Swap Due Date August 7th
Sign up by:July 24th
Withdrawal deadline: none, but must communicate!
Number of Cards ~ 3 for 3, or 6 for 6
Number of Participants – 12*
HD/HP or mixed media incorporating Card Catalogs

Full library card swap.

This is a supplemental swap to the 5th round ATC sized Card Catalog swap (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?37244-Library-Card-Catalog-Swap-Round-5!!-Due-July-31st).

I'm running this as a smaller, side swap for anyone that wants to play with the full card. I'm going to limit this swap to 12 players, although if something comes up with a player from the larger swap I will make exceptions and add them in. (In the past, I've had someone use the entire card and they then had to cut the cards down. I'm curious to see what the larger art looks like.)

These cards are pretty sturdy, and I have a bunch of them. This swap is a chance to make mixed media ATCs with old card catalogs. You can collage, use the card as a base to paint, draw, etc.

Swap Requirements:
1. It must be the entire card.
2. Make sure cards are well-glued and sealed if adding any elements.
3. Use only light embellishments.

*You should try to base your art off the cards you get. However, while this is preferred, it is not required.
*An extra card for the host is welcome, but completely optional.

By the entire card I simply mean not to cut it down. You can leave blank areas as it makes sense.

How to get these lovely card catalogs? If you sign up to play, I'll need you to PM me your address. I'll send you 6 cards, you choose the 3 you want to do, or 6 if you so wish.

These cards are going to be random. Keep in mind I work at an academic library. While I've tried to select visual cards, they can be obscure. 3 example titles from the top of the stack: "Stone Monuments of Southern Mexico," "Spring Days. A Realistic novel," and "Herakles: a play in verse."

Mailing Information ~
* Include username, real name, your state/country and the swap name on the back of all cards - and put username and swap name on all envelopes sent.
* US Participants – Please include postage and a mailing label. This is preferred to a SASE. An extra stamp would also be nice (for initially sending the cards), but the extra stamp is optional.
* International Participants - Please send a clearly-addressed envelope or mailing label and I will cover postage for the first three. If you don't want/need postage covered, just give me a heads up.

Late cards past a couple of days or so will be returned.

If you get the initial catalog cards and decide not to participate, that's fine. Please just keep the cards, no need to return them.

When you receive your returns, please leave I-Trader for your swap host and rep points for the artists of the cards you receive. People like to know where their little artworks find home.

Quick key- * means I've mailed out the initial set of cards. If your name is blue, you've let me know that you received the cards you will use to make atcs. If your name is in purple, I've received your finished atcs. And if your name is red, you've received your swap cards. If you need to withdraw I’ll just pull your name.

pancake machine
05-31-2020, 02:31 PM
I should still have it Bonnie. Will send you another set.

05-31-2020, 05:19 PM
So pancake machine, are these kind of like post cards then?

06-01-2020, 12:13 AM

Count me in please :)

pancake machine
06-01-2020, 12:09 PM
Welcome Essy and CraftDee!

Ferretgirl - not as big as a postcard. More like an index card with a hole punched in it.

06-01-2020, 01:21 PM
May I play? Not cutting the card will be interesting!

pancake machine
06-01-2020, 02:00 PM
Sure thing Betsy!

06-01-2020, 08:52 PM
Hi pancake machine! Would one do their artwork on the front of the card where the titles and subjects are, or on the back? Thanks

pancake machine
06-01-2020, 10:51 PM
Hi Smallgirl - Good question and I hadn't really articulated this. Given that I'm seeing this swap as pretty broad, I think either side is acceptable. Artist's choice.

06-02-2020, 06:21 PM
Hi pancake machine, sounds good! I am going to lurk for now and see what I can do. I have about 20 library catalogue cards from a school I used to work at, so no need to send me anything!

pancake machine
06-03-2020, 08:24 AM
Lurk on smallgirl! Hope to see you join.

06-03-2020, 12:22 PM
I will play, and if you can, please send me 7 so I can make a host card. Thanks. Address coming your way.

pancake machine
06-04-2020, 12:43 PM
Thanks AngelJoy! Will get them out to you and welcome to the fun!

06-04-2020, 06:37 PM
Add me please! I am out of swaps to do and I enjoyed doing the other one.

06-04-2020, 07:06 PM
Pancake Machine - I received my cards for the swap. Thanks for the extra! This is a great selection!

pancake machine
06-05-2020, 11:23 AM
Welcome Nancy - will send some your way!

06-05-2020, 09:34 PM
My cards arrived!

06-06-2020, 07:29 PM
Hi Allen! I'd like to play. I know, I haven't even done my cards for the other Card Catalogue swap, but I would like to try the full card. Do you still have my mailing address? If not, I'll PM it again. Thanks!

