Hi everyone! Please note that the original due date was too far out and has been changed to AUGUST 31! Please plan accordingly!!! That is still 3 months out so it's plenty of time to make your 12 pages.

Well, I have hosted my first Chunky Book, Fresh Fish, and am gearing up for a new one! This time the theme is SIGNS OF THE ZODIAC!

Any interpretation of this theme is allowed. Be inventive, colorful, and above all CHUNKY!

Each participant will choose a different zodiac sign. As host, I get to pick first, and of course I pick my sign, Aquarius. All 12 of your pages will feature that one sign. When the books are complete, they will contain one of each zodiac sign.

Choose watercolor, collage, digital, whatever your favorite medium, and make 12 4X4 pages. They can be all the same or all different.

Be sure to add a little art with the swap name, your screen name, and contact info on the back of each page and send them to me along with a large return address label.

Do not send an envelope, as I will provide packaging for the returns. Please include $8.00 to cover binding supplies and return postage.

Embellish as you wish, but please keep anything thick and all embellishments on the right half of the page as the left half has to fit underneath the punch guide of the Rubicoil binding machine to prevent me having to punch a bunch of pages by hand. These will be spiral bound and I will make a front and back cover for each book.

I don't mind if you pick the page you want in your book. Make sure you put it in a separate baggie and a note inside the baggie with it that you want it in your own book.

I'm getting my bases ready, and wanted to check with you about how thick the pages can be. I was thinking of using cardboard as a base - the kind from a cereal box. Would this be too thick? Sometimes I double that up to make a really study page.

Cereal boxes make great chunky pages. You can even double them if you want to. I'm so glad to hear about your progress. I hope eveyone will start posting pics and progress reports!

I have mine almost done. I'm putting on the fibers and beads now and then I will be finished. Hope you like them. When i get finished, I'll scan them!

Okay, here is the beginning of my first 3 pages. I just have to add the 3D embellishments and I have something special planned for the backs of all the pages. I am planning on making a few more with the Centaur as a major figure on the front, but that Centaur was hard and I think for the rest of the pages I will draw and color one and then scan it and print it out on a tag and add it to the back or something as an embellishment. All of these have a constellation on the front that I am planning to add crystals (some real, some glass) to for sparkle.

Each page has the same background: astrological chart info glued onto cardboard which was lightly gessoed then glazed with 3 different colors. All pages show a lion, some have the same lion, others are different. Each page has a Leo characteristic on it: fierce, noble, powerful, dramatic, loyal, proud, majestic, wise, kind, creative, strong, generous. Pre-chunk. I have bought lion charms and buttons for the pages, and a special charm for the one going into my book (I'll mark it clearly!). The backs have pretty paper and I am not sure what else on them, lol! I think I will be finished with these tonight so I can mail this week! Feel free to give feedback; I don't mind a critique or 2!

Mine are now in progress -- 4 completely done and the rest partially. The color for Capricorn is brown and the metal is bronze so I went with a brown/bronze color scheme. Each page has a little Capricorn bead. I wanted to spell out "Capricorn" on each page but I would have needed a lot of the sets of the letters to do that! The words/characteristics included vary.

I've been having fun working on my pages today. I sewed on the chunky bits (ribbon and yarn) and got my fronts and backs put together.

Today I tried something new - cut some scrapbook paper to 8.5 x 11 and printed on it. Dunno why I never thought of that before.

So my pages are coming right along :)

Well, I've got the rubicoil and it has a really low guard on it that won't let much thickness through to the holes. I'm a little disappointed in it as far as chunkies go. But it's really great for making spiral notebooks of all sizes with. I've made each of the girls I work with some and also spiral bound some of my job aids that I did have in big 3 ring binders. It sure makes things easier to find at work. I may still go ahead and look into getting the bind it all next year sometime. I'd like to have a binding machine that is just a little more versatile.

(Or at least get a good start on it.) I've got an all day scrapbooking crop tomorrow at the Arlington Convention Center, so I will try to get them ready on Sunday to go out in Monday's mail. I got mine yesterday!! Should have had it a day sooner, but our mailboxes are little and our apartment keeps larger envies/packages -- they put a slip in our box, but usually on the next day :realmad:

WOW.....Gorgeous Zodiac chunky received! Everyone's pages are just awesome. I love all the embellishments, and the covers and binding are wonderful. I will definitely need to invest in a binding machine. Special thanks to our hostess HeyMaggie for hosting such a fun swap. Off to leave rep points:)
