View Full Version : Postage stamp ATCs - FLAGS Due: July 20

Donnacr
05-11-2020, 11:16 AM
Due date: July 20
postage date for non-Australians: June 15 (allowing for the slowness of COVID-affected International mail)
I live in Australia - mail will NOT reach me quickly! With the Corona virus cancelling many international flights there are many fewer deliveries into and out of Australia. Currently Australia Post is predicting 25-30 BUSINESS days delay.
cards: 3:3 or 6:6
participants: unlimited
media: any and all but MUST include at least 1 postage stamp with a FLAG on it

ALL RETURNS MAILED AUGUST 4

An extra challenge to any who are interested - make your flag(s) into something else

I have LOTS of postage stamps and love using them on my cards so I have decided to run a monthly series of swaps using different topics on the stamps. This is the 7th in the series.
short of stamps? Just ask - I have lots on most topics and I am very happy to send them to you. If you need some a little quicker just PM CastleQueen5 - she is in the US and has lots of postage stamps to share as well.

future topics so you can plan ahead:
August - Marine (fish, other sealife and plants) Sept - Land animals (NOT cats, dogs or butterflies) Oct - Flowers/trees Nov - Household items/ food (chairs, lamps, coffee pots, clocks, jugs, etc) Dec - Christmas Jan '21 - Birds (land or sea eg penguins, owls, swans, etc) Feb - Music (musicians, dancers, singers, etc) Mar - Art (artists, pictures of Art - Classical, native, retro, etc) April - Sport (playing sport, sports equipment, Olympics, etc) May - Celebrations/emotions June - Space (astronauts, planets, spaceships - real or fictional eg Star Trek, etc)

Please include a background for your stamp(s) - it can be an extension of the stamp design or abstract, or something in between. Plain white backgrounds will be returned unswapped.

Post to the thread to sign up.

PM me for my address when you are ready to mail - if you have an address in Robina, I am still there.

Due date:
Cards are to be in my hand by July 20. I will mail your returns as soon as possible but remember, it took a while to get to me so your returns will take a while to get to you. Please be on time so others don't have to wait.

Postage:
Australian players: please include a stamp equivalent to your postage
International players: unfortunately Australian international postage has gone up to $3.20 so I must ask for a well hidden US$2 or a Global Forever stamp

ALL players please include a LARGE address label (AT LEAST 2" x2"), I will supply envelopes. Please do NOT send those 3-in-a-row sleeves - they do not fit in my envelopes.

1. Do your best work - I plan to swap effort-for-effort as much as I can.

2. Clearly write your USERNAME and the SWAP NAME on the back of all your cards (so you can get fun rep points) and on the back of your mailing envelope. I am running a few swaps and do not want to put you with the wrong returns.

3. Please mail early to allow time to reach Australia.

4. An extra card for the swap Host is greatly appreciated but is not required.

5. Embellishments are fine. The completed card needs to fit into a standard pocket and the embellishments need to be securely fastened so they don't fall off during shipping. If it is too bulky it is more than likely that the card will not reach me - either because the envelope has been torn and the card lost, or it is too heavy.

6. Have fun!

7. I will give iTrader feedback when I receive your cards and will also update this post showing that your cards have been received. In return I encourage you to give iTrader Host feedback to me when you receive your swap returns, and Rep points to the artists whose cards you receive. After all, knowing where your cards went is half the fun I think.

Here are my flag ATCs. I wanted to use these dogs for the dog swap but only had 2. So I saved them for now.

I will admit that once I got started and cut stamps up Iím not exactly sure that the 2 cards with stripes and squares each have a complete flag stamp. The one with triangles does. Donna- if thatís an issue please let me know and Iíll make more.

Great cards, Seascape! My favorite is the one with the little pink boat!
The one with the little cabin by the sea reminds me of an acquaintance of mine who lives in a little shed in the woods with a flag on the side, lol.

Welcome to all the new comers since my last visit - plumhill2001, TurquoisePineapple, Seascape131 and BlancoLobo (whose cards I have now received - don't forget to comment so people can give you Rep points)

Laffqueen - I blinked and missed you :( :cry:

Mail into Australia seems to be improving - most of the mail that I have received over the last week left the US mid-April or later.
The Transport returns I mailed on April 30 have started to arrive in the US so, fingers crossed, we may be starting to normalise.

