If you think 3 heads are better than one when it comes to making ATCs this is the place for you.

We are a fun group of ATC makers who like to spread the making of ATCs around to more than one person.

Here is how to get started……………..

First you sign up in the thread and tell us what themes you do not want so I can add your name to the list in the 1st post.

Next you PM your mailing address and any dislikes to me so I can add it to the address list. I will update this list as players come and go or change their status.

If you wish to take a break from playing at any time all you need to do is post in the thread if you want to let everyone one know and send me a pm so I can make it official by changing the list. I will move you to the HOMERS ONLY section of the address list until you ask me to change it. This way you will still get any you have started that have been completed by others but you should not get any new ones. If you do get new ones, please let me know in a pm.

To keep cards from being sent to inactive players I will move you to the HOMERS ONLY section of the address list if you have been inactive on the site for a month. Once you become active again you can pm me and ask to be placed back into active status.

And here is how a Round Robin works…………

Player 1 starts it off by starting 3 cards. These cards need to be more than a preprinted background. Please put something on them. On the back please put ATCS FOR ALL RANDOM ROUND ROBIN or AFA RANDOM RR at the top (so we know where it came from as there are 2 round robin groups) along with at least your user name. Mail all 3 cards to Player 2.

Player 2 will work on the cards. Add at least your user name to the back. Mail all 3 cards to Player 3.

Player 3 will finish the cards. Add at least your user name to the back. Keep 1 card and mail the other 2 back to Player 1. It is OK to detour from this way to mail back if you feel it helps the other players! Unless you know for sure it is ok you should ask player 1 what they want you to do

Player 1 will keep 1 card and mail the other one to Player 2.

VERY IMPORTANT ~ Please remember to look at the most current list before sending cards to anyone to make sure they are still playing.

EQUALLY IMPORTANT ~ Please check what cards a player DOES NOT WANT. Do not send unwanted themes to anyone as they must pay to send them on to someone else .

If you get a set of cards and you have no idea what to do with them, just send them on to someone else.

Feel free to post eye candy whenever you want. Part of the fun of being in a Round Robin is seeing who is doing what. You can post them when you get them before you add anything, after you have added something or when you get a completed set. If you don't have a scanner or are not sure how to post them it is ok. Posting is not a requirement to join and have fun. There are no Round Robin Police sent to visit if you don't!

And you never have to say who you are sending to unless you want to.

And last but not least…………

iTraders: They are fun to give and fun to get so please remember them. Once you have a completed card you can give them to both the other players. When giving them you are the trade.

Just lurking with questions.
How do I know who to send cards to? Just anyone on the first list? What keeps one player from getting swamped with cards while others get none?
As usual, I'm nervous about trying something new. I'll watch for a while before jumping in, lol.

Well, technically, it's random, which means you can send to anyone on the first list. However, we do have some preferences, i.e. things we particularly like or dislike, so that might help decide who to send to. Also, sometimes people offer up sets they have, and others claim them (you don't have to, but we often do). And sometimes people will mention that they are short on sets to work on, so that's always a good sign to send stuff to them.

Also, there's no pressure to get to stuff ultra quickly - a lot of us, given the way our busy lives work, tend to work in batches - I might not have time for a couple of weeks, but then I'll do quite a few sets at once and send them along.

After you've been playing a while and have homer sets coming back to you or finishing sets coming to you, you might send new things on to people who you have to mail to anyway. This is especially true for me, with overseas postage - I try to make the most of my postage, so if you aren't on homers and I have a card to send you, I'll probably also send you a set of thirds and a set of seconds, if you see what I mean.

I've been here a long time so I tend to have a good idea of what sort of thing would really appeal to some of the other longer term players, so that affects my decisions about who to send what to. (And likewise, other longer term players know I like stuff with text and mermaids and black birds and things with postage stamps and Hallowe'en and stuff with lots of layers and shaped cards and etc etc etc, so I often get stuff that fits that bill. But not always.)

And of course, if you are really swamped and feel guilty about it, you can always go on homers only for a while.

But ultimately, that's all what we TEND to do, rather than what you HAVE to do. Ultimately, it's random, so that's the risk you take when you join in.

