View Full Version : The Hung-Up on HALLOWEEN Swap - Due Oct 5

nanner
08-11-2020, 07:51 PM
Due date: October 5th
Sign up/withdraw: This is a no-sign-up swap; you join when your art is received.
Number of art pieces: 3/3
Number of players: We shall see.

Join us as we make spooktacular Halloween ornaments! This will be a no-sign up swap. You join when your art arrives in nannerland. Chatting and sharing in the thread is encouraged. You’re welcome to join in the banter even if you don’t send in any art. In these odd times, we could all use a little ART to make our lives Hallo-wonderful!

Simple Rules to Swap Success:

1. Open and mixed media artwork: They can be flat or 3-Dimensional. Mixed media including paper, paint, beads, clay, tins, objects and more. Keep the size so that the main art piece fits in the palm of your hand (not including dangles or the hanger.) Include a hanger for each ornament (ribbon, hook, wire, etc.)

2. Keep it pretty: All kinds of Halloween creatures and objects are welcome. Nothing gory or gross.

3. This is ART, so please remember to sign your work with your username with each piece. No rush jobs! Please make and send art that you were proud to create. Take your time with this and create something exceptional.

4. Wrap each piece individually and pack your pieces safely in a bubble envelope, which I will re-use. Include a large return address label.

5. Postage: Please include the same amount of postage in $US dollars that it takes to mail the art to me. For US participants, this could be $5 or more, depending on the size/weight of your finished art. International participants: PayPal with postage value equivalent to what it cost to send the art to me. Please message for my email. If postage makes it cost-prohibitive for you to join, send a private message to me, and we'll work something out.

6. Show and tell: Please upload piccys of your work. That’s one of the best parts! Hostess gifts or extra postage are always appreciated.

7. Rep and iTrader: A lot of work goes into this art, so please take the time to leave Rep Points (You Rock button) for the people you receive art from, and an iTrader for me. PM for my address (in Costa Mesa.)

So great to see the Halloweenies gathering! I like they way ferretgirl put it "signing in."

We're doing this as a no-sign-up swap this time. You join when you finish your art and I receive it in nannerland. :D

In the meantime, we can hang out and set our minds to Halloween art!

Already have my theme.... Crackle ..crackle!!?

Hmmmmn. Will Bluesky be using a crackle medium? Witches pot on the boil of a burning wooden pyre? Old toad clearing his throat while out for a hop on a chilly October night?

(That last one was a stretch.)

Great to see you all!

Mmmmn...Halloween candy! Seeing as how trick-or-treating may be different this year, I will have to be extra careful how much I buy (and will potentially have to just eat it all myself!)

Your comment confuses me. Are you saying Halloween candy is normally meant to be shared? Apparently I’ve been doing it wrong my entire adult life. I just thought my personal treat selection was better this time of year.

Happy to be involve in your Halloween mayhem.

Bluesky

Halloween costume is the challenge this year. Have the job only allows me to wear the mask they gave us. Gotta figure out what I can get away with doing to the mask(and still be able to breathe)

lurking.....or is stalking the thread more appropriate for Halloween? :D Tim Holtz (https://timholtz.com/) had his Halloween idea-ology release last Saturday, so I'm totally in a Halloween mood. I love seeing all the Halloween makes!

Bluesky....mask clip-on art? There could be a whole market for that....

Great share, M! I want ALL of those items. The Michael's by my house used to carry a lot of Tim Holtz greatness, but when I was there a week ago, it was ghost town for his stuff. I hope that I just caught it between seasons.

Bluesky, that does present a challenge. It's hard enough to breathe with face coverings, and then when you add extra weight. Even throwing on a Hannibal Lecter mask wouldn't qualify for the correct nose/mouth covering.

...the leg bone is connected to the...it is quite the bone puzzle for those legs:wub: LOL Yes I had to guess on the bones, I hope I got them right. I actually started out making it with wire so it could be poseable. But the tiny bones didn't go will on the wire. I ended up using embroidery floss to make the arms and legs.