I always love your work, jo.on.the.go, but I like the AZ one the most because I live there. I have never really been INTO the Paris thing. I seem to have an aversion to it. I know so many folks really like the Eiffel Tower, so I think it might be that I would hate to take a card from someone who loves Paris.

I had to go back and see the cards to see which one had the little pink boat. Yep, it is my favorite too. You did a. nice job of extending the flag into the trees to make it blend.

There are 2 buttefly cards too. I like the one with the teal or turquoise flower, I bet it is because its a complimentary color from the red of the stamps and the butterflies.

Donnacr, I think we need to talk, I mean it is almost as you are teasing me.

Hey, CastleQueen5 look what I made, cards with cats, sunflowers and coffee, which ONE do you want? ONE? you only get one CQ5, BWAHAHAHHHA! choose wisely CQ5!

The dilemma !!!

Or should I say, great tempting art Donnacr, I sure want them all.

No no, I think the chastising you for teasing is more accurate.

Plumhill2001 - try sending CastleQueen5 a PM, she has lots of stamps to share and will be a little quicker than me sending you some :D
VickiZ - mailing date has been noted, will tell you when they arrive

Betsyg - kangaroos are a total pest in rural areas but you don't see them in suburbia.
The best I can do is listening to the kookaburras laugh at dawn and dusk - aboriginal legend explains this habit as the kookaburra wakes up the sun and sends it to bed. Koalas are becoming harder and harder to find anywhere out of zoos as they have had a couple of very nasty diseases sweep through their populations and now the horrific fires of the past summer have decimated their natural habitat.

Hmm we live in the concrete desert. I also live very close to mountain preserve. (it is a mountain to us but really it is just a hill with cactus). So this area called North Mountain Nature preserve surround my neighborhood on 2 sides. Think L shaped.

So the coyotes and raccoons do come into our neighborhood in the wee hours 3 am to 5 am. But we dont have any deer to much on this. OH Javelinas so come out at night and eat the vegetation. There is a herd of them 1/3 north on a different and even smaller hill. They have chased my daughter, (which makes you wonder, what were you doing out in the middle of night child?). Javalinas do eat the cactus and other plants. and they are mean.

jo.on.the.go and Seascape131 - your gorgeous Flags are now flying in my house.

NOTE - Everyone should have mailed by now to ensure that your cards arrive on time - there are a few of you that have not told me this has happened. If Life has got in the way just tell me in the thread or by PM and I will withdraw you - you will be missed but I understand.

International mail seems to be returning to almost normal so I am still planning on restarting this series in a couple of weeks. I will simply push back all the themes by a month - hope you will all continue to make your gorgeous cards and share them with me.

Betsyg
06-26-2020, 06:35 PM

CastleQueen5

Will you swap the Christmas theme around, so it is a little more timely?

Can you be more specific on what you mean? Is it more timely to create during the season or receive the cards during the season. So maybe a specific month you are suggesting. You figure it takes 3 weeks to a month for card to go to AU and to get back. I dont have the power, I just wondered, what month do you want to create? Or what month did you want to receive?

Donnacr
06-27-2020, 07:30 PM

Nothing has changed on this correct?

future topics so you can plan ahead:
August - Marine (fish, other sealife and plants)
Sept - Land animals (NOT cats, dogs or butterflies)
Oct - Flowers/trees
Nov - Household items/ food (chairs, lamps, coffee pots, clocks, jugs, etc)
Dec - Christmas

Jan '21 - Birds (land or sea eg penguins, owls, swans, etc)
Feb - Music (musicians, dancers, singers, etc)
Mar - Art (artists, pictures of Art - Classical, native, retro, etc)
April - Sport (playing sport, sports equipment, Olympics, etc)

I think that Marine animals will go to September
then land animals -> October
Flowers/trees -> November
Christmas -> December
Household items/food -> January 2021
Birds ->Feb 2021
then continuing on with the list (just moved one month down)

Donnacr
07-04-2020, 11:06 PM
All will be revealed late next week when I upload the Marine swap. People are correct that that is the next swap, due Sept 20 followed by Land animals, due October 20 and Flowers/trees,due Nov 20.

I will probably move Household items/food to the end of the list and leave the rest as they already sit (due December to June).

Thanks for all the interest - see you next week.