And also, I should mention, it's fun. :)

I have never felt swamped with cards, It seems Just right. I also try to mix up the starters that I send out. I try to start at the bottom of the list with Vicky when I can so she doesnt get neglected. Then next time I start in the middle of the list. And I try to mix in a few International players so they dont feel neglected.

Two more questions.
Once I make a set of starters and decide who I want to send them to I then PM xstitcher for their address, right?
And where do I find out which themes they don't want? I don't see anyone saying what they don't want.
Hopefully, that will take care of my questions.

No, once you sign up xtitcher will pm you list of the players address and likes and dislikes and stuff. Once you join she will add you to the list and we will all get a new updated list.

In general most of my starters are blank slates that could go in any them or direction. I say in general. But sometimes I do know that a certain player would like this card.

Thread 11, to think I started when we had two. I have a few sets to work on. I am in the process of trying to organize my entire house. This is an overwhelming task. I am an empty nester now and though without anyone to mess anything up this would be easy, wrong so wrong. My daughter and son says, " go through my stuff. You know what I would want." Well that comment would be a negative. None of us are Susie Homemaker to begin with. RR keep me saine. Hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Be careful getting rid of your kids' stuff. I had several items (framed pastel drawings, a embroidery samper, etc.) made by deceased relatives that I'd had since childhood, that for some far-out reason my mother got rid of---I am still not happy about it, some twenty years after finding out they are gone! Just saying.....

Checking in - and I have a question. So these just keep going... there isn't any finish up for the year and start a new list. You just start a new thread when this one reaches it's maximum number of posts, right?

I think that I need to go on homers only for a little bit. Both of my college kids will be home for a month and I loose some of my craft space - plus I don't have as much free time.

That is a unique way to look at this swap group. I never thought of the year being the reason we move on to 10. or 11.

That was also, I guess, indicate that we had a time Frame in mind. But NOPE we really just start a new thread when we have reach 1000 chatty posts.

I had 8 kids, but I do think the box is full of the younger 3 stuff. I gave the older 5 there stuff a few years ago. The older ones re 31,30,29, 28. So They have flown the nest at time ago.

I could make a hostess card for 50 people with the JUNK I saved.

I did an entire abc set of starter sets. The N is just one example. The entire sets are book pages, inked the edges and put the 3 same letters on a starter set.

The other 2 cards in the photo are an example of another starter set I am mailing off. It has embosses music paper on a book page

But you can make it your own thing. AND just to add umm confusion to your decision. There is an icon for people who are willing to work in VERY dissimilar cards. And an icon if you will work on shaped cards, like coins or houses or tags.

- Will work on any holiday any time, please remember some holidays are country specific
- Will work on shaped cards
- Will work on dissimilar cards

Here is an example of my likes/dislikes

Likes: sunflowers, cats, coffee, tea, postage stamps, APCs, butterflies, Men, Fathers, positive female cards, Loves Thanksgiving cards, not other Holidays, Winter, Fall, Religious, vintage, the odd quirky card.
No: nudes, horror, violence, scary, evil, Wiccan, Halloween, gore, anything embarrassing to kids, Most Holidays, Halloween, Christmas, Easter bunnies and Easter Eggs, pin up girls

Yes, I was thinking that the sunflowers looked more like what I would think the player 2 cards would end up like. But I'm relieved to know there's room for individual interpretation. Thanks for all of your help, CQ! You also gave me some good ideas for my likes and dislikes lists. :wubclub:

I have to agree that the one sunflower card is OVER done. I have the painted paper, and the die cut and then I added the sequins. I am hoping there is room for a border, some words and some accents on the side.

Thinking of that. When I am player 2 or 3. I think about does this need words. OR a theme, or a border or accents? If it has words already I dont add more. I often add borders, words, ink the edges, add things to say the center of a flower. (which I did already to the sunflowers), or I outline or color an object. I most often us a rubber stamped image to the card or a die cut.

So, do people expect to receive three fairly similar cards unless they specify they are willing to work on dissimilar ones?

