View Full Version : CHUNKIES: The Greatest Show on Earth 4x4 - Due August 1st
grrrdjules
06-02-2008, 05:24 PM
Swap Due Date - August 1st, 2008
Signup/withdraw date - July 15th, 2008
Number of Cards - 3 for 3
Number of participants -12
Sorry folks, swap is full. I'll do a sequel in August!
"The Greatest Show on Earth" Mixed-Media Chunky Book Pages Swap
This swap is all about the circus. The ringmaster and the big top; the candy corn, cotton candy all that good stuff; the animals, sideshows and of course the hustlers at the games! Think of the old circus trains and posters, the house of mirrors and the house of horrors (for some of us that IS a mirror!). Just let your imagination run wild - have fun - just like an old-fashioned day at the circus.
You must have a positive iTrader rating of +5 to sign up & to play. Since this is my very first swap there can only be 12 players.
You'll be making 3 pages to send in . . . and you'll receive 3 pages in return.
These will be due on August 1st. All withdrawals must be made by July15th - if you decide before then that you can't complete the swap for any reason, it's totally fine but please let me know.
ALL pages must be original artwork. NO making one page and then photocopying it. Also, mixed media means that no pages can be wholly digital collage. Have some fun, challenge yourself, mix things up as much as you can!
Please make double-sided pages, so that when they are in a book, they are appealing on both sides. Include your name & artist ID on the back of each page, but feel free to also include other info [date, location, title of page, or whatever].
Use a thicker paper or light board for the pages themselves--the chipboard from cereal boxes & cake mixes is a perfect, cheap answer. The minimum thickness would be postcard-weight. Mat or illustration board would be the thickest you'd want to go.
Please do not place chunky embellishments on the left edge on the front (right edge on the back!) as this is where people choose to bind them or use them for hanging. Everyone will be binding their own returns.
Chunky pages can have fibers, wire, beads, rubber animals, shellacked popcorn, tags and/or assorted weird things dangling off of and around the edges. Feel free to use sewing machine stitching, staples, brads, eyelets and other more offbeat fasteners on your pages.
Please avoid sticky pages . . . do not use ModPodge as a final seal on your art.
Sending:
Please send you chunkies individually wrapped either in a ziploc or sandwich bag or in tissue or paper in a padded envelope and include a return address label. I will reuse this envelope for your returns.
I'm not sure if any Canadians will play but if they do, please have your package weighed and then include the proper postage in with your cards.
International and US players can send U.S. currency, or use PayPal. PayPal will require a 50-cent bump, to cover their fee.
USA: 3.00 [3.50 PayPal]
Australia or Europe: 6.00 [6.50 PayPal]
When you are ready please pm me and I'll send my address if you need it and paypal info.
So, let's Play!
Already, let's run away with the circus...

ahhhh,,, flattery always works for me (wink wink)... I seem to have a terrible chunky addiction... its so bad now that I haven't been signing up for ATC swaps.. go figure... but these are just so much FUNNER.... and yes, that is now a word. I love all those vintage circus images,,, I've been on THAT site lots lately,, but for this, I am not quite sure yet.... maybe something a bit more modern... you know, those blinking battery operated $15 toys they sell to EVERY kid in the stands?... oh the options... wooo whoooo

inka's eyes are much bigger than her stomach (and that's big, lol) so i have A LOT on my plate right now . . . idk, think i can do it by august first? i don't know how well i'd do at a circus theme, i don't have much stuff for that, nor have i seen anything in stores i could use . . . i'm on the fence. let me do some research and work on some of these other projects, and i'll be back . . .

if i don't end up with at LEAST one A4MS page this summer, based on our being in several swaps together, i'm going to have to ask for a 1:1 trade in these themes to add an extra page to my books.
oh, wait! you're in my quote swap . . . i could keep ALL of yours and no one would know. bwahahahaha!

Hey say the word, 1-1, you-me, huh, huh, huh?;)
Anyway, Juli hasn't accepted me into this swap yet. I'm feeling a bit slighted - but then again, I AM a juried site reject so who knows.:err:

I read in one of the threads that you should try your hardest and not send artwork that you have to apologize for (good advice!) but, well, I'm sending them and apologizing anyway ... for my love of bearded women. Sorry, Jules!

Cocktail today was vodka, cranberry juice, fresh lime juice and just a pinch of sugar given a good old shake with ice and served in an acrylic martini glass because real glass gets busted in my house! When I married my darling Terry, 19 - eek! - years ago his clumsiness was a family joke. They gave us plastic plates as a joke wedding gift. It's still happening.

Mmm...sounds yummy...I understand about the dishes, but I have lots of glass anyway. I have a "thing" for cool dish and glassware.... (hard to believe we can say 19 years ago about ANYTHING isn't it?? Aren't we still in our twenties?) :D

Hi all - what an amazing experience swapping out these pages. It was difficult; I hope that everyone is happy - I tried to make it as well rounded as possible so no one received 3 clowns and those who were afraid of clowns only received animals! I have a WHOLE new respect for hosts. What a load of organization and I only had 12! I'm confident that all got in the correct packages with a minimum of cat hair - my kitty was in love with a few sets, feeling the love from other houses! I originally included myself in the swap which was weird because so many of you lovely, generous, talented folks sent an extra page so I have them AND my 3 from swap. I figured I wouldn't take any swaps for me but - duh - that doesn't work with the numbers. Live and learn!
Hope they are quick - the Canadians should arrive first for a change!!

My pages are here!!!
First, I have to say that my package arrived perfectly intact without a single postmark or marking of any kind...the stamps aren't cancelled...nothing...weird. Juli, did you drive them down here or what?? Lol, would have loved to have you in for coffee! :cute:
NOW, many many thanks to PaperFairys, inkadinkadoo and MissKoolAid for their fabulous pages! Love them all!
Of course a big hug and thank you for our hostess! The Thank You ATC is completely SWEET!

Mine also arrived yesterday! That must be record time for these pages. Mine also wasn't cancelled or anything, which was very handy for saving the stamps.
These returns were just wonderful! Thanks to Jules for hosting the swap AND for giving me the poodle ATC that I so desperately love. I showed it to Flicka, but she didn't think it was all that interesting. I suspect she was just jealous because she is apricot and not pink and doesn't have an umbrella.
Thank you also to Amyfaerie, Miss Koolaid, and Paperfairys. I love all of my new pages!

Mine came this morning (well, I found my mailbox key this morning) and I got awesome pages from art4mysanity, MissKoolAid, and Stormarela (A4, IOU some rep for the page. I haven't loved enough to rep you just yet) I love them all, thanks peeps. I also got Juli's beaded lady ATC. I opened the package on the way to work this morning with my man. I showed him the ATC and he was like "Wow, that really looks like you. Get it away, it creeps me out". Well done, Jules.
PS - My envie was also in pristine condition, untouched by postal worker hands. Maybe Jules knows Santa and he drove he around for drop offs one night?

Bizarre. I asked my post lady and she said it would be faster to use 3 regular stamps on each and pop them in a mailbox than go to the post office and do all that crap!!!! So that's what I did...

Thanks all, this is too weird about the pristine stamps - do you think it's because I wrote "artwork" on the back???? Are people that nice? Even if they weren't stamped here in good old Stratford Ontario wouldn't they have been stamped at the border???? Freaky. Should I buy a lottery ticket or have sex? Oops, DH is fixed. Nevermind.
