Magic Pyramid Swap
Venice Mask Theme

My first magic pyramid swap was really fun and the art was really great, so here is round 2!!

This swap is going to be simple and easy BUT the directions might seem complicated so please read them over carefully and completely before joining! :cute:

OK. Here's the idea. Using a sturdy background material (i.e. matt board, thick cardboard, heavy watercolor paper) we will construct the parts for a pyramid-shaped assemblage. The thicker the paper the better!!

You will make and decorate 4 side triangles + a square base. The 4 side triangles will be 10 cm tall by 10 cm wide, and the base square is also 10 cm by 10 cm. Which is the same as saying 4 x 4 inch.
All sides are decorated in the "Venice Mask" theme. So lots of feathers, gold and glitter!! Sounds fun, right? :)
You will keep your square base and one of your sides, at home!

You will send in to swap, 3 side triangles. I will send you 3 sides back, made by other players. You can then assemble you own magic wishing pyramid! Or jewelry-holding pyramid, or whatever you want to call it.

The sides of the triangles that will make the inside of the pyramid, should be flat and smooth, for ease of assemblage. You can add a little bit color or so of course :cute: But just keep it flat.

The sides of the triangles that will make up the outside of the pyramid should be decorated using several media and embellished! Just don't have to much hanging over the edges, please, because this will make the finished piece more difficult to assemble. And don't forget to put your screenname somewhere.

You can do the base of the pyramid like you want, you can put legs under it and add beads on the side, or whatever.

The triangle that you keep, will be the "door" to you box, i.e. the side that opens. So find a little hinge to attach it, in the meantime. This hinge will attach the square base to the bottom of the triangle. For extra fun, you might put a little door knob or handle on the triangle you keep at home. This part is up to you, totally.

When cutting your pyramid pieces, please use a ruler, straight edge and sharp exacto knife or a paper cutter, and get them cut to the exact specs! Measure twice, cut once! Please be neat & careful because this will affect how the finished pyramid looks

ANY QUESTIONS?? PLease ask if something is unclear.

Ok so. Are you with me so far? ;) Here's the rest:

1- send 3 triangles, 4 inches wide by 4 inches tall, outsides decorated in "Venice Mask" theme, insides plain. Keep one triangle for your door + your base at home. Please only send work that you are proud of and would love to receive yourself.
And please post in thread when you're sending.

2- Include a self-addressed label. I have envies enough to send them back.

3- I will cover postage (there are not many here from Holland...) If you are from the US a loose stamp would be nice, so I can use them for other swaphosts. As a hint, I collect pins from cities, states or countries. (you know, that things you put on your backpack, so people can see where you've been LOL) An extra ATC in the themes I collect or an extra triangle is also nice. But it is not required.
Last sign up date is August 1st

4- these are due to me, in my mailbox, not later than September 1st. And please notice that I'm in The Netherlands! Returns wil be mailed within a week.

5- when you get your returns, assemble your magic wishing pyramid and post a pic in this thread! If you can, I mean. This is not mandatory but I would love to see what you end up with.

For examples see my first magic pyramid swap thread (http://www.atcsforall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=999)!

Yeah! We are back on the pyramid kick!!! I attempted to get interest for a PIF on these, but it does not appear we have enough interest at this time. Maybe a few more swaps will get members rolling. Unfortunately I can't join this one at this time. Until I see how my other commitments go. Perhaps you won't fill up too quick and I can get back to this one. Good luck to you all. I can't wait to see what comes out of this swap!

I was interested in the PIF one, but will have to see how my commitments go. If there's still space then I'll sign up.

oh, I really wanted to do a pyramid, but I think the theme is out of my "comfort zone" I don't like gaudy, and though I do not know what a Venice mask is... the sparkle, feathers and gold kind of sound gaudy. I'll be watching the thread to see how things go :)

Hi Binka, this looks like fun. Please can I be included in your swap? I've no idea what a Venice mask is but it will stretch me to do some research and get myself organised and I love golds, feathers and sparkle so I'll be happy.

Gaudy is good and a venetian mask can be done very tastefully if you have the talent x

Hi micromummy, thank you for signing up :)

Binka

SATT and Ibus, I think this is going to fill up slowly, because of the theme. So enough time to decide to play or not lol

Binka~ Can the sides of these be chunky? I was thinking of doing some 3-dimmensional style embroidery work. It wouldn't hang over the edges, but it may be a bit thick for mailing returns....

Binka
07-02-2008, 02:12 PM
As long as you can stick the sides together from the inside, there won't be a problem I think.
Don't worry for the mailing returns...
So can I sign you up????

pumpkincoach
07-02-2008, 02:33 PM
Yes Binka, Please sign me up!

fantasy firebird
07-02-2008, 06:19 PM
ok - just found this swop!!! Now being a "different" idea type of person this seems quite the swop for me LOL (nothing to do with Micromummy's creations and the lovefest that the pair of us have with each others work!!)
Question - you say keep insides plan - does that mean totally blank - uncoloured?? Or can the insides be coloured using inks????

Binka
07-03-2008, 01:13 PM
Hee FF! You can color the inside the way you want. Maybe flat is a better word for it... :)

ScramperSue
07-04-2008, 05:19 AM
Micromummy, those are FABULOUS!!

I am glad they got there safely! The masks were made with a push mold; one is paper casting and the others are polymer clay.

Sorry for being not online for a while. Starting with teaching was very hectic this year.

i received one of ff triangles - its stunning thanks so much Kay. Also thanks goes to Micromummy (yes i did get another of her creations - she might as well just have given it to me lol), Rockstarsgirl and Susietex. Also thank you to Binka for such a great swap. I only have one little gripe hun - because my pyramids weren't in separate bags they got wet in the mail and two have stuck together - so I am going to have to do some repairs to them x