JavaZarf
12-10-2019, 02:00 PM
Yes. Starters should be the same or at least similar. Also the second and third person on the cards will try to do the same or nearly the same element or addition on those cards.
Dissimilar sets are usually if someone makes 4 starter cards instead of three a few times. They can put those 4th cards together to create a dissimilar set.
If you look through the previous thread, you will see many stages of cards posted and you will get an idea of how this works.

Plumhill, my starters are usually just a background because I want the next player to have freedom to interpret the background as they like. I've sent book page backgrounds, painted abstract backgrounds, scrapbook paper, abstract collaged scraps backgrounds as starters.

My goodness we've been chatty recently! Must be the new thread.

Thought I'd show some more starters for whoever asked (and really, anyone new, newish or considering jumping in), so you can see the variety.

These five were all done by me - I've tried to get a variety here - the first set is made from reclaimed bits of my kids' artwork (following another theme, lol). The second, froma magazine page, with a piece of washi tape. The third is to make CastleQueen5 laugh - she sent me the three images because she didn't really like them/know how to use them. I put them on a background and sent them to a second player (not her), but the second player actually sent them back to her! The red set again, is an image on top of a bit of leftover art project from my daughter. And the final set is from a paper bag from a Mexican takeaway place. I like to keep mine pretty simple to give lots of space for interpretation. next post will show how these pieces came back to me!

Sometimes, if I have a bigger or more specific image, the direction the card takes is a little more obvious. Four starters above, the finished versions are in the next post.

None of these are exactly the same, but they are all similar. This is my favourite option, I think (though I will also gladly work on cards which are identical or totally dissimilar). But in terms of making starters I quite like ones which aren't exactly the same, but are pretty close. With all of these cards above, you could do virtually the same thing if you wanted to, or something fairly different, and it wouldn't matter.

Finished versions of the cards from the previous post.

Quite honestly, anything goes. Though the more stuff that's on a background, the harder it is to think what to add.

Sometimes, though, you just have a really great image, so it's worth using, even if it's a little larger.

One thing that concerns me is that I don't have access to a color printer so I can't come up with multiple images that are the same. I also don't buy any prefab collage elements. Wondering how I'm going to make similar cards. Still in lurking mode as I learn more. Hope I'm not getting obnoxious with all of the questions!:D

And thanks, Kate for all of the great examples!

I don't have access to a color printer either, only black and white. I've been collecting all sorts of things that I can get multiples of...including maps, book pages, advertisements, travel flyers, postage stamps, even food packaging. I have printed off a few images and shaded/colored them in. You can also use washi tape and stamps and writing.

Good ideas, Melissa! And I suppose I could always HD/HP something. Gotta think outside the box!
It sounds like everyone works pretty independently here. Once you get the address list you sort of start operating behind the scenes unless you feel like surfacing and sharing. Interesting and kind of appealing to a hermit like me, lol.

OH NO NOT THE ODD MONKEY? OR CAMEL HEADS? those still give me nightmares. hahaha:D

But in all fairness they turned out great. AND I didnt have to finish them ;I could have passed them along, but I thought I certainly deserved them. After all, I did sent them to Katelnorth.

Thanks, BluSkyHare! Good ideas! My little library doesn't have a color printer, but I think I have plenty of options in my stash. :) I actually have a nice color printer, but it got clogged (probably the cheap ink I bought) and I'm not feeling like figuring out how to get it fixed. I'm sure it would involve shipping it somewhere. Anyway, there are lots of other things I can use. :) I have three sets done, but I may wait until I wrap up the Dec. My overactive brain came up with another question. How do you guys keep track of what you've sent out? Seems like you might just have to send them out and say, "Que cera cera!" Actually, that wouldn't bother me. Just play and forget about them until they unexpectedly show up again in my mailbox. :) I'm overly anal about keeping records on swaps I'm doing, but you have a little less control here since you don't know who some of the other players are and there's no clear cut deadline for getting cards done.

We had a dicussion about this recently on thread #10. some keep track, some don't. Basically CRRRR is "Random". You may send cards out and may see them a year later, or never see them again. If your simply sending starters or "seconds" that you've worked on, just try to send them randomly, or to someone who'd like to work on them.
there is no judgement here.
If I get a card that just doesn't inspire me, I pass it on to someone who I think may like it.