I do have one more idea I think I want to make, but after that I am trying to decide if I should make more skellies or something else.

I just received my Tim Holtz Owl Die and wanted to play with it. 217854 the owl fits in the palm of the hand but the branch is about 5 inches wide.

Also Nanner, since I am into decorative journals lately what do you think of a miniature book with images? I could make it to hang, but would it fit the decorative "hang Up" theme?

Bluesky

I am sooo annoyed at myself. I have spent a good chunk of two days searching for things I know I have. I found one, after I decided to work around it. The other was a, "ADMIT ONE ticket". I have found a bunch of tickets both real and decorative digital image ones and none say admit one. Grrrrr I Need it for one of my Hang Ups. I guess I will try to make a fake one.

My Mini Journal hang up is all done. The book has two signatures in it, and is hand stitched. I covered the cover with spiderweb tule glitterside down and sealed with gel medium. Title Plate is Embossed in Gold. I am adding glossy accents to make fake book corners, and used Glossy Accents, Wink of Stella and Stickles glitter glue through out to accent the wonderful digitals.

I had to work out a problem I had when making my Far East Journal. The pages are printed one side because I am very picky about what page goes where in the book. I also found I have problems keeping the pages smooth after gluing two pages together then folding them into the signatures. So for this I cut the back side of the pages in half and carefully glued them on either side of the fold of the front page. Then I inked the fold and edges. I hope this method will work for my larger journals.

Here is the awesome digitals I started with. https://www.etsy.com/listing/766890238/vampires-diary-din-a4-junk-journal-kit?ga_search_query=vampire&ref=shop_items_search_2&crt=1

Linda, that altered book is AWESOME! I think we've all been there when you KNOW you have something particular somewhere...and you just can't find it. No matter how much I try to organize my stash, gah!

The original images are so very cool. I can see why they spooked...spoke to you!

Thank you I am addicted to the digital journals. But like I said I have had issues with two sided pages. I printed most one sided because I wanted to add my own art on the backs, and organize the order the images fell in the books. But I found that many mediums I used were too wet for the digitals. They would soak through and cause the ink to bleed or just have the color bleed through.

I ordered a couple kits from the woman that runs the Friendly Junk Journal People Facebook group. and she uses really heavy cardstock to print on. I have mixed feeling about that. They make good tags and such, but I prefer the pages to be more flexible. I guess I am just too picky.

So I have all these digital journal pages sitting but haven't completed the books. I tried Glue sticks and after awhile the pages separated, but wet glue made them wrinkle. On this mini I just glued the edges of the split page to pack of the front page and got the results I wanted. I will try it with the larger journal, but I think on the digitals I have not printed yet I am going to be making more Mini's. Besides I am more into the art and creativity of these journals than actually using them to journal. LOL

The challenges of digital journals, wow I feel you! I have had the same trouble with images that aren't on sturdy cardstock warping or bleeding. And then I discovered a gluestick to beat all gluesticks: UHU!

Knock on wood, but since I started using this higher-end brand, I haven't had anything come undone (to my knowledge anyway.) They come in a variety of sizes. And there are some BIG ones that make glueing larger pieces especially easy. They're pricey, but worth it. :D

Thought this group might like to see how I'm trying to warp...er....ENCOURAGE young minds into art. We were hanging with my niece/nephew. And we made some art dolls. I love letting artists run free. I put out supplies, and brads for piecing the dolls together. My niece hinged the jaw on her zombie so that he could "chew" on the anatomical heart she made.
I would never have thought of that. Super creative from the minds of the future artists of the world!

Hmmmn. I don't think that's one of mine...I don't recall using Jenga blocks. :huh:hmm, I was hoping it was. and the block is painted black, So I am assuming it is a Jenga by the size and shape. If any lurkers or players recognize it as one the made for an earlier swap let me know please. I really like it and I hung it on the spine of my Hollowed Gothic Journal I finally completed. http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/gallery/images/259/small/1_9-2020-HollowedGothic-a_.jpg There is more journal pics in my gallery.
