Laffqueen
05-27-2020, 11:27 AM
Swap Due Date - July 15
Number of Cards - 3 for 3
Number of participants - 12

So this is my FIRST time hosting although I've been a member for almost 12 years! As many of us are still staying home the idea of traveling this summer is just that; an idea. For this SWAP let your memories or imagination run free. Each card should clearly state the name of a place you have been or wish to go and details should reflect the location.
Players: 12 ( it's my first SWAP so I'm limited)
This is an any media SWAP

Guidelines:

1. Each card must be a standard size of 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
2. Each card must be in an individual plastic sleeve.
3. Each card should be labeled with the swap name, your username, your real name, date of creation, and your location.
4. Embellishments are fine just not too bulky. No glitter please

Mailing Guidelines:
Please enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope, use extra postage if your cards are bulky
Put your ATC name and SWAP name on the back of the envelope
International players; I will pay for the first 3 players. Just be sure to send along a large mailing label

When you are ready to mail your cards, please private message me for my address.
iTraders are given by me to all players on the same day that I swap the cards out. Please make sure to leave an iTrader in turn for your host (me!) when you receive your cards, and leave "you rocks" for your fellow players from whom you have received cards.
I LOVE and treasure host cards, but of course it is not a requirement to play in the swap!

Please post pictures of your cards as it helps with inspiration and motivation

Okay, who wants to play?

Lurking... With the international artists I don't know if they will have time to do this swap since the send out date is kind of short?

Laffqueen

Here are 3 examples. Again it can be a place you've been or a place you long to go. Have fun with this theme. Looking forward to seeing what everyone creates.

Thank You Prex and welcome. No passport needed. As soon as I figure out how to add participant names I'll start you off on the list

You can just EDIT your first post and list the players names, And then maybe change the name to color with the swap arrives.

Or I can tell you how to make links to each players post.

CastleQueen5
05-28-2020, 01:41 AM
For my post #14, I have to copy the link the post

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?37277-Virtual-Travel-ATC-SWAP-Due-July-15&p=2078059#post2078059

But I have to click on that www link above and paste that into the area.

http://http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?37277-Virtual-Travel-ATC-SWAP-Due-July-15&p=2078059#post2078059

If I dont TYPE over the words in the brackets it looks like the above

CASTLEQUEEN5 (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?37277-Virtual-Travel-ATC-SWAP-Due-July-15&p=2078059#post2078059)

But with the above I retyped my name, and I add BOLD and the color red.

CastleQueen5
05-28-2020, 01:45 AM
The only benefit of the link to a players posts is so that players can leave you rocks, for each other when they get their returns. It is a lot more work for you, and might be overwhelming.

So you can just edit your post, and number 1-12, and ta daH! done.

CastleQueen5
05-28-2020, 09:40 PM
I am glad I could help, later we can show you how to do link to each players cards, if they post in the swap. But it takes some practice and some patience.

Eventually it becomes old hat, and you can do it in your sleep. Meaning less cushing and swearing while on the computer.

Laffqueen
05-28-2020, 10:22 PM
Jo.on.the.go you made the suggestion to start this SWAP and I’m so glad you did. Many thanks

Here are my cards. They are all places that I have visited.

215879 Parthenon, Acropolis, Athens, Greece

215878 Easter Island, "Traveling Man" at Ahu Tangariki. I think that this is the moai that was hit by a truck and damaged late last year or early this year.

215881 Tuscany, Italy

215880 Stonehenge, England

This is the year that I planned on going up the coast of Norway to see the northern lights. Of course, that won't happen.

Laffqueen
05-31-2020, 03:43 PM
Wonderful Jo. I’ve never been to Easter Island or Stonehenge. Would you recommend?

nanvan
05-31-2020, 04:15 PM
Beautiful cards jo.on.the.go - you are so lucky to have done so much travelling! Maybe next year you can make that trip to Norway.

CastleQueen5
05-31-2020, 05:51 PM
I really dont want to see Paris. I dont even want to collect Paris cards. I ask myself, WHY? I really think it is because I really dont enjoy the French language. They have all those letters in their words that they dont even pronouce, So when I hear it on say an audio book, I also go. WHAT?!?!?!

That is the only reason I can think of.

CastleQueen5

Ok so in 6th grade we learned about Lake Titicaca It was so titillating to say that lakes name, but the thing is the FROGS were the thing that intrigued me.

I am not sure I can do that place justice on a card. I might try.

Lake Titicaca
Titicaca is a large, deep, freshwater lake in the Andes on the border of Bolivia and Peru, often called the "highest navigable lake" in the world. By volume of water and by surface area, it is the largest lake in South America. Lake Titicaca has a surface elevation of 3,812 FT

FROGS

In the late 1960s, an expedition led by Jacques Cousteau reported Titicaca water frogs up to 60 cm (2 ft) in outstretched length and 1 kg (2.2 lb) in weight, making these some of the largest exclusively aquatic frogs in the world. The snout–to–vent length of the Titicaca water frog is up to 20 cm (8 in), and the Hind legs about twice as long.

nanvan
05-31-2020, 06:08 PM
I'm so glad I've never been to Titicaca to see those frogs. I have a phobia about large frogs!

smallgirl
05-31-2020, 06:32 PM
Omg, nanvan I am the "toadal" opposite! I read CasteQueen's post and thought- man, I'd love to see those big frogs! LOL!