06-07-2020, 04:30 AM
pancake machine, I received my cards today, thank you. I will start working on them ;)

06-07-2020, 12:35 PM
I am intrigued by sizes other than atc. so I will pm you my address again. 7 would be nice so I can make an extra for you.

06-07-2020, 10:21 PM
I would like to do this one as well.
Address is the same as your other swap request.

pancake machine
06-07-2020, 10:37 PM
HeatherMae, Nanvan and CQ5 - welcome all! Yes, should have your addresses from the other swap.

06-09-2020, 12:12 PM
I received my library cards the other day. These look like fine, thanks!!

06-09-2020, 06:57 PM
My catalog cards came today. and thanks for sending 7. I was going to photocopy one for the host card. But the real deal is better.

06-10-2020, 03:19 PM
Hi pancake machine, I have another question...should we cover over the hole in the card catalogue or leave it open? Thanks! :)

pancake machine
06-11-2020, 10:11 AM
Hmmm. Good question Smallgirl. I'd say leave it open. That gives a clear indication as to the source material. Without the hole it could just as well be an index card. So should I sign you up?

No pressure, you can always drop later.

06-11-2020, 12:10 PM
I love the hole. You can put a different color behind it. You could put strings or thread through it. You could punch other holes. I think the hole is much more interesting than the ref numbers on the side.

06-11-2020, 04:29 PM
Ok, you can sign me up pancake machine! I was thinking that the hole might be cool to keep as well, then the cards could be attached together with a ring or a string, like NancyL said, maybe like a little book, but I wasn't sure what everyone else was doing. I did that with some tags I got too. I have lots of my own catalogue cards, mainly on science topics, so no need to send any! Thank you! This is a fun challenge, really different to work with this new size.

06-11-2020, 05:21 PM
Hey, Allen! This sounds like loads of fun. I’d like to join if you still have room. I’d like to do 6 plus a host card. You have my address on the CRRR list.

06-11-2020, 07:16 PM
Recieved cards...are more coming or just these...since I am doing both swaps I wanna make sure I have enough.

pancake machine
06-11-2020, 10:24 PM
HeyMaggie! Gotcha into the last spot, welcome aboard!

Heather, you should have 2 separate envelopes, about 6 cards in each one. For those people doing both swaps, that should give you 12 cards altogether.

06-12-2020, 02:32 PM
I got my cards today. Fun ideas popped in my head.

06-15-2020, 12:49 PM
I’m so glad I made the cut. This is a new size for me and I look forward to getting started!

Great set, Essy! The Scottish Kings card is so cute!

06-20-2020, 08:39 PM
Lovely cards, Essy! Especially the dinosaur and highland cattle!

06-21-2020, 12:18 AM
Thank you so much for your kind words pancake machine, nanvan, and smallgirl! :) So happy you like them.

06-21-2020, 11:59 AM
My cards are done and will go out in tomorrow's mail. Thanks for a fun swap!

Types of shape / My study windows
Willa Cather: a pictorial memoir / The bridge on the Drina
The world of apples / Too far to walk
Beside still waters

06-21-2020, 01:44 PM
Lovely cards, AngelJoy! Beside Still Waters is my favourite.

Are 3x5 sleeves available?

06-24-2020, 09:54 AM
Saran wrap can take on any size.

pancake machine
06-24-2020, 10:48 AM
Good suggestion Nancy. I've seen little zip lock bags too.

06-24-2020, 04:05 PM
Pancake machine, thank you so much! So happy you like them, and you're very welcome!

06-24-2020, 10:06 PM
Yesterday, when I was looking for something else, I found a complete set of collage papers that I bought in 2014 that will be so perfect for this card catalog project. Yay!

06-25-2020, 04:13 PM
I only have one more to do. 6 are done. I like having the whole card to work on.

I've managed to use some part of each card, even if it is the name of the publisher. I've had fun with each card.

06-27-2020, 02:25 PM
I just walked mine out to the mailbox. They are coming in 2 envelopes. I thought one would just be too thick.

I ended up using ziplock snack bags. The bags are just a bit longer than the cards.

A Scots Quair: a trilogy of novels

I'll put these in the mail tomorrow (Monday).

07-12-2020, 01:55 PM
Excellent cards, nanvan! I especially like A Scot's Quaire and Jump Rope Rhymes. I like them all, really. Nice work!

07-13-2020, 09:38 AM
Nanvan I like the rabbit sharing the apple one the most. Very colorful. OF course the rest are great too, I just like the whimsical style of that one.

pancake machine
07-13-2020, 01:04 PM
very cool! Looking forward to seeing them Nanvan.

07-13-2020, 01:18 PM
Great cards, nanvan! I love the rabbit best, and the seeds!