Well, really, it's pretty hard to drop the ball in this swap. That's one of the reasons so many of us like it - low pressure! We aren't that worried about how long it takes someone to work on a set of cards, and worst case scenario, if it's something you really can't get inspired to work on, just send it along to someone else!

The hummingbirds were anitamac/bluskyhare/me

Anitamac, as the hummingbirds are virtually identical, and I had other stuff to send to Sharon (BSH), I've sent her hummingbird to her with that stuff, to save you some postage.

I have a pile of homers to send to people, but I am trying to send you other things to work on as well at the same time, so I'll get them all out within the next week or so, but perhaps not straight away. Envelopes going out today to CQ5 and BSH and homers to silky and lucymc.

I will happily work on APCs - I have several decks I am collecting. I don't usually tend to start them here, but that's not because I don't like them.

Shaped cards would be stuff like houses or dolls, I'd say. e.g. the below ones

The one on the left came to me as second player, as a regular ATC, but I trimmed them into the shape of a spool of thread. The house and the tiger dolls were shaped already when I got them.

And here are some buddy cards I worked on today as well.

The left set was started by heymaggie; the middle set was started by collagaintashley.

The right hand set are "accidental" buddy cards, and were started by karr3ll. Here's what happened - she was in my background swap and sent some backgrounds for the swap. She then decided she'd made some backgrounds she liked better and wanted to change the ones for the swap, which was fine. She said I could just throw out the other backgrounds (yeah, right!) but I suggested I use them as starters for RR cards instead. As it was a 5:5 swap, I had five backgrounds, so I did three of them as regular RR cards (someone will get them quite soon) and the other two, I turned into buddy cards. I really like how they came out.

I don't usually show second round cards, but in this case, it would be quite interesting, I think, so here's the other backgrounds done as RR cards to finish...

I realize this is a random group but what I am offering is well, tacky. I mean not everyone will jump at the idea.

I have these really cute puffy 3 d like turtle stickers that were given to me, most likely in a swap on Swap-bot about reptiles. I am in a group about scales and tails. all things reptile and amphibians too.

Ok so these were on my desk. I made 3 starter sets, and I so far have photos of one.

I've just sent sets to CQ (who doesn't want holiday cards anyway), BSH, lindagiese and heymaggie, so preference would go to someone I haven't mailed to recently, though if no one else wants it and one of those ladies does, I'll mail it out in a week or two to one of them!

ArtsyOne,

If you go to your settings page, and click on Attachments (under Miscellaneous...very bottom item), you can delete any of your attachments you don't want anymore. I delete all of my pictures from closing swaps so they don't eat up my file space. I've been locked out of adding attachments before because I didn't realize I could/should do this! :)

I was third on this one. Started by ArtsyOne and seconded by Silky1150.

212356

I was also third on this one. Started by BluSkyHare and seconded by Pancake Machine. PM said he was going for spooky with the old house, so I created a spectre to haunt the house.

212357

A long time ago I saw art in a magazine where the glassine envelope was used to create a ghostly person.
After I forged ahead with my version of this, I realized after the fact that she had used paint and not paper for the body and the glassine was loose, not glued down. But then I had already done it my way and stuck with it. The grey gauze is supposed to be a mysterious cloud.

Three more finished sets I worked on this weekend. I have no more RRs waiting for me to work on them - all those I had have been either added to or completed, and I've packaged up all the homers I have waiting for both those on homers only and those accepting new work. Lots of envelopes going out as soon as I get to the post office, some time this week. Can't remember who the homers only are, but other envelopes are going out to anitamac, artsyone, sweetgypsy, karr3ll and mrubyjean.

Here's a sort of odd set - so rather than foist it on the unsuspecting, I'm posting here to see who would like it.

I think it's cool; not odd at all.

Sent another update and a separate letter because I don'thave enough characters to write much with the list.

KiraCat did not get it.

I finished 6 more sets. The 3 I had left over and 3 new ones. So in the mailbox are envies to Suzi, Silky and Allegrae. And...my table is cleared. Can't wait to see what shows up next...I'll work on anything...you know that right? Happy Saturday...or whatever day you happen to read this...love and hugs your way.
