a HUGE place and that even the cafeteria is HUGE. He suggests that we wear or carry something to identify ourselves and that we agree to find a table near the cashiers - or something like that. Red hats? Purple hats? ATC hats? an ATC wand?

I'll bring an helium balloon with a couple of atc cards hanging from it. I'll get there early and find a table. So just look for the balloon with ATCS. I'm bringing a bunch of cards to trade also.

Great idea about the balloons! I will bring cards to trade and.... should we do a "make and take" too??? My cell phone is 802-236-2131. It is not usually on but I will make sure it is that day!

I am so excited! I am having a great time here... Spent hours at the Walker Art Center Wednesday, and played artist-designed mini-golf there too. Today spent hours at the Minnesota Institute of Art. Tomorrow going to see the Frank Gehry -designed Wiseman Museum in St. Paul, then my brother is taking me to the St. Paul antiques mall (emphemera! lace! stuff!). We will be going to a dinner theatre that night and then......WOOT!WOOT! See you all at 10a.m. at IKEA!

Geez, we had FUN!!!! And I wanted to be the first to put pics up, but I borrowed the camera from my son and he neglected to give me the USB cable...darn!

That was really a BLAST! I too downloaded the pics and tweaked them here and there, but cannot find a way to go online with my laptop at my brother's house! As soon as I can I will post the pics, as well as some from last night's "Makeover"!

BTW, I went to the Center for Book Arts in Minn. that Ann recommended - after we met - and had a great time. The little book shop there has lots of good book- making and ATC materieals and tools and a HUGE selection of delightful paper!

There are also a lot of mini artist books for sale and display (good ideas), a lot of altered objects, and a good book shelf. Found one I want, so I will have to go back
before I leave. I wonder if I am going to have to mail some things back....??????

Several of you asked how my "makeover" went, so I thought I would upload a few pics of before and after. It was really fun, but I had a hard time not giggling through some of it. Here was this 20-something kid I have watched grow up, doing his professional "thing" on my face. You have to imagine this very cute, very gay young man with a strong South American accent and pouty, sensuous lips telling me to smile here, and look up there and so on. It took over 45 minutes for him to do it and I got lots of make-up advice, the most surprising of which was to use more yellow in my foundation on my yellowish skin!
So here goes, first with a silly "before" picture, then an "after", and then an "after" with a hat, which my brother thought would look great, and so it does....

1011 Washington Ave. S. First floor, MPLS, MN 55415 612.215.2520 www.mnbookarts.org for there Book art Festival on Nov 15 and 16th? It is 10-5 on Sat the 15th of Nov and Sunday from 12-4. Book and paper artists, over 40 artists. You can also see there work, and buy unique gifts. Could do a live trade of epherma, papers and extra chunky book pages.