07-13-2020, 06:19 PM
Mailed my cards today.

07-14-2020, 12:53 PM
Great cards, nanvan! I love the rabbit best, and the seeds!

I am so glad to hear someone else really liked that card too. I was wondering if I was nuts for liking it so much. I never took art classes so I cant describe what I liked about it, but I did know it was eye pleasing.

07-15-2020, 09:32 PM
These are my cards. I will be mailing them out tomorrow.

1. The planet we live on: an encyclopedia of the earth sciences
2. The Greenpeace book
3. Animals of Asia: ecology of the Oriental region
4. The Last Rainforests: a world conservation atlas

07-15-2020, 09:36 PM
Very cool cards, smallgirl! I think the animals from Asia is my fave!

07-15-2020, 10:11 PM
Like your cards, smallgirl, especially the Greenpeace book (it's the turtle that got me!)

07-16-2020, 12:03 PM
Pancake machine, I hope you don’t mind, but I loved these so much that I scanned the catalog cards before I started working on them so I can print and use in other art. Is it ok with you?

pancake machine
07-17-2020, 01:51 PM
Yes, of course. I can also send some random cards back with everyone if you are so interested. Just let me know if you want some more for your future art.

07-17-2020, 02:44 PM
Yes, of course. I can also send some random cards back with everyone if you are so interested. Just let me know if you want some more for your future art.

Sure, I will take some if you want to get rid of some! :) Thank you so much for your generosity.

07-18-2020, 10:10 AM
I would love more catalog cards with my returns. thanks!

07-18-2020, 11:15 AM
I will send you an extra stamps for the extra cards. I know it will bump up the weight of the envelope.

pancake machine
07-18-2020, 11:46 AM
Thanks CQ5 - I'll try my best to remember both to send extras back and to get everyone that requests.

07-20-2020, 12:30 PM
I will send extra postage with my returns also. Thanks CQ5 for thinking of that...doh!!

07-20-2020, 03:05 PM
I added a butterfly extra ounce stamp for you to add a few more library cards home to me. Over an ounce, but under 2 ounces. I also gave you a butterfly stamp for your initial mailing.

07-20-2020, 06:25 PM
Mailed...will also love extra cards

07-20-2020, 10:17 PM
Nanvan - your cards have arrived! Very cool and thanks for the extra!

07-20-2020, 11:47 PM
Wow nanvan! Your cards got there so fast! I hope that mine do the same thing (not to jinx it or anything, haha)!

07-22-2020, 08:18 PM
I took my cards to the post office this morning. I’ll post pics later on or tomorrow.

07-23-2020, 02:07 PM

A couple of these just didnít inspire me so the card info is completely covered. My muse said the subjects were not artistically interesting. The rest were easier but still quite a challenge and I really enjoyed this whole process. I hope everyone gets the connection with Mark Twain and the frogs. I think thatís my favorite.

07-23-2020, 02:12 PM
Love all of your cards, heymaggie! I'm a big fan of Mark Twain, but I also think your Karl Marx card is brilliant and A Lantern in Her Hand is mystical and special! I'd be thrilled to receive any of them.

07-23-2020, 05:49 PM
Wow, nanvan, thank you so much!

07-23-2020, 07:01 PM
These will go out in tomorrow's mail. Cosmic Radiation, The Tale of Genji, Satellites, and I'm a Stranger Here Myself. I've been singing I'm a Stranger Here Myself in the shower for years, who knew the words were by Ogden Nash. Everyday, something to learn!

07-23-2020, 08:22 PM
Wonderful cards, Betsyg! The Tale of Genji is beautiful, but I think my favourite is the Ogden Nash card!

07-24-2020, 12:15 PM
So clever, Betsyg. My favorite is Satellites. All are lovely!

07-24-2020, 04:09 PM
I put my cards in the mail today pancake machine. Love these swaps!!

your Genji, is most unique. I am so sure someone who loves loves loves Asian type art would love that.
I remember Ogden Nash poems in school.

You did a great job with the postage stamps, on the sate little that is my FAV.

And understood CQ5 - will miss seeing your cards, but definitely things get busy.

08-05-2020, 02:13 PM
Wow! It’s already August 5th. I sure hope my cards arrive on time. Yikes!!

08-05-2020, 09:54 PM
I finally have some time off tomorrow, but too late to do this swap. I hope I have some time off tomorrow we will see if I get calls for help with training. I Have Friday off too, I mean off in the sense that I dont have to go down to the Census office and help enumerators get sworn in to office.

08-06-2020, 08:01 AM
I'm waiting on only 2 sets for this swap, both national. I've delayed trading out the other swap. I will give a few extra days if needed.

pancake machine
08-08-2020, 07:31 PM
looks like extra time is needed. Will give this one a few more days.