Ok Smallgirl as soon as the Covid 19 and riots are over, we need to go to Peru. I bet Jo.on.the.go has been there.

Laffqueen
05-31-2020, 08:55 PM
I’ve been there CastleQueen when I went to Machu Picchu. It was spectacular

jo.on.the.go
05-31-2020, 09:07 PM
Yep, I’ve been to Peru. I saw Machu Picchu but not Lake Titicaca nor the Nazca lines. I did visit the pyramids in northern Peru, including the burial site of “The Lord of Sipan”, who was the equivalent of Egypt’s King Tut. The gold treasures were amazing...a world-class museum was built by National Geographic to display what was found in the tomb. The ancient Moche people mummified their elite and buried them with impressive grave goods.

jo.on.the.go
05-31-2020, 09:27 PM
CQ5: I can understand your feelings of Paris. Florence, Italy is my favorite city...far superior to Paris for sightseeing, food, and general ambiance. Athens is a close second, and Lhasa, Tibet, and Kathmandu, Nepal, are third and fourth in my opinion.

nanvan
05-31-2020, 10:20 PM
I, too, loved Florence - definitely one of my favourite cities that I've been too. I also loved Paris - so much to see.

Smallgirl, I want to go to Alaska.

Me too, but I don't want to cruise (does anyone, anymore?) because I would like to have a few days at each spot to do some wildlife watching. It's really expensive to go if you don't go the cruise route, though.

Ok I have been to COLORADO, and I loved it. I wanted to move there. I wanted to go to Graduate school there. Then along came my hubby. and we got married and moved to AZ, to go to graduate school at ASU, which never materialized, we became parents instead.

So I love Boulder because MORK and MINDY was also set there. DO you even remember that show?

One of the most beautiful places I have been to is the painted desert.

http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/21118/medium/1_painted_desert.jpg

AND this is my backyard, Ok I mean the Nature preserve near my house that I can hike in. It is beautiful and peaceful too. Lots of cacti, some very huge Jackrabbits, they are HUGE< like as big as a fox. I have never seen a snake out here. I have seen quail, roadrunners, and insects.
This area surrounds my neighborhood, on two sides. You can climb to the top and see my house.

Wonderful cards, CQ5 and I love that each one has a personal story. I especially love the painted desert and your backyard is amazing!

Yes even though I live in the concrete desert we have nature preserves or hiking areas scattered all over the town. Tiny things they call mountains, but nothing like a really mountain. Big rocky hills, really. But they are all called mountains. I like closest to North Mountain. Boring name. My kids school is called Moon Mountain, then there is LOOKout Mountains, and Shaw butte. We do have bigger mountain ranges that fence in Phoenix, and make it valley of the sun. South Mountains, White Tank mountains and McDowell Mountains all fence is in. Oh and Superstition Mountains far off on the east side.

nanvan
07-03-2020, 02:51 PM
That's a lot of mountains - I like some of those names - they sound mystical!

prex those are fantastic! Have you been to New Zealand or Australia?

prex

NZ last year. Only place Iíve been that requires a passport. We were there at this time- north island.

Laffqueen
07-10-2020, 11:01 AM
We were on the North Island 5 years ago. Also Australia to visit family. I loved New Zealand.

prex
07-10-2020, 11:31 AM
I would spend every summer there, if I could. Their winter weather on the north island was perfect. It was hard to come back to 90s and high humidity.
If we go back, I’d like to go to Australia too. I have to admit, my true crime addiction has me a little fearful of travel in Australia...
My cards are on their way.

I also really like the AU with the koala. (although I am more obsessed with Kangaroos in general< they hop)

CastleQueen5
07-12-2020, 06:13 PM
PREX is there a lot of crime in AU that scares you? My daughter lives in Melbourne. I think she is happy and safe. I THINK!

prex
07-13-2020, 04:31 PM
I’m not sure. There’s just a lot of horrific true crime stories from AU. The vast outback makes the stories even scarier. There’s probably not more crime than here, but I’m not an expert:unsure:

Dear Nervous Nelly, you know from our past trades that it always takes longer for me to get my returns. Although some of my mail to and fro has actually been pretty quick, relatively speaking. I will let you know the instant I get my returns. And a "surprise"?? Can't wait!

CastleQueen - It's Lombard Street in SF, supposedly the world's most crooked street. We walked it, can't imagine driving it.

I received my awesome cards: Paris Joy from bluevioletz; Mount Rushmore from CastleQueen; and the Parthenon in Greece from jo.on.the.go. They're all beautiful and thanks to LaffQueen for a really great swap. Off to leave points for everyone!

I received awesome cards today, too! Lovely cards from Spottedcrow (Paris), jo.on.the.go (Traveling Man) and smallgirl (Kyoto, Japan). Big thanks to 3 great artists and our gracious, first-time hostess who did a fab job! Off to leave rep points and I trader now.