08-08-2020, 11:58 PM
Sorry for the holdup. I really thought mailing on the 22nd would allow plenty of time to get to you. I apologize to all those waiting.

08-09-2020, 12:03 AM
heymaggie, no apology necessary (at least from my perspective). Ordinarily mailing on the 22nd would have allowed ample time but these are not ordinary times for the post office. I don't mind waiting at all.

08-09-2020, 12:11 AM
heymaggie, we have all been victims of the virus postal vortex! No need to apologize for things beyond your control. You mailed in plenty of time in "normal" times, which these are not! :)

08-09-2020, 01:36 AM
heymaggie, I didn't mail my cards as soon as I should've. Crossing fingers that mailing from the same coast the expected (per the PO) 3 days delivery time would come to fruition. My cards are lollygagging around out there someplace too. Hopefully Monday will bring our cards to PM's mailbox!

pancake machine
08-12-2020, 08:20 PM
Just wanted to keep everyone updated. I will wait until Saturdays mail. After that I am swapping out. Nothing seems to be coming in right now, unfortunately.

08-12-2020, 08:38 PM
Let's hope the remaining cards arrive before Saturday!

08-13-2020, 11:27 AM
I completely understand, pancake machine. If my cards do arrive after you swap out, please keep them for your collection rather than returning them. The postal service is weird. Mail I sent out 5 days later than this envelope has already reached the UK and Australia. But you know mailart is random and that’s a special part of it. I’m kinda random myself.

pancake machine
08-13-2020, 05:48 PM
Thanks Maggie. Yes, that is the nature of mail art. That is part of the charm and frustrations of mail art! I won't return then, but let's up they show up tomorrow or Saturday.

pancake machine
08-14-2020, 09:33 PM
Good news Maggie! Your cards arrived! They look great and thanks for the extra! Now fingers crossed that Bonnie's make it tomorrow!

08-14-2020, 10:37 PM
I am so relieved! I hope Bonnie's get there tomorrow too! Thank you so much for waiting!!

pancake machine
08-15-2020, 02:07 PM
Well, unfortunately, Bonnie's cards have not arrived. I might see about doing a one to one swap with her, if she's game.

I'll be swapping out everyone and mailing on Monday, though I'm taking my eldest back to college, so there may be a day's delay. Will keep everyone in the loop.

pancake machine
08-18-2020, 09:38 PM
Cards were put in the mail this morning. I had hoped that maybe Bonnie's cards would make it on Monday but they didn't. Of course, they were in today's mail. :(

If you are interested, normally I put my atcs in binders. Can't easily do that with the full sized cards, so I decided to display them on my office door instead.

I spy the panda card I made! It makes me so happy to see it on display!

08-20-2020, 12:49 PM
And the clown card! It was one of my favorites. Can’t wait to see the returns (sometime in the next month or so). Seems like the Pony Express was faster! What will happen with Bonnie’s cards now?

08-20-2020, 02:22 PM
I received my fabulous returns in the mail today. They are great! I received an adorable Scottish longhorn from Essy; great drawing and images of earth from smallgirl; and The Trouble Begins at Eight from heymaggie. Thank you everyone for your wonderful art and a special thanks to pancake machine for these wonderful library card swaps. I'll be leaving iTrader and you rocks soon. P.S. I loved seeing my horse on display in the thread. I have tried and tried to post my finished cards in the thread and I'm doing something wrong. Guess I'll figure it out some day.

Glad the first set has arrived!

To Maggie's question, I'm going to make 2 cards for Bonnie and we'll do a one on one swap. Although, I'm trying to swing a 3 person trade right now for Lucy on the other swap. Basically I'm having 3 people send me two cards each. I'll send them 2 of Lucy's, then send all 6 back to Lucy.

Wonder if I could do that for Bonnie? But with 3 cards, it'd have to be a 1 for 1. Hmmm.

I received my cards yesterday. A variety of art techniques. Allan, thanks for hosting this. I loved having so much space to work in. You could offer this again.

Thanks to all the wonderful artists and to our gracious host, PANCAKE MACHINE for one of my favorite swaps ever! I hope you hold another one like this before long. Thank you so much for including me!

Allen, I made a card for catladybj from a catalog card I got with some other mailart. I mailed it to you yesterday. We’ll see how long it takes to get there.

So glad to hear returns have been making it home! I will go ahead an archive this swap Monday, so please post if you haven't received anything yet and want me to leave it open.

I got Bonnies card for one on one. Do I give her rocks or iTrader? Also shouldn’t you get something for facilitating the extra swap? I’m not sure what to do.

Yes, this is an odd quirk. I was going to have you go against the grain on this, but to keep it more consistent, go ahead and give me an itrader since you received an envelop from me. Give Bonnie a You Rock.
